ipv4: raw: Fix sending packets from raw sockets via IPsec tunnels Since the referenced commit, the xfrm_inner_extract_output() function uses the protocol field to determine the address family. So not setting it for IPv4 raw sockets meant that such packets couldn't be tunneled via IPsec anymore. IPv6 raw sockets are not affected as they already set the protocol since 9c9c9ad5fae7 ("ipv6: set skb->protocol on tcp, raw and ip6_append_data genereated skbs"). Revert "net: Re-use and set mono_delivery_time bit for userspace tstamp packets" This reverts commit 885c36e59f46375c138de18ff1692f18eff67b7f. The patch currently broke the bpf selftest test_tc_dtime because uapi field __sk_buff->tstamp_type depends on skb->mono_delivery_time which does not necessarily mean mono with the original fix as the bit was re-used for userspace timestamp as well to avoid tstamp reset in the forwarding path. To solve this we need to keep mono_delivery_time as is and introduce another bit called user_delivery_time and fall back to the initial proposal of setting the user_delivery_time bit based on sk_clockid set from userspace. net: Re-use and set mono_delivery_time bit for userspace tstamp packets Bridge driver today has no support to forward the userspace timestamp packets and ends up resetting the timestamp. ETF qdisc checks the packet coming from userspace and encounters to be 0 thereby dropping time sensitive packets. These changes will allow userspace timestamps packets to be forwarded from the bridge to NIC drivers. Setting the same bit (mono_delivery_time) to avoid dropping of userspace tstamp packets in the forwarding path. Existing functionality of mono_delivery_time remains unaltered here, instead just extended with userspace tstamp support for bridge forwarding path. net: ioctl: Use kernel memory on protocol ioctl callbacks Most of the ioctls to net protocols operates directly on userspace argument (arg). Usually doing get_user()/put_user() directly in the ioctl callback. This is not flexible, because it is hard to reuse these functions without passing userspace buffers. Change the "struct proto" ioctls to avoid touching userspace memory and operate on kernel buffers, i.e., all protocol's ioctl callbacks is adapted to operate on a kernel memory other than on userspace (so, no more {put,get}_user() and friends being called in the ioctl callback). This changes the "struct proto" ioctl format in the following way: int (*ioctl)(struct sock *sk, int cmd, - unsigned long arg); + int *karg); (Important to say that this patch does not touch the "struct proto_ops" protocols) So, the "karg" argument, which is passed to the ioctl callback, is a pointer allocated to kernel space memory (inside a function wrapper). This buffer (karg) may contain input argument (copied from userspace in a prep function) and it might return a value/buffer, which is copied back to userspace if necessary. There is not one-size-fits-all format (that is I am using 'may' above), but basically, there are three type of ioctls: 1) Do not read from userspace, returns a result to userspace 2) Read an input parameter from userspace, and does not return anything to userspace 3) Read an input from userspace, and return a buffer to userspace. The default case (1) (where no input parameter is given, and an "int" is returned to userspace) encompasses more than 90% of the cases, but there are two other exceptions. Here is a list of exceptions: * Protocol RAW: * cmd = SIOCGETVIFCNT: * input and output = struct sioc_vif_req * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req * Explanation: for the SIOCGETVIFCNT case, userspace passes the input argument, which is struct sioc_vif_req. Then the callback populates the struct, which is copied back to userspace. * Protocol RAW6: * cmd = SIOCGETMIFCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_mif_req6 * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req6 * Protocol PHONET: * cmd == SIOCPNADDRESOURCE | SIOCPNDELRESOURCE * input int (4 bytes) * Nothing is copied back to userspace. For the exception cases, functions sock_sk_ioctl_inout() will copy the userspace input, and copy it back to kernel space. The wrapper that prepare the buffer and put the buffer back to user is sk_ioctl(), so, instead of calling sk->sk_prot->ioctl(), the callee now calls sk_ioctl(), which will handle all cases. raw: Stop using RTO_ONLINK. Use ip_sendmsg_scope() to properly initialise the scope in flowi4_init_output(), instead of overriding tos with the RTO_ONLINK flag. The objective is to eventually remove RTO_ONLINK, which will allow converting .flowi4_tos to dscp_t. The MSG_DONTROUTE and SOCK_LOCALROUTE cases were already handled by raw_sendmsg() (SOCK_LOCALROUTE was handled by the RT_CONN_FLAGS*() macros called by get_rtconn_flags()). However, opt.is_strictroute wasn't taken into account. Therefore, a side effect of this patch is to now honour opt.is_strictroute, and thus align raw_sendmsg() with ping_v4_sendmsg() and udp_sendmsg(). Since raw_sendmsg() was the only user of get_rtconn_flags(), we can now remove this function. ipv{4,6}/raw: fix output xfrm lookup wrt protocol With a raw socket bound to IPPROTO_RAW (ie with hdrincl enabled), the protocol field of the flow structure, build by raw_sendmsg() / rawv6_sendmsg()), is set to IPPROTO_RAW. This breaks the ipsec policy lookup when some policies are defined with a protocol in the selector. For ipv6, the sin6_port field from 'struct sockaddr_in6' could be used to specify the protocol. Just accept all values for IPPROTO_RAW socket. For ipv4, the sin_port field of 'struct sockaddr_in' could not be used without breaking backward compatibility (the value of this field was never checked). Let's add a new kind of control message, so that the userland could specify which protocol is used. However, we should use spinlock for slow paths to avoid the NULL deref. Also, SOCK_RAW does not use SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU, and the slab object is not reused during iteration in the grace period. In fact, the lockless readers do not check the nulls marker with get_nulls_value(). So, SOCK_RAW should use hlist instead of hlist_nulls. Instead of adding an unnecessary barrier by sk_nulls_for_each_rcu(), let's convert hlist_nulls to hlist and use sk_for_each_rcu() for fast paths and sk_for_each() and spinlock for /proc/net/raw. raw: use net_hash_mix() in hash function Some applications seem to rely on RAW sockets. If they use private netns, we can avoid piling all RAW sockets bound to a given protocol into a single bucket. Also place (struct raw_hashinfo).lock into its own cache line to limit false sharing. Alternative would be to have per-netns hashtables, but this seems too expensive for most netns where RAW sockets are not used. net: remove noblock parameter from recvmsg() entities The internal recvmsg() functions have two parameters 'flags' and 'noblock' that were merged inside skb_recv_datagram(). As a follow up patch to commit f4b41f062c42 ("net: remove noblock parameter from skb_recv_datagram()") this patch removes the separate 'noblock' parameter for recvmsg(). Analogue to the referenced patch for skb_recv_datagram() the 'flags' and 'noblock' parameters are unnecessarily split up with e.g. err = sk->sk_prot->recvmsg(sk, msg, size, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, &addr_len); or in err = INDIRECT_CALL_2(sk->sk_prot->recvmsg, tcp_recvmsg, udp_recvmsg, sk, msg, size, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, &addr_len); instead of simply using only flags all the time and check for MSG_DONTWAIT where needed (to preserve for the formerly separated no(n)block condition). net: remove noblock parameter from skb_recv_datagram() skb_recv_datagram() has two parameters 'flags' and 'noblock' that are merged inside skb_recv_datagram() by 'flags | (noblock ? MSG_DONTWAIT : 0)' As 'flags' may contain MSG_DONTWAIT as value most callers split the 'flags' into 'flags' and 'noblock' with finally obsolete bit operations like this: skb_recv_datagram(sk, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, &rc); And this is not even done consistently with the 'flags' parameter. This patch removes the obsolete and costly splitting into two parameters and only performs bit operations when really needed on the caller side. As mentioned in https://lkml.org/lkml/2021/9/13/1819 5 years old commit 919483096bfe ("ipv4: fix memory leaks in ip_cmsg_send() callers") was a correct fix. ip_cmsg_send() can loop over multiple cmsghdr() If IP_RETOPTS has been successful, but following cmsghdr generates an error, we do not free ipc.ok If IP_RETOPTS is not successful, we have freed the allocated temporary space, not the one currently in ipc.opt. Sure, code could be refactored, but let's not bring back old bugs. netfilter: drop bridge nf reset from nf_reset commit 174e23810cd31 ("sk_buff: drop all skb extensions on free and skb scrubbing") made napi recycle always drop skb extensions. The additional skb_ext_del() that is performed via nf_reset on napi skb recycle is not needed anymore. Most nf_reset() calls in the stack are there so queued skb won't block 'rmmod nf_conntrack' indefinitely. This removes the skb_ext_del from nf_reset, and renames it to a more fitting nf_reset_ct(). In a few selected places, add a call to skb_ext_reset to make sure that no active extensions remain. I am submitting this for "net", because we're still early in the release cycle. The patch applies to net-next too, but I think the rename causes needless divergence between those trees. net: fix raw socket lookup device bind matching with VRFs When there exist a pair of raw sockets one unbound and one bound to a VRF but equal in all other respects, when a packet is received in the VRF context, __raw_v4_lookup() matches on both sockets. This results in the packet being delivered over both sockets, instead of only the raw socket bound to the VRF. The bound device checks in __raw_v4_lookup() are replaced with a call to raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which correctly handles whether the packet should be delivered over the unbound socket in such cases. In __raw_v6_lookup() the match on the device binding of the socket is similarly updated to use raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which matches the handling in __raw_v4_lookup(). Importantly raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() takes the raw_l3mdev_accept sysctl into account. Have this default to enabled for reasons of backwards compatibility. This is so as to specify the output device with cmsg and IP_PKTINFO, but using a socket not bound to the corresponding VRF. This allows e.g. older ping implementations to be run with specifying the device but without executing it in the VRF. If the option is disabled, packets received in a VRF context are only handled by a raw socket bound to the VRF, and correspondingly packets in the default VRF are only handled by a socket not bound to any VRF. ip: remove tx_flags from ipcm_cookie and use same logic for v4 and v6 skb_shinfo(skb)->tx_flags is derived from sk->sk_tsflags, possibly after modification by __sock_cmsg_send, by calling sock_tx_timestamp. The IPv4 and IPv6 paths do this conversion differently. In IPv4, the individual protocols that support tx timestamps call this function and store the result in ipc.tx_flags. In IPv6, sock_tx_timestamp is called in __ip6_append_data. There is no need to store both tx_flags and ts_flags in the cookie as one is derived from the other. Convert when setting up the cork and remove the redundant field. This is similar to IPv6, only have the conversion happen only once per datagram, in ip(6)_setup_cork. Also change __ip6_append_data to match __ip_append_data. Only update tskey if timestamping is enabled with OPT_ID. The SOCK_.. test is redundant: only valid protocols can have non-zero cork->tx_flags. After this change the IPv4 and IPv6 logic is the same. net/ipv4: Allow send to local broadcast from a socket bound to a VRF Message sends to the local broadcast address (255.255.255.255) require uc_index or sk_bound_dev_if to be set to an egress device. However, responses or only received if the socket is bound to the device. This is overly constraining for processes running in an L3 domain. This patch allows a socket bound to the VRF device to send to the local broadcast address by using IP_UNICAST_IF to set the egress interface with packet receipt handled by the VRF binding. Similar to IP_MULTICAST_IF, relax the constraint on setting IP_UNICAST_IF if a socket is bound to an L3 master device. In this case allow uc_index to be set to an enslaved if sk_bound_dev_if is an L3 master device and is the master device for the ifindex. In udp and raw sendmsg, allow uc_index to override the oif if uc_index master device is oif (ie., the oif is an L3 master and the index is an L3 slave). net: ipv4: emulate READ_ONCE() on ->hdrincl bit-field in raw_sendmsg() Commit 8f659a03a0ba ("net: ipv4: fix for a race condition in raw_sendmsg") fixed the issue of possibly inconsistent ->hdrincl handling due to concurrent updates by reading this bit-field member into a local variable and using the thus stabilized value in subsequent tests. However, aforementioned commit also adds the (correct) comment that /* hdrincl should be READ_ONCE(inet->hdrincl) * but READ_ONCE() doesn't work with bit fields */ because as it stands, the compiler is free to shortcut or even eliminate the local variable at its will. Note that I have not seen anything like this happening in reality and thus, the concern is a theoretical one. However, in order to be on the safe side, emulate a READ_ONCE() on the bit-field by doing it on the local 'hdrincl' variable itself: int hdrincl = inet->hdrincl; hdrincl = READ_ONCE(hdrincl); This breaks the chain in the sense that the compiler is not allowed to replace subsequent reads from hdrincl with reloads from inet->hdrincl. net: inet: Support UID-based routing in IP protocols. - Use the UID in routing lookups made by protocol connect() and sendmsg() functions. - Make sure that routing lookups triggered by incoming packets (e.g., Path MTU discovery) take the UID of the socket into account. - For packets not associated with a userspace socket, (e.g., ping replies) use UID 0 inside the user namespace corresponding to the network namespace the socket belongs to. This allows all namespaces to apply routing and iptables rules to kernel-originated traffic in that namespaces by matching UID 0. This is better than using the UID of the kernel socket that is sending the traffic, because the UID of kernel sockets created at namespace creation time (e.g., the per-processor ICMP and TCP sockets) is the UID of the user that created the socket, which might not be mapped in the namespace. udp: must lock the socket in udp_disconnect() Baozeng Ding reported KASAN traces showing uses after free in udp_lib_get_port() and other related UDP functions. A CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC=y kernel would eventually crash. sock: enable timestamping using control messages Currently, SOL_TIMESTAMPING can only be enabled using setsockopt. This is very costly when users want to sample writes to gather tx timestamps. Add support for enabling SO_TIMESTAMPING via control messages by using tsflags added in `struct sockcm_cookie` (added in the previous patches in this series) to set the tx_flags of the last skb created in a sendmsg. With this patch, the timestamp recording bits in tx_flags of the skbuff is overridden if SO_TIMESTAMPING is passed in a cmsg. Please note that this is only effective for overriding the recording timestamps flags. Users should enable timestamp reporting (e.g., SOF_TIMESTAMPING_SOFTWARE | SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID) using socket options and then should ask for SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_* using control messages per sendmsg to sample timestamps for each write. netfilter: Pass net into okfn This is immediately motivated by the bridge code that chains functions that call into netfilter. Without passing net into the okfns the bridge code would need to guess about the best expression for the network namespace to process packets in. As net is frequently one of the first things computed in continuation functions after netfilter has done it's job passing in the desired network namespace is in many cases a code simplification. To support this change the function dst_output_okfn is introduced to simplify passing dst_output as an okfn. For the moment dst_output_okfn just silently drops the struct net. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. netfilter: Pass struct net into the netfilter hooks Pass a network namespace parameter into the netfilter hooks. At the call site of the netfilter hooks the path a packet is taking through the network stack is well known which allows the network namespace to be easily and reliabily. This allows the replacement of magic code like "dev_net(state->in?:state->out)" that appears at the start of most netfilter hooks with "state->net". In almost all cases the network namespace passed in is derived from the first network device passed in, guaranteeing those paths will not see any changes in practice. The exceptions are: xfrm/xfrm_output.c:xfrm_output_resume() xs_net(skb_dst(skb)->xfrm) ipvs/ip_vs_xmit.c:ip_vs_nat_send_or_cont() ip_vs_conn_net(cp) ipvs/ip_vs_xmit.c:ip_vs_send_or_cont() ip_vs_conn_net(cp) ipv4/raw.c:raw_send_hdrinc() sock_net(sk) ipv6/ip6_output.c:ip6_xmit() sock_net(sk) ipv6/ndisc.c:ndisc_send_skb() dev_net(skb->dev) not dev_net(dst->dev) ipv6/raw.c:raw6_send_hdrinc() sock_net(sk) br_netfilter_hooks.c:br_nf_pre_routing_finish() dev_net(skb->dev) before skb->dev is set to nf_bridge->physindev In all cases these exceptions seem to be a better expression for the network namespace the packet is being processed in then the historic "dev_net(in?in:out)". netfilter: Pass socket pointer down through okfn(). On the output paths in particular, we have to sometimes deal with two socket contexts. First, and usually skb->sk, is the local socket that generated the frame. And second, is potentially the socket used to control a tunneling socket, such as one the encapsulates using UDP. We do not want to disassociate skb->sk when encapsulating in order to fix this, because that would break socket memory accounting. The most extreme case where this can cause huge problems is an AF_PACKET socket transmitting over a vxlan device. We hit code paths doing checks that assume they are dealing with an ipv4 socket, but are actually operating upon the AF_PACKET one. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

ipv4: Avoid reading user iov twice after raw_probe_proto_opt Ever since raw_probe_proto_opt was added it had the problem of causing the user iov to be read twice, once during the probe for the protocol header and once again in ip_append_data. This is a potential security problem since it means that whatever we're probing may be invalid. This patch plugs the hole by firstly advancing the iov so we don't read the same spot again, and secondly saving what we read the first time around for use by ip_append_data. ipv4: Make IP_MULTICAST_ALL and IP_MSFILTER work on raw sockets Currently, although IP_MULTICAST_ALL and IP_MSFILTER ioctl calls succeed on raw sockets, there is no code to implement the functionality on received packets; it is only implemented for UDP sockets. The raw(7) man page states: "In addition, all ip(7) IPPROTO_IP socket options valid for datagram sockets are supported", which implies these ioctls should work on raw sockets. To fix this, add a call to ip_mc_sf_allow on raw sockets. This should not break any existing code, since the current position of not calling ip_mc_sf_filter makes it behave as if neither the IP_MULTICAST_ALL nor the IP_MSFILTER ioctl had been called. Adding the call to ip_mc_sf_allow will therefore maintain the current behaviour so long as IP_MULTICAST_ALL and IP_MSFILTER ioctls are not called. Any code that currently is calling IP_MULTICAST_ALL or IP_MSFILTER ioctls on raw sockets presumably is wanting the filter to be applied, although no filtering will currently be occurring. inetpeer: get rid of ip_id_count Ideally, we would need to generate IP ID using a per destination IP generator. linux kernels used inet_peer cache for this purpose, but this had a huge cost on servers disabling MTU discovery. 1) each inet_peer struct consumes 192 bytes 2) inetpeer cache uses a binary tree of inet_peer structs, with a nominal size of ~66000 elements under load. 3) lookups in this tree are hitting a lot of cache lines, as tree depth is about 20. 4) If server deals with many tcp flows, we have a high probability of not finding the inet_peer, allocating a fresh one, inserting it in the tree with same initial ip_id_count, (cf secure_ip_id()) 5) We garbage collect inet_peer aggressively. IP ID generation do not have to be 'perfect' Goal is trying to avoid duplicates in a short period of time, so that reassembly units have a chance to complete reassembly of fragments belonging to one message before receiving other fragments with a recycled ID. We simply use an array of generators, and a Jenkin hash using the dst IP as a key. ipv6_select_ident() is put back into net/ipv6/ip6_output.c where it belongs (it is only used from this file) secure_ip_id() and secure_ipv6_id() no longer are needed. ipv4: processing ancillary IP_TOS or IP_TTL If IP_TOS or IP_TTL are specified as ancillary data, then sendmsg() sends out packets with the specified TTL or TOS overriding the socket values specified with the traditional setsockopt(). The struct inet_cork stores the values of TOS, TTL and priority that are passed through the struct ipcm_cookie. If there are user-specified TOS (tos != -1) or TTL (ttl != 0) in the struct ipcm_cookie, these values are used to override the per-socket values. In case of TOS also the priority is changed accordingly. hlist: drop the node parameter from iterators I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member) The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter: hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member) Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate. Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required: - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones. - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this was modified to use 'obj->member' instead. - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator properly, so those had to be fixed up manually. net: use a per task frag allocator We currently use a per socket order-0 page cache for tcp_sendmsg() operations. This page is used to build fragments for skbs. Its done to increase probability of coalescing small write() into single segments in skbs still in write queue (not yet sent) But it wastes a lot of memory for applications handling many mostly idle sockets, since each socket holds one page in sk->sk_sndmsg_page Its also quite inefficient to build TSO 64KB packets, because we need about 16 pages per skb on arches where PAGE_SIZE = 4096, so we hit page allocator more than wanted. This patch adds a per task frag allocator and uses bigger pages, if available. An automatic fallback is done in case of memory pressure. (up to 32768 bytes per frag, thats order-3 pages on x86) This increases TCP stream performance by 20% on loopback device, but also benefits on other network devices, since 8x less frags are mapped on transmit and unmapped on tx completion. Alexander Duyck mentioned a probable performance win on systems with IOMMU enabled. Its possible some SG enabled hardware cant cope with bigger fragments, but their ndo_start_xmit() should already handle this, splitting a fragment in sub fragments, since some arches have PAGE_SIZE=65536 Successfully tested on various ethernet devices. ipv4: Handle PMTU in all ICMP error handlers. With ip_rt_frag_needed() removed, we have to explicitly update PMTU information in every ICMP error handler. Create two helper functions to facilitate this. 1) ipv4_sk_update_pmtu() This updates the PMTU when we have a socket context to work with. 2) ipv4_update_pmtu() Raw version, used when no socket context is available. For this interface, we essentially just pass in explicit arguments for the flow identity information we would have extracted from the socket. And you'll notice that ipv4_sk_update_pmtu() is simply implemented in terms of ipv4_update_pmtu() Note that __ip_route_output_key() is used, rather than something like ip_route_output_flow() or ip_route_output_key(). This is because we absolutely do not want to end up with a route that does IPSEC encapsulation and the like. Instead, we only want the route that would get us to the node described by the outermost IP header. Reported-by: Steffen Klassert <steffen.klassert@secunet.com> Signed-off-by: David S. ipv4: Implement IP_UNICAST_IF socket option. The IP_UNICAST_IF feature is needed by the Wine project. This patch implements the feature by setting the outgoing interface in a similar fashion to that of IP_MULTICAST_IF. A separate option is needed to handle this feature since the existing options do not provide all of the characteristics required by IP_UNICAST_IF, a summary is provided below. SO_BINDTODEVICE: * SO_BINDTODEVICE requires administrative privileges, IP_UNICAST_IF does not. From reading some old mailing list articles my understanding is that SO_BINDTODEVICE requires administrative privileges because it can override the administrator's routing settings. * The SO_BINDTODEVICE option restricts both outbound and inbound traffic, IP_UNICAST_IF only impacts outbound traffic. IP_PKTINFO: * Since IP_PKTINFO and IP_UNICAST_IF are independent options, implementing IP_UNICAST_IF with IP_PKTINFO will likely break some applications. * Implementing IP_UNICAST_IF on top of IP_PKTINFO significantly complicates the Wine codebase and reduces the socket performance (doing this requires a lot of extra communication between the "server" and "user" layers). bind(): * bind() does not work on broadcast packets, IP_UNICAST_IF is specifically intended to work with broadcast packets. * Like SO_BINDTODEVICE, bind() restricts both outbound and inbound traffic. This patch replaces all uses of LL_ALLOCATED_SPACE in net/ipv4 with the macro LL_RESERVED_SPACE and direct reference to needed_tailroom. [PATCH net-next] ipv4: IP_PKTINFO doesnt need dst reference When a socket uses IP_PKTINFO notifications, we currently force a dst reference for each received skb. Reader has to access dst to get needed information (rt_iif & rt_spec_dst) and must release dst reference. We also forced a dst reference if skb was put in socket backlog, even without IP_PKTINFO handling. This happens under stress/load. We can instead store the needed information in skb->cb[], so that only softirq handler really access dst, improving cache hit ratios. This removes two atomic operations per packet, and false sharing as well. On a benchmark using a mono threaded receiver (doing only recvmsg() calls), I can reach 720.000 pps instead of 570.000 pps. IP_PKTINFO is typically used by DNS servers, and any multihomed aware UDP application. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

net: convert %p usage to %pK The %pK format specifier is designed to hide exposed kernel pointers, specifically via /proc interfaces. Exposing these pointers provides an easy target for kernel write vulnerabilities, since they reveal the locations of writable structures containing easily triggerable function pointers. The behavior of %pK depends on the kptr_restrict sysctl. If kptr_restrict is set to 0, no deviation from the standard %p behavior occurs. If kptr_restrict is set to 1, the default, if the current user (intended to be a reader via seq_printf(), etc.) does not have CAP_SYSLOG (currently in the LSM tree), kernel pointers using %pK are printed as 0's. If kptr_restrict is set to 2, kernel pointers using %pK are printed as 0's regardless of privileges. Replacing with 0's was chosen over the default "(null)", which cannot be parsed by userland %p, which expects "(nil)". The supporting code for kptr_restrict and %pK are currently in the -mm tree. This patch converts users of %p in net/ to %pK. Cases of printing pointers to the syslog are not covered, since this would eliminate useful information for postmortem debugging and the reading of the syslog is already optionally protected by the dmesg_restrict sysctl. inet: add RCU protection to inet->opt We lack proper synchronization to manipulate inet->opt ip_options Problem is ip_make_skb() calls ip_setup_cork() and ip_setup_cork() possibly makes a copy of ipc->opt (struct ip_options), without any protection against another thread manipulating inet->opt. Another thread can change inet->opt pointer and free old one under us. Use RCU to protect inet->opt (changed to inet->inet_opt). Instead of handling atomic refcounts, just copy ip_options when necessary, to avoid cache line dirtying. I have added an ipv4 inet_compat_ioctl function so that I can have ipv4 specific compat ioctls. I have added a compat_ioctl function into struct proto so I can break out ioctls by which kind of ip socket I am using. I have added a compat_raw_ioctl function because SIOCGETSGCNT only works on raw sockets. I have added a ipmr_compat_ioctl that mirrors the normal ipmr_ioctl. This was necessary because unfortunately the struct layout for the SIOCGETSGCNT has unsigned longs in it so changes between 32bit and 64bit kernels. include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. AF_RAW: Augment raw_send_hdrinc to expand skb to fit iphdr->ihl (v2) Augment raw_send_hdrinc to correct for incorrect ip header length values A series of oopses was reported to me recently. Apparently when using AF_RAW sockets to send data to peers that were reachable via ipsec encapsulation, people could panic or BUG halt their systems. I've tracked the problem down to user space sending an invalid ip header over an AF_RAW socket with IP_HDRINCL set to 1. Basically what happens is that userspace sends down an ip frame that includes only the header (no data), but sets the ip header ihl value to a large number, one that is larger than the total amount of data passed to the sendmsg call. In raw_send_hdrincl, we allocate an skb based on the size of the data in the msghdr that was passed in, but assume the data is all valid. Later during ipsec encapsulation, xfrm4_tranport_output moves the entire frame back in the skbuff to provide headroom for the ipsec headers. During this operation, the skb->transport_header is repointed to a spot computed by skb->network_header + the ip header length (ihl). Since so little data was passed in relative to the value of ihl provided by the raw socket, we point transport header to an unknown location, resulting in various crashes. This fix for this is pretty straightforward, simply validate the value of of iph->ihl when sending over a raw socket. If (iph->ihl*4U) > user data buffer size, drop the frame and return -EINVAL. I just confirmed this fixes the reported crashes. Signed-off-by: Neil Horman <nhorman@tuxdriver.com> Acked-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. inet: rename some inet_sock fields In order to have better cache layouts of struct sock (separate zones for rx/tx paths), we need this preliminary patch. Goal is to transfert fields used at lookup time in the first read-mostly cache line (inside struct sock_common) and move sk_refcnt to a separate cache line (only written by rx path) This patch adds inet_ prefix to daddr, rcv_saddr, dport, num, saddr, sport and id fields. This allows a future patch to define these fields as macros, like sk_refcnt, without name clashes. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. net: sk_drops consolidation sock_queue_rcv_skb() can update sk_drops itself, removing need for callers to take care of it. net: Generalize socket rx gap / receive queue overflow cmsg Create a new socket level option to report number of queue overflows Recently I augmented the AF_PACKET protocol to report the number of frames lost on the socket receive queue between any two enqueued frames. This value was exported via a SOL_PACKET level cmsg. AFter I completed that work it was requested that this feature be generalized so that any datagram oriented socket could make use of this option. As such I've created this patch, It creates a new SOL_SOCKET level option called SO_RXQ_OVFL, which when enabled exports a SOL_SOCKET level cmsg that reports the nubmer of times the sk_receive_queue overflowed between any two given frames. It also augments the AF_PACKET protocol to take advantage of this new feature (as it previously did not touch sk->sk_drops, which this patch uses to record the overflow count). Tested successfully by me. Notes: 1) Unlike my previous patch, this patch simply records the sk_drops value, which is not a number of drops between packets, but rather a total number of drops. Deltas must be computed in user space. 2) While this patch currently works with datagram oriented protocols, it will also be accepted by non-datagram oriented protocols. I'm not sure if thats agreeable to everyone, but my argument in favor of doing so is that, for those protocols which aren't applicable to this option, sk_drops will always be zero, and reporting no drops on a receive queue that isn't used for those non-participating protocols seems reasonable to me. This also saves us having to code in a per-protocol opt in mechanism. 3) This applies cleanly to net-next assuming that commit 977750076d98c7ff6cbda51858bb5a5894a9d9ab (my af packet cmsg patch) is reverted Signed-off-by: Neil Horman <nhorman@tuxdriver.com> Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. ip: Report qdisc packet drops Christoph Lameter pointed out that packet drops at qdisc level where not accounted in SNMP counters. Only if application sets IP_RECVERR, drops are reported to user (-ENOBUFS errors) and SNMP counters updated. IP_RECVERR is used to enable extended reliable error message passing, but these are not needed to update system wide SNMP stats. This patch changes things a bit to allow SNMP counters to be updated, regardless of IP_RECVERR being set or not on the socket. Example after an UDP tx flood # netstat -s ... IP: 1487048 outgoing packets dropped ... Udp: ... SndbufErrors: 1487048 send() syscalls, do however still return an OK status, to not break applications. Note : send() manual page explicitly says for -ENOBUFS error : "The output queue for a network interface was full. This generally indicates that the interface has stopped sending, but may be caused by transient congestion. (Normally, this does not occur in Linux. Packets are just silently dropped when a device queue overflows.) " This is not true for IP_RECVERR enabled sockets : a send() syscall that hit a qdisc drop returns an ENOBUFS error. net: avoid a pair of dst_hold()/dst_release() in ip_append_data() We can reduce pressure on dst entry refcount that slowdown UDP transmit path on SMP machines. This pressure is visible on RTP servers when delivering content to mediagateways, especially big ones, handling thousand of streams. Several cpus send UDP frames to the same destination, hence use the same dst entry. This patch makes ip_append_data() eventually steal the refcount its callers had to take on the dst entry. [RAW]: Introduce raw_hashinfo structure The ipv4/raw.c and ipv6/raw.c contain many common code (most of which is proc interface) which can be consolidated. [IPv4] RAW: Compact the API for the kernel The raw sockets functions are explicitly used from inside the kernel in two places: 1. in ip_local_deliver_finish to intercept skb-s 2. in icmp_error For this purposes many functions and even data structures, that are naturally internal for raw protocol, are exported. [IPV4]: Add ICMPMsgStats MIB (RFC 4293) Background: RFC 4293 deprecates existing individual, named ICMP type counters to be replaced with the ICMPMsgStatsTable. This table includes entries for both IPv4 and IPv6, and requires counting of all ICMP types, whether or not the machine implements the type. These patches "remove" (but not really) the existing counters, and replace them with the ICMPMsgStats tables for v4 and v6. It includes the named counters in the /proc places they were, but gets the values for them from the new tables. It also counts packets generated from raw socket output (e.g., OutEchoes, MLD queries, RA's from radvd, etc). Changes: 1) create icmpmsg_statistics mib 2) create icmpv6msg_statistics mib 3) modify existing counters to use these 4) modify /proc/net/snmp to add "IcmpMsg" with all ICMP types listed by number for easy SNMP parsing 5) modify /proc/net/snmp printing for "Icmp" to get the named data from new counters. [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespace This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. [PATCH] EDAC: atomic scrub operations EDAC requires a way to scrub memory if an ECC error is found and the chipset does not do the work automatically. That means rewriting memory locations atomically with respect to all CPUs _and_ bus masters. That means we can't use atomic_add(foo, 0) as it gets optimised for non-SMP This adds a function to include/asm-foo/atomic.h for the platforms currently supported which implements a scrub of a mapped block. It also adjusts a few other files include order where atomic.h is included before types.h as this now causes an error as atomic_scrub uses u32. [IPV4]: [4/4] signed vs unsigned cleanup in net/ipv4/raw.c This patch changes the type of the third parameter 'length' of the raw_send_hdrinc() function from 'int' to 'size_t'. This makes sense since this function is only ever called from one location, and the value passed as the third parameter in that location is itself of type size_t, so this makes the recieving functions parameter type match. Also, inside raw_send_hdrinc() the 'length' variable is used in comparisons with unsigned values and passed as parameter to functions expecting unsigned values (it's used in a single comparison with a signed value, but that one can never actually be negative so the patch also casts that one to size_t to stop gcc worrying, and it is passed in a single instance to memcpy_fromiovecend() which expects a signed int, but as far as I can see that's not a problem since the value of 'length' shouldn't ever exceed the value of a signed int). Since 'i' is compared in a loop to the unsigned variable msg->msg_iovlen gcc -W generates this warning : net/ipv4/raw.c:340: warning: comparison between signed and unsigned Changing 'i' to unsigned silences this warning and is safe since the array index can never be negative anyway, so unsigned int is the logical type to use for 'i' and also enables a larger msg_iov[] array (but I don't know if that will ever matter). Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
