fbdev: matroxfb ssd1307fb: Switch i2c drivers back to use .probe() After commit b8a1a4cd5a98 ("i2c: Provide a temporary .probe_new() call-back type"), all drivers being converted to .probe_new() and then 03c835f498b5 ("i2c: Switch .probe() to not take an id parameter") convert back to (the new) .probe() to be able to eventually drop .probe_new() from struct i2c_driver. i2c: Make remove callback return void The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. treewide: Remove uninitialized_var() usage Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1] (or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings (e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized, either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes. In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining needless uses with the following script: git grep '\buninitialized_var\b' | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u | \ xargs perl -pi -e \ 's/\buninitialized_var\(([^\)]+)\)/\1/g; s:\s*/\* (GCC be quiet|to make compiler happy) \*/$::g;' drivers/video/fbdev/riva/riva_hw.c was manually tweaked to avoid pathological white-space. No outstanding warnings were found building allmodconfig with GCC 9.3.0 for x86_64, i386, arm64, arm, powerpc, powerpc64le, s390x, mips, sparc64, alpha, and m68k. video: move fbdev to drivers/video/fbdev The drivers/video directory is a mess. It contains generic video related files, directories for backlight, console, linux logo, lots of fbdev device drivers, fbdev framework files. Make some order into the chaos by creating drivers/video/fbdev directory, and move all fbdev related files there. No functionality is changed, although I guess it is possible that some subtle Makefile build order related issue could be created by this patch.
