H A Daf_netrom.cdiff 61179292 Thu Jan 26 19:32:50 MST 2023 Hyunwoo Kim <v4bel@theori.io> netrom: Fix use-after-free caused by accept on already connected socket

If you call listen() and accept() on an already connect()ed
AF_NETROM socket, accept() can successfully connect.
This is because when the peer socket sends data to sendmsg,
the skb with its own sk stored in the connected socket's
sk->sk_receive_queue is connected, and nr_accept() dequeues
the skb waiting in the sk->sk_receive_queue.

As a result, nr_accept() allocates and returns a sock with
the sk of the parent AF_NETROM socket.

And here use-after-free can happen through complex race conditions:
```
cpu0 cpu1
1. socket_2 = socket(AF_NETROM)
.
.
listen(socket_2)
accepted_socket = accept(socket_2)
2. socket_1 = socket(AF_NETROM)
nr_create() // sk refcount : 1
connect(socket_1)
3. write(accepted_socket)
sock_queue_rcv_skb()
sock_queue_rcv_skb_reason()
__sock_queue_rcv_skb()
__skb_queue_tail(list, skb); // list : socket_1's sk->sk_receive_queue
4. listen(socket_1)
nr_listen()
uaf_socket = accept(socket_1)
nr_accept()
skb_dequeue(&sk->sk_receive_queue);
5. close(accepted_socket)
nr_release()
syzkaller found another bug in DCCP/TCP stacks [1]
For the reasons explained in commit ce1050089c96 ("tcp/dccp: fix
ireq->pktopts race"), we need to make sure we do not access
ireq->opt unless we own the request sock.
Note the opt field is renamed to ireq_opt to ease grep games.
H A Dkprobes.cdiff 1efda38d Wed Sep 07 14:09:17 MDT 2022 Christian A. Ehrhardt <lk@c--e.de> kprobes: Prohibit probes in gate area
The system call gate area counts as kernel text but trying
to install a kprobe in this area fails with an Oops later on.
To fix this explicitly disallow the gate area for kprobes.
Bug is that sk_sockets_allocated_read_positive() calls
percpu_counter_sum_positive() without BH being disabled.
This bug was added in commit 180d8cd942ce33
(foundations of per-cgroup memory pressure controlling.), since previous
code was using percpu_counter_read_positive() which is IRQ safe.
In __sk_mem_schedule() we dont need the precise count of allocated
sockets and can revert to previous behavior.
Bug is that sk_sockets_allocated_read_positive() calls
percpu_counter_sum_positive() without BH being disabled.
This bug was added in commit 180d8cd942ce33
(foundations of per-cgroup memory pressure controlling.), since previous
code was using percpu_counter_read_positive() which is IRQ safe.
In __sk_mem_schedule() we dont need the precise count of allocated
sockets and can revert to previous behavior.
H A DMakefilediff e8c07082 Tue Mar 08 14:56:14 MST 2022 Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Kbuild: move to -std=gnu11
During a patch discussion, Linus brought up the option of changing
the C standard version from gnu89 to gnu99, which allows using variable
declaration inside of a for() loop. While the C99, C11 and later standards
introduce many other features, most of these are already available in
gnu89 as GNU extensions as well.
An earlier attempt to do this when gcc-5 started defaulting to
-std=gnu11 failed because at the time that caused warnings about
designated initializers with older compilers. Now that gcc-5.1 is
the minimum compiler version used for building kernels, that is no
longer a concern. Similarly, the behavior of 'inline' functions changes
between gnu89 using gnu_inline behavior and gnu11 using standard c99+
behavior, but this was taken care of by defining 'inline' to include
__attribute__((gnu_inline)) in order to allow building with clang a
while ago.
Nathan Chancellor reported a new -Wdeclaration-after-statement
warning that appears in a system header on arm, this still needs a
workaround.
The differences between gnu99, gnu11, gnu1x and gnu17 are fairly
minimal and mainly impact warnings at the -Wpedantic level that the
kernel never enables. Between these, gnu11 is the newest version
that is supported by all supported compiler versions, though it is
only the default on gcc-5, while all other supported versions of
gcc or clang default to gnu1x/gnu17.
If shmem handling in particular becomes more coherent at some point in
H A Dsch_taprio.cdiff a56d447f Mon Oct 04 01:55:22 MDT 2021 Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> net/sched: sch_taprio: properly cancel timer from taprio_destroy()
There is a comment in qdisc_create() about us not calling ops->reset()
in some cases.
err_out4:
/*
* Any broken qdiscs that would require a ops->reset() here?
* The qdisc was never in action so it shouldn't be necessary.
*/
As taprio sets a timer before actually receiving a packet, we need
to cancel it from ops->destroy, just in case ops->reset has not
been called.
H A Dnf_tables_api.cdiff 4ef360dd Wed Jul 25 09:39:51 MDT 2018 Taehee Yoo <ap420073@gmail.com> netfilter: nft_set: fix allocation size overflow in privsize callback.
In order to determine allocation size of set, ->privsize is invoked.
At this point, both desc->size and size of each data structure of set
are used. desc->size means number of element that is given by user.
desc->size is u32 type. so that upperlimit of set element is 4294967295.
but return type of ->privsize is also u32. hence overflow can occurred.
test commands:
%nft add table ip filter
%nft add set ip filter hash1 { type ipv4_addr \; size 4294967295 \; }
%nft list ruleset
H A Dnft_set_bitmap.cdiff 4ef360dd Wed Jul 25 09:39:51 MDT 2018 Taehee Yoo <ap420073@gmail.com> netfilter: nft_set: fix allocation size overflow in privsize callback.
In order to determine allocation size of set, ->privsize is invoked.
At this point, both desc->size and size of each data structure of set
are used. desc->size means number of element that is given by user.
desc->size is u32 type. so that upperlimit of set element is 4294967295.
but return type of ->privsize is also u32. hence overflow can occurred.
test commands:
%nft add table ip filter
%nft add set ip filter hash1 { type ipv4_addr \; size 4294967295 \; }
%nft list ruleset
H A Dipv4.cdiff c92e8c02 Fri Oct 20 10:04:13 MDT 2017 Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> tcp/dccp: fix ireq->opt races
syzkaller found another bug in DCCP/TCP stacks [1]
For the reasons explained in commit ce1050089c96 ("tcp/dccp: fix
ireq->pktopts race"), we need to make sure we do not access
ireq->opt unless we own the request sock.
Note the opt field is renamed to ireq_opt to ease grep games.
H A Dskbuff.cdiff 50749f2d Mon Apr 24 16:20:22 MDT 2023 Kuniyuki Iwashima <kuniyu@amazon.com> tcp/udp: Fix memleaks of sk and zerocopy skbs with TX timestamp.
syzkaller reported [0] memory leaks of an UDP socket and ZEROCOPY
skbs. We can reproduce the problem with these sequences:
sk = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, 0)
sk.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_TIMESTAMPING, SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SOFTWARE)
sk.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_ZEROCOPY, 1)
sk.sendto(b'', MSG_ZEROCOPY, ('127.0.0.1', 53))
sk.close()
sendmsg() calls msg_zerocopy_alloc(), which allocates a skb, sets
skb->cb->ubuf.refcnt to 1, and calls sock_hold(). Here, struct
ubuf_info_msgzc indirectly holds a refcnt of the socket. When the
skb is sent, __skb_tstamp_tx() clones it and puts the clone into
the socket's error queue with the TX timestamp.
When the original skb is received locally, skb_copy_ubufs() calls
skb_unclone(), and pskb_expand_head() increments skb->cb->ubuf.refcnt.
This additional count is decremented while freeing the skb, but struct
ubuf_info_msgzc still has a refcnt, so __msg_zerocopy_callback() is
not called.
The last refcnt is not released unless we retrieve the TX timestamped
skb by recvmsg(). Since we clear the error queue in inet_sock_destruct()
after the socket's refcnt reaches 0, there is a circular dependency.
If we close() the socket holding such skbs, we never call sock_put()
and leak the count, sk, and skb.
TCP has the same problem, and commit e0c8bccd40fc ("net: stream:
purge sk_error_queue in sk_stream_kill_queues()") tried to fix it
by calling skb_queue_purge() during close(). However, there is a
small chance that skb queued in a qdisc or device could be put
into the error queue after the skb_queue_purge() call.
In __skb_tstamp_tx(), the cloned skb should not have a reference
to the ubuf to remove the circular dependency, but skb_clone() does
not call skb_copy_ubufs() for zerocopy skb. So, we need to call
skb_orphan_frags_rx() for the cloned skb to call skb_copy_ubufs().
Doing things like hci_conn_hash_flush() while holding the hdev lock is
risky since its synchronous pending work cancellation could cause the
L2CAP layer to try to reacquire the hdev lock. Right now there doesn't
seem to be any obvious places where this would for certain happen but
it's already enough to cause lockdep to start warning against the hdev
Fully fixing this would require some quite heavy refactoring to change
how the hdev lock and hci_conn instances are handled together. A simpler
solution for now which this patch takes is to try ensure that the hdev
workqueue is empty before proceeding with the various cleanup calls,
including hci_conn_hash_flush().
H A Dmd-bitmap.cdiff e68cb83a Thu Mar 31 20:13:16 MDT 2022 Heming Zhao <heming.zhao@suse.com> md/bitmap: don't set sb values if can't pass sanity check
If bitmap area contains invalid data, kernel will crash then mdadm
triggers "Segmentation fault".
This is cluster-md speical bug. In non-clustered env, mdadm will
handle broken metadata case. In clustered array, only kernel space
handles bitmap slot info. But even this bug only happened in clustered
env, current sanity check is wrong, the code should be changed.
How to trigger: (faulty injection)
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=1 oflag=direct of=/dev/sda
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=1 oflag=direct of=/dev/sdb
mdadm -C /dev/md0 -b clustered -e 1.2 -n 2 -l mirror /dev/sda /dev/sdb
mdadm -Ss
echo aaa > magic.txt
== below modifying slot 2 bitmap data ==
dd if=magic.txt of=/dev/sda seek=16384 bs=1 count=3 <== destroy magic
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda seek=16436 bs=1 count=4 <== ZERO chunksize
mdadm -A /dev/md0 /dev/sda /dev/sdb
== kernel crashes. mdadm outputs "Segmentation fault" ==
Reason of kernel crash:
In md_bitmap_read_sb (called by md_bitmap_create), bad bitmap magic didn't
block chunksize assignment, and zero value made DIV_ROUND_UP_SECTOR_T()
trigger "divide error".
