Window watchdog timer(WWDT) contains closed(first) and open(second) window with 32 bit width. Write to the watchdog timer within predefined window periods of time. This means a period that is not too soon and a period that is not too late. The WWDT has to be restarted within the open window time. If software tries to restart WWDT outside of the open window time period, it generates a reset. watchdog/pseries-wdt: initial support for H_WATCHDOG-based watchdog timers PAPR v2.12 defines a new hypercall, H_WATCHDOG. The hypercall permits guest control of one or more virtual watchdog timers. The timers have millisecond granularity. The guest is terminated when a timer expires. This patch adds a watchdog driver for these timers, "pseries-wdt". pseries_wdt_probe() currently assumes the existence of only one platform device and always assigns it watchdogNumber 1. If we ever expose more than one timer to userspace we will need to devise a way to assign a distinct watchdogNumber to each platform device at device registration time. watchdog: Add Realtek Otto watchdog timer Realtek MIPS SoCs (platform name Otto) have a watchdog timer with pretimeout notifitication support. The WDT can (partially) hard reset, or soft reset the SoC. This driver implements all features as described in the devicetree binding, except the phase2 interrupt, and also functions as a restart handler. The cpu reset mode is considered to be a "warm" restart, since this mode does not reset all peripherals. Being an embedded system though, the "cpu" and "software" modes will still cause the bootloader to run on restart. It is not known how a forced system reset can be disabled on the supported platforms. This means that the phase2 interrupt will only fire at the same time as reset, so implementing phase2 is of little use. watchdog: Remove BCM63XX_WDT Now that we can utilize the BCM7038_WDT driver, remove that one which was not converted to the watchdog APIs. There are a couple of notable differences with how the bcm7038_wdt driver proceeds: - bcm63xx_wdt would register with the ad-hoc BCM63xx hardware timer API, but this would only be used in order to catch the interrupt *before* a SoC reset and make the kernel "die" - bcm6xx_wdt would register a software timer and kick it every second in order to pet the watchdog, thus offering a two step watchdog process. This is not something that is brought over to the bcm7038_wdt as it is deemed unnecessary. If user-space cannot pet the watchdog, but a kernel timer can, the system is still in a bad shape anyway. bcm7038_wdt is simpler in its behavior and behaves as a standard watchdog driver and is not making use of any specific platform APIs, therefore making it more maintainable and extensible. watchdog: Add hrtimer-based pretimeout feature This adds the option to use a hrtimer to generate a watchdog pretimeout event for hardware watchdogs that do not natively support watchdog pretimeouts. With this enabled, all watchdogs will appear to have pretimeout support in userspace. If no pretimeout value is set, there will be no change in the watchdog's behavior. If a pretimeout value is set for a specific watchdog that does not have built-in pretimeout support, a timer will be started that should fire at the specified time before the watchdog timeout would occur. When the watchdog is successfully pinged, the timer will be restarted. If the timer is allowed to fire it will generate a pretimeout event. However because a software timer is used, it may not be able to fire in every circumstance. If the watchdog does support a pretimeout natively, that functionality will be used instead of the hrtimer. The general design of this feaure was inspired by the software watchdog, specifically its own pretimeout implementation. However the software watchdog and this feature are completely independent. They can be used together; with or without CONFIG_SOFT_WATCHDOG_PRETIMEOUT enabled. The main advantage of using the hrtimer pretimeout with a hardware watchdog, compared to running the software watchdog with a hardware watchdog, is that if the hardware watchdog driver is unable to ping the watchdog (e.g. due to a bus or communication error), then the hrtimer pretimeout would still fire whereas the software watchdog would not. watchdog: intel_scu_watchdog: Remove driver for deprecated platform Intel Moorestown and Medfield are quite old Intel Atom based 32-bit platforms, which were in limited use in some Android phones, tablets and consumer electronics more than eight years ago. There are no bugs or problems ever reported outside from Intel for breaking any of that platforms for years. It seems no real users exists who run more or less fresh kernel on it. The commit 05f4434bc130 ("ASoC: Intel: remove mfld_machine") also in align with this theory. Due to above and to reduce a burden of supporting outdated drivers we remove the support of outdated platforms completely. watchdog: Add new arm_smc_wdt watchdog driver This patch adds a watchdog driver that can be used on ARM systems with the appropriate watchdog implemented in Secure Monitor firmware. The driver communicates with firmware via a Secure Monitor Call. This may be useful for platforms using TrustZone that want the Secure Monitor firmware to have the final control over the watchdog. This is implemented on mt8173 chromebook devices oak, elm and hana in arm trusted firmware file plat/mediatek/mt8173/drivers/wdt/wdt.c. watchdog: Add support for Armada 37xx CPU watchdog This adds support for the CPU watchdog found on Marvell Armada 37xx SoCs. There are 4 counters which can be set as CPU watchdog counters. This driver uses the second counter (ID 1, counting from 0) as watchdog counter, and first counter (ID 0) to implement pinging on the second counter without the need to disable it. Since counters IDs 2 and 3 are enabled already before even U-Boot starts, this driver does not use them at all, for example by adding a device tree property for counter selection. watchdog: Add Nuvoton NPCM watchdog driver The Nuvoton NPCM750 has a watchdog implemented as a single register inside the timer peripheral. This driver exposes that watchdog as a standard watchdog device with coarse timeout intervals, limited by the combination of prescaler and counter that is provided by the hardware. The calculation is taken from the Nuvoton vendor tree. The watchdog is left running if a bootloader had it going. The rate is the one specified in the device tree, or the default value (obtained from the datasheet). There is a pre-timeout IRQ that is wired up. This timeout always occurs 1024 clocks before the timeout. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. In general watchdog pretimeout event means that something essentially bad is going on the system, for example a process scheduler stalls or watchdog feeder is killed due to OOM, so printing out information attendant to panic and before likely unavoidable reboot caused by a watchdog may help to determine a root cause of the issue. watchdog: add watchdog pretimeout governor framework The change adds a simple watchdog pretimeout framework infrastructure, its purpose is to allow users to select a desired handling of watchdog pretimeout events, which may be generated by some watchdog devices. A user selects a default watchdog pretimeout governor during compilation stage. Watchdogs with WDIOF_PRETIMEOUT capability now have one more device attribute in sysfs, pretimeout_governor attribute is intended to display the selected watchdog pretimeout governor. The framework has no impact at runtime on watchdog devices with no WDIOF_PRETIMEOUT capability set. ACPI / watchdog: Add support for WDAT hardware watchdog Starting from Intel Skylake the iTCO watchdog timer registers were moved to reside in the same register space with SMBus host controller. Not all needed registers are available though and we need to unhide P2SB (Primary to Sideband) device briefly to be able to read status of required NO_REBOOT bit. The i2c-i801.c SMBus driver used to handle this and creation of the iTCO watchdog platform device. Windows, on the other hand, does not use the iTCO watchdog hardware directly even if it is available. Instead it relies on ACPI Watchdog Action Table (WDAT) table to describe the watchdog hardware to the OS. This table contains necessary information about the the hardware and also set of actions which are executed by a driver as needed. This patch implements a new watchdog driver that takes advantage of the ACPI WDAT table. We split the functionality into two parts: first part enumerates the WDAT table and if found, populates resources and creates platform device for the actual driver. The second part is the driver itself. The reason for the split is that this way we can make the driver itself to be a module and loaded automatically if the WDAT table is found. Watchdog: introduce ARM SBSA watchdog driver According to Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) specification, the SBSA Generic Watchdog has two stage timeouts: the first signal (WS0) is for alerting the system by interrupt, the second one (WS1) is a real hardware reset. More details about the hardware specification of this device: ARM DEN0029B - Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) This driver can operate ARM SBSA Generic Watchdog as a single stage watchdog or a two stages watchdog, it's set up by the module parameter "action". In the single stage mode, when the timeout is reached, your system will be reset by WS1. The first signal (WS0) is ignored. In the two stages mode, when the timeout is reached, the first signal (WS0) will trigger panic. If the system is getting into trouble and cannot be reset by panic or restart properly by the kdump kernel(if supported), then the second stage (as long as the first stage) will be reached, system will be reset by WS1. This function can help administrator to backup the system context info by panic console output or kdump. This driver bases on linux kernel watchdog framework, so it can get timeout from module parameter and FDT at the driver init stage. So the SAMA5D4 watchdog driver's implementation is different from the at91sam9260 watchdog driver implemented in file at91sam9_wdt.c. The user application open the device file to enable the watchdog timer hardware, and close to disable it, and set the watchdog timer timeout by seting WDV and WDD fields of WDT_MR register, and ping the watchdog by issuing WDRSTT command to WDT_CR register with hard-coded key. watchdog: digicolor: driver for Conexant Digicolor CX92755 SoC This commit add a driver for the watchdog functionality of the Conexant CX92755 SoC, from the Digicolor series of SoCs. Of 8 system timers provided by the CX92755, the first one, timer A, can reset the chip when its counter reaches zero. This driver uses this capability to provide userspace with a standard watchdog, using the watchdog timer driver core framework. This driver also implements a reboot handler for the reboot(2) system call. The watchdog driver shares the timer registers with the CX92755 timer driver (drivers/clocksource/timer-digicolor.c). The timer driver, however, uses only timers other than A, so both drivers should coexist. watchdog: delete mpcore_wdt driver Interrupt request doesn't use the right API: The TWD watchdog uses a per-cpu interrupt (usually interrupt #30), and the GIC configuration should flag it as such. With this setup, request_irq() should fail, and the right API is request_percpu_irq(), together with enable_percpu_irq()/disable_percpu_irq(). Nothing ensures the userspace ioctl() will end-up kicking the watchdog on the right CPU. There are no users of this driver since a long time and it makes more sense to get rid of it as nobody is looking to fix it. watchdog: add new driver for STMP3xxx and i.MX23/28 Replace the existing STMP3xxx driver because it has enough drawbacks that a rewrite is apropriate. The new driver is designed to use the watchdog framework which makes it a lot smaller and avoids open coding the watchdog API again. It also uses now an explicitly exported function from the RTC driver to set up its registers (the old driver silently reused the hopefully(!) already remapped RTC registers). Also, this driver is mach independent, while the old one depends on a mach replaced by another one a year ago. Since the user interface is still the standard watchdog API, users don't need to adapt. remove the v850 port Trying to compile the v850 port brings many compile errors, one of them exists since at least kernel 2.6.19. There also seems to be noone willing to bring this port back into a usable state. This patch therefore removes the v850 port. If anyone ever decides to revive the v850 port the code will still be available from older kernels, and it wouldn't be impossible for the port to reenter the kernel if it would become actively maintained again. [WATCHDOG] HP ProLiant WatchDog driver Hp is providing a Hardware WatchDog Timer driver that will only work with the specific HW Timer located in the HP ProLiant iLO 2 ASIC. The iLO 2 HW Timer will generate a Non-maskable Interrupt (NMI) 9 seconds before physically resetting the server, by removing power, so that the event can be logged to the HP Integrated Management Log (IML), a Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM). The logging of the event is performed using the HP ProLiant ROM via an Industry Standard access known as a BIOS Service Directory Entry.
