ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for Fiero SC-01 (fw v1.0.0)

The patch applies the same quirks used for SC-01 at firmware v1.1.0 to
the ones running v1.0.0, with respect to hard-coded sample rates.

I got two more units and successfully tested the patch series with both
firmwares.

The support is now complete (not accounting ASIO).

ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for Fiero SC-01

Fiero SC-01 is a USB sound card with two mono inputs and a single
stereo output. The inputs are composed into a single stereo stream.

The device uses a vendor-provided driver on Windows and does not work
at all without it. The driver mostly provides ASIO functionality, but
also alters the way the sound card is queried for sample rates and
clocks.

ALSA queries those failing with an EPIPE (same as Windows 10 does).
Presumably, the vendor-provided driver does not query it at all, simply
matching by VID:PID. Thus, I consider this a buggy firmware and adhere
to a set of fixed endpoint quirks instead.

The soundcard has an internal clock. Implicit feedback mode is required
for the playback.

I have updated my device to v1.1.0 from a Windows 10 VM using a vendor-
provided binary prior to the development, hoping for it to just begin
working. The device provides no obvious way to downgrade the firmware,
and regardless, there's no binary available for v1.0.0 anyway.

Thus, I will be getting another unit to extend the patch with support
for that. Expected to be a simple copy-paste of the existing one,
though.

There were no previous reports of that device in context of Linux
anywhere. Other issues have been reported though, but that's out of the
scope.

ALSA: usb-audio: Set up (implicit) sync for Saffire 6

Focusrite Saffire 6 has fixed audioformat quirks with multiple
endpoints assigned to a single altsetting. Unfortunately the generic
parser couldn't detect the sync endpoint correctly as the implicit
sync due to the missing EP attribute bits. In the former kernels, it
used to work somehow casually, but it's been broken for a while after
the large code change in 5.11.

This patch cures the regression by the following:
- Allow the static quirk table to provide the sync EP information;
we just need to fill the fields and let the generic parser skipping
parsing if sync_ep is already set.
- Add the sync endpoint information to the entry for Saffire 6.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add missing ep_idx in fixed EP quirks

The quirk entry for Focusrite Saffire 6 had no proper ep_idx for the
capture endpoint, and this confused the driver, resulting in the
broken sound. This patch adds the missing ep_idx in the entry.

While we are at it, a couple of other entries (for Digidesign MBox and
MOTU MicroBook II) seem to have the same problem, and those are
covered as well.

ALSA: usb-audio: Restore Rane SL-1 quirk

At cleaning up and moving the device rename from the quirk table to
its own table, we removed the entry for Rane SL-1 as we thought it's
only for renaming. It turned out, however, that the quirk is required
for matching with the device that declares itself as no standard
audio but only as vendor-specific.

Restore the quirk entry for Rane SL-1 to fix the regression.

ALSA: usb-audio: Correct quirk for VF0770

This device provides both audio and video. The original quirk added in
commit 48827e1d6af5 ("ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for VF0770") used
USB_DEVICE to match the vendor and product ID. Depending on module order,
if snd-usb-audio was asked first, it would match the entire device and
uvcvideo wouldn't get to see it. Change the matching to USB_AUDIO_DEVICE
to restore uvcvideo matching in all cases.

ALSA: usb-audio: Provide quirk for Sennheiser GSP670 Headset

As per discussion at: https://github.com/szszoke/sennheiser-gsp670-pulseaudio-profile/issues/13

The GSP670 has 2 playback and 1 recording device that by default are
detected in an incompatible order for alsa. This may have been done to make
it compatible for the console by the manufacturer and only affects the
latest firmware which uses its own ID.

This quirk will resolve this by reordering the channels.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for VF0770

The device advertises 8 formats, but only a rate of 48kHz is honored
by the hardware and 24 bits give chopped audio, so only report the
one working combination. This fixes out-of-the-box audio experience
with PipeWire which otherwise attempts to choose S24_3LE (while
PulseAudio defaulted to S16_LE).

The txfr_quirk field was meant for aligning the transfer, and it's set
for certain devices in quirks-table.h. Now we can move that stuff
also to the new quirk_flags gracefully, and reduce the quirks-table.h
entries (that are exposed to module device table).

As the quirks-table.h entries are also with the name string override,
provide the corresponding entries to the usb_audio_names[] table,
too.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add support for Denon DN-X1600

This provides support for Denon DN-X1600 hardware mixer.

The device itself supports 44100, 48000 and 96000 (Hz)
sample rates, but switching rates via software is currently not working.
Therefore, this patch hardcodes the sample rate to 48000Hz which
enables all 8 channels to function correctly when the correct
sample rate is selected on the hardware itself.

MIDI also tested and works.

ALSA: usb-audio: Skip probe of UA-101 devices

UA-101 device and co are supported by another driver, snd-ua101, but
the USB audio class driver (snd-usb-audio) catches all and this
resulted in the lack of functionality like missing MIDI devices.

This patch introduces a sort of deny-listing for those devices to just
return -ENODEV at probe in snd-usb-audio driver, so that it falls back
to the probe by snd-ua101.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add DJM-450 to the quirks table

As with most Pioneer devices, the device descriptor is vendor specific
and as such, the number of channels, the PCM format, endpoints and
sample rate need to be specified. This device has 8 inputs and 8 outputs
and a sample rate of 48000 only. The PCM format is S24_3LE like other
devices.

There seems to be an appetite for reducing duplication amongs these
Pioneer patches but again, I feel this is a step to be taken after
support has been added as it's not completely clear where the
commonalities are.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add support for Pioneer DJM-750

This adds the Pioneer DJ DJM-750 to the quirks table and ensures
skip_pioneer_sync_ep() is (also) called: this device uses the vendor
ID of 0x08e4 (I'm not sure why they use multiple vendor IDs but many
just like to be awkward it seems).

Playback on all 8 channels works. I'll likely keep this working in the
future and submit futher patches and improvements as necessary.

There are devices that have multiple endpoints sharing the same
iface/altset not only for sync but also for the actual streams, and
the audioformat for such an endpoint needs to be handled with the
proper endpoint index; otherwise it confuses the endpoint management.

This patch extends the audioformat to annotate the endpoint index, and
put the proper ep_idx=1 to Pioneer device quirk entries accordingly.

ALSA: usb-audio: Always set up the parameters after resume

The commit 92adc96f8eec ("ALSA: usb-audio: set the interface format
after resume on Dell WD19") introduced the workaround for the broken
setup after the resume specifically on a Dell dock model. However,
the full setup should have been performed after the resume on all
devices, as we can't guarantee the same state. So this patch removes
the conditional check and applies the workaround always.

ALSA: usb-audio: Correct wrongly matching entries with audio class

The commit 51ab5d77dcb8 ("ALSA: usb-audio: Properly match with audio
interface class") converted the quirk entries that have both vid/pid
pair and bInterface fields to match with all those with a new macro
USB_AUDIO_CLASS(). However, it turned out that those are false
conversions; all those (but the unknown KeithMcMillen device) are
actually with vendor-specific interface class, hence the conversions
broke the matching.

This patch corrects those entries to the right one,
USB_DEVICE_VENDOR_SPEC() (and USB_DEVICE() for KeithMcMillen to be
sure), and drop the unused USB_AUDIO_CLASS macro again.

If USB autosuspend is enabled, both front and rear panel can no longer
detect jack insertion.

Enable USB remote wakeup, i.e. needs_remote_wakeup = 1, doesn't help
either.

So disable USB autosuspend to prevent missing jack detection event.

ALSA: usb-audio: Properly match with audio interface class

There are a few entries in the quirk table that set the device ID with
USB_DEVICE() macro while having an extra bInterfaceClass field. But
bInterfaceClass field is never checked unless the proper match_flags
is set, so those may match incorrectly with all interfaces.

Introduce another macro to match with the vid/pid pair and the audio
class interface, and apply it to such entries, so that they can match
properly.

ALSA: usb-audio: Move device rename and profile quirks to an internal table

So far we've added the devices that need vendor/product string renames
or the profile setup into the standard quirk table in quirks-table.h.
This table is imported into the primary USB audio device entry, hence
it's all exported for the probing so that udev and co can take a look
at it. OTOH, for renaming or profile setup, we don't need to expose
those explicit entries because the probe itself follows the standard
way. That said, we're exposing unnecessarily too many entries.

This patch moves such internal quirk entries into the own table, and
reduces the exported device table size. Along with the moving items,
re-arrange the entries in the proper order.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add support for Lenovo ThinkStation P620

Lenovo ThinkStation P620 is like other TRX40 boards, is equipped with
two USB audio cards.

USB device (17aa:104d) provides functionality for Internal Speaker and
Front Headset. It's UAC v2, so it supports insertion control (jack
detection). However, when trying to get the connector status of the
speaker, an error occurs:
[ 5.787405] usb 3-1: cannot get connectors status: req = 0x81, wValue = 0x200, wIndex = 0x1000, type = 0

Since the insertion control works perfectly for the headset, the error
for speaker is probably casued by connecting internally. So let's relax
the error for a bit if it's a speaker, and always reports it's connected.

USB device (17aa:1046) is for rear Line-in, Line-out and Microphone.
The insertion control works for all three jacks. However, there's an
Function Unit that doesn't work:

So turn off the FU to avoid the error.

ALSA: usb-audio: Quirks for Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Master onboard audio

Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Master is equipped with two USB-audio devices,
a Realtek ALC1220-VB codec (USB ID 0414:a001) and an ESS SABRE9218 DAC
(USB ID 0414:a000). The latter serves solely for the headphone output
on the front panel while the former serves for the rest I/Os (mostly
for the I/Os in the rear panel but also including the front mic).

Both chips do work more or less with the unmodified USB-audio driver,
but there are a few glitches. The ALC1220-VB returns an error for an
inquiry to some jacks, as already seen on other TRX40-based mobos.
However this machine has a slightly incompatible configuration, hence
the existing mapping cannot be used as is.

Meanwhile the ESS chip seems working without any quirk. But since
both audio devices don't provide any specific names, both cards appear
as "USB-Audio", and it's quite confusing for users.

This patch is an attempt to overcome those issues:

- The specific mapping table for ALC1220-VB is provided, reducing the
non-working nodes and renaming the badly chosen controls.
The connector map isn't needed here unlike other TRX40 quirks.

- For both USB IDs (0414:a000 and 0414:a001), provide specific card
name strings, so that user-space can identify more easily; and more
importantly, UCM profile can be applied to each.

ALSA: usb-audio: add mapping for ASRock TRX40 Creator

This is another TRX40 based motherboard with ALC1220-VB USB-audio
that requires a static mapping table.

This motherboard also has a PCI device which advertises no codecs. The
PCI ID is 1022:1487 and PCI SSID is 1022:d102. As this is using the AMD
vendor ID, don't blacklist for now in case other boards have a working
audio device with the same ssid.

Force it to use asynchronous playback.

Same quirk has already been added for Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd gen)
with a commit 46f5710f0b88 ("ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for Focusrite
Scarlett Solo").

This also seems to prevent regular clicks when playing at 44100Hz
on Scarlett 2i2 (2nd gen). I did not notice any side effects.

Moved both quirks to snd_usb_audioformat_attributes_quirk() as suggested.

TRX40 mobos from MSI and others with ALC1220-VB USB-audio device need
yet more quirks for the proper control names.

This patch provides the mapping table for those boards, correcting the
FU names for volume and mute controls as well as the terminal names
for jack controls. It also improves build_connector_control() not to
add the directional suffix blindly if the string is given from the
mapping table.

With this patch applied, the new UCM profiles will be effective.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add support for MOTU MicroBook IIc

MicroBook IIc operates in UAC2 mode by default. This patch addresses
several issues with it:

- MicroBook II and IIc shares the same USB ID. We can distinguish them
by interface class.
- MaxPacketsOnly attribute is erroneously set in endpoint descriptors.
As a result this card produces noise with all sample rates other than
96 KHz. This also causes issues like IOMMU page faults and other
problems with host controller.
- Sample rate changes takes more than 2 seconds for this device. Clock
validity request returns false during that period, so the clock validity
quirk is required.

ALSA: usb-audio: set the interface format after resume on Dell WD19

Recently we found the headset-mic on the Dell Dock WD19 doesn't work
anymore after s3 (s2i or deep), this problem could be workarounded by
closing (pcm_close) the app and then reopening (pcm_open) the app, so
this bug is not easy to be detected by users.

When problem happens, retire_capture_urb() could still be called
periodically, but the size of captured data is always 0, it could be
a firmware bug on the dock. Anyway I found after resuming, the
snd_usb_pcm_prepare() will be called, and if we forcibly run
set_format() to set the interface and its endpoint, the capture
size will be normal again. This problem and workaound also apply to
playback.

To fix it in the kernel, add a quirk to let set_format() run
forcibly once after resume.

The Emagic Unitor 8 does not provide iManufacturer and iProduct fields
in its device descriptor. These fields are used by alsa to make build the

media: sound/usb: Use Media Controller API to share media resources

Media Device Allocator API to allows multiple drivers share a media device.
This API solves a very common use-case for media devices where one physical
device (an USB stick) provides both audio and video. When such media device
exposes a standard USB Audio class, a proprietary Video class, two or more
independent drivers will share a single physical USB bridge. In such cases,
it is necessary to coordinate access to the shared resource.

Using this API, drivers can allocate a media device with the shared struct
device as the key. Once the media device is allocated by a driver, other
drivers can get a reference to it. The media device is released when all
the references are released.

Change the ALSA driver to use the Media Controller API to share media
resources with DVB, and V4L2 drivers on a AU0828 media device.

The Media Controller specific initialization is done after sound card is
registered. ALSA creates Media interface and entity function graph nodes
for Control, Mixer, PCM Playback, and PCM Capture devices.

snd_usb_hw_params() will call Media Controller enable source handler
interface to request the media resource. If resource request is granted,
it will release it from snd_usb_hw_free(). If resource is busy, -EBUSY is
returned.

Media specific cleanup is done in usb_audio_disconnect().

ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for Focusrite Scarlett Solo

The device reports Synch: Synchronous on the playback interface.
This causes regular audible napping on sample rates that are not multiples
of 1 kHz. Fix to Synch: Asynchronous.

Specifically observed on Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd generation. I assume
the first generation model has a different device ID. A first generation
Scarlett 2i2 I was able to test advertised Synch: Asynchronous by default.

For example, with a sample rate of 44100 Hz, a silent sample is played
every 40.96 seconds (likely 44.0 samples instead of 44.1 transmitted per
USB frame on average, 4096 being the size of some internal buffer).
There may be some other bug at play here since this doesn't happen
on other platforms. However, a feedback endpoint is listed and using it
fixes the issue. That is the only change in the quirk,
but I didn't find a way to declare only it.

Tested on two units and on two different computers.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add quirk for MOTU MicroBook II

Add an entry to the quirks-table to for usb-audio to recognize the
Microbook II (although it only exposes vendor interfaces). A simple boot
quirk is also implemented to set up the sample rate and make sure that
no audio urbs are sent before the device is ready.

This patch only provides audio playback and capture at 96kHz sample
rate. Notice the following shortcomings:

- The sample rate is currently hardcoded to 96k although the device also
supports 48k and 44.1k.

- The various mixer controls of the MicroBook are not made available.

- The keep-iface control should be on by default because the device
shuts down whenever the altsetting is reset which is usually unwanted.
(I don't know the best way to do this)

- The communication format used by the MicroBook for sample rate setting
and also other setup has been reverse engineered by looking at the
usbmon output while running the windows driver through virtualbox. In
this patch the first byte of every message is set to \0 while in the
observed communications the first byte acts as a "message-counter"
increasing its value with every message sent. Leaving it at \0 does
not seem to affect the device.

A quirk in snd-usb-audio was added to automate setting sample rate to
4800k and remove the previously exposed nonfunctional microphone for
the Bowers & Wilkins PX:

However the headphones where updated shortly after that to remove the
unintentional microphone functionality. I guess because of this the
headphones now crash when connecting them via USB while the quirk is

usb 2-3: 2:1: cannot get min/max values for control 2 (id 2)

This patch removes the microfone and allows the headphones to connect
and work out of the box. It is based on the current mainline kernel
and successfully applied an tested on my machine (4.18.10.arch1-1).

ALSA: usb-audio: Disable the quirk for Nura headset

The commit 33193dca671c ("ALSA: usb-audio: Add a quirk for Nura's
first gen headset") added a quirk for Nura headset with USB ID
0a12:1243, with a hope that it doesn't conflict with others.
Unfortunately, other devices (e.g. Philips Wecall) with the very same
ID got broken by this change, spewing an error like:
usb 2-1.8.2: 2:1: cannot set freq 48000 to ep 0x3

Until we find a proper solution, fix the regression at first by
disabling the added quirk entry.

The capture interface does not work, and the playback interface
actually supports only 48kHz unlike what is advertised (44.1, 32, 22,
16, 8).

The only unknown here is if there are other devices that use the same
product ID, but given that this ID is currently unknown, I would assume
it is specially allocated for the nura headset.

Unfortunately, this patch caused several regressions at au0828 and
snd-usb-audio, like this one:

It also showed several troubles at the MC core that handles pretty
poorly the memory protections and data lifetime management.

So, better to revert it and fix the core before reapplying this
change.

[media] sound/usb: Use Media Controller API to share media resources

Change ALSA driver to use Media Controller API to share media resources
with DVB and V4L2 drivers on a AU0828 media device. Media Controller
specific initialization is done after sound card is registered. ALSA
creates Media interface and entity function graph nodes for Control,
Mixer, PCM Playback, and PCM Capture devices.

snd_usb_hw_params() will call Media Controller enable source handler
interface to request the media resource. If resource request is
granted, it will release it from snd_usb_hw_free(). If resource is
busy, -EBUSY is returned.

Media specific cleanup is done in usb_audio_disconnect().

ALSA: usb-audio: prevent CH345 multiport output SysEx corruption

The CH345 USB MIDI chip has two output ports. However, they are
multiplexed through one pin, and the number of ports cannot be reduced
even for hardware that implements only one connector, so for those
devices, data sent to either port ends up on the same hardware output.
This becomes a problem when both ports are used at the same time, as
longer MIDI commands (such as SysEx messages) are likely to be
interrupted by messages from the other port, and thus to get lost.

It would not be possible for the driver to detect how many ports the
device actually has, except that in practice, _all_ devices built with
the CH345 have only one port. So we can just ignore the device's
descriptors, and hardcode one output port.

ALSA: USB-audio: Add quirk for Zoom R16/24 playback

The Zoom R16/24 have a nonstandard playback format where each isochronous
packet contains a length descriptor in the first four bytes. (Curiously,
capture data does not contain this and requires no quirk.)

The quirk involves adding the extra length descriptor whenever outgoing
isochronous packets are generated, both in pcm.c (outgoing audio) and
endpoint.c (silent data).

In order to make the quirk as unintrusive as possible, for
pcm.c:prepare_playback_urb(), the isochronous packet descriptors are
initially set up in the same way no matter if the quirk is enabled or not.
Once it is time to actually copy the data into the outgoing packet buffer
(together with the added length descriptors) the isochronous descriptors
are adjusted in order take the increased payload length into account.

For endpoint.c:prepare_silent_urb() it makes more sense to modify the
actual function, partly because the function is less complex to start with
and partly because it is not as time-critical as prepare_playback_urb()
(whose bulk is run with interrupts disabled), so the (minute) additional
time spent in the non-quirk case is motivated by the simplicity of having
a single function for all cases.

The quirk is controlled by the new tx_length_quirk member in struct
snd_usb_substream and struct snd_usb_audio, which is conveyed to pcm.c
and endpoint.c from quirks.c in a similar manner to the txfr_quirk member
in the same structs.

In contrast to txfr_quirk however, the quirk is enabled directly in
quirks.c:create_standard_audio_quirk() by checking the USB ID in that
function. Another option would be to introduce a new
QUIRK_AUDIO_ZOOM_INTERFACE or somesuch, which would have made the quirk
very plain to see in the quirk table, but it was felt that the additional
code needed to implement it this way would just make the implementation
more complex with no real gain.

Tested with a Zoom R16, both by doing capture and playback separately
using arecord and aplay (8 channel capture and 2 channel playback,
respectively), as well as capture and playback together using Ardour, as
well as Audacity and Qtractor together with jackd.

The R24 is reportedly compatible with the R16 when used as an audio
interface. Both devices share the same USB ID and have the same number of
inputs (8) and outputs (2). Therefore "R16/24" is mentioned throughout the
patch.

Regression tested using an Edirol UA-5 in both class compliant (16-bit)
and "advanced" (24 bit, forces the use of quirks) modes.

ALSA: usb-audio: Fix audio output on Roland SC-D70 sound module

Roland SC-D70 reports its device class as vendor specific class and
the quirk QUIRK_AUDIO_FIXED_ENDPOINT was used for audio output.

In the quirks table the sampling rate was hard-coded to 44100 Hz
and therefore not worked when the sound module was in 48000 Hz mode.

In this change the quirk is changed to QUIRK_AUDIO_STANDARD_INTERFACE
but as the sound module reports incorrect bSubframeSize in its
descriptors, additional change is made in format.c to detect it and
to override it (which uses the existing code for Edirol SD-90).

Tested both when the sound module was in 44100 Hz mode and 48000 Hz
mode and both audio input and output. MIDI related part of the driver
is not touched.

ALSA: usb-audio: Add duplex mode for Digidesign Mbox 1 and enable mixer

This patch provides duplex support for the Digidesign Mbox 1 sound
card and has been a work in progress for about a year.
Users have confirmed on my website that previous versions of this patch
have worked on the hardware and I have been testing extensively.

It also enables the mixer control for providing clock source
selector based on the previous patch.
The sample rate has been hardcoded to 48kHz because it works better with
the S/PDIF sync mode when the sample rate is locked. This is the
highest rate that the device supports and no loss of functionality
is observed by restricting the sample rate apart from the inability to selec
a lower rate.

ALSA: usb-audio: Trust fields given in the quirk

The maxpacksize field is given in some quirks, but it gets ignored (in
favour of wMaxPacketSize from the first endpoint.) This patch favours
the one in the quirk.

Digidesign Mbox and Mbox 2 are the only affected quirks and the devices
are assumed to be working without this patch. So for safety against the
values in the quirk being incorrect, remove them.

The datainterval is also ignored but there are not currently any quirks
which choose to override this.

The hardware also has a PCM capture device which is not implemented in
this patch.

It may be possible to generalise this to Saffire 6 USB support and some
of the other Focusrite interfaces, but as I don't have access to these
devices we should wait until capture support is working first.

Capture support is not implemented because the code assumes the endpoint
to have its own interface (instead, it shares the interface with playback)
and some thought will be needed to lift this limitation.

Taking another look at the C400 descriptors, I see now that there is
a clock selector (0x80) for this device.
Right now, the clock source points to the internal clock (0x81), which
is also valid. When the external clock source (0x82) is selected in the
mixer, and the rates mismatch (if it's free-running it is fixed to
48KHz), xruns will occur.

Set the clock ID to the clock selector unit (0x81), which then
allows the validation code to function correctly.

ALSA: usb-audio: Fix kernel panic of Digidesign Mbox2 quirk

This patch is based on 3.8-rc1. It fixes two things:
1) A kernel panic caused by incorrect allocation of a u8 variable
"bootresponse".
2) A noisy dmesg (urb status -32) caused by broken pipe to an
invalid midi endpoint.

It is also a little cleaner because there is no need for a new

Support the Creative BT-D1 Bluetooth USB audio device. Before this
patch, Linux had trouble finding the correct USB descriptors and bailed
out with these messages:

no or invalid class specific endpoint descriptor

Now it still prints these messages on hotplug:

snd-usb-audio: probe of ...:1.0 failed with error -5
snd-usb-audio: probe of ...:1.2 failed with error -5
snd-usb-audio: probe of ...:1.3 failed with error -5

But the device works correctly, including the HID support.

The patch is diff'ed against 3.8-rc1 but should apply to older kernels
as well.

ALSA: usb-audio: Support for Digidesign Mbox 2 USB sound card:

This patch is the result of a lot of trial and error, since there are no specs
available for the device.

Full duplex support is provided, i.e. playback and recording in stereo.
The format is hardcoded at 48000Hz @ 24 bit, which is the maximum that the
device supports. Also, MIDI in and MIDI out both work.

Users will notice that the S/PDIF light also flashes when playback or recording
is active. I believe this means that S/PDIF input/output is simultaneously
activated with the analogue i/o during use.
But this particular functionality remains untested.

Note that this particular version of the patch is so far untested on the
physical hardware because I have not compiled a full kernel with the changes.
However, extensive testing has been done by many users of the hardware
who believe other versions of my patch have worked since circa 2009.

Probing this device currently fails in snd_usb_audio_probe() because
the call to snd_usb_create_mixer() fails. This is due to unknown or
non-standard interface descriptor subtypes in parse_audio_unit():

usbaudio: unit 51: unexpected type 0x09
snd-usb-audio: probe of 1-8:1.0 failed with error -5

Some people are working around this by recompiling usb-audio with the
call to snd_usb_create_mixer() commented out. It would be nice to
avoid that.

While the best idea would be to look into the mixer creation failure,
a reasonable short-term solution is to use quirks to only probe the
trouble-free interfaces. This allows audio and MIDI interfaces to be
used without any obvious issues.

Interface 0 is the main one to ignore. It contains lots of
control-fu, including the unexpected interface descriptor subtypes.
Interface 5 is for firmware updates and I'm not sure how to get
support for this. Interface 3 is some sort of control interface that
I don't understand:

ALSA: usb-audio: USB audio quirk for Roland VG-99 advanced mode

Without this quirk the VG-99 will work in standard mode (set under
USB on System menu page 2) giving 16 bits at 44.1 Khz audio in/out
but no midi, and is not recognised when set to advanced mode.

After applying this, I can also use the VG-99 in advanced mode: 24
24 bits audio in/out at 44.1 Khz, and midi in/out. Sysex is so far
untested.

In standard mode, the device appears with ID 0x00b3, so the
behaviour isn't affected by this quirk.

Thanks to Clemens Ladisch for simplifying and correcting my initial
attempt!

is already supported by usb-storage for Backup/Rhythm Editor/Wave
Convertor mode which should not conflict with this.

ALSA: usb-audio: add support for Native Instruments MK2 devices

The MK2 generation of Native Instruments' sound cards are in fact
compliant to the USB audio standard of version 2 and other approved USB
standards. However, they come up as vendor-specific device when first
connected but can be told to come up with a new set of descriptors
upon their next enumeration. The interfaces announced by the new
descriptors will be handled by the kernel's class drivers. This is done
by issuing a vendor specific device request and sending the device to
reset.

There are also some vendor-specific USB requests for some mixer elements
that can't be exported in a standard compliant way. The driver now
supports them with quirks handling mechanisms.

ALSA: usb-audio: refactor code

Clean up the usb audio driver by factoring out a lot of functions to
separate files. Code for procfs, quirks, urbs, format parsers etc all
got a new home now.

Moved almost all special quirk handling to quirks.c and introduced new
generic functions to handle them, so the exceptions do not pollute the
whole driver.

Renamed usbaudio.c to card.c because this is what it actually does now.
Renamed usbmidi.c to midi.c for namespace clarity.
Removed more things from usbaudio.h.

The non-standard drivers were adopted accordingly.
