1VIMTUTOR(1) VIMTUTOR(1) 2 3 4 5NAME 6 vimtutor - the Vim tutor 7 8SYNOPSIS 9 vimtutor [-g] [language] 10 11DESCRIPTION 12 Vimtutor starts the Vim tutor. It copies the tutor file first, so that 13 it can be modified without changing the original file. 14 15 The Vimtutor is useful for people that want to learn their first Vim 16 commands. 17 18 The optional argument -g starts vimtutor with gvim rather than vim, if 19 the GUI version of vim is available, or falls back to Vim if gvim is 20 not found. 21 22 The optional [language] argument is the two-letter name of a language, 23 like "it" or "es". If the [language] argument is missing, the language 24 of the current locale will be used. If a tutor in this language is 25 available, it will be used. Otherwise the English version will be 26 used. 27 28 Vim is always started in Vi compatible mode. 29 30FILES 31 /usr/local/lib/vim/tutor/tutor[.language] 32 The Vimtutor text file(s). 33 34 /usr/local/lib/vim/tutor/tutor.vim 35 The Vim script used to copy the Vimtutor text file. 36 37AUTHOR 38 The Vimtutor was originally written for Vi by Michael C. Pierce and 39 Robert K. Ware, Colorado School of Mines using ideas supplied by 40 Charles Smith, Colorado State University. E-mail: bware@mines.col‐ 41 orado.edu. 42 It was modified for Vim by Bram Moolenaar.
