and use U_BOOT_LONGHELP to declare the same variable name as before

mtd: nand: Mark reserved blocks

Reserved blocks are used for storing bad block tables. With "nand bad"
command, these reserved blocks are shown as bad blocks. This is leading
to confusion when compared with Linux bad blocks. Hence, display
"bbt reserved" when printing reserved blocks with "nand bad" command.

To acheive this, return 2 which represents reserved from nand_isbad_bbt()
instead of 1 in case of reserved blocks and catch it in cmd/nand.c.

"nand bad" command display's hexadecimal numbers, so add "0x" prefix.

Example log will show up as below.

cmd: nand biterr - Add support for nand biterr command

The command shall be used to induce bit errors in the nand page
manually. The code flips a bit in the specified offset without
changing the ECC. This helps to see how the software handles the
error.

image: Adjust the workings of fit_check_format()

At present this function does not accept a size for the FIT. This means
that it must be read from the FIT itself, introducing potential security
risk. Update the function to include a size parameter, which can be
invalid, in which case fit_check_format() calculates it.

For now no callers pass the size, but this can be updated later.

Also adjust the return value to an error code so that all the different
types of problems can be distinguished by the user.

We should not use typedefs in U-Boot. They cannot be used as forward
declarations which means that header files must include the full header to
access them.

Drop the typedef and rename the struct to remove the _s suffix which is
now not useful.

This requires quite a few header-file additions.

cmd: nand/sf: isolate legacy code

The 'sf' command is not supposed to rely on the MTD stack, but both
'sf' and 'nand' commands use helpers located in mtd_uboot.c. Despite
their location, these functions do not depend at all on the MTD
stack.

This file (drivers/mtd/mtd_uboot.c) is only compiled if CONFIG_MTD is
selected, which is inconsistent with the current situation. Solve this
by moving these three functions (which are only used by the above two
commands) out of mtd_uboot.c and put them in a C file only compiled
with cmd/sf.c and cmd/nand.c.

function 'mtd_id_parse()' which was renamed from 'id_parse()' in
commit 68d7d65100e8 ("Separate mtdparts command from jffs2"), but that
function is not used (anymore?) in cmd nand and build is fine without
that declaration, so it's probably just safe to remove.

If the value of either "nand options" or "bbt options" has a zero in
the most significant nibble, the '0x' prefix will be isolated from the
value like shown below:

If we do nand device 0 command in u-boot on a device that has NAND support
enabled but no NAND chip, we can get data abort at least on omaps.

Fix the issue by replacing the check with nand_info[dev] as
suggested by Scott Wood. The check for name existed before because before
the array-to-pointer conversion there was no way to directly test
nand_info[dev] for emptiness.

cmd, nand: add an option to disable the verification when writing in raw mode

Modern NANDs do not guarantee that data written in raw mode will not
contain bitflips just after writing them. This is fine since the number
of bitflips should be rather low and thus fixable by the ECC engine,
but since we are reading data in raw mode to verify if they match the
input data we cannot prevent failures if some bits are flipped.

The option of using standard mode to verify the data is not acceptable
either, since one of the usage of raw mode is to allow flashing images
that do not respect the standard NAND page layout or the default ECC
config (this is the case on Allwinner platforms, where the ROM code
tests several hardcoded configs, which are not necessarily matching the
NAND characteristics).

Add an extension to the nand write.raw command allowing one to disable
the verification step.

nand torture currently works on exactly one nand block which is specified
by giving the byteoffset to the beginning of the block.

Extend this by allowing for a second parameter specifying the byte size
to be tested.

nand_info[] is now an array of pointers, with the actual mtd_info
instance embedded in struct nand_chip.

This is in preparation for syncing the NAND code with Linux 4.6,
which makes the same change to struct nand_chip. It's in a separate
commit due to the large amount of changes required to accommodate the
change to nand_info[].

nand: extend nand torture

nand torture currently works on exactly one nand block which is specified
by giving the byteoffset to the beginning of the block.

Extend this by allowing for a second parameter specifying the byte size
to be tested.

e.g.
==> nand torture 1000000

NAND torture: device 0 offset 0x1000000 size 0x20000 (block size 0x20000)
Passed: 1, failed: 0

==> nand torture 1000000 40000

NAND torture: device 0 offset 0x1000000 size 0x40000 (block size 0x20000)

These functions are part of the Linux 4.6 sync. They are being added
before the main sync patch in order to make it easier to address the
issue across all NAND drivers (many/most of which do not closely track
their Linux counterparts) separately from other merge issues.

nand: Embed mtd_info in struct nand_chip

nand_info[] is now an array of pointers, with the actual mtd_info
instance embedded in struct nand_chip.

This is in preparation for syncing the NAND code with Linux 4.6,
which makes the same change to struct nand_chip. It's in a separate
commit due to the large amount of changes required to accommodate the
change to nand_info[].

mtd: nand: Mark reserved blocks

Reserved blocks are used for storing bad block tables. With "nand bad"
command, these reserved blocks are shown as bad blocks. This is leading
to confusion when compared with Linux bad blocks. Hence, display
"bbt reserved" when printing reserved blocks with "nand bad" command.

To acheive this, return 2 which represents reserved from nand_isbad_bbt()
instead of 1 in case of reserved blocks and catch it in cmd/nand.c.

"nand bad" command display's hexadecimal numbers, so add "0x" prefix.

Example log will show up as below.

The command shall be used to induce bit errors in the nand page
manually. The code flips a bit in the specified offset without
changing the ECC. This helps to see how the software handles the
error.

image: Adjust the workings of fit_check_format()

At present this function does not accept a size for the FIT. This means
that it must be read from the FIT itself, introducing potential security
risk. Update the function to include a size parameter, which can be
invalid, in which case fit_check_format() calculates it.

For now no callers pass the size, but this can be updated later.

Also adjust the return value to an error code so that all the different
types of problems can be distinguished by the user.

cmd: nand/sf: isolate legacy code

The 'sf' command is not supposed to rely on the MTD stack, but both
'sf' and 'nand' commands use helpers located in mtd_uboot.c. Despite
their location, these functions do not depend at all on the MTD
stack.

This file (drivers/mtd/mtd_uboot.c) is only compiled if CONFIG_MTD is
selected, which is inconsistent with the current situation. Solve this
by moving these three functions (which are only used by the above two
commands) out of mtd_uboot.c and put them in a C file only compiled
with cmd/sf.c and cmd/nand.c.

If the value of either "nand options" or "bbt options" has a zero in
the most significant nibble, the '0x' prefix will be isolated from the
value like shown below:

If we do nand device 0 command in u-boot on a device that has NAND support
enabled but no NAND chip, we can get data abort at least on omaps.

Fix the issue by replacing the check with nand_info[dev] as
suggested by Scott Wood. The check for name existed before because before
the array-to-pointer conversion there was no way to directly test
nand_info[dev] for emptiness.

cmd, nand: add an option to disable the verification when writing in raw mode

Modern NANDs do not guarantee that data written in raw mode will not
contain bitflips just after writing them. This is fine since the number
of bitflips should be rather low and thus fixable by the ECC engine,
but since we are reading data in raw mode to verify if they match the
input data we cannot prevent failures if some bits are flipped.

The option of using standard mode to verify the data is not acceptable
either, since one of the usage of raw mode is to allow flashing images
that do not respect the standard NAND page layout or the default ECC
config (this is the case on Allwinner platforms, where the ROM code
tests several hardcoded configs, which are not necessarily matching the
NAND characteristics).

Add an extension to the nand write.raw command allowing one to disable
the verification step.

before the main sync patch in order to make it easier to address the
issue across all NAND drivers (many/most of which do not closely track

nand_info[] is now an array of pointers, with the actual mtd_info
instance embedded in struct nand_chip.

This is in preparation for syncing the NAND code with Linux 4.6,
which makes the same change to struct nand_chip. It's in a separate
commit due to the large amount of changes required to accommodate the
change to nand_info[].

changing the ECC. This helps to see how the software handles the

image: Adjust the workings of fit_check_format()

At present this function does not accept a size for the FIT. This means
that it must be read from the FIT itself, introducing potential security
risk. Update the function to include a size parameter, which can be
invalid, in which case fit_check_format() calculates it.

For now no callers pass the size, but this can be updated later.

Also adjust the return value to an error code so that all the different
types of problems can be distinguished by the user.

cmd: nand/sf: isolate legacy code

The 'sf' command is not supposed to rely on the MTD stack, but both
'sf' and 'nand' commands use helpers located in mtd_uboot.c. Despite
their location, these functions do not depend at all on the MTD
stack.

This file (drivers/mtd/mtd_uboot.c) is only compiled if CONFIG_MTD is
selected, which is inconsistent with the current situation. Solve this
by moving these three functions (which are only used by the above two
commands) out of mtd_uboot.c and put them in a C file only compiled
with cmd/sf.c and cmd/nand.c.

the most significant nibble, the '0x' prefix will be isolated from the
value like shown below:

If we do nand device 0 command in u-boot on a device that has NAND support
enabled but no NAND chip, we can get data abort at least on omaps.

Fix the issue by replacing the check with nand_info[dev] as
suggested by Scott Wood. The check for name existed before because before
the array-to-pointer conversion there was no way to directly test
nand_info[dev] for emptiness.

cmd, nand: add an option to disable the verification when writing in raw mode

Modern NANDs do not guarantee that data written in raw mode will not
contain bitflips just after writing them. This is fine since the number
of bitflips should be rather low and thus fixable by the ECC engine,
but since we are reading data in raw mode to verify if they match the
input data we cannot prevent failures if some bits are flipped.

The option of using standard mode to verify the data is not acceptable
either, since one of the usage of raw mode is to allow flashing images
that do not respect the standard NAND page layout or the default ECC
config (this is the case on Allwinner platforms, where the ROM code
tests several hardcoded configs, which are not necessarily matching the
NAND characteristics).

Add an extension to the nand write.raw command allowing one to disable
the verification step.

image: Adjust the workings of fit_check_format()

At present this function does not accept a size for the FIT. This means
that it must be read from the FIT itself, introducing potential security
risk. Update the function to include a size parameter, which can be
invalid, in which case fit_check_format() calculates it.

For now no callers pass the size, but this can be updated later.

Also adjust the return value to an error code so that all the different
types of problems can be distinguished by the user.

We should not use typedefs in U-Boot. They cannot be used as forward
declarations which means that header files must include the full header to
access them.

Drop the typedef and rename the struct to remove the _s suffix which is
now not useful.

This requires quite a few header-file additions.

The 'sf' command is not supposed to rely on the MTD stack, but both
'sf' and 'nand' commands use helpers located in mtd_uboot.c. Despite
their location, these functions do not depend at all on the MTD
stack.

This file (drivers/mtd/mtd_uboot.c) is only compiled if CONFIG_MTD is
selected, which is inconsistent with the current situation. Solve this
by moving these three functions (which are only used by the above two
commands) out of mtd_uboot.c and put them in a C file only compiled
with cmd/sf.c and cmd/nand.c.

that declaration, so it's probably just safe to remove.

the most significant nibble, the '0x' prefix will be isolated from the
value like shown below:

If we do nand device 0 command in u-boot on a device that has NAND support
enabled but no NAND chip, we can get data abort at least on omaps.

Fix the issue by replacing the check with nand_info[dev] as
suggested by Scott Wood. The check for name existed before because before
the array-to-pointer conversion there was no way to directly test
nand_info[dev] for emptiness.

cmd, nand: add an option to disable the verification when writing in raw mode

Modern NANDs do not guarantee that data written in raw mode will not
contain bitflips just after writing them. This is fine since the number
of bitflips should be rather low and thus fixable by the ECC engine,
but since we are reading data in raw mode to verify if they match the
input data we cannot prevent failures if some bits are flipped.

The option of using standard mode to verify the data is not acceptable
either, since one of the usage of raw mode is to allow flashing images
that do not respect the standard NAND page layout or the default ECC
config (this is the case on Allwinner platforms, where the ROM code
tests several hardcoded configs, which are not necessarily matching the
NAND characteristics).

Add an extension to the nand write.raw command allowing one to disable
the verification step.

by giving the byteoffset to the beginning of the block.

Extend this by allowing for a second parameter specifying the byte size
to be tested.

instance embedded in struct nand_chip.

This is in preparation for syncing the NAND code with Linux 4.6,
which makes the same change to struct nand_chip. It's in a separate
commit due to the large amount of changes required to accommodate the
change to nand_info[].

'sf' and 'nand' commands use helpers located in mtd_uboot.c. Despite
their location, these functions do not depend at all on the MTD
stack.

This file (drivers/mtd/mtd_uboot.c) is only compiled if CONFIG_MTD is
selected, which is inconsistent with the current situation. Solve this
by moving these three functions (which are only used by the above two
commands) out of mtd_uboot.c and put them in a C file only compiled
with cmd/sf.c and cmd/nand.c.

At present this function does not accept a size for the FIT. This means
that it must be read from the FIT itself, introducing potential security
risk. Update the function to include a size parameter, which can be
invalid, in which case fit_check_format() calculates it.

For now no callers pass the size, but this can be updated later.

Also adjust the return value to an error code so that all the different
types of problems can be distinguished by the user.
