net: gro: skb_gro_header helper function Introduce a simple helper function to replace a common pattern. When accessing the GRO header, we fetch the pointer from frag0, then test its validity and fetch it from the skb when necessary. This leads to the pattern skb_gro_header_fast -> skb_gro_header_hard -> skb_gro_header_slow recurring many times throughout GRO code. This patch replaces these patterns with a single inlined function call, improving code readability. net: vlan: suppress "failed to kill vid" warnings When a real dev unregisters, vlan_device_event() also unregisters all of its vlan interfaces. For each VID this ends up in __vlan_vid_del(), which attempts to remove the VID from the real dev's VLAN filter. But the unregistering real dev might no longer be able to issue the required IOs, and return an error. Subsequently we raise a noisy warning msg that is not appropriate for this situation: the real dev is being torn down anyway, there shouldn't be any worry about cleanly releasing all of its HW-internal resources. So to avoid scaring innocent users, suppress this warning when the failed deletion happens on an unregistering device. While at it also convert the raw pr_warn() to a more fitting netdev_warn(). These features notify the driver of each added/removed vlan, but toggling of vlan-filter does not notify the driver accordingly for each of the existing vlans. This patch implements a similar solution to NETIF_F_RX_UDP_TUNNEL_PORT behavior (which notifies the driver about UDP ports in the same manner that vids are reported). vlan: Fix out of order vlan headers with reorder header off With reorder header off, received packets are untagged in skb_vlan_untag() called from within __netif_receive_skb_core(), and later the tag will be inserted back in vlan_do_receive(). This caused out of order vlan headers when we create a vlan device on top of another vlan device, because vlan_do_receive() inserts a tag as the outermost vlan tag. E.g. the outer tag is first removed in skb_vlan_untag() and inserted back in vlan_do_receive(), then the inner tag is next removed and inserted back as the outermost tag. This patch fixes the behaviour by inserting the inner tag at the right position. Signed-off-by: Toshiaki Makita <makita.toshiaki@lab.ntt.co.jp> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. net: Always untag vlan-tagged traffic on input. Currently the functionality to untag traffic on input resides as part of the vlan module and is build only when VLAN support is enabled in the kernel. When VLAN is disabled, the function vlan_untag() turns into a stub and doesn't really untag the packets. This seems to create an interesting interaction between VMs supporting checksum offloading and some network drivers. There are some drivers that do not allow the user to change tx-vlan-offload feature of the driver. These drivers also seem to assume that any VLAN-tagged traffic they transmit will have the vlan information in the vlan_tci and not in the vlan header already in the skb. When transmitting skbs that already have tagged data with partial checksum set, the checksum doesn't appear to be updated correctly by the card thus resulting in a failure to establish TCP connections. The following is a packet trace taken on the receiver where a sender is a VM with a VLAN configued. The host VM is running on doest not have VLAN support and the outging interface on the host is tg3: 10:12:43.503055 52:54:00:ae:42:3f > 28:d2:44:7d:c2:de, ethertype 802.1Q (0x8100), length 78: vlan 100, p 0, ethertype IPv4, (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 27243, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 60) 10.0.100.1.58545 > 10.0.100.10.ircu-2: Flags [S], cksum 0xdc39 (incorrect -> 0x48d9), seq 1069378582, win 29200, options [mss 1460,sackOK,TS val 4294837885 ecr 0,nop,wscale 7], length 0 10:12:44.505556 52:54:00:ae:42:3f > 28:d2:44:7d:c2:de, ethertype 802.1Q (0x8100), length 78: vlan 100, p 0, ethertype IPv4, (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 27244, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 60) 10.0.100.1.58545 > 10.0.100.10.ircu-2: Flags [S], cksum 0xdc39 (incorrect -> 0x44ee), seq 1069378582, win 29200, options [mss 1460,sackOK,TS val 4294838888 ecr 0,nop,wscale 7], length 0 This connection finally times out. I've only access to the TG3 hardware in this configuration thus have only tested this with TG3 driver. There are a lot of other drivers that do not permit user changes to vlan acceleration features, and I don't know if they all suffere from a similar issue. The patch attempt to fix this another way. It moves the vlan header stipping code out of the vlan module and always builds it into the kernel network core. This way, even if vlan is not supported on a virtualizatoin host, the virtual machines running on top of such host will still work with VLANs enabled. vlan: mask vlan prio bits In commit 48cc32d38a52d0b68f91a171a8d00531edc6a46e ("vlan: don't deliver frames for unknown vlans to protocols") Florian made sure we set pkt_type to PACKET_OTHERHOST if the vlan id is set and we could find a vlan device for this particular id. But we also have a problem if prio bits are set. Steinar reported an issue on a router receiving IPv6 frames with a vlan tag of 4000 (id 0, prio 2), and tunneled into a sit device, because skb->vlan_tci is set. Forwarded frame is completely corrupted : We can see (8100:4000) being inserted in the middle of IPv6 source address : 16:48:00.780413 IP6 2001:16d8:8100:4000:ee1c:0:9d9:bc87 > 9f94:4d95:2001:67c:29f4::: ICMP6, unknown icmp6 type (0), length 64 0x0000: 0000 0029 8000 c7c3 7103 0001 a0ae e651 0x0010: 0000 0000 ccce 0b00 0000 0000 1011 1213 0x0020: 1415 1617 1819 1a1b 1c1d 1e1f 2021 2223 0x0030: 2425 2627 2829 2a2b 2c2d 2e2f 3031 3233 It seems we are not really ready to properly cope with this right now. We can probably do better in future kernels : vlan_get_ingress_priority() should be a netdev property instead of a per vlan_dev one. For stable kernels, lets clear vlan_tci to fix the bugs. vlan: don't deliver frames for unknown vlans to protocols 6a32e4f9dd9219261f8856f817e6655114cfec2f made the vlan code skip marking vlan-tagged frames for not locally configured vlans as PACKET_OTHERHOST if there was an rx_handler, as the rx_handler could cause the frame to be received on a different (virtual) vlan-capable interface where that vlan might be configured. As rx_handlers do not necessarily return RX_HANDLER_ANOTHER, this could cause frames for unknown vlans to be delivered to the protocol stack as if they had been received untagged. For example, if an ipv6 router advertisement that's tagged for a locally not configured vlan is received on an interface with macvlan interfaces attached, macvlan's rx_handler returns RX_HANDLER_PASS after delivering the frame to the macvlan interfaces, which caused it to be passed to the protocol stack, leading to ipv6 addresses for the announced prefix being configured even though those are completely unusable on the underlying interface. The fix moves marking as PACKET_OTHERHOST after the rx_handler so the rx_handler, if there is one, sees the frame unchanged, but afterwards, before the frame is delivered to the protocol stack, it gets marked whether there is an rx_handler or not. Otherwise the vlan header will not be properly put on the packet in the case of vlan header accelleration. As we remove the check from vlan_check_reorder_header rename it vlan_reorder_header to keep the naming clean. Fix up the skb->pkt_type early so we don't look at the packet after adding the vlan tag, which guarantees we don't goof and look at the wrong field. Use a simple if statement instead of a complicated switch statement to decided that we need to increment rx_stats for a multicast packet. net: vlan: make non-hw-accel rx path similar to hw-accel Now there are 2 paths for rx vlan frames. For non-rx-vlan-hw-accel however, tagged skb goes thru whole __netif_receive_skb, it's untagged in ptype_base hander and reinjected This incosistency is fixed by this patch. vlan: Centralize handling of hardware acceleration. Currently each driver that is capable of vlan hardware acceleration must be aware of the vlan groups that are configured and then pass the stripped tag to a specialized receive function. This is different from other types of hardware offload in that it places a significant amount of knowledge in the driver itself rather keeping it in the networking core. This makes vlan offloading function more similarly to other forms of offloading (such as checksum offloading or TSO) by doing the following: * On receive, stripped vlans are passed directly to the network core, without attempting to check for vlan groups or reconstructing the header if no group * vlans are made less special by folding the logic into the main receive routines * On transmit, the device layer will add the vlan header in software if the hardware doesn't support it, instead of spreading that logic out in upper layers, such as bonding. There are a number of advantages to this: * Fixes all bugs with drivers incorrectly dropping vlan headers at once. * Avoids having to disable VLAN acceleration when in promiscuous mode (good for bridging since it always puts devices in promiscuous mode). * Keeps VLAN tag separate until given to ultimate consumer, which avoids needing to do header reconstruction as in tg3 unless absolutely necessary. * Consolidates common code in core networking. vlan_dev: VLAN 0 should be treated as "no vlan tag" (802.1p packet) - Without the 8021q module loaded in the kernel, all 802.1p packets (VLAN 0 but QoS tagging) are silently discarded (as expected, as the protocol is not loaded). - Without this patch in 8021q module, these packets are forwarded to the module, but they are discarded also if VLAN 0 is not configured, which should not be the default behaviour, as VLAN 0 is not really a VLANed packet but a 802.1p packet. Defining VLAN 0 makes it almost impossible to communicate with mixed 802.1p and non 802.1p devices on the same network due to arp table issues. - Changed logic to skip vlan specific code in vlan_skb_recv if VLAN is 0 and we have not defined a VLAN with ID 0, but we accept the packet with the encapsulated proto and pass it later to netif_rx. - In the vlan device event handler, added some logic to add VLAN 0 to HW filter in devices that support it (this prevented any traffic in VLAN 0 to reach the stack in e1000e with HW filter under 2.6.35, and probably also with other HW filtered cards, so we fix it here). - In the vlan unregister logic, prevent the elimination of VLAN 0 in devices with HW filter. - The default behaviour is to ignore the VLAN 0 tagging and accept the packet as if it was not tagged, but we can still define a VLAN 0 if desired (so it is backwards compatible). net: deliver skbs on inactive slaves to exact matches Currently, the accelerated receive path for VLAN's will drop packets if the real device is an inactive slave and is not one of the special pkts tested for in skb_bond_should_drop(). This behavior is different then the non-accelerated path and for pkts over a bonded vlan. For example, vlanx -> bond0 -> ethx will be dropped in the vlan path and not delivered to any packet handlers at all. However, bond0 -> vlanx -> ethx and bond0 -> ethx will be delivered to handlers that match the exact dev, because the VLAN path checks the real_dev which is not a slave and netif_recv_skb() doesn't drop frames but only delivers them to exact matches. This patch adds a sk_buff flag which is used for tagging skbs that would previously been dropped and allows the skb to continue to skb_netif_recv(). Here we add logic to check for the deliver_no_wcard flag and if it is set only deliver to handlers that match exactly. This makes both paths above consistent and gives pkt handlers a way to identify skbs that come from inactive slaves. Without this patch in some configurations skbs will be delivered to handlers with exact matches and in others be dropped out right in the vlan path. I have tested the following 4 configurations in failover modes and load balancing modes. # bond0 -> ethx # vlanx -> bond0 -> ethx # bond0 -> vlanx -> ethx # bond0 -> ethx | vlanx -> -- Signed-off-by: John Fastabend <john.r.fastabend@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. We update RX stats counter without any locking, so we can get slightly wrong counters. gro: Normalise skb before bypassing GRO on netpoll VLAN path Hi: gro: Normalise skb before bypassing GRO on netpoll VLAN path When we detect netpoll RX on the GRO VLAN path we bail out and call the normal VLAN receive handler. However, the packet needs to be normalised by calling eth_type_trans since that's what the normal path expects (normally the GRO path does the fixup). GRO: Move netpoll checks to correct location As my netpoll fix for net doesn't really work for net-next, we need this update to move the checks into the right place. As it stands we may pass freed skbs to netpoll_receive_skb. This patch also introduces a netpoll_rx_on function to avoid GRO completely if we're invoked through netpoll. This might seem paranoid but as netpoll may have an external receive hook it's better to be safe than sorry. I don't think we need this for 2.6.29 though since there's nothing immediately broken by it. This patch also moves the GRO_* return values to netdevice.h since VLAN needs them too (I tried to avoid this originally but alas this seems to be the easiest way out). This fixes a bug in VLAN where it continued to use the old return value 2 instead of the correct GRO_DROP. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au> Signed-off-by: David S. netpoll: Add drop checks to all entry points The netpoll entry checks are required to ensure that we don't receive normal packets when invoked via netpoll. Unfortunately it only ever worked for the netif_receive_skb/netif_rx entry points. The VLAN (and subsequently GRO) entry point didn't have the check and therefore can trigger all sorts of weird problems. This patch adds the netpoll check to all entry points. I'm still uneasy with receiving at all under netpoll (which apparently is only used by the out-of-tree kdump code). The reason is it is perfectly legal to receive all data including headers into highmem if netpoll is off, but if you try to do that with netpoll on and someone gets a printk in an IRQ handler you're going to get a nice BUG_ON. gro: Avoid copying headers of unmerged packets Unfortunately simplicity isn't always the best. The fraginfo interface turned out to be suboptimal. The problem was quite obvious. For every packet, we have to copy the headers from the frags structure into skb->head, even though for 99% of the packets this part is immediately thrown away after the merge. LRO didn't have this problem because it directly read the headers from the frags structure. This patch attempts to address this by creating an interface that allows GRO to access the headers in the first frag without having to copy it. Because all drivers that use frags place the headers in the first frag this optimisation should be enough. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au> Signed-off-by: David S.
