H A D | gpio-latch.c | 1454a928b Fri Oct 07 05:46:46 MDT 2022 Sascha Hauer <s.hauer@pengutronix.de> gpio: Add gpio latch driver This driver implements a GPIO multiplexer based on latches connected to other GPIOs. A set of data GPIOs is connected to the data input of multiple latches. The clock input of each latch is driven by another set of GPIOs. With two 8-bit latches 10 GPIOs can be multiplexed into 16 GPIOs. GPOs might be a better term as in fact the multiplexed pins are output only. H A D | pagemap.h | c6286c98 Wed Jul 03 16:02:26 MDT 2013 Mel Gorman <mgorman@suse.de> mm: add tracepoints for LRU activation and insertions Andrew Perepechko reported a problem whereby pages are being prematurely evicted as the mark_page_accessed() hint is ignored for pages that are currently on a pagevec -- http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-ext4/msg37340.html . Alexey Lyahkov and Robin Dong have also reported problems recently that could be due to hot pages reaching the end of the inactive list too quickly and be reclaimed. Rather than addressing this on a per-filesystem basis, this series aims to fix the mark_page_accessed() interface by deferring what LRU a page is added to pagevec drain time and allowing mark_page_accessed() to call SetPageActive on a pagevec page. Patch 1 adds two tracepoints for LRU page activation and insertion. Using these processes it's possible to build a model of pages in the LRU that can be processed offline. Patch 2 defers making the decision on what LRU to add a page to until when the pagevec is drained. Patch 3 searches the local pagevec for pages to mark PageActive on mark_page_accessed. The changelog explains why only the local pagevec is examined. Patches 4 and 5 tidy up the API. postmark, a dd-based test and fs-mark both single and threaded mode were run but none of them showed any performance degradation or gain as a result of the patch. Using patch 1, I built a *very* basic model of the LRU to examine offline what the average age of different page types on the LRU were in milliseconds. Of course, capturing the trace distorts the test as it's written to local disk but it does not matter for the purposes of this test. The average age of pages in milliseconds were vanilla deferdrain Average age mapped anon: 1454 1250 Average age mapped file: 127841 155552 Average age unmapped anon: 85 235 Average age unmapped file: 73633 38884 Average age unmapped buffers: 74054 116155 The LRU activity was mostly files which you'd expect for a dd-based workload. Note that the average age of buffer pages is increased by the series and it is expected this is due to the fact that the buffer pages are now getting added to the active list when drained from the pagevecs. Note that the average age of the unmapped file data is decreased as they are still added to the inactive list and are reclaimed before the buffers. There is no guarantee this is a universal win for all workloads and it would be nice if the filesystem people gave some thought as to whether this decision is generally a win or a loss. This patch: Using these tracepoints it is possible to model LRU activity and the average residency of pages of different types. This can be used to debug problems related to premature reclaim of pages of particular types. H A D | battery.c | diff 4000e626 Fri Nov 16 14:28:58 MST 2012 Kamil Iskra <kamil@iskra.name> ACPI / battery: Correct battery capacity values on Thinkpads Add a quirk to correctly report battery capacity on 2010 and 2011 Lenovo Thinkpad models. The affected models that I tested (x201, t410, t410s, and x220) exhibit a problem where, when battery capacity reporting unit is mAh, the values being reported are wrong. Pre-2010 and 2012 models appear to always report in mWh and are thus unaffected. Also, in mid-2012 Lenovo issued a BIOS update for the 2011 models that fixes the issue (tested on x220 with a post-1.29 BIOS). No such update is available for the 2010 models, so those still need this patch. Problem description: for some reason, the affected Thinkpads switch the reporting unit between mAh and mWh; generally, mAh is used when a laptop is plugged in and mWh when it's unplugged, although a suspend/resume or rmmod/modprobe is needed for the switch to take effect. The values reported in mAh are *always* wrong. This does not appear to be a kernel regression; I believe that the values were never reported correctly. I tested back to kernel 2.6.34, with multiple machines and BIOS versions. Simply plugging a laptop into mains before turning it on is enough to reproduce the problem. Here's a sample /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info from Thinkpad x220 (before a BIOS update) with a 4-cell battery: present: yes design capacity: 2886 mAh last full capacity: 2909 mAh battery technology: rechargeable design voltage: 14800 mV design capacity warning: 145 mAh design capacity low: 13 mAh cycle count: 0 capacity granularity 1: 1 mAh capacity granularity 2: 1 mAh model number: 42T4899 serial number: 21064 battery type: LION OEM info: SANYO Once the laptop switches the unit to mWh (unplug from mains, suspend, resume), the output changes to: present: yes design capacity: 28860 mWh last full capacity: 29090 mWh battery technology: rechargeable design voltage: 14800 mV design capacity warning: 1454 mWh design capacity low: 200 mWh cycle count: 0 capacity granularity 1: 1 mWh capacity granularity 2: 1 mWh model number: 42T4899 serial number: 21064 battery type: LION OEM info: SANYO Can you see how the values for "design capacity", etc., differ by a factor of 10 instead of 14.8 (the design voltage of this battery)? On the battery itself it says: 14.8V, 1.95Ah, 29Wh, so clearly the values reported in mWh are correct and the ones in mAh are not. My guess is that this problem has been around ever since those machines were released, but because the most common Thinkpad batteries are rated at 10.8V, the error (8%) is small enough that it simply hasn't been noticed or at least nobody could be bothered to look into it. My patch works around the problem by adjusting the incorrectly reported mAh values by "10000 / design_voltage". The patch also has code to figure out if it should be activated or not. It only activates on Lenovo Thinkpads, only when the unit is mAh, and, as an extra precaution, only when the battery capacity reported through ACPI does not match what is reported through DMI (I've never encountered a machine where the first two conditions would be true but the last would not, but better safe than sorry). I've been using this patch for close to a year on several systems without any problems.
