net: make vlan_get_tag() return -ENODATA instead of -EINVAL __vlan_hwaccel_get_tag() is used in veth XDP hints implementation, its return value (-EINVAL if skb is not VLAN tagged) is passed to bpf code, but XDP hints specification requires drivers to return -ENODATA, if a hint cannot be provided for a particular packet. Solve this inconsistency by changing error return value of __vlan_hwaccel_get_tag() from -EINVAL to -ENODATA, do the same thing to __vlan_get_tag(), because this function is supposed to follow the same convention. This, in turn, makes -ENODATA the only non-zero value vlan_get_tag() can return. We can do this with no side effects, because none of the users of the 3 above-mentioned functions rely on the exact value. net: dsa: tag_ocelot: call only the relevant portion of __skb_vlan_pop() on TX ocelot_xmit_get_vlan_info() calls __skb_vlan_pop() as the most appropriate helper I could find which strips away a VLAN header. That's all I need it to do, but __skb_vlan_pop() has more logic, which will become incompatible with the future revert of commit 6d1ccff62780 ("net: reset mac header in dev_start_xmit()"). Namely, it performs a sanity check on skb_mac_header(), which will stop being set after the above revert, so it will return an error instead of removing the VLAN tag. ocelot_xmit_get_vlan_info() gets called in 2 circumstances: (1) the port is under a VLAN-aware bridge and the bridge sends VLAN-tagged packets (2) the port is under a VLAN-aware bridge and somebody else (an 8021q upper) sends VLAN-tagged packets (using a VID that isn't in the bridge vlan tables) In case (1), there is actually no bug to defend against, because br_dev_xmit() calls skb_reset_mac_header() and things continue to work. However, in case (2), illustrated using the commands below, it can be seen that our intervention is needed, since __skb_vlan_pop() complains: $ ip link add br0 type bridge vlan_filtering 1 && ip link set br0 up $ ip link set $eth master br0 && ip link set $eth up $ ip link add link $eth name $eth.100 type vlan id 100 && ip link set $eth.100 up $ ip addr add 192.168.100.1/24 dev $eth.100 I could fend off the checks in __skb_vlan_pop() with some skb_mac_header_was_set() calls, but seeing how few callers of __skb_vlan_pop() there are from TX paths, that seems rather unproductive. As an alternative solution, extract the bare minimum logic to strip a VLAN header, and move it to a new helper named vlan_remove_tag(), close to the definition of vlan_insert_tag(). Document it appropriately and make ocelot_xmit_get_vlan_info() call this smaller helper instead. Seeing that it doesn't appear illegal to test skb->protocol in the TX path, I guess it would be a good for vlan_remove_tag() to also absorb the vlan_set_encap_proto() function call. vlan: consolidate VLAN parsing code and limit max parsing depth Toshiaki pointed out that we now have two very similar functions to extract the L3 protocol number in the presence of VLAN tags. And Daniel pointed out that the unbounded parsing loop makes it possible for maliciously crafted packets to loop through potentially hundreds of tags. Fix both of these issues by consolidating the two parsing functions and limiting the VLAN tag parsing to a max depth of 8 tags. As part of this, switch over __vlan_get_protocol() to use skb_header_pointer() instead of pskb_may_pull(), to avoid the possible side effects of the latter and keep the skb pointer 'const' through all the parsing functions. v2: - Use limit of 8 tags instead of 32 (matching XMIT_RECURSION_LIMIT) Reported-by: Toshiaki Makita <toshiaki.makita1@gmail.com> Reported-by: Daniel Borkmann <daniel@iogearbox.net> Fixes: d7bf2ebebc2b ("sched: consistently handle layer3 header accesses in the presence of VLANs") Signed-off-by: Toke Høiland-Jørgensen <toke@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. sched: consistently handle layer3 header accesses in the presence of VLANs There are a couple of places in net/sched/ that check skb->protocol and act on the value there. However, in the presence of VLAN tags, the value stored in skb->protocol can be inconsistent based on whether VLAN acceleration is enabled. The commit quoted in the Fixes tag below fixed the users of skb->protocol to use a helper that will always see the VLAN ethertype. However, most of the callers don't actually handle the VLAN ethertype, but expect to find the IP header type in the protocol field. This means that things like changing the ECN field, or parsing diffserv values, stops working if there's a VLAN tag, or if there are multiple nested VLAN tags (QinQ). To fix this, change the helper to take an argument that indicates whether the caller wants to skip the VLAN tags or not. When skipping VLAN tags, we make sure to skip all of them, so behaviour is consistent even in QinQ mode. To make the helper usable from the ECN code, move it to if_vlan.h instead of pkt_sched.h. v3: - Remove empty lines - Move vlan variable definitions inside loop in skb_protocol() - Also use skb_protocol() helper in IP{,6}_ECN_decapsulate() and bpf_skb_ecn_set_ce() v2: - Use eth_type_vlan() helper in skb_protocol() - Also fix code that reads skb->protocol directly - Change a couple of 'if/else if' statements to switch constructs to avoid calling the helper twice Reported-by: Ilya Ponetayev <i.ponetaev@ndmsystems.com> Fixes: d8b9605d2697 ("net: sched: fix skb->protocol use in case of accelerated vlan path") Signed-off-by: Toke Høiland-Jørgensen <toke@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. In order to avoid lockdep warning, ->ndo_get_lock_subclass() was added to get lockdep subclass value, which is actually lower nested depth value. But now, they use the dynamic lockdep key to avoid lockdep warning instead of the subclass. So, this patch removes ->ndo_get_lock_subclass() callback. vlan: Fix vlan insertion for packets without ethernet header In some situation vlan packets do not have ethernet headers. One example is packets from tun devices. Users can specify vlan protocol in tun_pi field instead of IP protocol. When we have a vlan device with reorder_hdr disabled on top of the tun device, such packets from tun devices are untagged in skb_vlan_untag() and vlan headers will be inserted back in vlan_insert_inner_tag(). vlan_insert_inner_tag() however did not expect packets without ethernet headers, so in such a case size argument for memmove() underflowed. We don't need to copy headers for packets which do not have preceding headers of vlan headers, so skip memmove() in that case. Also don't write vlan protocol in skb->data when it does not have enough room for it. net: Call add/kill vid ndo on vlan filter feature toggling NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_[CS]TAG_FILTER features require more than just a bit flip in dev->features in order to keep the driver in a consistent state. These features notify the driver of each added/removed vlan, but toggling of vlan-filter does not notify the driver accordingly for each of the existing vlans. This patch implements a similar solution to NETIF_F_RX_UDP_TUNNEL_PORT behavior (which notifies the driver about UDP ports in the same manner that vids are reported). Each toggling of the features propagates to the 8021q module, which iterates over the vlans and call add/kill ndo accordingly. vlan: Fix out of order vlan headers with reorder header off With reorder header off, received packets are untagged in skb_vlan_untag() called from within __netif_receive_skb_core(), and later the tag will be inserted back in vlan_do_receive(). This caused out of order vlan headers when we create a vlan device on top of another vlan device, because vlan_do_receive() inserts a tag as the outermost vlan tag. E.g. the outer tag is first removed in skb_vlan_untag() and inserted back in vlan_do_receive(), then the inner tag is next removed and inserted back as the outermost tag. This patch fixes the behaviour by inserting the inner tag at the right position. Signed-off-by: Toshiaki Makita <makita.toshiaki@lab.ntt.co.jp> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

vlan: Fix tcp checksum offloads in Q-in-Q vlans It appears that TCP checksum offloading has been broken for Q-in-Q vlans. The behavior was execerbated by the series commit afb0bc972b52 ("Merge branch 'stacked_vlan_tso'") that that enabled accleleration features on stacked vlans. However, event without that series, it is possible to trigger this issue. It just requires a lot more specialized configuration. The root cause is the interaction between how netdev_intersect_features() works, the features actually set on the vlan devices and HW having the ability to run checksum with longer headers. The issue starts when netdev_interesect_features() replaces NETIF_F_HW_CSUM with a combination of NETIF_F_IP_CSUM | NETIF_F_IPV6_CSUM, if the HW advertises IP|IPV6 specific checksums. This happens for tagged and multi-tagged packets. However, HW that enables IP|IPV6 checksum offloading doesn't gurantee that packets with arbitrarily long headers can be checksummed. This patch disables IP|IPV6 checksums on the packet for multi-tagged packets. flow_dissector: Get vlan priority in addition to vlan id Add vlan priority check to the flow dissector by adding new flow dissector struct, flow_dissector_key_vlan which includes vlan tag fields. vlan_id and flow_label fields were under the same struct (flow_dissector_key_tags). It was a convenient setting since struct flow_dissector_key_tags is used by struct flow_keys and by setting vlan_id and flow_label under the same struct, we get precisely 24 or 48 bytes in flow_keys from flow_dissector_key_basic. Now, when adding vlan priority support, the code will be cleaner if flow_label and vlan tag won't be under the same struct anymore. net: Always untag vlan-tagged traffic on input. Currently the functionality to untag traffic on input resides as part of the vlan module and is build only when VLAN support is enabled in the kernel. When VLAN is disabled, the function vlan_untag() turns into a stub and doesn't really untag the packets. This seems to create an interesting interaction between VMs supporting checksum offloading and some network drivers. There are some drivers that do not allow the user to change tx-vlan-offload feature of the driver. These drivers also seem to assume that any VLAN-tagged traffic they transmit will have the vlan information in the vlan_tci and not in the vlan header already in the skb. When transmitting skbs that already have tagged data with partial checksum set, the checksum doesn't appear to be updated correctly by the card thus resulting in a failure to establish TCP connections. The following is a packet trace taken on the receiver where a sender is a VM with a VLAN configued. The host VM is running on doest not have VLAN support and the outging interface on the host is tg3: 10:12:43.503055 52:54:00:ae:42:3f > 28:d2:44:7d:c2:de, ethertype 802.1Q (0x8100), length 78: vlan 100, p 0, ethertype IPv4, (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 27243, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 60) 10.0.100.1.58545 > 10.0.100.10.ircu-2: Flags [S], cksum 0xdc39 (incorrect -> 0x48d9), seq 1069378582, win 29200, options [mss 1460,sackOK,TS val 4294837885 ecr 0,nop,wscale 7], length 0 10:12:44.505556 52:54:00:ae:42:3f > 28:d2:44:7d:c2:de, ethertype 802.1Q (0x8100), length 78: vlan 100, p 0, ethertype IPv4, (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 27244, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 60) 10.0.100.1.58545 > 10.0.100.10.ircu-2: Flags [S], cksum 0xdc39 (incorrect -> 0x44ee), seq 1069378582, win 29200, options [mss 1460,sackOK,TS val 4294838888 ecr 0,nop,wscale 7], length 0 This connection finally times out. I've only access to the TG3 hardware in this configuration thus have only tested this with TG3 driver. There are a lot of other drivers that do not permit user changes to vlan acceleration features, and I don't know if they all suffere from a similar issue. The patch attempt to fix this another way. It moves the vlan header stipping code out of the vlan module and always builds it into the kernel network core. This way, even if vlan is not supported on a virtualizatoin host, the virtual machines running on top of such host will still work with VLANs enabled. bonding: Fix stacked device detection in arp monitoring Prior to commit fbd929f2dce460456807a51e18d623db3db9f077 bonding: support QinQ for bond arp interval the arp monitoring code allowed for proper detection of devices stacked on top of vlans. Since the above commit, the code can still detect a device stacked on top of single vlan, but not a device stacked on top of Q-in-Q configuration. The search will only set the inner vlan tag if the route device is the vlan device. However, this is not always the case, as it is possible to extend the stacked configuration. With this patch it is possible to provision devices on top Q-in-Q vlan configuration that should be used as a source of ARP monitoring information. For example: ip link add link bond0 vlan10 type vlan proto 802.1q id 10 ip link add link vlan10 vlan100 type vlan proto 802.1q id 100 ip link add link vlan100 type macvlan Note: This patch limites the number of stacked VLANs to 2, just like before. The original, however had another issue in that if we had more then 2 levels of VLANs, we would end up generating incorrectly tagged traffic. This is no longer possible. vlan: mask vlan prio bits In commit 48cc32d38a52d0b68f91a171a8d00531edc6a46e ("vlan: don't deliver frames for unknown vlans to protocols") Florian made sure we set pkt_type to PACKET_OTHERHOST if the vlan id is set and we could find a vlan device for this particular id. But we also have a problem if prio bits are set. Steinar reported an issue on a router receiving IPv6 frames with a vlan tag of 4000 (id 0, prio 2), and tunneled into a sit device, because skb->vlan_tci is set. Forwarded frame is completely corrupted : We can see (8100:4000) being inserted in the middle of IPv6 source address : 16:48:00.780413 IP6 2001:16d8:8100:4000:ee1c:0:9d9:bc87 > 9f94:4d95:2001:67c:29f4::: ICMP6, unknown icmp6 type (0), length 64 0x0000: 0000 0029 8000 c7c3 7103 0001 a0ae e651 0x0010: 0000 0000 ccce 0b00 0000 0000 1011 1213 0x0020: 1415 1617 1819 1a1b 1c1d 1e1f 2021 2223 0x0030: 2425 2627 2829 2a2b 2c2d 2e2f 3031 3233 It seems we are not really ready to properly cope with this right now. We can probably do better in future kernels : vlan_get_ingress_priority() should be a netdev property instead of a per vlan_dev one. For stable kernels, lets clear vlan_tci to fix the bugs. vlan: adjust vlan_set_encap_proto() for its callers There are two places to call vlan_set_encap_proto(): vlan_untag() and __pop_vlan_tci(). vlan_untag() assumes skb->data points after mac addr, otherwise the following code vhdr = (struct vlan_hdr *) skb->data; vlan_tci = ntohs(vhdr->h_vlan_TCI); __vlan_hwaccel_put_tag(skb, vlan_tci); skb_pull_rcsum(skb, VLAN_HLEN); won't be correct. But __pop_vlan_tci() assumes points _before_ mac addr. In vlan_set_encap_proto(), it looks for some magic L2 value after mac addr: rawp = skb->data; if (*(unsigned short *) rawp == 0xFFFF) ... Therefore __pop_vlan_tci() is obviously wrong. A quick fix is avoiding using skb->data in vlan_set_encap_proto(), use 'vhdr+1' is always correct in both cases. Cc: David S. vlan: don't deliver frames for unknown vlans to protocols 6a32e4f9dd9219261f8856f817e6655114cfec2f made the vlan code skip marking vlan-tagged frames for not locally configured vlans as PACKET_OTHERHOST if there was an rx_handler, as the rx_handler could cause the frame to be received on a different (virtual) vlan-capable interface where that vlan might be configured. As rx_handlers do not necessarily return RX_HANDLER_ANOTHER, this could cause frames for unknown vlans to be delivered to the protocol stack as if they had been received untagged. For example, if an ipv6 router advertisement that's tagged for a locally not configured vlan is received on an interface with macvlan interfaces attached, macvlan's rx_handler returns RX_HANDLER_PASS after delivering the frame to the macvlan interfaces, which caused it to be passed to the protocol stack, leading to ipv6 addresses for the announced prefix being configured even though those are completely unusable on the underlying interface. The fix moves marking as PACKET_OTHERHOST after the rx_handler so the rx_handler, if there is one, sees the frame unchanged, but afterwards, before the frame is delivered to the protocol stack, it gets marked whether there is an rx_handler or not. As we remove the check from vlan_check_reorder_header rename it vlan_reorder_header to keep the naming clean. Fix up the skb->pkt_type early so we don't look at the packet after adding the vlan tag, which guarantees we don't goof and look at the wrong field. Use a simple if statement instead of a complicated switch statement to decided that we need to increment rx_stats for a multicast packet. Hopefully at somepoint we will just declare the case where VLAN_FLAG_REORDER_HDR is cleared as unsupported and remove the code. Until then this keeps it working correctly. Signed-off-by: Eric W. net: vlan: make non-hw-accel rx path similar to hw-accel Now there are 2 paths for rx vlan frames. When rx-vlan-hw-accel is enabled, skb is untagged by NIC, vlan_tci is set and the skb gets into vlan code in __netif_receive_skb - vlan_hwaccel_do_receive. For non-rx-vlan-hw-accel however, tagged skb goes thru whole __netif_receive_skb, it's untagged in ptype_base hander and reinjected This incosistency is fixed by this patch. Vlan untagging happens early in __netif_receive_skb so the rest of code (ptype_all handlers, rx_handlers) see the skb like it was untagged by hw. vlan: Centralize handling of hardware acceleration. Currently each driver that is capable of vlan hardware acceleration must be aware of the vlan groups that are configured and then pass the stripped tag to a specialized receive function. This is different from other types of hardware offload in that it places a significant amount of knowledge in the driver itself rather keeping it in the networking core. This makes vlan offloading function more similarly to other forms of offloading (such as checksum offloading or TSO) by doing the following: * On receive, stripped vlans are passed directly to the network core, without attempting to check for vlan groups or reconstructing the header if no group * vlans are made less special by folding the logic into the main receive routines * On transmit, the device layer will add the vlan header in software if the hardware doesn't support it, instead of spreading that logic out in upper layers, such as bonding. There are a number of advantages to this: * Fixes all bugs with drivers incorrectly dropping vlan headers at once. * Avoids having to disable VLAN acceleration when in promiscuous mode (good for bridging since it always puts devices in promiscuous mode). * Keeps VLAN tag separate until given to ultimate consumer, which avoids needing to do header reconstruction as in tg3 unless absolutely necessary. * Consolidates common code in core networking. [VLAN]: Reduce memory consumed by vlan_groups Currently each vlan_groupd contains 8 pointers on arrays with 512 pointers on struct net_device each :) Such a construction "in many cases ... wastes memory". My proposal is to allow for some of these arrays pointers be NULL, meaning that there are no devices in it. When a new device is added to the vlan_group, the appropriate array is allocated. The check in vlan_group_get_device's is safe, since the pointer vg->vlan_devices_arrays[x] can only switch from NULL to not-NULL. The vlan_group_prealloc_vid() is guarded with rtnl lock and is also safe. I've checked (I hope that) all the places, that use these arrays and found, that the register_vlan_dev is the only place, that can put a vlan device on an empty vlan_group. Rough calculations shows, that after the patch a setup with a single vlan dev (or up to 512 vlans with sequential vids) will occupy approximately 8 times less memory. The question I have is - does this patch makes sense, or a totally new structures are required to store the vlan_devs? [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace. This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. [VLAN]: Fix promiscous/allmulti synchronization races The set_multicast_list function may be called without holding the rtnl mutex, resulting in races when changing the underlying device's promiscous and allmulti state. Use the change_rx_mode hook, which is always invoked under the rtnl. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

[VLAN]: Fix MAC address handling The VLAN MAC address handling is broken in multiple ways. When the address differs when setting it, the real device is put in promiscous mode twice, but never taken out again. Additionally it doesn't resync when the real device's address is changed and needlessly puts it in promiscous mode when the vlan device is still down. Fix by moving address handling to vlan_dev_open/vlan_dev_stop and properly deal with address changes in the device notifier. Also switch to dev_unicast_add (which needs the exact same handling). Since the set_mac_address handler is identical to the generic ethernet one with these changes, kill it and use ether_setup(). Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_mac_header() For the places where we need a pointer to the mac header, it is still legal to touch skb->mac.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. This one also converts some more cases to skb_reset_mac_header() that my regex missed as it had no spaces before nor after '=', ugh. [VLAN]: Avoid a 4-order allocation. This patch splits the vlan_group struct into a multi-allocated struct. On x86_64, the size of the original struct is a little more than 32KB, causing a 4-order allocation, which is prune to problems caused by buddy-system external fragmentation conditions. I couldn't just use vmalloc() because vfree() cannot be called in the softirq context of the RCU callback. [VLAN]: Make sure bonding packet drop checks get done in hwaccel RX path. Since __vlan_hwaccel_rx() is essentially bypassing the netif_receive_skb() call that would have occurred if we did the VLAN decapsulation in software, we are missing the skb_bond() call and the assosciated checks it does. Export those checks via an inline function, skb_bond_should_drop(), and use this in __vlan_hwaccel_rx(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

[VLAN]: __vlan_hwaccel_rx can use the faster ether_compare_addr The inline function compare_ether_addr is faster than memcmp. Also, don't need to drag in proc_fs.h, the only reference to proc_dir_entry is a pointer so the declaration is needed here. [NET]: Kill skb->real_dev Bonding just wants the device before the skb_bond() decapsulation occurs, so simply pass that original device into packet_type->func() as an argument. It remains to be seen whether we can use this same exact thing to get rid of skb->input_dev as well. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
