powerpc/fadump: make is_kdump_kernel() return false when fadump is active Currently, is_kdump_kernel() returns true in crash dump capture kernel for both kdump and fadump crash dump capturing methods, as both these methods set elfcorehdr_addr. Some restrictions enforced for crash dump capture kernel, based on is_kdump_kernel(), are specifically meant for kdump case and not desirable for fadump - eg. IO queues restriction in device drivers. So, define is_kdump_kernel() to return false when f/w assisted dump is active. vmcore: convert copy_oldmem_page() to take an iov_iter Patch series "Convert vmcore to use an iov_iter", v5. For some reason several people have been sending bad patches to fix compiler warnings in vmcore recently. Here's how it should be done. Compile-tested only on x86. As noted in the first patch, s390 should take this conversion a bit further, but I'm not inclined to do that work myself. This patch (of 3): Instead of passing in a 'buf' and 'userbuf' argument, pass in an iov_iter. s390 needs more work to pass the iov_iter down further, or refactor, but I'd be more comfortable if someone who can test on s390 did that work. It's more convenient to convert the whole of read_from_oldmem() to take an iov_iter at the same time, so rename it to read_from_oldmem_iter() and add a temporary read_from_oldmem() wrapper that creates an iov_iter. powerpc: Use a datatype for instructions Currently unsigned ints are used to represent instructions on powerpc. This has worked well as instructions have always been 4 byte words. However, ISA v3.1 introduces some changes to instructions that mean this scheme will no longer work as well. This change is Prefixed Instructions. A prefixed instruction is made up of a word prefix followed by a word suffix to make an 8 byte double word instruction. No matter the endianness of the system the prefix always comes first. Prefixed instructions are only planned for powerpc64. Introduce a ppc_inst type to represent both prefixed and word instructions on powerpc64 while keeping it possible to exclusively have word instructions on powerpc32. powerpc/crashdump : Fix page frame number check in copy_oldmem_page In copy_oldmem_page, the current check using max_pfn and min_low_pfn to decide if the page is backed or not, is not valid when the memory layout is not continuous. This happens when running as a QEMU/KVM guest, where RTAS is mapped higher in the memory. In that case max_pfn points to the end of RTAS, and a hole between the end of the kdump kernel and RTAS is not backed by PTEs. As a consequence, the kdump kernel is crashing in copy_oldmem_page when accessing in a direct way the pages in that hole. This fix relies on the memblock's service memblock_is_region_memory to check if the read page is part or not of the directly accessible memory. powerpc: Rename mapping based RELOCATABLE to DYNAMIC_MEMSTART for BookE The current implementation of CONFIG_RELOCATABLE in BookE is based on mapping the page aligned kernel load address to KERNELBASE. This approach however is not enough for platforms, where the TLB page size is large (e.g, 256M on 44x). So we are renaming the RELOCATABLE used currently in BookE to DYNAMIC_MEMSTART to reflect the actual method. The CONFIG_RELOCATABLE for PPC32(BookE) based on processing of the dynamic relocations will be introduced in the later in the patch series. This change would allow the use of the old method of RELOCATABLE for platforms which can afford to enforce the page alignment (platforms with smaller TLB size). powerpc: Support for relocatable kdump kernel This adds relocatable kernel support for kdump. With this one can use the same regular kernel to capture the kdump. A signature (0xfeed1234) is passed in r6 from panic code to the next kernel through kexec_sequence and purgatory code. The signature is used to differentiate between kdump kernel and non-kdump kernels. The purgatory code compares the signature and sets the __kdump_flag in head_64.S. During the boot up, kernel code checks __kdump_flag and if it is set, the kernel will behave as relocatable kdump kernel. This kernel will boot at the address where it was loaded by kexec-tools ie. at the address reserved through crashkernel boot parameter. CONFIG_CRASH_DUMP depends on CONFIG_RELOCATABLE option to build kdump kernel as relocatable. So the same kernel can be used as production and kdump kernel. kdump: make elfcorehdr_addr independent of CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE o elfcorehdr_addr is used by not only the code under CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE but also by the code which is not inside CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE. For example, is_kdump_kernel() is used by powerpc code to determine if kernel is booting after a panic then use previous kernel's TCE table. So even if CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE is not set in second kernel, one should be able to correctly determine that we are booting after a panic and setup calgary iommu accordingly. o So remove the assumption that elfcorehdr_addr is under CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE. o Move definition of elfcorehdr_addr to arch dependent crash files. (Unfortunately crash dump does not have an arch independent file otherwise that would have been the best place). o kexec.c is not the right place as one can Have CRASH_DUMP enabled in second kernel without KEXEC being enabled. o I don't see sh setup code parsing the command line for elfcorehdr_addr. powerpc: Allow create_branch() to return errors Currently create_branch() creates a branch instruction for you, and patches it into the call site. In some circumstances it would be nice to be able to create the instruction and patch it later, and also some code might want to check for errors in the branch creation before doing the patching. A future commit will change create_branch() to check for errors. For callers that don't care, replace create_branch() with patch_branch(), which just creates the branch and patches it directly. While we're touching all the callers, change to using unsigned int *, as this seems to match usage better. That allows (and requires) us to remove the volatile in the definition of vector in powermac/smp.c and mpc86xx_smp.c, that's correct because now that we're passing vector as an unsigned int * the compiler knows that it's value might change across the patch_branch() call. [POWERPC] Make doc comments extractable We don't have much in the way of doc comments, but some of those we do have don't work because they start with "/***" or "/*", not "/**" which is what kernel-doc requires. [PATCH] powerpc: Kdump header cleanup We need to know the base address of the kdump kernel even when we're not a kdump kernel, so add a #define for it. Move the logic that sets the kdump kernelbase into kdump.h instead of page.h. Rename kdump_setup() to setup_kdump_trampoline() to make it clearer what it's doing, and add an empty definition for the !CRASH_DUMP case to avoid a Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <michael@ellerman.id.au> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

[PATCH] Don't pass boot parameters to argv_init[] The boot cmdline is parsed in parse_early_param() and parse_args(,unknown_bootoption). And __setup() is used in obsolete_checksetup(). start_kernel() -> parse_args() -> unknown_bootoption() -> obsolete_checksetup() If __setup()'s callback (->setup_func()) returns 1 in obsolete_checksetup(), obsolete_checksetup() thinks a parameter was handled. If ->setup_func() returns 0, obsolete_checksetup() tries other ->setup_func(). If all ->setup_func() that matched a parameter returns 0, a parameter is seted to argv_init[]. Then, when runing /sbin/init or init=app, argv_init[] is passed to the app. If the app doesn't ignore those arguments, it will warning and exit. This patch fixes a wrong usage of it, however fixes obvious one only. [PATCH] powerpc: Add arch dependent basic infrastructure for Kdump. Implementing the machine_crash_shutdown which will be called by crash_kexec (called in case of a panic, sysrq etc.). Disable the interrupts, shootdown cpus using debugger IPI and collect regs for all CPUs. elfcorehdr= specifies the location of elf core header stored by the crashed kernel. This command line option will be passed by the kexec-tools to capture kernel. savemaxmem= specifies the actual memory size that the first kernel has and this value will be used for dumping in the capture kernel. [PATCH] powerpc: Reroute interrupts from 0 + offset to PHYSICAL_START + offset Regardless of where the kernel's linked we always get interrupts at low addresses. This patch creates a trampoline in the first 3 pages of memory, where interrupts land, and patches those addresses to jump into the real kernel code at PHYSICAL_START. We also need to reserve the trampoline code and a bit more in prom.c Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <michael@ellerman.id.au> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
