ucsi_ccg: Refine the UCSI Interrupt handling With the Cypress CCGx Type-C controller the following error is sometimes observed on boot: [ 16.087147] ucsi_ccg 1-0008: failed to reset PPM! [ 16.087319] ucsi_ccg 1-0008: PPM init failed (-110) When the above timeout occurs the following happens: 1. The function ucsi_reset_ppm() is called to reset UCSI controller. This function performs an async write to start reset and then polls for completion. 2. An interrupt occurs when the reset completes. In the interrupt handler, the OPM field in the INTR_REG is cleared and this clears the CCI data in the PPM. Hence, the reset completion status is cleared. 3. The function ucsi_reset_ppm() continues to poll for the reset completion, but has missed the reset completion event and eventually timeouts. In this patch, we store CCI when handling the interrupt and make reading after async write gets the correct value. To align with the CCGx UCSI interface guide, this patch updates the driver to copy CCI and MESSAGE_IN before they are reset when UCSI interrupt acknowledged. When a new command is sent, the driver will clear the old CCI to avoid ucsi_ccg_read() getting wrong CCI after ucsi_ccg_async_write() when the UCSI interrupt is not handled. Finally, acking the UCSI_READ_INT interrupt before calling complete() in ISR to ensure that the ucsi_ccg_sync_write() would wait for the interrupt handling to complete. The device-tree binding for the Cypress CCG device uses the standard device-tree 'firmware-name' string property to indicate the firmware build that is used. i2c: Make remove callback return void The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. ucsi_ccg: Check DEV_INT bit only when starting CCG4 CCGx clears Bit 0:Device Interrupt in the INTR_REG if CCGx is reset successfully. However, there might be a chance that other bits in INTR_REG are not cleared due to internal data queued in PPM. This case misleads the driver that CCGx reset failed. The commit checks bit 0 in INTR_REG and ignores other bits. The ucsi driver would reset PPM later. usb: typec: ucsi_ccg: workaround for NVIDIA test device NVIDIA VirtualLink (svid 0x955) has two altmode, vdo=0x1 for VirtualLink DP mode and vdo=0x3 for NVIDIA test mode. NVIDIA test device FTB (Function Test Board) reports altmode list with vdo=0x3 first and then vdo=0x1. The list is: SVID VDO 0xff01 0xc05 0x28de 0x8085 0x955 0x3 0x955 0x1 Current logic to assign mode value is based on order in altmode list. This causes a mismatch of CON and SOP altmodes since NVIDIA GPU connector has order of vdo=0x1 first and then vdo=0x3. Fixing this by changing the order of vdo values reported by NVIDIA test device. the new list will be: SVID VDO 0xff01 0xc05 0x28de 0x8085 0x955 0x1085 0x955 0x3 Also NVIDIA VirtualLink (svid 0x955) uses pin E for display mode. NVIDIA test device reports vdo of 0x1 so make sure vdo values always have pin E assignement. UCSI specification doesn't prohibits using separate display altmode. Current UCSI Type-C framework expects only one display altmode for all DP pin assignment. This patch squashes two separate display altmode into single altmode to support controllers with separate display altmode. We first read all the alternate modes of connector and then run through it to know if there are separate display altmodes. If so, it prepares a new port altmode set after squashing two or more separate altmodes into one. usb: typec: ucsi: ccg: Remove run_isr flag The "run_isr" flag is used for preventing the driver from calling the interrupt service routine in its runtime resume callback when the driver is expecting completion to a command, but what that basically does is that it hides the real problem. The real problem is that the controller is allowed to suspend in the middle of command execution. As a more appropriate fix for the problem, using autosuspend delay time that matches UCSI_TIMEOUT_MS (5s). That prevents the controller from suspending while still in the middle of executing a command. This fixes a potential deadlock. Both ccg_read() and ccg_write() are called with the mutex already taken at least from ccg_send_command(). In ccg_read() and ccg_write, the mutex is only acquired so that run_isr flag can be set. usb: typec: ucsi: ccg: add runtime pm workaround Cypress USB Type-C CCGx controller firmware version 3.1.10 (which is being used in many NVIDIA GPU cards) has known issue of not triggering interrupt when a USB device is hot plugged to runtime resume the controller. If any GPU card gets latest kernel with runtime pm support but does not get latest fixed firmware then also it should continue to work and therefore a workaround is required to check for any connector change event. The workaround is that i2c bus driver will call pm_request_resume() to runtime resume ucsi_ccg driver. CCG driver will call the ISR for any connector change event for NVIDIA GPU card and only if it has old CCG firmware with the known issue. usb: typec: ucsi: ccg: add firmware flashing support CCGx has two copies of the firmware in addition to the bootloader. If the device is running FW1, FW2 can be updated with the new version. Dual firmware mode allows the CCG device to stay in a PD contract and support USB PD and Type-C functionality while a firmware update is in progress. First we read the currently flashed firmware version of both primary and secondary firmware and then compare it with version of firmware file to determine if flashing is required. Command framework is added to support sending commands to CCGx controller. We wait for response after sending the command and then read the response from RAB_RESPONSE register. Below commands are supported, - ENTER_FLASHING - RESET - PDPORT_ENABLE - JUMP_TO_BOOT - FLASH_ROW_RW - VALIDATE_FW Command specific mutex lock is also added to sync between driver and user threads.
