erspan: make sure erspan_base_hdr is present in skb->head syzbot reported a problem in ip6erspan_rcv() [1] Issue is that ip6erspan_rcv() (and erspan_rcv()) no longer make sure erspan_base_hdr is present in skb linear part (skb->head) before getting @ver field from it. Add the missing pskb_may_pull() calls. v2: Reload iph pointer in erspan_rcv() after pskb_may_pull() because skb->head might have changed. ipv6: ensure sane device mtu in tunnels Another syzbot report [1] with no reproducer hints at a bug in ip6_gre tunnel (dev:ip6gretap0) Since ipv6 mcast code makes sure to read dev->mtu once and applies a sanity check on it (see commit b9b312a7a451 "ipv6: mcast: better catch silly mtu values"), a remaining possibility is that a layer is able to set dev->mtu to an underflowed value (high order bit set). This could happen indeed in ip6gre_tnl_link_config_route(), ip6_tnl_link_config() and ipip6_tunnel_bind_dev() Make sure to sanitize mtu value in a local variable before it is written once on dev->mtu, as lockless readers could catch wrong temporary value. ip_gre, ip6_gre: Fix race condition on o_seqno in collect_md mode As pointed out by Jakub Kicinski, currently using TUNNEL_SEQ in collect_md mode is racy for [IP6]GRE[TAP] devices. Consider the following sequence of events: 1. An [IP6]GRE[TAP] device is created in collect_md mode using "ip link add ... external". "ip" ignores "[o]seq" if "external" is specified, so TUNNEL_SEQ is off, and the device is marked as NETIF_F_LLTX (i.e. it uses lockless TX); 2. Someone sets TUNNEL_SEQ on outgoing skb's, using e.g. bpf_skb_set_tunnel_key() in an eBPF program attached to this device; 3. gre_fb_xmit() or __gre6_xmit() processes these skb's: gre_build_header(skb, tun_hlen, flags, protocol, tunnel_id_to_key32(tun_info->key.tun_id), (flags & TUNNEL_SEQ) ? htonl(tunnel->o_seqno++) : 0); ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Since we are not using the TX lock (&txq->_xmit_lock), multiple CPUs may try to do this tunnel->o_seqno++ in parallel, which is racy. Fix it by making o_seqno atomic_t. As mentioned by Eric Dumazet in commit b790e01aee74 ("ip_gre: lockless xmit"), making o_seqno atomic_t increases "chance for packets being out of order at receiver" when NETIF_F_LLTX is on. Maybe a better fix would be: 1. Do not ignore "oseq" in external mode. Users MUST specify "oseq" if they want the kernel to allow sequencing of outgoing packets; 2. Reject all outgoing TUNNEL_SEQ packets if the device was not created with "oseq". Unfortunately, that would break userspace. We could now make [IP6]GRE[TAP] devices always NETIF_F_LLTX, but let us do it in separate patches to keep this fix minimal. Later (in clsact Qdisc), the eBPF program sets a new tunnel key for skb A using bpf_skb_set_tunnel_key() (see _ip6gretap_set_tunnel()); 4. __gre6_xmit() detects the new tunnel key, and recalculates "tun_hlen" (e.g. 12) based on new flags (e.g. TUNNEL_KEY and TUNNEL_SEQ); 5. gre_build_header() calls skb_push() with insufficient reserved header room, triggering the BUG. As sugguested by Cong, fix it by moving the call to skb_cow_head() after the recalculation of tun_hlen. xfrm: fix policy lookup for ipv6 gre packets On egress side, xfrm lookup is called from __gre6_xmit() with the fl6_gre_key field not initialized leading to policies selectors check failure. Consequently, gre packets are sent without encryption. On ingress side, INET6_PROTO_NOPOLICY was set, thus packets were not checked against xfrm policies. Like for egress side, fl6_gre_key should be correctly set, this is now done in decode_session6(). ip6_gre: Revert "ip6_gre: add validation for csum_start" This reverts commit 9cf448c200ba9935baa94e7a0964598ce947db9d. This commit was added for equivalence with a similar fix to ip_gre. That fix proved to have a bug. Upon closer inspection, ip6_gre is not susceptible to the original bug. So revert the unnecessary extra check. In short, ipgre_xmit calls skb_pull to remove ipv4 headers previously inserted by dev_hard_header. ip6gre_tunnel_xmit does not. ip6_gre: proper dev_{hold|put} in ndo_[un]init methods After adopting CONFIG_PCPU_DEV_REFCNT=n option, syzbot was able to trigger a warning [1] Issue here is that: - all dev_put() should be paired with a corresponding dev_hold(), and vice versa. - A driver doing a dev_put() in its ndo_uninit() MUST also do a dev_hold() in its ndo_init(), only when ndo_init() is returning 0. Otherwise, register_netdevice() would call ndo_uninit() in its error path and release a refcount too soon. ip6_gre for example (among others problematic drivers) has to use dev_hold() in ip6gre_tunnel_init_common() instead of from ip6gre_newlink_common(), covering both ip6gre_tunnel_init() and ip6gre_tap_init()/ Note that ip6gre_tunnel_init_common() is not called from ip6erspan_tap_init() thus we also need to add a dev_hold() there, as ip6erspan_tunnel_uninit() does call dev_put() [1] refcount_t: decrement hit 0; leaking memory. net: always use icmp{,v6}_ndo_send from ndo_start_xmit There were a few remaining tunnel drivers that didn't receive the prior conversion to icmp{,v6}_ndo_send. Knowing now that this could lead to memory corrution (see ee576c47db60 ("net: icmp: pass zeroed opts from icmp{,v6}_ndo_send before sending") for details), there's even more imperative to have these all converted. So this commit goes through the remaining cases that I could find and does a boring translation to the ndo variety. The Fixes: line below is the merge that originally added icmp{,v6}_ ndo_send and converted the first batch of icmp{,v6}_send users. The rationale then for the change applies equally to this patch. It's just that these drivers were left out of the initial conversion because these network devices are hiding in net/ rather than in drivers/net/. ip6_gre: fix use-after-free in ip6gre_tunnel_lookup() In the datapath, the ip6gre_tunnel_lookup() is used and it internally uses fallback tunnel device pointer, which is fb_tunnel_dev. This pointer variable should be set to NULL when a fb interface is deleted. But there is no routine to set fb_tunnel_dev pointer to NULL. net: ip6_gre: Distribute switch variables for initialization Variables declared in a switch statement before any case statements cannot be automatically initialized with compiler instrumentation (as they are not part of any execution flow). With GCC's proposed automatic stack variable initialization feature, this triggers a warning (and they don't get initialized). Clang's automatic stack variable initialization (via CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL=y) doesn't throw a warning, but it also doesn't initialize such variables[1]. Note that these warnings (or silent skipping) happen before the dead-store elimination optimization phase, so even when the automatic initializations are later elided in favor of direct initializations, the warnings remain. To avoid these problems, move such variables into the "case" where they're used or lift them up into the main function body. net/ipv6/ip6_gre.c: In function ‘ip6gre_err’: net/ipv6/ip6_gre.c:440:32: warning: statement will never be executed [-Wswitch-unreachable] 440 | struct ipv6_tlv_tnl_enc_lim *tel; | ^~~ net/ipv6/ip6_tunnel.c: In function ‘ip6_tnl_err’: net/ipv6/ip6_tunnel.c:520:32: warning: statement will never be executed [-Wswitch-unreachable] 520 | struct ipv6_tlv_tnl_enc_lim *tel; | ^~~ [1] https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44916 Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: David S. The respective change for IPv6 tunnels, commit 22f08069e8b4 ("ip6gre: add x-netns support") did not drop NETIF_F_NETNS_LOCAL flag so moving them from one netns to another is still denied in IPv6 case. ip6_gre: do not confirm neighbor when do pmtu update When we do ipv6 gre pmtu update, we will also do neigh confirm currently. This will cause the neigh cache be refreshed and set to REACHABLE before xmit. But if the remote mac address changed, e.g. device is deleted and recreated, we will not able to notice this and still use the old mac address as the neigh cache is REACHABLE. Fix this by disable neigh confirm when do pmtu update v5: No change. v4: No change. v3: Do not remove dst_confirm_neigh, but add a new bool parameter in dst_ops.update_pmtu to control whether we should do neighbor confirm. Hangbin Liu <liuhangbin@gmail.com> |
net: add bool confirm_neigh parameter for dst_ops.update_pmtu The MTU update code is supposed to be invoked in response to real networking events that update the PMTU. In IPv6 PMTU update function __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() we called dst_confirm_neigh() to update neighbor confirmed time. But for tunnel code, it will call pmtu before xmit, like: - tnl_update_pmtu() - skb_dst_update_pmtu() - ip6_rt_update_pmtu() - __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() - dst_confirm_neigh() If the tunnel remote dst mac address changed and we still do the neigh confirm, we will not be able to update neigh cache and ping6 remote will failed. So for this ip_tunnel_xmit() case, _EVEN_ if the MTU is changed, we should not be invoking dst_confirm_neigh() as we have no evidence of successful two-way communication at this point. On the other hand it is also important to keep the neigh reachability fresh for TCP flows, so we cannot remove this dst_confirm_neigh() call. To fix the issue, we have to add a new bool parameter for dst_ops.update_pmtu to choose whether we should do neigh update or not. I will add the parameter in this patch and set all the callers to true to comply with the previous way, and fix the tunnel code one by one on later patches. v5: No change. v4: No change. v3: Do not remove dst_confirm_neigh, but add a new bool parameter in dst_ops.update_pmtu to control whether we should do neighbor confirm. Also split the big patch to small ones for each area. v2: Remove dst_confirm_neigh in __ip6_rt_update_pmtu. ip: validate header length on virtual device xmit KMSAN detected read beyond end of buffer in vti and sit devices when passing truncated packets with PF_PACKET. The issue affects additional ip tunnel devices. Extend commit 76c0ddd8c3a6 ("ip6_tunnel: be careful when accessing the inner header") and commit ccfec9e5cb2d ("ip_tunnel: be careful when accessing the inner header"). Move the check to a separate helper and call at the start of each ndo_start_xmit function in net/ipv4 and net/ipv6. Minor changes: - convert dev_kfree_skb to kfree_skb on error path, as dev_kfree_skb calls consume_skb which is not for error paths. - use pskb_network_may_pull even though that is pedantic here, as the same as pskb_may_pull for devices without llheaders. - do not cache ipv6 hdrs if used only once (unsafe across pskb_may_pull, was more relevant to earlier patch) Reported-by: syzbot <syzkaller@googlegroups.com> Signed-off-by: Willem de Bruijn <willemb@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. net: Convert protocol error handlers from void to int We'll need this to handle ICMP errors for tunnels without a sending socket (i.e. FoU and GUE). There, we might have to look up different types of IP tunnels, registered as network protocols, before we get a match, so we want this for the error handlers of IPPROTO_IPIP and IPPROTO_IPV6 in both inet_protos and inet6_protos. These error codes will be used in the next patch. For consistency, return sensible error codes in protocol error handlers whenever handlers can't handle errors because, even if valid, they don't match a protocol or any of its states. net: ipv6_gre: Fix GRO to work on IPv6 over GRE tap IPv6 GRO over GRE tap is not working while GRO is not set over the native interface. gro_list_prepare function updates the same_flow variable of existing sessions to 1 if their mac headers match the one of the incoming packet. same_flow is used to filter out non-matching sessions and keep potential ones for aggregation. The number of bytes to compare should be the number of bytes in the mac headers. In gro_list_prepare this number is set to be skb->dev->hard_header_len. For GRE interfaces this hard_header_len should be as it is set in the initialization process (when GRE is created), it should not be overridden. But currently it is being overridden by the value that is actually supposed to represent the needed_headroom. Therefore, the number of bytes compared in order to decide whether the the mac headers are the same is greater than the length of the headers. As it's documented in netdevice.h, hard_header_len is the maximum hardware header length, and needed_headroom is the extra headroom the hardware may need. hard_header_len is basically all the bytes received by the physical till layer 3 header of the packet received by the interface. For example, if the interface is a GRE tap then the needed_headroom should be the total length of the following headers: IP header of the physical, GRE header, mac header of GRE. It is often used to calculate the MTU of the created interface. This patch removes the override of the hard_header_len, and assigns the calculated value to needed_headroom. This way, the comparison in gro_list_prepare is really of the mac headers, and if the packets have the same mac headers the same_flow will be set to 1. Performance testing: 45% higher bandwidth. Measuring bandwidth of single-stream IPv4 TCP traffic over IPv6 GRE tap while GRO is not set on the native. net: ip6_gre: fix tunnel metadata device sharing. Currently ip6gre and ip6erspan share single metadata mode device, using 'collect_md_tun'. Thus, when doing: ip link add dev ip6gre11 type ip6gretap external ip link add dev ip6erspan12 type ip6erspan external RTNETLINK answers: File exists simply fails due to the 2nd tries to create the same collect_md_tun. The patch fixes it by adding a separate collect md tunnel device for the ip6erspan, 'collect_md_tun_erspan'. As a result, a couple of places need to refactor/split up in order to distinguish ip6gre and ip6erspan. First, move the collect_md check at ip6gre_tunnel_{unlink,link} and create separate function {ip6gre,ip6ersapn}_tunnel_{link_md,unlink_md}. net: ip6_gre: Fix ip6erspan hlen calculation Even though ip6erspan_tap_init() sets up hlen and tun_hlen according to what ERSPAN needs, it goes ahead to call ip6gre_tnl_link_config() which overwrites these settings with GRE-specific ones. Similarly for changelink callbacks, which are handled by ip6gre_changelink() calls ip6gre_tnl_change() calls ip6gre_tnl_link_config() as well. The difference ends up being 12 vs. 20 bytes, and this is generally not a problem, because a 12-byte request likely ends up allocating more and the extra 8 bytes are thus available. However correct it is not. So replace the newlink and changelink callbacks with an ERSPAN-specific ones, reusing the newly-introduced _common() functions. net: ip6_gre: Request headroom in __gre6_xmit() __gre6_xmit() pushes GRE headers before handing over to ip6_tnl_xmit() for generic IP-in-IP processing. However it doesn't make sure that there is enough headroom to push the header to. That can lead to the panic cited below. (Reproducer below that). Fix by requesting either needed_headroom if already primed, or just the bare minimum needed for the header otherwise. [ 158.576725] kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:104! erspan: fix invalid erspan version. ERSPAN only support version 1 and 2. When packets send to an erspan device which does not have proper version number set, drop the packet. In real case, we observe multicast packets sent to the erspan pernet device, erspan0, which does not have erspan version configured. erspan: auto detect truncated ipv6 packets. Currently the truncated bit is set only when 1) the mirrored packet is larger than mtu and 2) the ipv4 packet tot_len is larger than the actual skb->len. This patch adds another case for detecting whether ipv6 packet is truncated or not, by checking the ipv6 header payload_len and the skb->len. erspan: auto detect truncated packets. Currently the truncated bit is set only when the mirrored packet is larger than mtu. For certain cases, the packet might already been truncated before sending to the erspan tunnel. In this case, the patch detect whether the IP header's total length is larger than the actual skb->len. If true, this indicated that the mirrored packet is truncated and set the erspan truncate bit. I tested the patch using bpf_skb_change_tail helper function to shrink the packet size and send to erspan tunnel. net: do not create fallback tunnels for non-default namespaces fallback tunnels (like tunl0, gre0, gretap0, erspan0, sit0, ip6tnl0, ip6gre0) are automatically created when the corresponding module is loaded. These tunnels are also automatically created when a new network namespace is created, at a great cost. In many cases, netns are used for isolation purposes, and these extra network devices are a waste of resources. We are using thousands of netns per host, and hit the netns creation/delete bottleneck a lot. (Many thanks to Kirill for recent work on this) Add a new sysctl so that we can opt-out from this automatic creation. Note that these tunnels are still created for the initial namespace, to be the least intrusive for typical setups. gre: add sequence number for collect md mode. Currently GRE sequence number can only be used in native tunnel mode. This patch adds sequence number support for gre collect metadata mode. RFC2890 defines GRE sequence number to be specific to the traffic flow identified by the key. However, this patch does not implement per-key seqno. ip6_gre: init dev->mtu and dev->hard_header_len correctly Commit b05229f44228 ("gre6: Cleanup GREv6 transmit path, call common GRE functions") moved dev->mtu initialization from ip6gre_tunnel_setup() to ip6gre_tunnel_init(), as a result, the previously set values, before ndo_init(), are reset in the following cases: * rtnl_create_link() can update dev->mtu from IFLA_MTU parameter. * ip6gre_tnl_link_config() is invoked before ndo_init() in netlink and ioctl setup, so ndo_init() can reset MTU adjustments with the lower device MTU as well, dev->mtu and dev->hard_header_len. Not applicable for ip6gretap because it has one more call to ip6gre_tnl_link_config(tunnel, 1) in ip6gre_tap_init(). Fix the first case by updating dev->mtu with 'tb[IFLA_MTU]' parameter if a user sets it manually on a device creation, and fix the second one by moving ip6gre_tnl_link_config() call after register_netdevice(). ip6_gre: fix device features for ioctl setup When ip6gre is created using ioctl, its features, such as scatter-gather, GSO and tx-checksumming will be turned off: # ip -f inet6 tunnel add gre6 mode ip6gre remote fd00::1 # ethtool -k gre6 (truncated output) tx-checksumming: off scatter-gather: off tcp-segmentation-offload: off generic-segmentation-offload: off [requested on] But when netlink is used, they will be enabled: # ip link add gre6 type ip6gre remote fd00::1 # ethtool -k gre6 (truncated output) tx-checksumming: on scatter-gather: on tcp-segmentation-offload: on generic-segmentation-offload: on This results in a loss of performance when gre6 is created via ioctl. The issue was found with LTP/gre tests. Fix it by moving the setup of device features to a separate function and invoke it with ndo_init callback because both netlink and ioctl will eventually call it via register_netdevice(): register_netdevice() - ndo_init() callback -> ip6gre_tunnel_init() or ip6gre_tap_init() - ip6gre_tunnel_init_common() - ip6gre_tnl_init_features() The moved code also contains two minor style fixes: * removed needless tab from GRE6_FEATURES on NETIF_F_HIGHDMA line. * fixed the issue reported by checkpatch: "Unnecessary parentheses around 'nt->encap.type == TUNNEL_ENCAP_NONE'" Fixes: ac4eb009e477 ("ip6gre: Add support for basic offloads offloads excluding GSO") Signed-off-by: Alexey Kodanev <alexey.kodanev@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: David S. ip6_gre: process toobig in a better way Now ip6gre processes toobig icmp packet by setting gre dev's mtu in ip6gre_err, which would cause few things not good: - It couldn't set mtu with dev_set_mtu due to it's not in user context, which causes route cache and idev->cnf.mtu6 not to be updated. - It has to update sk dst pmtu in tx path according to gredev->mtu for ip6gre, while it updates pmtu again according to lower dst pmtu in ip6_tnl_xmit. - To change dev->mtu by toobig icmp packet is not a good idea, it should only work on pmtu. This patch is to process toobig by updating the lower dst's pmtu, as later sk dst pmtu will be updated in ip6_tnl_xmit, the same way as in ip4gre. Note that gre dev's mtu will not be updated any more, it doesn't make any sense to change dev's mtu after receiving a toobig packet. ip6_gre: update dst pmtu if dev mtu has been updated by toobig in __gre6_xmit When receiving a Toobig icmpv6 packet, ip6gre_err would just set tunnel dev's mtu, that's not enough. For skb_dst(skb)'s pmtu may still be using the old value, it has no chance to be updated with tunnel dev's mtu. Jianlin found this issue by reducing route's mtu while running netperf, the performance went to 0. ip6ip6 and ip4ip6 tunnel can work well with this, as they lookup the upper dst and update_pmtu it's pmtu or icmpv6_send a Toobig to upper socket after setting tunnel dev's mtu. We couldn't do that for ip6_gre, as gre's inner packet could be any protocol, it's difficult to handle them (like lookup upper dst) in a good way. So this patch is to fix it by updating skb_dst(skb)'s pmtu when dev->mtu < skb_dst(skb)'s pmtu in tx path. It's safe to do this update there, as usually dev->mtu <= skb_dst(skb)'s pmtu and no performance regression can be caused by this. ip6_gre: update mtu properly in ip6gre_err Now when probessing ICMPV6_PKT_TOOBIG, ip6gre_err only subtracts the offset of gre header from mtu info. net: Fix inconsistent teardown and release of private netdev state. Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources can occur in one of two different places. Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor(). The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it is safe to perform the freeing. netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast address lists are flushed. netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the netdev references all go away. Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor() almost universally does also a free_netdev(). This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice(). Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice() fails. If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor(). This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same. However, this means that the resources that would normally be released by netdev->destructor() will not be. Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice() fails. Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks. Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev(). netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for free_netdev(). netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice(). Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit() and netdev->priv_destructor(). And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

ip6_tunnel, ip6_gre: fix setting of DSCP on encapsulated packets This fix addresses two problems in the way the DSCP field is formulated on the encapsulating header of IPv6 tunnels. Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195661 1) The IPv6 tunneling code was manipulating the DSCP field of the encapsulating packet using the 32b flowlabel. Since the flowlabel is only the lower 20b it was incorrect to assume that the upper 12b containing the DSCP and ECN fields would remain intact when formulating the encapsulating header. This fix handles the 'inherit' and 'fixed-value' DSCP cases explicitly using the extant dsfield u8 variable. 2) The use of INET_ECN_encapsulate(0, dsfield) in ip6_tnl_xmit was incorrect and resulted in the DSCP value always being set to 0. Commit 90427ef5d2a4 ("ipv6: fix flow labels when the traffic class is non-0") caused the regression by masking out the flowlabel which exposed the incorrect handling of the DSCP portion of the flowlabel in ip6_tunnel and ip6_gre. netns: make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned int Make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned. There are 2 reasons to do so: 1) This field is really an index into an zero based array and thus is unsigned entity. Using negative value is out-of-bound access by definition. 2) On x86_64 unsigned 32-bit data which are mixed with pointers via array indexing or offsets added or subtracted to pointers are preffered to signed 32-bit data. "int" being used as an array index needs to be sign-extended to 64-bit before being used. void f(long *p, int i) { g(p[i]); } roughly translates to movsx rsi, esi mov rdi, [rsi+...] call g MOVSX is 3 byte instruction which isn't necessary if the variable is unsigned because x86_64 is zero extending by default. Now, there is net_generic() function which, you guessed it right, uses "int" as an array index: static inline void *net_generic(const struct net *net, int id) { ... ptr = ng->ptr[id - 1]; ... } And this function is used a lot, so those sign extensions add up. Patch snipes ~1730 bytes on allyesconfig kernel (without all junk messing with code generation): add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 70/598 up/down: 396/-2126 (-1730) Unfortunately some functions actually grow bigger. This is a semmingly random artefact of code generation with register allocator being used differently. gcc decides that some variable needs to live in new r8+ registers and every access now requires REX prefix. Or it is shifted into r12, so [r12+0] addressing mode has to be used which is longer than [r8] However, overall balance is in negative direction: add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 70/598 up/down: 396/-2126 (-1730) function old new delta nfsd4_lock 3886 3959 +73 tipc_link_build_proto_msg 1096 1140 +44 mac80211_hwsim_new_radio 2776 2808 +32 tipc_mon_rcv 1032 1058 +26 svcauth_gss_legacy_init 1413 1429 +16 tipc_bcbase_select_primary 379 392 +13 nfsd4_exchange_id 1247 1260 +13 nfsd4_setclientid_confirm 782 793 +11 ... put_client_renew_locked 494 480 -14 ip_set_sockfn_get 730 716 -14 geneve_sock_add 829 813 -16 nfsd4_sequence_done 721 703 -18 nlmclnt_lookup_host 708 686 -22 nfsd4_lockt 1085 1063 -22 nfs_get_client 1077 1050 -27 tcf_bpf_init 1106 1076 -30 nfsd4_encode_fattr 5997 5930 -67 Total: Before=154856051, After=154854321, chg -0.00% Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. net: inet: Support UID-based routing in IP protocols. - Use the UID in routing lookups made by protocol connect() and sendmsg() functions. - Make sure that routing lookups triggered by incoming packets (e.g., Path MTU discovery) take the UID of the socket into account. - For packets not associated with a userspace socket, (e.g., ping replies) use UID 0 inside the user namespace corresponding to the network namespace the socket belongs to. This allows all namespaces to apply routing and iptables rules to kernel-originated traffic in that namespaces by matching UID 0. This is better than using the UID of the kernel socket that is sending the traffic, because the UID of kernel sockets created at namespace creation time (e.g., the per-processor ICMP and TCP sockets) is the UID of the user that created the socket, which might not be mapped in the namespace. gre: fix error handler 1) gre_parse_header() can be called from gre_err() At this point transport header points to ICMP header, not the inner header. 2) We can not really change transport header as ipgre_err() will later assume transport header still points to ICMP header (using icmp_hdr()) 3) pskb_may_pull() logic in gre_parse_header() really works if we are interested at zone pointed by skb->data 4) As Jiri explained in commit b7f8fe251e46 ("gre: do not pull header in ICMP error processing") we should not pull headers in error handler. gre: change gre_parse_header to return the header length It's easier for gre_parse_header to return the header length instead of filing it into a parameter. That way, the callers that don't care about the header length can just check whether the returned value is lower than zero. In gre_err, the tunnel header must not be pulled. See commit b7f8fe251e46 ("gre: do not pull header in ICMP error processing") for details. This patch reduces the conflict between the mentioned commit and commit 95f5c64c3c13 ("gre: Move utility functions to common headers"). tunnel: Clear IPCB(skb)->opt before dst_link_failure called IPCB may contain data from previous layers (in the observed case the qdisc layer). In the observed scenario, the data was misinterpreted as ip header options, which later caused the ihl to be set to an invalid value (<5). This resulted in an infinite loop in the mips implementation of ip_fast_csum. This patch clears IPCB(skb)->opt before dst_link_failure can be called for various types of tunnels. This change only applies to encapsulated ipv4 packets. The code introduced in 11c21a30 which clears all of IPCB has been removed to be consistent with these changes, and instead the opt field is cleared unconditionally in ip_tunnel_xmit. The change in ip_tunnel_xmit applies to SIT, GRE, and IPIP tunnels. The relevant vti, l2tp, and pptp functions already contain similar code for clearing the IPCB. ip6_gre: Reduce log level in ip6gre_err() to debug Currently error log messages in ip6gre_err are printed at 'warn' level. This is different to most other tunnel types which don't print any messages. Also it can be annoying to have one end of the tunnel go down and have the logs fill with pointless messages such as "Path to destination invalid or inactive!". ipv6: Fix dst_entry refcnt bugs in ip6_tunnel Problems in the current dst_entry cache in the ip6_tunnel: 1. ip6_tnl_dst_set is racy. There is no lock to protect it: - One major problem is that the dst refcnt gets messed up. F.e. the same dst_cache can be released multiple times and then triggering the infamous dst refcnt < 0 warning message. - Another issue is the inconsistency between dst_cache and dst_cookie. It can be reproduced by adding and removing the ip6gre tunnel while running a super_netperf TCP_CRR test. 2. ip6_tnl_dst_get does not take the dst refcnt before returning the dst. This patch: 1. Create a percpu dst_entry cache in ip6_tnl 2. Use a spinlock to protect the dst_cache operations 3. ip6_tnl_dst_get always takes the dst refcnt before returning Signed-off-by: Martin KaFai Lau <kafai@fb.com> Signed-off-by: David S. net: better IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE support Testing xmit_more support with netperf and connected UDP sockets, I found strange dst refcount false sharing. Current handling of IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE is not optimal. Dropping dst in validate_xmit_skb() is certainly too late in case packet was queued by cpu X but dequeued by cpu Y The logical point to take care of drop/force is in __dev_queue_xmit() before even taking qdisc lock. As Julian Anastasov pointed out, need for skb_dst() might come from some packet schedulers or classifiers. This patch adds new helper to cleanly express needs of various drivers or qdiscs/classifiers. Drivers that need skb_dst() in their ndo_start_xmit() should call following helper in their setup instead of the prior : dev->priv_flags &= ~IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE; -> netif_keep_dst(dev); Instead of using a single bit, we use two bits, one being eventually rebuilt in bonding/team drivers. The other one, is permanent and blocks IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE being rebuilt in bonding/team. Eventually, we could add something smarter later. ipv6: Implement automatic flow label generation on transmit Automatically generate flow labels for IPv6 packets on transmit. The flow label is computed based on skb_get_hash. The flow label will only automatically be set when it is zero otherwise (i.e. flow label manager hasn't set one). This supports the transmit side functionality of RFC 6438. Added an IPv6 sysctl auto_flowlabels to enable/disable this behavior system wide, and added IPV6_AUTOFLOWLABEL socket option to enable this functionality per socket. By default, auto flowlabels are disabled to avoid possible conflicts with flow label manager, however if this feature proves useful we may want to enable it by default. It should also be noted that FreeBSD has already implemented automatic flow labels (including the sysctl and socket option). In FreeBSD, automatic flow labels default to enabled. Performance impact: Running super_netperf with 200 flows for TCP_RR and UDP_RR for IPv6. Note that in UDP case, __skb_get_hash will be called for every packet with explains slight regression. In the TCP case the hash is saved in the socket so there is no regression. Automatic flow labels disabled: TCP_RR: 86.53% CPU utilization 127/195/322 90/95/99% latencies 1.40498e+06 tps UDP_RR: 90.70% CPU utilization 118/168/243 90/95/99% latencies 1.50309e+06 tps Automatic flow labels enabled: TCP_RR: 85.90% CPU utilization 128/199/337 90/95/99% latencies 1.40051e+06 UDP_RR 92.61% CPU utilization 115/164/236 90/95/99% latencies 1.4687e+06 Signed-off-by: Tom Herbert <therbert@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. ip6gre: add x-netns support This patch allows to switch the netns when packet is encapsulated or decapsulated. In other word, the encapsulated packet is received in a netns, where the lookup is done to find the tunnel. Once the tunnel is found, the packet is decapsulated and injecting into the corresponding interface which stands to another netns. When one of the two netns is removed, the tunnel is destroyed. ip6_gre: don't allow to remove the fb_tunnel_dev It's possible to remove the FB tunnel with the command 'ip link del ip6gre0' but this is unsafe, the module always supposes that this device exists. For example, ip6gre_tunnel_lookup() may use it unconditionally. Let's add a rtnl handler for dellink, which will never remove the FB tunnel (we let ip6gre_destroy_tunnels() do the job). net: Explicitly initialize u64_stats_sync structures for lockdep In order to enable lockdep on seqcount/seqlock structures, we must explicitly initialize any locks. The u64_stats_sync structure, uses a seqcount, and thus we need to introduce a u64_stats_init() function and use it to initialize the structure. This unfortunately adds a lot of fairly trivial initialization code to a number of drivers. But the benefit of ensuring correctness makes this worth while. Because these changes are required for lockdep to be enabled, and the changes are quite trivial, I've not yet split this patch out into 30-some separate patches, as I figured it would be better to get the various maintainers thoughts on how to best merge this change along with the seqcount lockdep enablement. ipv6: Initialize ip6_tnl.hlen in gre tunnel even if no route is found The ip6_tnl.hlen (gre and ipv6 headers length) is independent from the outgoing interface, so it would be better to initialize it even when no route is found, otherwise its value will be zero. ipv6: Fix the upper MTU limit in GRE tunnel Unlike ipv4, the struct member hlen holds the length of the GRE and ipv6 headers. This length is also counted in dev->hard_header_len. Perhaps, it's more clean to modify the hlen to count only the GRE header without ipv6 header as the variable name suggest, but the simple way to fix this without regression risk is simply modify the calculation of the limit in ip6gre_tunnel_change_mtu function. Common tunneling code is moved to ip_tunnel module. ip_tunnel module is written as generic library which can be used by different tunneling implementations. ip_tunnel module contains following components: - packet xmit and rcv generic code. xmit flow looks like (gre_xmit/ipip_xmit)->ip_tunnel_xmit->ip_local_out. - hash table of all devices. - lookup for tunnel devices. - control plane operations like device create, destroy, ioctl, netlink operations code. - registration for tunneling modules, like gre, ipip etc. - define single pcpu_tstats dev->tstats. - struct tnl_ptk_info added to pass parsed tunnel packet parameters. ipip.h header is renamed to ip_tunnel.h Signed-off-by: Pravin B Shelar <pshelar@nicira.com> Signed-off-by: David S. tunnel: drop packet if ECN present with not-ECT Linux tunnels were written before RFC6040 and therefore never implemented the corner case of ECN getting set in the outer header and the inner header not being ready for it. Section 4.2. Default Tunnel Egress Behaviour. o If the inner ECN field is Not-ECT, the decapsulator MUST NOT propagate any other ECN codepoint onwards. This is because the inner Not-ECT marking is set by transports that rely on dropped packets as an indication of congestion and would not understand or respond to any other ECN codepoint [RFC4774]. Specifically: * If the inner ECN field is Not-ECT and the outer ECN field is CE, the decapsulator MUST drop the packet. * If the inner ECN field is Not-ECT and the outer ECN field is Not-ECT, ECT(0), or ECT(1), the decapsulator MUST forward the outgoing packet with the ECN field cleared to Not-ECT. This patch moves the ECN decap logic out of the individual tunnels into a common place. It also adds logging to allow detecting broken systems that set ECN bits incorrectly when tunneling (or an intermediate router might be changing the header). Overloads rx_frame_error to keep track of ECN related error. Thanks to Chris Wright who caught this while reviewing the new VXLAN tunnel. This code was tested by injecting faulty logic in other end GRE to send incorrectly encapsulated packets. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com> Signed-off-by: David S.
