sched: Make struct sched_statistics independent of fair sched class

If we want to use the schedstats facility to trace other sched classes, we
should make it independent of fair sched class. The struct sched_statistics
is the schedular statistics of a task_struct or a task_group. So we can
move it into struct task_struct and struct task_group to achieve the goal.

After the patch, schestats are orgnized as follows,

struct sched_statistics stats;

};

Regarding the task group, schedstats is only supported for fair group
sched, and a new struct sched_entity_stats is introduced, suggested by
Peter -

Then with the se in a task_group, we can easily get the stats.

The sched_statistics members may be frequently modified when schedstats is
enabled, in order to avoid impacting on random data which may in the same
cacheline with them, the struct sched_statistics is defined as cacheline
aligned.

As this patch changes the core struct of scheduler, so I verified the
performance it may impact on the scheduler with 'perf bench sched
pipe', suggested by Mel. Below is the result, in which all the values
are in usecs/op.

[These data is a little difference with the earlier version, that is
because my old test machine is destroyed so I have to use a new

sched: Remove select_task_rq()'s sd_flag parameter

Only select_task_rq_fair() uses that parameter to do an actual domain
search, other classes only care about what kind of wakeup is happening
(fork, exec, or "regular") and thus just translate the flag into a wakeup
type.

WF_TTWU and WF_EXEC have just been added, use these along with WF_FORK to
encode the wakeup types we care about. For select_task_rq_fair(), we can
simply use the shiny new WF_flag : SD_flag mapping.

sched: Remove relyance on STRUCT_ALIGNMENT

Florian reported that all of kernel/sched/ is rebuild when
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD is changed, which, while not a bug is
unexpected. This is due to us including vmlinux.lds.h.

Jakub explained that the problem is that we put the alignment
requirement on the type instead of on a variable. Type alignment is a
minimum, the compiler is free to pick any larger alignment for a
specific instance of the type (eg. the variable).

So force the type alignment on all individual variable definitions and
remove the undesired dependency on vmlinux.lds.h.

sched: Force the address order of each sched class descriptor

In order to make a micro optimization in pick_next_task(), the order of the
sched class descriptor address must be in the same order as their priority
to each other. That is:

&idle_sched_class < &fair_sched_class < &rt_sched_class <
&dl_sched_class < &stop_sched_class

In order to guarantee this order of the sched class descriptors, add each
one into their own data section and force the order in the linker script.

sched/idle,stop: Remove .get_rr_interval from sched_class

The idle task and stop task sched_classes return 0 in this function.

The single call site in sched_rr_get_interval() calls
p->sched_class->get_rr_interval() only conditional in case it is
defined. Otherwise time_slice=0 will be used.

The deadline sched class does not define it. Commit a57beec5d427
("sched: Make sched_class::get_rr_interval() optional") introduced
the default time-slice=0 for sched classes which do not provide this
function.

So .get_rr_interval for idle and stop sched_class can be removed to
shrink the code a little.

sched: Fix pick_next_task() vs 'change' pattern race

Commit 67692435c411 ("sched: Rework pick_next_task() slow-path")
inadvertly introduced a race because it changed a previously
unexplored dependency between dropping the rq->lock and
sched_class::put_prev_task().

The comments about dropping rq->lock, in for example
newidle_balance(), only mentions the task being current and ->on_cpu
being set. But when we look at the 'change' pattern (in for example
sched_setnuma()):

queued = task_on_rq_queued(p); /* p->on_rq == TASK_ON_RQ_QUEUED */
running = task_current(rq, p); /* rq->curr == p */

if (queued)
dequeue_task(...);
if (running)
put_prev_task(...);

/* change task properties */

if (queued)

It becomes obvious that if we do this after put_prev_task() has
already been called on @p, things go sideways. This is exactly what
the commit in question allows to happen when it does:

prev->sched_class->put_prev_task(rq, prev, rf);
if (!rq->nr_running)
newidle_balance(rq, rf);

The newidle_balance() call will drop rq->lock after we've called
put_prev_task() and that allows the above 'change' pattern to
interleave and mess up the state.

Furthermore, it turns out we lost the RT-pull when we put the last DL
task.

Fix both problems by extracting the balancing from put_prev_task() and
doing a multi-class balance() pass before put_prev_task().

sched: Rework pick_next_task() slow-path

Avoid the RETRY_TASK case in the pick_next_task() slow path.

By doing the put_prev_task() early, we get the rt/deadline pull done,
and by testing rq->nr_running we know if we need newidle_balance().

This then gives a stable state to pick a task from.

Since the fast-path is fair only; it means the other classes will
always have pick_next_task(.prev=NULL, .rf=NULL) and we can simplify.

sched: Allow put_prev_task() to drop rq->lock

Currently the pick_next_task() loop is convoluted and ugly because of
how it can drop the rq->lock and needs to restart the picking.

For the RT/Deadline classes, it is put_prev_task() where we do
balancing, and we could do this before the picking loop. Make this
possible.

sched/isolation: Offload residual 1Hz scheduler tick

When a CPU runs in full dynticks mode, a 1Hz tick remains in order to
keep the scheduler stats alive. However this residual tick is a burden
for bare metal tasks that can't stand any interruption at all, or want
to minimize them.

The usual boot parameters "nohz_full=" or "isolcpus=nohz" will now
outsource these scheduler ticks to the global workqueue so that a
housekeeping CPU handles those remotely. The sched_class::task_tick()
implementations have been audited and look safe to be called remotely
as the target runqueue and its current task are passed in parameter
and don't seem to be accessed locally.

Note that in the case of using isolcpus, it's still up to the user to
affine the global workqueues to the housekeeping CPUs through
/sys/devices/virtual/workqueue/cpumask or domains isolation
"isolcpus=nohz,domain".

License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.

For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).

- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

locking/lockdep, sched/core: Implement a better lock pinning scheme

The problem with the existing lock pinning is that each pin is of
value 1; this mean you can simply unpin if you know its pinned,
without having any extra information.

This scheme generates a random (16 bit) cookie for each pin and
requires this same cookie to unpin. This means you have to keep the
cookie in context.

No objsize difference for !LOCKDEP kernels.

Chris bisected a NULL pointer deference in task_sched_runtime() to
commit 6e998916dfe3 'sched/cputime: Fix clock_nanosleep()/clock_gettime()
inconsistency'.

Chris observed crashes in atop or other /proc walking programs when he
started fork bombs on his machine. He assumed that this is a new exit
race, but that does not make any sense when looking at that commit.

What's interesting is that, the commit provides update_curr callbacks
for all scheduling classes except stop_task and idle_task.

While nothing can ever hit that via the clock_nanosleep() and
clock_gettime() interfaces, which have been the target of the commit in
question, the author obviously forgot that there are other code paths
which invoke task_sched_runtime()

If the stats are read for a stomp machine task, aka 'migration/N' and
that task is current on its cpu, this will happily call the NULL pointer
of stop_task->update_curr. Ooops.

Chris observation that this happens faster when he runs the fork bomb
makes sense as the fork bomb will kick migration threads more often so
the probability to hit the issue will increase.

Add the missing update_curr callbacks to the scheduler classes stop_task
and idle_task. While idle tasks cannot be monitored via /proc we have
other means to hit the idle case.

sched: Add wrapper for checking task_struct::on_rq

Implement task_on_rq_queued() and use it everywhere instead of
on_rq check. No functional changes.

The only exception is we do not use the wrapper in
check_for_tasks(), because it requires to export
task_on_rq_queued() in global header files. Next patch in series
would return it back, so we do not twist it from here to there.

sched, nohz: Change rq->nr_running to always use wrappers

Sometimes ->nr_running may cross 2 but interrupt is not being
sent to rq's cpu. In this case we don't reenable the timer.
Looks like this may be the reason for rare unexpected effects,
if nohz is enabled.

Patch replaces all places of direct changing of nr_running
and makes add_nr_running() caring about crossing border.

Dan Carpenter reported:

Kirill also spotted that migrate_tasks() will have an instant NULL
deref because pick_next_task() will immediately deref prev.

Instead of fixing all the corner cases because migrate_tasks() can
pass in a NULL prev task in the unlikely case of hot-un-plug, provide
a fake task such that we can remove all the NULL checks from the far
more common paths.

A further problem; not previously spotted; is that because we pushed
pre_schedule() and idle_balance() into pick_next_task() we now need to
avoid those getting called and pulling more tasks on our dying CPU.

We avoid pull_{dl,rt}_task() by setting fake_task.prio to MAX_PRIO+1.
We also note that since we call pick_next_task() exactly the amount of
times we have runnable tasks present, we should never land in
idle_balance().

sched/deadline: Add SCHED_DEADLINE structures & implementation

Introduces the data structures, constants and symbols needed for
SCHED_DEADLINE implementation.

Core data structure of SCHED_DEADLINE are defined, along with their
initializers. Hooks for checking if a task belong to the new policy
are also added where they are needed.

Adds a scheduling class, in sched/dl.c and a new policy called
SCHED_DEADLINE. It is an implementation of the Earliest Deadline
First (EDF) scheduling algorithm, augmented with a mechanism (called
Constant Bandwidth Server, CBS) that makes it possible to isolate
the behaviour of tasks between each other.

The typical -deadline task will be made up of a computation phase
(instance) which is activated on a periodic or sporadic fashion. The
expected (maximum) duration of such computation is called the task's
runtime; the time interval by which each instance need to be completed
is called the task's relative deadline. The task's absolute deadline
is dynamically calculated as the time instant a task (better, an
instance) activates plus the relative deadline.

The EDF algorithms selects the task with the smallest absolute
deadline as the one to be executed first, while the CBS ensures each
task to run for at most its runtime every (relative) deadline
length time interval, avoiding any interference between different
tasks (bandwidth isolation).
Thanks to this feature, also tasks that do not strictly comply with
the computational model sketched above can effectively use the new
policy.

To summarize, this patch:
- introduces the data structures, constants and symbols needed;
- implements the core logic of the scheduling algorithm in the new
scheduling class file;
- provides all the glue code between the new scheduling class and
the core scheduler and refines the interactions between sched/dl
and the other existing scheduling classes.

sched/numa: Introduce migrate_swap()

Use the new stop_two_cpus() to implement migrate_swap(), a function that
flips two tasks between their respective cpus.

I'm fairly sure there's a less crude way than employing the stop_two_cpus()
method, but everything I tried either got horribly fragile and/or complex. So
keep it simple for now.

The notable detail is how we 'migrate' tasks that aren't runnable
anymore. We'll make it appear like we migrated them before they went to
sleep. The sole difference is the previous cpu in the wakeup path, so we
override this.

Make stop scheduler class do the same accounting as other classes,

Migration threads can be caught in the act while doing exec balancing,
leading to the below due to use of unmaintained ->se.exec_start. The
load that triggered this particular instance was an apparently out of
control heavily threaded application that does system monitoring in
what equated to an exec bomb, with one of the VERY frequently migrated
tasks being ps.
