selftests/net: fix waiting time for ipv6_gc test in fib_tests.sh. ipv6_gc fails occasionally. According to the study, fib6_run_gc() using jiffies_round() to round the GC interval could increase the waiting time up to 750ms (3/4 seconds). The timer has a granularity of 512ms at the range 4s to 32s. That means a route with an expiration time E seconds can wait for more than E * 2 + 1 seconds if the GC interval is also E seconds. E * 2 + 2 seconds should be enough for waiting for removing routes. Also remove a check immediately after replacing 5 routes since it is very likely to remove some of routes before completing the last route with a slow environment. As David suggested, add tests: - Single device using src address - Two devices with the same source address - VRF with single device using src address - VRF with two devices using src address As Ido points out, in IPv6, the preferred source address is looked up in the same VRF as the first nexthop device. This will give us similar results to IPv4 if the route is installed in the same VRF as the nexthop device, but not when the nexthop device is enslaved to a different VRF. So add tests: - src address and nexthop dev in same VR - src address and nexthop device in different VRF The link local address delete logic is different from the global address. This can lead to a route in the default VRF with a preferred source address not being flushed when the address is deleted. Consider the following example: # ip address add dev dummy1 192.0.2.1/28 # ip address add dev dummy1 192.0.2.17/28 # ip route add 198.51.100.0/24 via 192.0.2.2 src 192.0.2.17 metric 100 # ip route add table 0 198.51.100.0/24 via 192.0.2.2 src 192.0.2.17 metric 200 # ip route show 198.51.100.0/24 198.51.100.0/24 via 192.0.2.2 dev dummy1 src 192.0.2.17 metric 100 198.51.100.0/24 via 192.0.2.2 dev dummy1 src 192.0.2.17 metric 200 Both routes are installed in the default VRF, but they are using two different FIB info structures. One with a metric of 100 and table ID of 254 (main) and one with a metric of 200 and table ID of 0. Therefore, when the preferred source address is deleted from the default VRF, the second route is not flushed: # ip address del dev dummy1 192.0.2.17/28 # ip route show 198.51.100.0/24 198.51.100.0/24 via 192.0.2.2 dev dummy1 src 192.0.2.17 metric 200 Fix by storing a table ID of 254 instead of 0 in the route configuration structure. Before this patch, IPv4 routes specifying an rtm_tos with some of the ECN bits set were accepted. However they wouldn't work (never match) as IPv4 normally clears the ECN bits with IPTOS_RT_MASK before doing a FIB lookup (although a few buggy code paths don't). selftests/fib_tests: Rework fib_rp_filter_test() Currently rp_filter tests in fib_tests.sh:fib_rp_filter_test() are failing. ping sockets are bound to dummy1 using the "-I" option (SO_BINDTODEVICE), but socket lookup is failing when receiving ping replies, since the routing table thinks they belong to dummy0. For example, suppose ping is using a SOCK_RAW socket for ICMP messages. When receiving ping replies, in __raw_v4_lookup(), sk->sk_bound_dev_if is 3 (dummy1), but dif (skb_rtable(skb)->rt_iif) says 2 (dummy0), so the raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() check fails. Similar things happen in ping_lookup() for SOCK_DGRAM sockets. These tests used to pass due to a bug [1] in iputils, where "ping -I" actually did not bind ICMP message sockets to device. The bug has been fixed by iputils commit f455fee41c07 ("ping: also bind the ICMP socket to the specific device") in 2016, which is why our rp_filter tests started to fail. See [2] . Fixing the tests while keeping everything in one netns turns out to be nontrivial. Rework the tests and build the following topology: ┌─────────────────────────────┐ ┌─────────────────────────────┐ │ network namespace 1 (ns1) │ │ network namespace 2 (ns2) │ │ │ │ │ │ ┌────┐ ┌─────┐ │ │ ┌─────┐ ┌────┐ │ │ │ lo │<───>│veth1│<────────┼────┼─>│veth2│<──────────>│ lo │ │ │ └────┘ ├─────┴──────┐ │ │ ├─────┴──────┐ └────┘ │ │ │192.0.2.1/24│ │ │ │192.0.2.1/24│ │ │ └────────────┘ │ │ └────────────┘ │ └─────────────────────────────┘ └─────────────────────────────┘ Consider sending an ICMP_ECHO packet A in ns2. Both source and destination IP addresses are 192.0.2.1, and we use strict mode rp_filter in both ns1 and ns2: 1. A is routed to lo since its destination IP address is one of ns2's local addresses (veth2); 2. A is redirected from lo's egress to veth2's egress using mirred; 3. A arrives at veth1's ingress in ns1; 4. A is redirected from veth1's ingress to lo's ingress, again, using mirred; 5. In __fib_validate_source(), fib_info_nh_uses_dev() returns false, since A was received on lo, but reverse path lookup says veth1; 6. However A is not dropped since we have relaxed this check for lo in commit 66f8209547cc ("fib: relax source validation check for loopback packets"); Making sure A is not dropped here in this corner case is the whole point of having this test. 7. As A reaches the ICMP layer, an ICMP_ECHOREPLY packet, B, is generated; 8. Similarly, B is redirected from lo's egress to veth1's egress (in ns1), then redirected once again from veth2's ingress to lo's ingress (in ns2), using mirred. Also test "ping 127.0.0.1" from ns2. It does not trigger the relaxed check in __fib_validate_source(), but just to make sure the topology works with loopback addresses. ipv4: Fix device used for dst_alloc with local routes Oliver reported a use case where deleting a VRF device can hang waiting for the refcnt to drop to 0. The root cause is that the dst is allocated against the VRF device but cached on the loopback device. The use case (added to the selftests) has an implicit VRF crossing due to the ordering of the FIB rules (lookup local is before the l3mdev rule, but the problem occurs even if the FIB rules are re-ordered with local after l3mdev because the VRF table does not have a default route to terminate the lookup). The end result is is that the FIB lookup returns the loopback device as the nexthop, but the ingress device is in a VRF. The mismatch causes the dst alloc against the VRF device but then cached on the loopback. The fix is to bring the trick used for IPv6 (see ip6_rt_get_dev_rcu): pick the dst alloc device based the fib lookup result but with checks that the result has a nexthop device (e.g., not an unreachable or prohibit entry). ipv6: Fix route replacement with dev-only route After commit 27596472473a ("ipv6: fix ECMP route replacement") it is no longer possible to replace an ECMP-able route by a non ECMP-able route. For example, ip route add 2001:db8::1/128 via fe80::1 dev dummy0 ip route replace 2001:db8::1/128 dev dummy0 does not work as expected. Tweak the replacement logic so that point 3 in the log of the above commit becomes: 3. If the new route is not ECMP-able, and no matching non-ECMP-able route exists, replace matching ECMP-able route (if any) or add the new route. We can now summarize the entire replace semantics to: When doing a replace, prefer replacing a matching route of the same "ECMP-able-ness" as the replace argument. If there is no such candidate, fallback to the first route found. ipv6: do not free rt if FIB_LOOKUP_NOREF is set on suppress rule Commit 7d9e5f422150 removed references from certain dsts, but accounting for this never translated down into the fib6 suppression code. This bug was triggered by WireGuard users who use wg-quick(8), which uses the "suppress-prefix" directive to ip-rule(8) for routing all of their internet traffic without routing loops. The test case added here causes the reference underflow by causing packets to evaluate a suppress rule. selftests: fib_tests: sleep after changing carrier. again. Just like commit e2ba732a1681 ("selftests: fib_tests: sleep after changing carrier"), wait one second to allow linkwatch to propagate the carrier change to the stack. There are two sets of carrier tests. The first slept after the carrier was set to off, and when the second set ran, it was likely that the linkwatch would be able to run again without much delay, reducing the likelihood of a race. However, if you run 'fib_tests.sh -t carrier' on a loop, you will quickly notice the failures. Sleeping on the second set of tests make the failures go away.
