mtd: rawnand: qcom: Fix broken OP_RESET_DEVICE command in qcom_misc_cmd_type_exec()

While migrating to exec_ops in commit a82990c8a409 ("mtd: rawnand: qcom:
Add read/read_start ops in exec_op path"), OP_RESET_DEVICE command handling
got broken unintentionally. Right now for the OP_RESET_DEVICE command,
qcom_misc_cmd_type_exec() will simply return 0 without handling it. Even,
if that gets fixed, an unnecessary FLASH_STATUS read descriptor command is
being added in the middle and that seems to be causing the command to fail
on IPQ806x devices.

So let's fix the above two issues to make OP_RESET_DEVICE command working
again.

mtd: rawnand: qcom: Unmap sg_list and free desc within submic_descs()

There are two types of dma descriptors being used in this driver allocated
by, prepare_bam_async_desc() and prep_adm_dma_desc() helper functions.
These functions map and prepare the descriptors to be used for dma
transfers.

And all the descriptors are submitted inside the submit_descs() function.
Once the transfer completion happens, those descriptors should be unmapped
and freed as a part of cleanup.

Currently, free_descs() function is doing the said cleanup of descriptors.
But the callers of submit_descs() are required to call free_descs() in both
the success and error cases.

Since there are no other transactions need to be done after submit_descs(),
let's just move the contents of free_descs() inside submit_descs() itself.

This makes sure that the cleanup is handled within the submit_descs()
thereby offloading the cleanup part from callers.

While at it, let's also rename the return variable from "r" to "ret".

qcom_check_op() function checks for the invalid opcode for the instruction
types. Currently, it just returns -ENOTSUPP for all opcodes of

Fix it!

This also fixes the following smatch warning:

mtd: rawnand: qcom: Fix address parsing within ->exec_op()

The naddrs variable is initialized but not used. Fixing this could have
been a matter of dropping the variable, but the right way to do it looks
a bit more complex: we can avoid useless writes to the q_op structure by
using it. In practice we could even have possible out-of-bound bugs with
the existing implementation. Let's fix all that by just performing the
right number of assignments in the addr{1,2}_reg fields.

mtd: rawnand: qcom: Early structure initialization

Instead of allocating a structure on the stack with random data and then
expect the callee to perform the initialization (which is, in general,
error prone), prefer zeroing the structure explicitly at allocation and
provide the already zeroed area, so no explicit memset operation is
needed. It is probably safer to do so, so we limit the timeframe when
dirty data could actually be accessed by mistake.

mtd: Explicitly include correct DT includes

The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

mtd: nand: Convert to platform remove callback returning void

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.

Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.

mtd: rawnand: qcom: handle ret from parse with codeword_fixup

With use_codeword_fixup enabled, any return from
mtd_device_parse_register gets overwritten. Aside from the clear bug, this
is also problematic as a parser can EPROBE_DEFER and because this is not
correctly handled, the nand is never rescanned later in the bootup
process.

An example of this problem is when smem requires additional time to be
probed and nandc use qcomsmempart as parser. Parser will return
EPROBE_DEFER but in the current code this ret gets overwritten by
qcom_nand_host_parse_boot_partitions and qcom_nand_host_init_and_register
return 0.

Correctly handle the return code from mtd_device_parse_register so that
any error from this function is not ignored.

mtd: nand: raw: qcom_nandc: add support for unprotected spare data pages

IPQ8064 nand have special pages where a different layout scheme is used.
These special page are used by boot partition and on reading them
lots of warning are reported about wrong ECC data and if written to
results in broken data and not bootable device.

The layout scheme used by these special page consist in using 512 bytes
as the codeword size (even for the last codeword) while writing to CFG0
register. This forces the NAND controller to unprotect the 4 bytes of
spare data.

Since the kernel is unaware of this different layout for these special
page, it does try to protect the spare data too during read/write and
warn about CRC errors.

Add support for this by permitting the user to declare these special
pages in dts by declaring offset and size of the partition. The driver
internally will convert these value to nand pages.

On user read/write the page is checked and if it's a boot page the
correct layout is used.

The problem is that the nand_scan()'s qcom_nand_attach_chip callback
is updating the nandc->max_cwperpage from 1 to 4 or 8 based on page size.
This causes the sg_init_table of clear_bam_transaction() in the driver's
qcom_nandc_command() to memset much more than what was initially
allocated by alloc_bam_transaction().

This patch will update nandc->max_cwperpage 1 to 4 or 8 based on page
size in qcom_nand_attach_chip call back after freeing the previously
allocated memory for bam txn as per nandc->max_cwperpage = 1 and then
again allocating bam txn as per nandc->max_cwperpage = 4 or 8 based on
page size in qcom_nand_attach_chip call back itself.

mtd: rawnand: qcom: Fix clock sequencing in qcom_nandc_probe()

Interacting with a NAND chip on an IPQ6018 I found that the qcomsmem NAND
partition parser was returning -EPROBE_DEFER waiting for the main smem
driver to load.

This caused the board to reset. Playing about with the probe() function
shows that the problem lies in the core clock being switched off before the
nandc_unalloc() routine has completed.

If we look at how qcom_nandc_remove() tears down allocated resources we see
the expected order is

qcom_nandc_unalloc(nandc);

clk_disable_unprepare(nandc->aon_clk);
clk_disable_unprepare(nandc->core_clk);

dma_unmap_resource(&pdev->dev, nandc->base_dma, resource_size(res),
DMA_BIDIRECTIONAL, 0);

Tweaking probe() to both bring up and tear-down in that order removes the
reset if we end up deferring elsewhere.

dmaengine: qcom-adm: stop abusing slave_id config

The slave_id was previously used to pick one DMA slave instead of another,
but this is now done through the DMA descriptors in device tree.

For the qcom_adm driver, the configuration is documented in the DT
binding to contain a tuple of device identifier and a "crci" field,
but the implementation ends up using only a single cell for identifying
the slave, with the crci getting passed in nonstandard properties of
the device, and passed through the dma driver using the old slave_id
field. Part of the problem apparently is that the nand driver ends up
using only a single DMA request ID, but requires distinct values for
"crci" depending on the type of transfer.

Change both the dmaengine driver and the two slave drivers to allow
the documented binding to work in addition to the ad-hoc passing
of crci values. In order to no longer abuse the slave_id field, pass
the data using the "peripheral_config" mechanism instead.

From QPIC V2 onwards there is a separate register to read
last code word "QPIC_NAND_READ_LOCATION_LAST_CW_n".

qcom_nandc_read_cw_raw() is used to read only one code word
at a time. If we will configure number of code words to 1 in
in QPIC_NAND_DEV0_CFG0 register then QPIC controller thinks
its reading the last code word, since from QPIC V2 onwards
we are having separate register to read the last code word,
we have to configure "QPIC_NAND_READ_LOCATION_LAST_CW_n"
register to fetch data from controller buffer to system
memory.

might be problematic for systems with both SPI and NAND MTD devices.
When booting from SPI flash the partition table should not apply to the
NAND flash.

Prepend cmdlinepart and ofpart parsers to allow override of the
partition parser.

In qcom_probe_nand_devices() function, the error code returned by

So let's restructure the error handling logic a bit and return the
actual error code in case of qcom_nand_host_init_and_register() failure.

BAM is DMA controller on QCOM ipq platforms, BAM mode on NAND driver
is set by writing BAM_MODE_EN bit on NAND_CTRL register.

NAND_CTRL is an operational register and in BAM mode operational
registers are read only.

So, before enabling BAM mode by writing the NAND_CTRL register, check
if BAM mode was already enabled by the bootloader, and enable BAM mode
only if it is not enabled already.

mtd: rawnand: Rename a NAND chip option

NAND controller drivers can set the NAND_USE_BOUNCE_BUFFER flag to a
chip 'option' field. With this flag, the core is responsible of
providing DMA-able buffers.

The current behavior is to not force the use of a bounce buffer when
the core thinks this is not needed. So in the end the name is a bit
misleading, because in theory we will always have a DMA buffer but in
practice it will not always be a bounce buffer.

Rename this flag NAND_USES_DMA to be more accurate.

mtd: rawnand: Provide a helper to get chip->data_buf

We plan to move cache related fields to a pagecache struct in nand_chip
but some drivers access ->pagebuf directly to invalidate the cache
before they start using ->data_buf.

Let's provide an helper that returns a pointer to ->data_buf after
invalidating the cache.

The problem is that the nand_scan()'s qcom_nand_attach_chip callback
is updating the nandc->max_cwperpage from 1 to 4. This causes the
sg_init_table of clear_bam_transaction() in the driver's
qcom_nandc_block_bad() to memset much more than what was initially
allocated by alloc_bam_transaction().

This patch restores the old behavior by reallocating the shared bam
transaction alloc_bam_transaction() after the chip was identified,
but before mtd_device_parse_register() (which is an alias for
mtd_device_register() - see panic) gets called. This fixes the
corruption and the driver is working again.

Those hooks have been overloaded by some drivers for bad reasons:
either the driver was not fitting in the NAND framework and should
have been an MTD driver (docg4), or it was not properly implementing
the OOB read/write request or had a weird layout where BBM are trashed.
In any case, we should discourage people from overloading those
methods and encourage them to fix their driver instead.

Move the ->block_{bad,markbad}() hooks to the nand_legacy struct to
make it clear.

In the raw NAND core, a NAND chip is described by a nand_chip structure,
while a NAND controller is described with a nand_hw_control structure
which is not very meaningful.

Rename this structure nand_controller.

As the structure gets renamed, it is logical to also rename the core
function initializing it from nand_hw_control_init() to
nand_controller_init().

Lastly, the 'hwcontrol' entry of the nand_chip structure is not
meaningful neither while it has the role of fallback when no controller
structure is provided by the driver (the controller driver is dumb and
can only control a single chip). Thus, it is renamed dummy_controller.

Compile-testing this driver on x86 caused a link error:

ERROR: "__phys_to_dma" [drivers/mtd/nand/raw/qcom_nandc.ko] undefined!

The problem here is that the driver attempts to convert the physical
address into the DMA controller as a dma_addr_t and calls phys_to_dma()
to do the conversion.

The correct way to do the conversion is using the dma mapping interfaces.

mtd: rawnand: qcom: erased page bitflips detection

NAND parts can have bitflips in an erased page due to the
process technology used. In this case, QCOM NAND controller
is not able to identify that page as an erased page.
Currently the driver calls nand_check_erased_ecc_chunk() for
identifying the erased pages but this won’t work always since the
checking is being with ECC engine returned data. In case of
bitflips, the ECC engine tries to correct the data and then it
generates the uncorrectable error. Now, this data is not equal to
original raw data. For erased CW identification, the raw data
should be read again from NAND device and this
nand_check_erased_ecc_chunk function() should be called for raw
data only.

Now following logic is being added to identify the erased
codeword bitflips.

1. In most of the cases, not all the codewords will have bitflips
and only single CW will have bitflips. So, there is no need to
read the complete raw page data. The NAND raw read can be
scheduled for any CW in page. The NAND controller works on CW
basis and it will update the status register after each CW read.
Maintain the bitmask for the CW which generated the uncorrectable
error.
2. Do raw read for all the CW's which generated the uncorrectable
error.
3. Both DATA and OOB need to be checked for number of 0. The
top-level API can be called with only data buf or OOB buf so use
chip->databuf if data buf is null and chip->oob_poi if
OOB buf is null for copying the raw bytes temporarily.
4. For each CW, check the number of 0 in cw_data and usable
oob bytes, The bbm and spare (unused) bytes bit flip won’t
affect the ECC so don’t check the number of bitflips in this area.

Make separate function to perform raw read for one codeword and
call this function multiple times for each codeword in case of
raw page read. This separate function will help in subsequent

It will decrease throughput for raw page read. Raw page read
is used for debug purpose so it won't affect normal flash
operations.

QCOM NAND controller layout protects available OOB data bytes with
ECC also so when ecc->write_oob() is being called then it
can't update just OOB bytes. Currently, it first reads the last
codeword which includes old OOB bytes. Then it updates the old OOB
bytes with new ones and then again writes the codeword back.
The reading codeword is unnecessary since user is responsible to
have these bytes cleared to 0xFF.

This patch removes the read part and updates the OOB bytes with
data area padded with OxFF.

Following is the flow in the HW if controller tries to read erased
page:

1. First ECC uncorrectable error will be generated from ECC engine
since ECC engine first calculates the ECC with all 0xff and match
the calculated ECC with ECC code in OOB (which is again all 0xff).
2. After getting ECC error, erased CW detection logic will be
applied which is different for BCH and RS ECC
a. For BCH, HW checks if all the bytes in page are 0xff and then
it updates the status in separate register
NAND_ERASED_CW_DETECT_STATUS.
b. For RS ECC, the HW reports the same error when reading an
erased CW, but it notifies that it is an erased CW by
placing special characters at certain offsets in the
buffer.

So the erased CW detect status should be checked only if ECC engine
generated the uncorrectable error.

Currently for all other operational errors also (like TIMEOUT, MPU
errors, etc.), the erased CW detect logic is being applied so fix this
and return EIO for other operational errors.

mtd: rawnand: qcom: wait for desc completion in all BAM channels

The BAM has 3 channels - tx, rx and command. command channel
is used for register read/writes, tx channel for data writes
and rx channel for data reads. Currently, the driver assumes the
transfer completion once it gets all the command descriptors
completed. Sometimes, there is race condition between data channel
(tx/rx) and command channel completion. In these cases,
the data present in buffer is not valid during small window
between command descriptor completion and data descriptor
completion.

This patch generates NAND transfer completion when both
(Data and Command) DMA channels have completed all its DMA
descriptors. It assigns completion callback in last
DMA descriptors of that channel and wait for completion.

The devm_kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, devm_kcalloc().
This patch replaces cases of:

devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

with:
devm_kcalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b * c, gfp)

with:

devm_kzalloc(handle, array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

devm_kcalloc(handle, array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

devm_kzalloc(handle, 4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

Some manual whitespace fixes were needed in this patch, as Coccinelle
really liked to write "=devm_kcalloc..." instead of "= devm_kcalloc...".

mtd: rawnand: rename SET/GET FEATURES related functions

SET/GET FEATURES are flagged ONFI-compliant because of their name. This
is not accurate as non-ONFI NAND chips support it and use it.

Rename the hooks and helpers to remove the "onfi" prefix.
