4This is a AC97 sound driver for certain chipsets.

6It does provide sound playback, but not recording.

8The driver is known to work with the following chipsets:
9 Intel ICH, ICH1, ICH2, ICH3, ICH4, ICH5,
10 NVIDIA nForce (MCP), NVIDIA nForce 2 (MCP2)
11 and SIS 7012.

13The driver may work with the following chipsets:
14 AMD 8111, AMD 768.

16VIA and SIS 7018 chipsets are not supported.

21If your Computer Crashes

24If your computer crashes, you may want to remove the driver.

26Reboot and hold down the space bar during booting.
27Select "select save mode options", press enter.
28Select "Disable user add-ons", press enter to activate it
29Select "Return to main menu", press enter.
30Select "Continue booting", press enter
31Remove the driver file, using the uninstall.sh script.

37Run the install.sh script to install the driver.

39Open Media Preferences.
40Make sure Realtime audio is enabled.
41Restart the Media Services.
42After restart is completed:
43 select "AC97 (ICH)" as default Audio Output.
44 select "None In" as default Audio Input.

52If the Driver Doesn't Work

55If the driver doesn't work, you may need to alter some
56settings in your computer's BIOS.
571) If there is a BIOS option to select the operating system,
58select "Other". Do not select "Windows98 / Windows 2000".
592) If there is a BIOS option called "PnP OS installed" select "No"
60or "Disabled". Do not select "Yes" or "Enabled".
613) If there is a BIOS option called "AC97 audio" select "Auto"
62or "Enabled". Do not select "Disabled".
634) If there is a BIOS option to assign an IRQ to "INT2" or "PINB",
64make sure it is set to "Auto" or a free IRQ. Do not use "none".
655) It may also help to enable a "AC97 modem" option.

676) If you can't get it working, send me an email.

69After you get it, install it. Then send me a second email.
70Make sure that you attach the file ich_ac97.log that is created
71in your home directory every time the driver is loaded. It
72includes important debug information, like the kind of codec used.
73Include the name of your motherboard and it's chipset, a URL
74to the board on it's manufactor's website would be nice.
