H A D | find.h | diff e79864f3 Wed Sep 14 20:07:29 MDT 2022 Yury Norov <yury.norov@gmail.com> lib/find_bit: optimize find_next_bit() functions Over the past couple years, the function _find_next_bit() was extended with parameters that modify its behavior to implement and- zero- and le- flavors. The parameters are passed at compile time, but current design prevents a compiler from optimizing out the conditionals. As find_next_bit() API grows, I expect that more parameters will be added. Current design would require more conditional code in _find_next_bit(), which would bloat the helper even more and make it barely readable. This patch replaces _find_next_bit() with a macro FIND_NEXT_BIT, and adds a set of wrappers, so that the compile-time optimizations become possible. The common logic is moved to the new macro, and all flavors may be generated by providing a FETCH macro parameter, like in this example: #define FIND_NEXT_BIT(FETCH, MUNGE, size, start) ... find_next_xornot_and_bit(addr1, addr2, addr3, size, start) { return FIND_NEXT_BIT(addr1[idx] ^ ~addr2[idx] & addr3[idx], /* nop */, size, start); } The FETCH may be of any complexity, as soon as it only refers the bitmap(s) and an iterator idx. MUNGE is here to support _le code generation for BE builds. May be empty. I ran find_bit_benchmark 16 times on top of 6.0-rc2 and 16 times on top of 6.0-rc2 + this series. The results for kvm/x86_64 are: v6.0-rc2 Optimized Difference Z-score Random dense bitmap ns ns ns % find_next_bit: 787735 670546 117189 14.9 3.97 find_next_zero_bit: 777492 664208 113284 14.6 10.51 find_last_bit: 830925 687573 143352 17.3 2.35 find_first_bit: 3874366 3306635 567731 14.7 1.84 find_first_and_bit: 40677125 37739887 2937238 7.2 1.36 find_next_and_bit: 347865 304456 43409 12.5 1.35 Random sparse bitmap find_next_bit: 19816 14021 5795 29.2 6.10 find_next_zero_bit: 1318901 1223794 95107 7.2 1.41 find_last_bit: 14573 13514 1059 7.3 6.92 find_first_bit: 1313321 1249024 64297 4.9 1.53 find_first_and_bit: 8921 8098 823 9.2 4.56 find_next_and_bit: 9796 7176 2620 26.7 5.39 Where the statistics is significant (z-score > 3), the improvement is ~15%. If so, include the firmware version in the wm_adsp fwf_name string. If the firmware has already been patched by the BIOS the driver can only replace it if it has control of hard RESET. If the driver cannot replace the firmware, it can still load a wmfw (for ALSA control definitions) and/or a bin (for additional tunings). But these must match the version of firmware that is running on the CS35L56. The firmware is pre-patched if FIRMWARE_MISSING == 0. Silicon revision and secured flag are included in the firmware filename to pick a firmware compatible with the part. While the locking expectations in this driver are a bit unclear, the Fixed commit only intended to protect the sta_ptr, so we can drop the lock as soon as we're done with it. IIUC, this deadlock cannot actually happen, because command event processing (which calls mwifiex_process_sta_tx_pause()) is sequentialized with TX packet processing (e.g., mwifiex_dequeue_tx_packet()) via the main loop (mwifiex_main_process()). But it's good not to leave this potential issue lurking. To keep the characters to be consistent, 8723d uses thermal meter to assist in calibrating LCK, IQK, crystal and TX power. A base thermal value is programmed in efuse, all calibration data in MP process is based on this thermal value. So we calucate the delta of thermal value between the base value, and use this delta to reference XTAL and TX power offset tables to know how much we need to adjust. For IQK and LCK, driver checks if delta of thermal value is over 8, then they are triggered. For crystal adjustment, when delta of thermal value is changed, we check XTAL tables to get offset of XTAL value. If thermal value is larger than base value, positive table (_p as suffix) is used. Otherwise, we use negative table (_n as suffix). Then, we add offset to XTAL default value programmed in efuse, and write sum value to register. To compensate TX power, there are two hierarchical tables. First level use delta of thermal value to access eight tables to yield delta of TX power index. Then, plus base TX power index to get index of BB swing table (second level tables) where register value is induced. BB swing table can't deal with all cases, if index of BB swing table is over the size of the table. In this case, TX AGC is used to compensate the remnant part. Assume 'upper' is the upper bound of BB swing table, and 'target' is the desired index. Then, we can illustrate them as compensation method BB swing TX AGC ------------------- -------- -------------- target > upper upper target - upper target < 0 0 target otherwise target 0 For debug purpose, add a column 'rem' to tx_pwr_tbl entry, and it looks like path rate pwr base (byr lmt ) rem A CCK_1M 32(0x20) 34 -2 ( 0 -2) 0 Signed-off-by: Ping-Ke Shih <pkshih@realtek.com> Signed-off-by: Yan-Hsuan Chuang <yhchuang@realtek.com> Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@codeaurora.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20200512102621.5148-4-yhchuang@realtek.com |
