Adding this new stage to the flow enables the firmware to ensure host PFs unload before ECPFs unload, to avoid race of PFs recovery. Once the driver finishes unloading part, it can't get any more events from firmware as event queues are closed, so it polls the reset state field to know when to continue to next stage of the sync reset flow. net/mlx5e: Add padding when needed in UMR WQEs Per the device spec, MTTs/KLMs list in a UMR WQE must be aligned to 64B. Per our SW design, the MTT/KLMs list would need alignment only if it's too small, for example on PPC when PAGE_SIZE is 64KB, and only 4 pages are needed to cover a MPWQE of size 256KB. Padding, if needed, is taken into account when calculating the UMR WQE fields (ds_cnt and xlt_octowords), however no entries are provided, instead garbage is passed. No real harm though, as these parts act as gaps between the RX MPWQEs and not used by any of them. Hence, in practice, device does not try to write any incoming packet to them. Still, prefer providing clean padding marking the end of the list, and do not map garbage into the RQ memory region. net/mlx5e: Support enhanced CQE compression CQE compression feature improves performance by reducing PCI bandwidth bottleneck on CQEs write. Enhanced CQE compression introduced in ConnectX-6 and it aims to reduce CPU utilization of SW side packets decompression by eliminating the need to rewrite ownership bit, which is likely to cost a cache-miss, is replaced by validity byte handled solely by HW. Another advantage of the enhanced feature is that session packets are available to SW as soon as a single CQE slot is filled, instead of waiting for session to close, this improves packet latency from NIC to host. Performance: Following are tested scenarios and reults comparing basic and enahnced CQE compression. setup: IXIA 100GbE connected directly to port 0 and port 1 of ConnectX-6 Dx 100GbE dual port. Case #1 RX only, single flow goes to single queue: IRQ rate reduced by ~ 30%, CPU utilization improved by 2%. Case #2 IP forwarding from port 1 to port 0 single flow goes to single queue: Avg latency improved from 60us to 21us, frame loss improved from 0.5% to 0.0%. Case #3 IP forwarding from port 1 to port 0 Max Throughput IXIA sends 100%, 8192 UDP flows, goes to 24 queues: Enhanced is equal or slightly better than basic. net/mlx5e: Support MACsec offload extended packet number (EPN) MACsec EPN splits the packet number (PN) into two 32-bits fields, epn_lsb (32 least significant bits (LSBs) of PN) and epn_msb (32 most significant bits (MSBs) of PN). Epn_msb bits are managed by SW and for that HW is required to send an object change event of type EPN event notifying the SW to update the epn_msb in addition, once epn_msb is updated SW update HW with the new epn_msb value for HW to perform replay protection. To prevent HW from stopping while handling the event, SW manages another bit for HW called epn_overlap, HW uses the latter to get an indication regarding how to read the epn_msb value correctly while still receiving packets. Add epn event handling that updates the epn_overlap and epn_msb for every 2^31 packets according to the following logic: if epn_lsb crosses 2^31 (half sequence number wraparound) upon HW relevant event, SW updates the esn_overlap value to OLD (value = 1). When the epn_lsb crosses 2^32 (full sequence number wraparound) upon HW relevant event, SW updates the esn_overlap to NEW (value = 0) and increment the esn_msb. When using MACsec EPN a salt and short secure channel id (ssci) needs to be provided by the user, when offloading EPN need to pass this salt and ssci to the HW to be used in the initial vector (IV) calculations. net/mlx5: Allocate individual capability Currently mlx5_core_dev contains array of capabilities. It contains 19 valid capabilities of the device, 2 reserved entries and 12 holes. Due to this for 14 unused entries, mlx5_core_dev allocates 14 * 8K = 112K bytes of memory which is never used. Due to this mlx5_core_dev structure size is 270Kbytes odd. This allocation further aligns to next power of 2 to 512Kbytes. By skipping non-existent entries, (a) 112Kbyte is saved, (b) mlx5_core_dev reduces to 8KB with alignment (c) 350KB saved in alignment In future individual capability allocation can be used to skip its allocation when such capability is disabled at the device level. net/mlx5e: Add CQE compression support for multi-strides packets Add CQE compression support for completions of packets that span multiple strides in a Striding RQ, per the HW capability. In our memory model, we use small strides (256B as of today) for the non-linear SKB mode. This feature allows CQE compression to work also for multiple strides packets. In this case decompressing the mini CQE array will use stride index provided by HW as part of the mini CQE. Before this feature, compression was possible only for single-strided packets, i.e. for packets of size up to 256 bytes when in non-linear mode, and the index was maintained by SW. This feature is supported for ConnectX-5 and above. Feature performance test: This was whitebox-tested, we reduced the PCI speed from 125Gb/s to 62.5Gb/s to overload pci and manipulated mlx5 driver to drop incoming packets before building the SKB to achieve low cpu utilization. Outcome is low cpu utilization and bottleneck on pci only. Test setup: Server: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4108 CPU @ 1.80GHz server, 32 cores NIC: ConnectX-6 DX. Sender side generates 300 byte packets at full pci bandwidth. Receiver side configuration: Single channel, one cpu processing with one ring allocated. Cpu utilization is ~20% while pci bandwidth is fully utilized. For the generated traffic and interface MTU of 4500B (to activate the non-linear SKB mode), packet rate improvement is about 19% from ~17.6Mpps to ~21Mpps. Without this feature, counters show no CQE compression blocks for this setup, while with the feature, counters show ~20.7Mpps compressed CQEs in ~500K compression blocks. net/mlx5: Introduce Mellanox SmartNIC and modify page management logic Mellanox's SmartNIC combines embedded CPU(e.g, ARM) processing power with advanced network offloads to accelerate a multitude of security, networking and storage applications. With the introduction of the SmartNIC, there is a new PCI function called Embedded CPU Physical Function(ECPF). And it's possible for a PF to get its ICM pages from the ECPF PCI function. Driver shall identify if it is running on such a function by reading a bit in the initialization segment. When firmware asks for pages, it would issue a page request event specifying how many pages it requests and for which function. That driver responds with a manage_pages command providing the requested pages along with an indication for which function it is providing these pages. The encoding before this patch was as follows: function_id == 0: pages are requested for the function receiving the EQE. function_id != 0: pages are requested for VF identified by the function_id value A new one bit field in the EQE identifies that pages are requested for the ECPF. The notion of page_supplier can be introduced here and to support that, manage pages and query pages were modified so firmware can distinguish the following cases: 1. Function provides pages for itself 2. PF provides pages for its VF 3. ECPF provides pages to itself 4. ECPF provides pages for another function This distinction is possible through the introduction of the bit "embedded_cpu_function" in query_pages, manage_pages and page request EQE. net/mlx5e: XDP, Support Enhanced Multi-Packet TX WQE Add support for the HW feature of multi-packet WQE in XDP xmit flow. The conventional TX descriptor (WQE, Work Queue Element) serves a single packet. Our HW has support for multi-packet WQE (MPWQE) in which a single descriptor serves multiple TX packets. This reduces both the PCI overhead and the CPU cycles wasted on writing them. In this patch we add support for the HW feature, which is supported starting from ConnectX-5. Performance: Tested packet rate for UDP 64Byte multi-stream over ConnectX-5 NICs. CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v3 @ 2.50GHz XDP_TX: We see a huge gain on single port ConnectX-5, and reach the 100 Mpps milestone. * Single-port HCA: Before: 70 Mpps After: 100 Mpps (+42.8%) * Dual-port HCA: Before: 51.7 Mpps After: 57.3 Mpps (+10.8%) * In both cases we tested traffic on one port and for now On Dual-port HCAs we see only small gain, we are working to overcome this bottleneck, but for the moment only with experimental firmware on dual port HCAs we can reach the wanted numbers as seen on Single-port HCAs. XDP_REDIRECT: Redirect from (A) ConnectX-5 to (B) ConnectX-5. Due to a setup limitation, (A) and (B) are on different NUMA nodes, so absolute performance numbers are not optimal. Note: Below is the transmit rate of (B), not the redirect rate of (A) which is in some cases higher. * (B) is single-port: Before: 77 Mpps After: 90 Mpps (+16.8%) * (B) is dual-port: Before: 61 Mpps After: 72 Mpps (+18%) Signed-off-by: Tariq Toukan <tariqt@mellanox.com> Signed-off-by: Saeed Mahameed <saeedm@mellanox.com>

net/mlx5: EQ, Introduce atomic notifier chain subscription API Use atomic_notifier_chain to fire firmware events at internal mlx5 core components such as eswitch/fpga/clock/FW tracer/etc.., this is to avoid explicit calls from low level mlx5_core to upper components and to simplify the mlx5_core API for future developments. Simply provide register/unregister notifiers API and call the notifier chain on firmware async events. Example: to subscribe to a FW event: struct mlx5_nb port_event; MLX5_NB_INIT(&port_event, port_event_handler, PORT_CHANGE); mlx5_eq_notifier_register(mdev, &port_event); where: - port_event_handler is the notifier block callback. - PORT_EVENT is the suffix of MLX5_EVENT_TYPE_PORT_CHANGE. The above will guarantee that port_event_handler will receive all FW events of the type MLX5_EVENT_TYPE_PORT_CHANGE. To receive all FW/HW events one can subscribe to MLX5_EVENT_TYPE_NOTIFY_ANY. The next few patches will start moving all mlx5 core components to use this new API and cleanup mlx5_eq_async_int misx handler from component explicit calls and specific logic. net/mlx5: FW tracer, events handling The tracer has one event, event 0x26, with two subtypes: - Subtype 0: Ownership change - Subtype 1: Traces available An ownership change occurs in the following cases: 1- Owner releases his ownership, in this case, an event will be sent to inform others to reattempt acquire ownership. 2- Ownership was taken by a higher priority tool, in this case the owner should understand that it lost ownership, and go through tear down flow. The second subtype indicates that there are traces in the trace buffer, in this case, the driver polls the tracer buffer for new traces, parse them and prepares the messages for printing. The HW starts tracing from the first address in the tracer buffer. Driver receives an event notifying that new trace block exists. HW posts a timestamp event at the last 8B of every 256B block. Comparing the timestamp to the last handled timestamp would indicate that this is a new trace block. Once the new timestamp is detected, the entire block is considered valid. Block validation and parsing, should be done after copying the current block to a different location, in order to avoid block overwritten during processing. net/mlx5e: Use linear SKB in Striding RQ Current Striding RQ HW feature utilizes the RX buffers so that there is no wasted room between the strides. This maximises the memory utilization. This prevents the use of build_skb() (which requires headroom and tailroom), and demands to memcpy the packets headers into the skb linear part. In this patch, whenever a set of conditions holds, we apply an RQ configuration that allows combining the use of linear SKB on top of a Striding RQ. To use build_skb() with Striding RQ, the following must hold: 1. packet does not cross a page boundary. 2. there is enough headroom and tailroom surrounding the packet. We can satisfy 1 and 2 by configuring: stride size = MTU + headroom + tailoom. This is possible only when: a. (MTU - headroom - tailoom) does not exceed PAGE_SIZE. b. HW LRO is turned off. Using linear SKB has many advantages: - Saves a memcpy of the headers. - No page-boundary checks in datapath. - No filler CQEs. - Significantly smaller CQ. - SKB data continuously resides in linear part, and not split to small amount (linear part) and large amount (fragment). This saves datapath cycles in driver and improves utilization of SKB fragments in GRO. - The fragments of a resulting GRO SKB follow the IP forwarding assumption of equal-size fragments. Some implementation details: HW writes the packets to the beginning of a stride, i.e. does not keep headroom. To overcome this we make sure we can extend backwards and use the last bytes of stride i-1. Extra care is needed for stride 0 as it has no preceding stride. We make sure headroom bytes are available by shifting the buffer pointer passed to HW by headroom bytes. This configuration now becomes default, whenever capable. Of course, this implies turning LRO off. Performance testing: ConnectX-5, single core, single RX ring, default MTU. UDP packet rate, early drop in TC layer: -------------------------------------------- | pkt size | before | after | ratio | -------------------------------------------- | 1500byte | 4.65 Mpps | 5.96 Mpps | 1.28x | | 500byte | 5.23 Mpps | 5.97 Mpps | 1.14x | | 64byte | 5.94 Mpps | 5.96 Mpps | 1.00x | -------------------------------------------- TCP streams: ~20% gain Signed-off-by: Tariq Toukan <tariqt@mellanox.com> Signed-off-by: Saeed Mahameed <saeedm@mellanox.com>

IB/mlx5: Allow future extension of libmlx5 input data Current check requests that new fields in struct mlx5_ib_alloc_ucontext_req_v2 that are not known to the driver be zero. This was introduced so new libraries passing additional information to the kernel through struct mlx5_ib_alloc_ucontext_req_v2 will be notified by old kernels that do not support their request by failing the operation. This schecme is problematic since it requires libmlx5 to issue the requests with descending input size for struct mlx5_ib_alloc_ucontext_req_v2. To avoid this, we require that new features that will obey the following rules: If the feature requires one or more fields in the response and the at least one of the fields can be encoded such that a zero value means the kernel ignored the request then this field will provide the indication to the library. If no response is required or if zero is a valid response, a new field should be added that indicates to the library whether its request was processed. net/mlx5: Introduce blue flame register allocator Here is an implementation of an allocator that allocates blue flame registers. A blue flame register is used for generating send doorbells. A blue flame register can be used to generate either a regular doorbell or a blue flame doorbell where the data to be sent is written to the device's I/O memory hence saving the need to read the data from memory. For blue flame kind of doorbells to succeed, the blue flame register need to be mapped as write combining. The user can specify what kind of send doorbells she wishes to use. If she requested write combining mapping but that failed, the allocator will fall back to non write combining mapping and will indicate that to the user. Subsequent patches in this series will make use of this allocator. net/mlx5e: Support RX multi-packet WQE (Striding RQ) Introduce the feature of multi-packet WQE (RX Work Queue Element) referred to as (MPWQE or Striding RQ), in which WQEs are larger and serve multiple packets each. Every WQE consists of many strides of the same size, every received packet is aligned to a beginning of a stride and is written to consecutive strides within a WQE. In the regular approach, each regular WQE is big enough to be capable of serving one received packet of any size up to MTU or 64K in case of device LRO is enabled, making it very wasteful when dealing with small packets or device LRO is enabled. For its flexibility, MPWQE allows a better memory utilization (implying improvements in CPU utilization and packet rate) as packets consume strides according to their size, preserving the rest of the WQE to be available for other packets. MPWQE default configuration: Num of WQEs = 16 Strides Per WQE = 2048 Stride Size = 64 byte The default WQEs memory footprint went from 1024*mtu (~1.5MB) to 16 * 2048 * 64 = 2MB per ring. However, HW LRO can now be supported at no additional cost in memory footprint, and hence we turn it on by default and get an even better performance. Performance tested on ConnectX4-Lx 50G. To isolate the feature under test, the numbers below were measured with HW LRO turned off. We verified that the performance just improves when LRO is turned back on. * Netperf single TCP stream: - BW raised by 10-15% for representative packet sizes: default, 64B, 1024B, 1478B, 65536B. * Netperf multi TCP stream: - No degradation, line rate reached. * Pktgen: packet rate raised by 2-10% for traffic of different message sizes: 64B, 128B, 256B, 1024B, and 1500B. * Pktgen: packet loss in bursts of small messages (64byte), single stream: - | num packets | packets loss before | packets loss after | 2K | ~ 1K | 0 | 8K | ~ 6K | 0 | 16K | ~13K | 0 | 32K | ~28K | 0 | 64K | ~57K | ~24K As expected as the driver can receive as many small packets (<=64B) as the number of total strides in the ring (default = 2048 * 16) vs. 1024 (default ring size regardless of packets size) before this feature. net/mlx5: Introducing E-Switch and l2 table E-Switch is the software entity that represents and manages ConnectX4 inter-HCA ethernet l2 switching. E-Switch has its own Virtual Ports, each Vport/vNIC/VF can be connected to the device through a vport of an e-switch. Each e-switch is managed by one vNIC identified by HCA_CAP.vport_group_manager (usually it is the PF/vport[0]), and its main responsibility is to forward each packet to the right vport. e-Switch needs to manage its own l2-table and FDB tables. L2 table is a flow table that is managed by FW, it is needed for Multi-host (Multi PF) configuration for inter HCA switching between PFs. FDB table is a flow table that is totally managed by e-Switch driver, its main responsibility is to switch packets between e-Swtich internal vports and uplink vport that belong to the same. This patch introduces only e-Swtich l2 table management, FDB managemnt will come later when ethernet SRIOV/VFs will be enabled. preperation for ethernet sriov and l2 table management. IB/mlx5: Remove support for IB_DEVICE_LOCAL_DMA_LKEY Commit 96249d70dd70 ("IB/core: Guarantee that a local_dma_lkey is available") allows ULPs that make use of the local dma key to keep working as before by allocating a DMA MR with local permissions and converted these consumers to use the MR associated with the PD rather then device->local_dma_lkey. ConnectIB has some known issues with memory registration using the local_dma_lkey (SEND, RDMA, RECV seems to work ok). Thus don't expose support for it (remove device->local_dma_lkey setting), and take advantage of the above commit such that no regression is introduced to working systems. This patch contains the driver entry points but does not include transmit and receive (see the previous patch in the series) routines. It also adds the option MLX5_CORE_EN to Kconfig to enable/disable the Ethernet functionality. Currently, Kconfig is programmed to make Ethernet and Infiniband functionality mutally exclusive. IB/mlx5: Add mlx5_ib_update_mtt to update page tables after creation The new function allows updating the page tables of a memory region after it was created. This can be used to handle page faults and page invalidations. Since mlx5_ib_update_mtt will need to work from within page invalidation, so it must not block on memory allocation. It employs an atomic memory allocation mechanism that is used as a fallback when kmalloc(GFP_ATOMIC) fails. IB/mlx5: Changes in memory region creation to support on-demand paging This patch wraps together several changes needed for on-demand paging support in the mlx5_ib_populate_pas function, and when registering memory regions. * Instead of accepting a UMR bit telling the function to enable all access flags, the function now accepts the access flags themselves. * For on-demand paging memory regions, fill the memory tables from the correct list, and enable/disable the access flags per-page according to whether the page is present. * A new bit is set to enable writing of access flags when using the firmware create_mkey command. * Disable contig pages when on-demand paging is enabled. mlx5: Clear reserved area in set_hca_cap() Firmware spec requires reserved fields to be cleared when calling set_hca_cap. Current code queries and copy to the set area, possibly resulting in reserved bits not cleared. This patch copies only writable fields to the set area. Fix also typo - msx => max Signed-off-by: Eli Cohen <eli@mellanox.com> Signed-off-by: Roland Dreier <roland@purestorage.com>

net/mlx5_core: Support MANAGE_PAGES and QUERY_PAGES firmware command changes In the previous QUERY_PAGES command version we used one command to get the required amount of boot, init and post init pages. The new version uses the op_mod field to specify whether the query is for the required amount of boot, init or post init pages. In addition the output field size for the required amount of pages increased from 16 to 32 bits. In MANAGE_PAGES command the input_num_entries and output_num_entries fields sizes changed from 16 to 32 bits and the PAS tables offset changed to 0x10. In the pages request event the num_pages field also changed to 32 bits. In the HCA-capabilities-layout the size and location of max_qp_mcg field has been changed to support 24 bits. This patch isn't compatible with firmware versions < 5; however, it turns out that the first GA firmware we will publish will not support previous versions so this should be OK. mlx5_core: Implement new initialization sequence Introduce enbale_hca and disable_hca commands to signify when the driver starts or ceases to operate on the device. In addition the driver will use boot and init pages count; boot pages is required to allow firmware to complete boot commands and the other to complete init hca. Command interface revision is bumped to 4 to enforce using supported firmware. This patch breaks compatibility with old versions of firmware (< 4); however, the first GA firmware we will publish will support version 4 so this should not be a problem. mlx5_core: Adjust hca_cap.uar_page_sz to conform to Connect-IB spec Sparse reported an endianness bug in the assignment to hca_cap.uar_page_sz. Fix the declaration of this field to be __be16 (which is what is in the firmware spec), renaming the field to log_uar_pg_size to conform to the spec, which fixes the endianness bug reported by sparse. mlx5: Add driver for Mellanox Connect-IB adapters The driver is comprised of two kernel modules: mlx5_ib and mlx5_core. This partitioning resembles what we have for mlx4, except that mlx5_ib is the pci device driver and not mlx5_core. mlx5_core is essentially a library that provides general functionality that is intended to be used by other Mellanox devices that will be introduced in the future. mlx5_ib has a similar role as any hardware device under drivers/infiniband/hw.
