# 05cbcc41 06-Mar-2023 Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com>

staging: rtl8723bs: Fix key-store index handling

There are 2 issues with the key-store index handling

1. The non WEP key stores can store keys with indexes 0 - BIP_MAX_KEYID,
this means that they should be an array with BIP_MAX_KEYID + 1
entries. But some of the arrays where just BIP_MAX_KEYID entries
big. While one other array was hardcoded to a size of 6 entries,
instead of using the BIP_MAX_KEYID define.

2. The rtw_cfg80211_set_encryption() and wpa_set_encryption() functions
index check where checking that the passed in key-index would fit
inside both the WEP key store (which only has 4 entries) as well as
in the non WEP key stores. This breaks any attempts to set non WEP
keys with index 4 or 5.

Issue 2. specifically breaks wifi connection with some access points
which advertise PMF support. Without this fix connecting to these
access points fails with the following wpa_supplicant messages:

nl80211: kernel reports: key addition failed
wlan0: WPA: Failed to configure IGTK to the driver
wlan0: RSN: Failed to configure IGTK
wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=... reason=1 locally_generated=1

Fix 1. by using the right size for the key-stores. After this 2. can
safely be fixed by checking the right max-index value depending on the
used algorithm, fixing wifi not working with some PMF capable APs.

*** DEADLOCK ***

Push the taking of sta_hash_lock down into rtw_free_stainfo(),
where the critical section is, this allows taking the lock after
rtw_free_stainfo() has released pxmitpriv->lock.

This requires changing rtw_free_all_stainfo() so that it does its freeing
in 2 steps, first moving all stainfo-s to free to a local list while
holding the sta_hash_lock and then walking that list to call
rtw_free_stainfo() on them without holding the sta_hash_lock.

Pushing the taking of sta_hash_lock down into rtw_free_stainfo(),
also fixes a whole bunch of callers of rtw_free_stainfo() which
were not holding that lock even though they should.

Note that this also fixes the deadlock from the "remove possible
deadlock when disconnect" patch in a different way. But the
changes from that patch offer a nice locking cleanup regardless.

staging: rtlwifi: use siocdevprivate

rtl8188eu has an "android private" ioctl command multiplexer
that is not currently safe for use in compat mode because
of its triple-indirect pointer.

rtl8723bs uses a different interface on the SIOCDEVPRIVATE
command, based on the iwpriv data structure

Both also have normal unreachable iwpriv commands, and all
of the above should probably just get removed. For the
moment, just switch over to the new interface.

staging: rtl8723bs: avoid bogus gcc warning

gcc gets confused by some of the type casts and produces an
apparently senseless warning about an out-of-bound memcpy to
an unrelated array in the same structure:

This is a known gcc bug, and the patch here is only a workaround,
but the approach of using a temporary variable to hold a pointer
to the key also improves readability in addition to avoiding the
warning, so overall this should still help.

staging: rtl8723bs: replace DBG_871X_LEVEL logs with netdev_*()

Replace DBG_871X_LEVEL logs with netdev_*() functions
where possible (i.e. where a pointer to netdev is easily

This is not possible in correspondance of redundant

DBG_871X_LEVEL macro wraps a raw printk call which is not
recommended in a device driver context, prefer using

staging: rtl8723bs: Remove unneeded goto statements

In routines rtw_hostapd_ioctl() and wpa_supplicant_ioctl(), several

staging: rtl8723bs: Fix potential security hole

In routine rtw_hostapd_ioctl(), the user-controlled p->length is assumed
to be at least the size of struct ieee_param size, but this assumption is
never checked. This could result in out-of-bounds read/write on kernel
heap in case a p->length less than the size of struct ieee_param is
specified by the user. If p->length is allowed to be greater than the size
of the struct, then a malicious user could be wasting kernel memory.

staging: rtl8723bs: os_dep: ioctl_linux: make use of kzalloc

This patch is a cleanup which replaces rtw_malloc(wep_total_len) with
kzalloc() and removes the memset().

The rtw_malloc() does GFP_ATOMIC allocations when in_atomic() is true.
But as the comments for in_atomic() describe, the in_atomic() check
should not be used in driver code. The in_atomic() check is not
accurate when preempt is disabled.

In this code we are not in IRQ context and we are not holding any
spin_locks so GFP_KERNEL is safe.

drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/os_dep/rtw_proc.c:762:25: error: unused variable 'drv_proc' [-Werror=unused-variable]

The problem is that the code procfs code gets built even when CONFIG_PROC_FS
is disabled, but some functions are turned into empty stubs then. This
is easily addressed by adding an #ifdef around the definition of the
CONFIG_PROC_DEBUG macro.

However, I could not bear looking at the macro name that clashes with the
Kconfig name space, so I also renamed it to simply PROC_DEBUG, along with
the other rtl8723bs specific CONFIG_DEBUG_* macros that I renamed the same
way. This is consistent with how we handle the same checks in the non-staging
rtlwifi driver.

As the code path for !CONFIG_PROC_DEBUG had not been tested properly, it
turned out to be incorrect and requires adding 'static inline' annotations
for the stub handlers, and moving some variables around.

drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/os_dep/ioctl_cfg80211.c:3547 rtw_wdev_alloc() info: ignoring unreachable code.

The indenting warnings were fixed by simple white space changes.

The section where 'scanned' could be null required an immediate exit from
the routine at that point. A similar fix was required where 'skb' could be null.

The two buffer overflow errors were caused by off-by-one errors. While
locating these problems, another one was found in os_dep/ioctl_linux.c.

# 554c0a3a 29-Mar-2017 Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com>

staging: Add rtl8723bs sdio wifi driver

The rtl8723bs is found on quite a few systems used by Linux users,
such as on Atom systems (Intel Computestick and various other
Atom based devices) and on many (budget) ARM boards such as
the CHIP.

The plan moving forward with this is for the new clean,
written from scratch, rtl8xxxu driver to eventually gain
support for sdio devices. But there is no clear timeline
for that, so lets add this driver included in staging for now.
