tty: 8250: Add Brainboxes Oxford Semiconductor-based quirks Some of the later revisions of the Brainboxes PX cards are based on the Oxford Semiconductor chipset. Due to the chip's unique setup these cards need to be initialised. Previously these were tested against a reference card with the same broken baudrate on another PC, cancelling out the effect. With this patch they work and can transfer/receive find against an FTDI-based device. Add all of the cards which require this setup to the quirks table. Thanks to Maciej W. Revert "8250: add support for ASIX devices with a FIFO bug" This reverts commit eb26dfe8aa7eeb5a5aa0b7574550125f8aa4c3b3. Commit eb26dfe8aa7e ("8250: add support for ASIX devices with a FIFO bug") merged on Jul 13, 2012 adds a quirk for PCI_VENDOR_ID_ASIX (0x9710). But that ID is the same as PCI_VENDOR_ID_NETMOS defined in 1f8b061050c7 ("[PATCH] Netmos parallel/serial/combo support") merged on Mar 28, 2005. In pci_serial_quirks array, the NetMos entry always takes precedence over the ASIX entry even since it was initially merged, code in that commit is always unreachable. In my tests, adding the FIFO workaround to pci_netmos_init() makes no difference, and the vendor driver also does not have such workaround. Given that the code was never used for over a decade, it's safe to revert it. Also, the real PCI_VENDOR_ID_ASIX should be 0x125b, which is used on their newer AX99100 PCIe serial controllers released on 2016. The FIFO workaround should not be intended for these newer controllers, and it was never implemented in vendor driver. serial: Deassert Transmit Enable on probe in driver-specific way When a UART port is newly registered, uart_configure_port() seeks to deassert RS485 Transmit Enable by setting the RTS bit in port->mctrl. However a number of UART drivers interpret a set RTS bit as *assertion* instead of deassertion: Affected drivers include those using serial8250_em485_config() (except 8250_bcm2835aux.c) and some using mctrl_gpio (e.g. imx.c). Since the interpretation of the RTS bit is driver-specific, it is not suitable as a means to centrally deassert Transmit Enable in the serial core. Instead, the serial core must call on drivers to deassert it in their driver-specific way. One way to achieve that is to call ->rs485_config(). It implicitly deasserts Transmit Enable. So amend uart_configure_port() and uart_resume_port() to invoke uart_rs485_config(). That allows removing calls to uart_rs485_config() from drivers' ->probe() hooks and declaring the function static. Skip any invocation of ->set_mctrl() if RS485 is enabled. RS485 has no hardware flow control, so the modem control lines are irrelevant and need not be touched. When leaving RS485 mode, reset the modem control lines to the state stored in port->mctrl. That way, UARTs which are muxed between RS485 and RS232 transceivers drive the lines correctly when switched to RS232. (serial8250_do_startup() historically raises the OUT1 modem signal because otherwise interrupts are not signaled on ancient PC UARTs, but I believe that no longer applies to modern, RS485-capable UARTs and is thus safe to be skipped.) imx.c modifies port->mctrl whenever Transmit Enable is asserted and deasserted. Stop it from doing that so port->mctrl reflects the RS232 line state. 8250_omap.c deasserts Transmit Enable on ->runtime_resume() by calling ->set_mctrl(). Because that is now a no-op in RS485 mode, amend the function to call serial8250_em485_stop_tx(). fsl_lpuart.c retrieves and applies the RS485 device tree properties after registering the UART port. Because applying now happens on registration in uart_configure_port(), move retrieval of the properties ahead of uart_add_one_port(). Otherwise the prescaler is fixed at 1 causing grossly incorrect baud rates to be programmed. serial: Add uart_rs485_config() A few serial drivers make a call to rs485_config() themselves (all these seem to relate to init). Convert them all to use a common helper which makes it easy to make adjustments on tasks related to it as serial_rs485 struct sanitization is going to be added. In pci_fintek_setup() (in 8250_pci.c), the rs485_config() call was made with NULL, however, it can be changed to pass uart_port's rs485 struct. No other callers should pass NULL into rs485_config() so the NULL check can now be eliminated. serial: 8250: Add proper clock handling for OxSemi PCIe devices Oxford Semiconductor PCIe (Tornado) 950 serial port devices are driven by a fixed 62.5MHz clock input derived from the 100MHz PCI Express clock. We currently drive the device using its default oversampling rate of 16 and the clock prescaler disabled, consequently yielding the baud base of 3906250. This base is inadequate for some of the high-speed baud rates such as 460800bps, for which the closest rate possible can be obtained by dividing the baud base by 8, yielding the baud rate of 488281.25bps, which is off by 5.9638%. This is enough for data communication to break with the remote end talking actual 460800bps, where missed stop bits have been observed. We can do better however, by taking advantage of a reduced oversampling rate, which can be set to any integer value from 4 to 16 inclusive by programming the TCR register, and by using the clock prescaler, which can be set to any value from 1 to 63.875 in increments of 0.125 in the CPR/CPR2 register pair. The prescaler has to be explicitly enabled though by setting bit 7 in the MCR or otherwise it is bypassed (in the enhanced mode that we enable) as if the value of 1 was used. Make use of these features then as follows: - Set the baud base to 15625000, reflecting the minimum oversampling rate of 4 with the clock prescaler and divisor both set to 1. - Override the `set_mctrl' and set the MCR shadow there so as to have MCR[7] always set and have the 8250 core propagate these settings. - Override the `get_divisor' handler and determine a good combination of parameters by using a lookup table with predetermined value pairs of the oversampling rate and the clock prescaler and finding a pair that divides the input clock such that the quotient, when rounded to the nearest integer, deviates the least from the exact result. Calculate the clock divisor accordingly. Scale the resulting oversampling rate (only by powers of two) if possible so as to maximise it, reducing the divisor accordingly, and avoid a divisor overflow for very low baud rates by scaling the oversampling rate and/or the prescaler even if that causes some accuracy loss. Also handle the historic spd_cust feature so as to allow one to set all the three parameters manually to arbitrary values, by keeping the low 16 bits for the divisor and then putting TCR in bits 19:16 and CPR/CPR2 in bits 28:20, sanitising the bit pattern supplied such as to clamp CPR/CPR2 values between 0.000 and 0.875 inclusive to 33.875. This preserves compatibility with any existing setups, that is where requesting a custom divisor that only has any bits set among the low 16 the oversampling rate of 16 and the clock prescaler of 33.875 will be used as with the original 8250. Finally abuse the `frac' argument to store the determined bit patterns for the TCR, CPR and CPR2 registers. - Override the `set_divisor' handler so as to set the TCR, CPR and CPR2 registers from the `frac' value supplied. Set the divisor as usual. With the baud base set to 15625000 and the unsigned 16-bit UART_DIV_MAX limitation imposed by `serial8250_get_baud_rate' standard baud rates below 300bps become unavailable in the regular way, e.g. the rate of 200bps requires the baud base to be divided by 78125 and that is beyond the unsigned 16-bit range. serial: 8250: Report which option to enable for blacklisted PCI devices Provide information in the kernel log as to what configuration option to enable for PCI UART devices that have been blacklisted in the generic PCI 8250 UART driver and which have a dedicated driver available to handle that has been disabled. The rationale is there is no easy way for the user to map a specific PCI vendor:device pair to an individual dedicated driver while the generic driver has this information readily available and it will likely be confusing that the generic driver does not register such a port. This is unlike usual drivers, such as drivers/net/ethernet/3com/3c59x.c which handles all the hardware family members regardless of differences between them, and following an existing example where a serio driver provides suggestions as to the correct configuration options to use: psmouse serio1: synaptics: The touchpad can support a better bus than the too old PS/2 protocol. Make sure MOUSE_PS2_SYNAPTICS_SMBUS and RMI4_SMB are enabled to get a better touchpad experience. A message is then printed like: serial 0000:04:00.3: ignoring port, enable SERIAL_8250_PERICOM to handle when an affected device is encountered and the generic driver rejects it. serial: 8250_pci: Prefer struct_size over open coded arithmetic As noted in the "Deprecated Interfaces, Language Features, Attributes, and Conventions" documentation [1], size calculations (especially multiplication) should not be performed in memory allocator (or similar) function arguments due to the risk of them overflowing. This could lead to values wrapping around and a smaller allocation being made than the caller was expecting. Using those allocations could lead to linear overflows of heap memory and other misbehaviors. So, use the struct_size() helper to do the arithmetic instead of the argument "size + size * count" in the kzalloc() function. This attempts to fix a bug found with a serial port card which uses an MCS9922 chip, one of the 4 models for which MSI-X interrupts are currently supported. I don't possess such a card, and i'm not experienced with the serial subsystem, so this patch is based on what i think i found as a likely reason for failure, based on walking the user who actually owns the card through some diagnostic. With this setup, data reception works very unreliable, with dropped data, already at a transmission rate of only a 16 Bytes chunk every 1/120th of a second, ie. 1920 Bytes/sec, presumably due to rx fifo overflow due to mishandled or not used at all rx irq's? This comes from the reset values of the TCR and MCR[7] registers which are both zero[1][2][3][4], choosing the oversampling rate of 16 and the normal (divide by 1) baud rate generator prescaler respectively. This is the rate that is divided by the value held in the divisor latch to determine the baud rate used. Replace the incorrect baud base of 4000000 with the right value of 3906250 then. Because these have 3 BARs, they fail the "num_iomem <= 1" check in serial_pci_guess_board. I've manually checked the two IOMEM regions and BAR 2 doesn't seem to respond to reads, but BAR 4 seems to be an MMIO version of the IO ports (untested). serial: 8250_pci: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array member The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. Revert "serial/8250: Add support for NI-Serial PXI/PXIe+485 devices" This reverts commit fdc2de87124f5183a98ea7eced1f76dbdba22951 ("serial/8250: Add support for NI-Serial PXI/PXIe+485 devices"). The commit fdc2de87124f ("serial/8250: Add support for NI-Serial PXI/PXIe+485 devices") introduced a breakage on NI-Serial PXI(e)-RS485 devices, RS-232 variants have no issue. The Linux system can enumerate the NI-Serial PXI(e)-RS485 devices, but it broke the R/W operation on the ports. However, the implementation is working on the NI internal Linux RT kernel but it does not work in the Linux main tree kernel. This is only affecting NI products, specifically the RS-485 variants. Reverting the upstream until a proper implementation that can apply to both NI internal Linux kernel and Linux mainline kernel is figured out. serial: 8250_pci: Implement MSI(-X) support There may be setups, where legacy interrupts are not available. This is the caese, e.g., when Linux runs as guest (aka. non-root cell) of the partitioning hypervisor Jailhouse. There, only MSI(-X) interrupts are available for guests. But the 8250_pci driver currently only supports legacy ints. So let's enable MSI(-X) interrupts. Nevertheless, this needs to handled with care: while many 8250 devices actually claim to support MSI(-X) interrupts it should not be enabled be default. I had at least one device in my hands with broken MSI implementation. So better introduce a whitelist with devices that are known to support MSI(-X) interrupts. I tested all devices mentioned in the patch. serial: 8250_pci: Enable device after we check black list If the board we are guessing has been listed in black list we don't need to enable it twice. The associated driver, if any, will take care about proper initialization. To achieve this we split out two helper functions, i.e. serial_pci_is_class_communication() and serial_pci_is_blacklisted() which will be called before pcim_enable_device(). We can do this since PCI specification requires class, device and vendor ID registers to be always present in the configuration space. With the required refactoring of the code to fit into 8250_exar, we automatically fix the same issue pci_xr17v35x_setup had before: 8XMODE, FCTL, TXTRG and RXTRG were always only set for port 0. Now they are initialized for the correct target port by using port.membase. Now we can also cleanly fix the blacklist of 8250_pci so that all Commtech devices are rejected and 8250_exar can handle them. The first 4 ports are implemented by an OX16PCI954 chip, and the second 4 ports are implemented by an OX16C954 chip on a local bus, bridged by the second PCI function of the OX16PCI954. The ports are jumper-selectable as RS-232 and RS-422/485, and the UARTs use a non-standard oscillator frequency of 20 MHz (base_baud = 1250000). 8250_pci: Fix potential use-after-free in error path Commit f209fa03fc9d ("serial: 8250_pci: Detach low-level driver during PCI error recovery") introduces a potential use-after-free in case the pciserial_init_ports call in serial8250_io_resume fails, which may happen if a memory allocation fails or if the .init quirk failed for whatever reason). If this happen, further pci_get_drvdata will return a pointer to freed memory. This patch reworks the PCI recovery resume hook to restore the old priv structure in this case, which should be ok, since the ports were already detached. Such error during recovery causes us to give up on the recovery. serial: 8250_pci: Detach low-level driver during PCI error recovery During a PCI error recovery, like the ones provoked by EEH in the ppc64 platform, all IO to the device must be blocked while the recovery is completed. Current 8250_pci implementation only suspends the port instead of detaching it, which doesn't prevent incoming accesses like TIOCMGET and TIOCMSET calls from reaching the device. Those end up racing with the EEH recovery, crashing it. Similar races were also observed when opening the device and when shutting it down during recovery. This patch implements a more robust IO blockage for the 8250_pci recovery by unregistering the port at the beginning of the procedure and re-adding it afterwards. Since the port is detached from the uart layer, we can be sure that no request will make through to the device during recovery. This is similar to the solution used by the JSM serial driver. I had a problem using Fourth port on a pci express serial board based on Pericom PI7C9X7954. Reading datasheet I notice a "special" offset assign to this port when used in I/O mode. Offset 0x0 -> UART 0 Offset 0x8 -> UART 1 Offset 0x10 -> UART 2 Offset 0x38 -> UART 3 <<---- This don't follow a logical sequence This patch add a different init to last port, to have right offset. I check also Pericom 7952 and 7958 but that devices follow logical sequence, so they are ok. serial: 8250_lpss: split LPSS driver to separate module The SoCs, such as Intel Braswell, have DesignWare UART IP. Split out the support of such chips to a separate module which also will be used for Intel Quark later. The rationale to have the separate driver to be existing: - Do not contaminate 8250_pci.c anymore with LPSS related quirks - All of them are using same DMA engine and they are Designware IP which means that in the future we might share the code between 8250_dw.c and 8250_lpss.c - It reduces the kernel memory footprint on non-X86 machines where 8250_pci.c is in use Besides the split the driver also has been refactored, in particular a) the DMA and port setup are separate functions, b) the two new structures lpss8250 and lpss8250_board are introduced to keep necessary data instead of pciserial_board, c) DMA parameters are passed to the DMA setup via mentioned custom structure. Most of the changes are done due to the future support of UART DMA on Intel Quark. The Intel Quark UART DMA support is based on bits taking from BSP code published by Intel earlier. The driver does not use any specific power management. PCI core takes care of the default behaviour during suspend and resume. dmaengine: dw: rename masters to reflect actual topology The source and destination masters are reflecting buses or their layers to where the different devices can be connected. The patch changes the master names to reflect which one is related to which independently on the transfer direction. The outcome of the change is that the memory data width is now always limited by a data width of the master which is dedicated to communicate to memory. The patch will not break anything since all current users have the same data width for all masters. Though it would be nice to revisit avr32 platforms to check what is the actual hardware topology in use there. It seems that it has one bus and two masters on it as stated by Table 8-2, that's why everything works independently on the master in use. The purpose of the sequential patch is to fix the driver for configuration of more than one bus. The change is done in the assumption that src_master and dst_master are reflecting a connection to the memory and peripheral correspondently on avr32 and otherwise on the rest. serial: 8250_pci: Intel MID UART support to its own driver Intel MID UART quirks require already quite a bit of code in 8250_pci.c. On new Intel platforms where it is used, the integrated DMA engine no longer has its own PCI device, but is instead configured from the UART's MMIO. That means we will have to add even more code for handling just MID UARTs. Instead of adding that to 8250_pci.c, splitting the support of Intel MID UART into its own driver. Handling of the integrated DMA engine becomes much simpler this way. Own driver will also remove the need for things like specific set_termios hooks for every board using this UART, and simplify the handling of it in general. One is pci_fintek_init(), if it called when first init, it will write mode register with 0x01. If it called from S3/S4 resume, it's will get the relative port data and pass it to pci_fintek_rs485_config() with NULL rs485 parameter. The another modification is in pci_fintek_rs485_config(). Therefor one chip is configured as master the second as slave by connecting the mode pin to VCC (master) or GND (slave). Then the master chip is reporting a different device-id depending on whether a slave is detected or not. The UARTs 8-15 are addressed from 0x2000-0x3fff. So the offset of 0x400 from UART to UART can be used to address all 16 ports as before. serial: 8250: don't use slave_id of dma_slave_config That field has been deprecated in favour of getting the necessary information from ACPI or DT. However, we still need to deal systems that are PCI only (no ACPI to back up) like Intel Bay Trail. In order to support such systems, we explicitly bind setup() to the appropriate DMA filter function and its corresponding parameter. Then when serial8250_request_dma() doesn't find the channel via ACPI or DT, it falls back to use the given filter function. serial: 8250_pci: Add WCH CH352 quirk to avoid Xscale detection The code in 8250.c for detecting ARM/XScale UARTs says: * Try writing and reading the UART_IER_UUE bit (b6). * If it works, this is probably one of the Xscale platform's * internal UARTs. If the above passes, it then goes on to: * It's an Xscale. * We'll leave the UART_IER_UUE bit set to 1 (enabled). However, the CH352 uses the UART_IER_UUE as the LOWPOWER function, so it is readable and writable. According to the datasheet: "LOWPOWER:When the bit is 1, close the internal benchmark clock of serial port to set into low-power status. So it essentially gets mis-detected as Xscale, and gets powered down in the process. The device in question where this was seen is listed by lspci as: Serial controller: Device 4348:3253 (rev 10) (prog-if 02 [16550]) Re-using the 353 quirk which just sets flags to fixed and type to 16550 is suitable for fixing the 352 as well. Fix 4 port and add support for 8 port 'Unknown' PCI serial port cards I've managed to find an 8 port version of the card 4 port card which was discussed here: http://marc.info/?l=linux-serial&m=120760744205314&w=2 Looking back at that thread there were two issues in the original patch. 1) The I/O ports for the UARTs are within BAR2 not BAR0. This can been seen in the original post. 2) A serial quirk isn't needed as these cards have no memory in BAR0 which makes pci_plx9050_init just return. 8250/16?50: Add support for Broadcom TruManage redirected serial port Add support for the UART device present in Broadcom TruManage capable NetXtreme chips (ie: 5761m 5762, and 5725). This implementation has a hidden transmit FIFO, so running in single-byte interrupt mode results in too many interrupts. The UART_CAP_HFIFO capability was added to track this. It continues to reload the THR as long as the THRE and TSRE bits are set in the LSR up to a specified limit (1024 is used here). x86: ce4100: allow second UART usage The current CE4100 and 8250_pci code have both a limitation preventing the registration and usage of CE4100's second UART. This patch changes the platform code fixing up the UART port to work on a relative UART port base address, as well as the 8250_pci code to make it register 2 UART ports for CE4100 and pass the port index down to all consumers. parport_serial: Add support for the WCH353 2S/1P multi-IO card To allow parport_serial to handle the card the same PCI ids are blacklisted in 8250_pci.c using the existing software blacklist mechanism. The blacklist array is also renamed because it now covers this new use case. Since the two serial ports are auto-detected as XScale instead of 16550A clones, we also add a quirk to 8250_pci.c to skip autodetection and set the correct port type. 8250: add support for ASIX devices with a FIFO bug Information and a different patch provided by <donald@asix.com.tw>. We do it a little differently to keep the modularity and to avoid playing with RLSI. We add a new uart bug for the parity flaw and set it in the pci matches. If parity check is enabled then we drop the FIFO trigger to 1 as per the Asix reference code. serial/8250_pci: Clear FIFOs for Intel ME Serial Over Lan device on BI When using Serial Over Lan (SOL) over the virtual serial port in a Intel management engine (ME) device, on device reset the serial FIFOs need to be cleared to keep the FIFO indexes in-sync between the host and the engine. On a reset the serial device assertes BI, so using that as a cue FIFOs are cleared. So for this purpose a new handle_break callback has been added. One other problem is that the serial registers might temporarily go to 0 on reset of this device. So instead of using the IER register read, if 0 returned use the ier value in uart_8250_port. This is hidden under a custom serial_in. serial/8250_pci: add a "force background timer" flag and use it for the "kt" serial port Workaround dropped notifications in the iir register. Register reads coincident with new interrupt notifications sometimes result in this device clearing the interrupt event without reporting it in the read data. The serial core already has a heuristic for determining when a device has an untrustworthy iir register. In this case when we apriori know that the iir is faulty use a flag (UPF_BUG_THRE) to bypass the test and force usage of the background timer. Revert "serial/8250_pci: setup-quirk workaround for the kt serial controller" This reverts commit 448ac154c957c4580531fa0c8f2045816fe2f0e7. The semantic of UPF_IIR_ONCE is only guaranteed to workaround the race condition in the kt serial's iir register if the only source of interrupts is THRE (fifo-empty) events. An modem status event at the wrong time can again cause an iir read to drop the 'empty' status leading to a hang. So, revert this in preparation for using the existing "I don't trust my iir register" workaround in the 8250 core (UART_BUG_THRE). Revert "serial/8250_pci: init-quirk msi support for kt serial controller" This reverts commit e86ff4a63c9fdd875ba8492577cd1ad2252f525c. This tried to enforce the semantics of one interrupt per iir read of the THRE (transmit-hold empty) status, but events from other sources (particularly modem status) defeat this guarantee. This change also broke 8250_pci suspend/resume support as pciserial_resume_ports() re-runs .init() quirks, but does not run .exit() quirks in pciserial_suspend_ports() leading to reports like: sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:16.3/msi_irqs' ...and a subsequent crash. The mismatch of init/exit at suspend/resume seems like a bug in its own right. serial: group all the 8250 related code together The drivers/tty/serial dir is already getting rather busy. Relocate the 8250 related drivers to their own subdir to reduce the clutter. Note that sunsu.c is not included in this move -- it is 8250-like hardware, but it does not use any of the existing infrastructure -- and does not depend on SERIAL_8250.
