Meanwhile what is currently implemented defines 10/100/1000 link speeds for all IP-cores, which is definitely incorrect for DW MAC100, DW XGMAC and DW XLGMAC devices. Seeing the flow-control is implemented as a callback for each MAC IP-core (see dwmac100_flow_ctrl(), dwmac1000_flow_ctrl(), sun8i_dwmac_flow_ctrl(), etc) and since the MAC-specific setup() method is supposed to be called for each available DW MAC-based device, the capabilities initialization can be freely moved to these setup() functions, thus correctly setting up the MAC-capabilities for each IP-core (including the Allwinner Sun8i). A new stmmac_link::caps field was specifically introduced for that so to have all link-specific info preserved in a single structure. Note the suggested change fixes three earlier commits at a time. The commit 5b0d7d7da64b ("net: stmmac: Add the missing speeds that XGMAC supports") permitted the 10-100 link speeds and 1G half-duplex mode for DW XGMAC IP-core even though it doesn't support them. The commit df7699c70c1b ("net: stmmac: Do not cut down 1G modes") incorrectly added the MAC1000 capability to the DW MAC100 IP-core. Similarly to the DW XGMAC the commit 8a880936e902 ("net: stmmac: Add XLGMII support") incorrectly permitted the 10-100 link speeds and 1G half-duplex mode for DW XLGMAC IP-core. net: stmmac: protect updates of 64-bit statistics counters As explained by a comment in <linux/u64_stats_sync.h>, write side of struct u64_stats_sync must ensure mutual exclusion, or one seqcount update could be lost on 32-bit platforms, thus blocking readers forever. Such lockups have been observed in real world after stmmac_xmit() on one CPU raced with stmmac_napi_poll_tx() on another CPU. To fix the issue without introducing a new lock, split the statics into three parts: 1. fields updated only under the tx queue lock, 2. fields updated only during NAPI poll, 3. fields updated only from interrupt context, Updates to fields in the first two groups are already serialized through other locks. It is sufficient to split the existing struct u64_stats_sync so that each group has its own. Note that tx_set_ic_bit is updated from both contexts. Split this counter so that each context gets its own, and calculate their sum to get the total value in stmmac_get_ethtool_stats(). For the third group, multiple interrupts may be processed by different CPUs at the same time, but interrupts on the same CPU will not nest. Move fields from this group to a newly created per-cpu struct stmmac_pcpu_stats. net: stmmac: increase TX coalesce timer to 5ms Commit 8fce33317023 ("net: stmmac: Rework coalesce timer and fix multi-queue races") decreased the TX coalesce timer from 40ms to 1ms. This caused some performance regression on some target (regression was reported at least on ipq806x) in the order of 600mbps dropping from gigabit handling to only 200mbps. The problem was identified in the TX timer getting armed too much time. While this was fixed and improved in another commit, performance can be improved even further by increasing the timer delay a bit moving from 1ms to 5ms. The value is a good balance between battery saving by prevending too much interrupt to be generated and permitting good performance for internet oriented devices. net: stmmac: use per-queue 64 bit statistics where necessary Currently, there are two major issues with stmmac driver statistics First of all, statistics in stmmac_extra_stats, stmmac_rxq_stats and stmmac_txq_stats are 32 bit variables on 32 bit platforms. This can cause some stats to overflow after several minutes of high traffic, for example rx_pkt_n, tx_pkt_n and so on. Secondly, if HW supports multiqueues, there are frequent cacheline ping pongs on some driver statistic vars, for example, normal_irq_n, tx_pkt_n and so on. What's more, frequent cacheline ping pongs on normal_irq_n happens in ISR, this makes the situation worse. To improve the driver, we convert those statistics to 64 bit, implement ndo_get_stats64 and update .get_ethtool_stats implementation accordingly. We also use per-queue statistics where necessary to remove the cacheline ping pongs as much as possible to make multiqueue operations faster. Those statistics which are not possible to overflow and not frequently updated are kept as is. net: stmmac: dwmac-sogfpga: use the lynx pcs driver dwmac_socfpga re-implements support for the TSE PCS, which is identical to the already existing TSE PCS, which in turn is the same as the Lynx PCS. Drop the existing TSE re-implemenation and use the Lynx PCS instead, relying on the regmap-mdio driver to translate MDIO accesses into mmio accesses. Add a lynx_pcs reference in the stmmac's internal structure, and use .mac_select_pcs() to return the relevant PCS to be used. net: stmmac: don't reject VLANs when IFF_PROMISC is set The blamed commit has introduced the following tests to dwmac4_add_hw_vlan_rx_fltr(), called from stmmac_vlan_rx_add_vid(): if (hw->promisc) { netdev_err(dev, "Adding VLAN in promisc mode not supported\n"); return -EPERM; } "VLAN promiscuous" mode is keyed in this driver to IFF_PROMISC, and so, vlan_vid_add() and vlan_vid_del() calls cannot take place in IFF_PROMISC mode. I have the following 2 arguments that this restriction is.... hm, how shall I put it nicely... unproductive :) First, take the case of a Linux bridge. If the kernel is compiled with CONFIG_BRIDGE_VLAN_FILTERING=y, then this bridge shall have a VLAN database. The bridge shall try to call vlan_add_vid() on its bridge ports for each VLAN in the VLAN table. It will do this irrespectively of whether that port is *currently* VLAN-aware or not. So it will do this even when the bridge was created with vlan_filtering 0. But the Linux bridge, in VLAN-unaware mode, configures its ports in promiscuous (IFF_PROMISC) mode, so that they accept packets with any MAC DA (a switch must do this in order to forward those packets which are not directly targeted to its MAC address). Some switch tagging protocols are based on 802.1Q VLANs (tag_sja1105.c), and as such, tag_8021q.c uses vlan_vid_add() to work with VLAN-filtering DSA masters. But also, when a DSA port becomes promiscuous (for example when it joins a bridge), the DSA framework also makes the DSA master promiscuous. Moreover, for every VLAN that a DSA switch sends to the CPU, DSA also programs a VLAN filter on the DSA master, because if the the DSA switch uses a tail tag, then the hardware frame parser of the DSA master will see VLAN as VLAN, and might filter them out, for being unknown. Due to the above 2 reasons, my belief is that the stmmac driver does not get to choose to not accept vlan_vid_add() calls while IFF_PROMISC is enabled, because the 2 are completely independent and there are code paths in the network stack which directly lead to this situation occurring, without the user's direct input. In fact, my belief is that "VLAN promiscuous" mode should have never been keyed on IFF_PROMISC in the first place, but rather, on the NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_FILTER feature flag which can be toggled by the user through ethtool -k, when present in netdev->hw_features. In the stmmac driver, NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_FILTER is only present in "features", making this feature "on [fixed]". I have this belief because I am unaware of any definition of promiscuity which implies having an effect on anything other than MAC DA (therefore not VLAN). However, I seem to be rather alone in having this opinion, looking back at the disagreements from this discussion: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/20201110153958.ci5ekor3o2ekg3ky@ipetronik.com/ In any case, to remove the vlan_vid_add() dependency on !IFF_PROMISC, one would need to remove the check and see what fails. I guess the test was there because of the way in which dwmac4_vlan_promisc_enable() is implemented. For context, the dwmac4 supports Perfect Filtering for a limited number of VLANs - dwmac4_get_num_vlan(), priv->hw->num_vlan, with a fallback on Hash Filtering - priv->dma_cap.vlhash - see stmmac_vlan_update(), also visible in cat /sys/kernel/debug/stmmaceth/eth0/dma_cap | grep 'VLAN Hash Filtering'. The perfect filtering is based on MAC_VLAN_Tag_Filter/MAC_VLAN_Tag_Data registers, accessed in the driver through dwmac4_write_vlan_filter(). The hash filtering is based on the MAC_VLAN_Hash_Table register, named GMAC_VLAN_HASH_TABLE in the driver and accessed by dwmac4_update_vlan_hash(). The control bit for enabling hash filtering is GMAC_VLAN_VTHM (MAC_VLAN_Tag_Ctrl bit VTHM: VLAN Tag Hash Table Match Enable). Now, the description of dwmac4_vlan_promisc_enable() is that it iterates through the driver's cache of perfect filter entries (hw->vlan_filter[i], added by dwmac4_add_hw_vlan_rx_fltr()), and evicts them from hardware by unsetting their GMAC_VLAN_TAG_DATA_VEN (MAC_VLAN_Tag_Data bit VEN - VLAN Tag Enable) bit. Then it unsets the GMAC_VLAN_VTHM bit, which disables hash matching. This leaves the MAC, according to table "VLAN Match Status" from the documentation, to always enter these data paths: VID |VLAN Perfect Filter |VTHM Bit |VLAN Hash Filter |Final VLAN Match |Match Result | |Match Result |Status -------|--------------------|---------|-----------------|---------------- VID!=0 |Fail |0 |don't care |Pass So, dwmac4_vlan_promisc_enable() does its job, but by unsetting GMAC_VLAN_VTHM, it conflicts with the other code path which controls this bit: dwmac4_update_vlan_hash(), called through stmmac_update_vlan_hash() from stmmac_vlan_rx_add_vid() and from stmmac_vlan_rx_kill_vid(). This is, I guess, why dwmac4_add_hw_vlan_rx_fltr() is not allowed to run after dwmac4_vlan_promisc_enable() has unset GMAC_VLAN_VTHM: because if it did, then dwmac4_update_vlan_hash() would set GMAC_VLAN_VTHM again, breaking the "VLAN promiscuity". It turns out that dwmac4_vlan_promisc_enable() is way too complicated for what needs to be done. The MAC_Packet_Filter register also has the VTFE bit (VLAN Tag Filter Enable), which simply controls whether VLAN tagged packets which don't match the filtering tables (either perfect or hash) are dropped or not. At the moment, this driver unconditionally sets GMAC_PACKET_FILTER_VTFE if NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_FILTER was detected through the priv->dma_cap.vlhash capability bits of the device, in stmmac_dvr_probe(). I would suggest deleting the unnecessarily complex logic from dwmac4_vlan_promisc_enable(), and simply unsetting GMAC_PACKET_FILTER_VTFE when becoming IFF_PROMISC, which has the same effect of allowing packets with any VLAN tags, but has the additional benefit of being able to run concurrently with stmmac_vlan_rx_add_vid() and stmmac_vlan_rx_kill_vid(). As much as I believe that the VTFE bit should have been exclusively controlled by NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_FILTER through ethtool, and not by IFF_PROMISC, changing that is not a punctual fix to the problem, and it would probably break the VFFQ feature added by the later commit e0f9956a3862 ("net: stmmac: Add option for VLAN filter fail queue enable"). From the commit description, VFFQ needs IFF_PROMISC=on and VTFE=off in order to work (and this change respects that). But if VTFE was changed to be controlled through ethtool -k, then a user-visible change would have been introduced in Intel's scripts (a need to run "ethtool -k eth0 rx-vlan-filter off" which did not exist before). net: stmmac: Fix for mismatched host/device DMA address width Currently DMA address width is either read from a RO device register or force set from the platform data. This breaks DMA when the host DMA address width is <=32it but the device is >32bit. Right now the driver may decide to use a 2nd DMA descriptor for another buffer (happens in case of TSO xmit) assuming that 32bit addressing is used due to platform configuration but the device will still use both descriptor addresses as one address. This can be observed with the Intel EHL platform driver that sets 32bit for addr64 but the MAC reports 40bit. The TX queue gets stuck in case of TCP with iptables NAT configuration on TSO packets. The logic should be like this: Whatever we do on the host side (memory allocation GFP flags) should happen with the host DMA width, whenever we decide how to set addresses on the device registers we must use the device DMA address width. This patch renames the platform address width field from addr64 (term used in device datasheet) to host_addr and uses this value exclusively for host side operations while all chip operations consider the device DMA width as read from the device register. net: stmmac: bump tc when get underflow error from DMA descriptor In DMA threshold mode, frame underflow errors may sometimes occur when the TC(threshold control) value is not enough. The TC value need to be bumped up in this case. There is no underflow interrupt bit on DMA_CH(#i)_Status of dwmac4, so the DMA threshold cannot be bumped up in stmmac_dma_interrupt(). The i.mx8mp board observed an underflow error while running NFS boot, the NFS rootfs could not be mounted. The underflow error can be got from the DMA descriptor TDES3 on dwmac4. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. net: pcs: xpcs: convert to phylink_pcs_ops Since all the remaining members of struct mdio_xpcs_ops have direct equivalents in struct phylink_pcs_ops, it is about time we remove it altogether. Since the phylink ops return void, we need to remove the error propagation from the various xpcs methods and simply print an error message where appropriate. Since xpcs_get_state_c73() detects link faults and attempts to reset the link on its own by calling xpcs_config(), but xpcs_config() now has a lot of phylink arguments which are not needed and cannot be simply fabricated by anybody else except phylink, the actual implementation has been moved into a smaller xpcs_do_config(). The const struct mdio_xpcs_ops *priv->hw->xpcs has been removed, so we need to look at the struct mdio_xpcs_args pointer now as an indication whether the port has an XPCS or not. net: pcs: xpcs: convert to mdio_device Unify the 2 existing PCS drivers (lynx and xpcs) by doing a similar thing on probe, which is to have a *_create function that takes a struct mdio_device * given by the caller, and builds a private PCS structure around that. This changes stmmac to hold only a pointer to the xpcs, as opposed to the full structure. This will be used in the next patch when struct mdio_xpcs_ops is removed. Currently a pointer to struct mdio_xpcs_ops is used as a shorthand to determine whether the port has an XPCS or not. We can do the same now with the mdio_xpcs_args pointer. net: stmmac: support FPE link partner hand-shaking procedure In order to discover whether remote station supports frame preemption, local station sends verify mPacket and expects response mPacket in return from the remote station. So, we add the functions to send and handle event when verify mPacket and response mPacket are exchanged between the networked stations. The mechanism to handle different FPE states between local and remote station (link partner) is implemented using workqueue which starts a task each time there is some sign of verify & response mPacket exchange as check in FPE IRQ event. The task retries couple of times to try to spot the states that both stations are ready to enter FPE ON. This allows different end points to enable FPE at different time and verify-response mPacket can happen asynchronously. Ultimately, the task will only turn FPE ON when local station have both exchange response in both directions. Thanks to Voon Weifeng for implementing the core functions for detecting FPE events and send mPacket and phylink related change. We are now using per-queue coalesce values and per-queue TX timer. Coalesce timer default values was changed to 1ms and the coalesce frames to 25. Tested in B2B setup between XGMAC2 and GMAC5. net: stmmac: Add support for U32 TC filter using Flexible RX Parser This adds support for U32 filter by using an HW only feature called Flexible RX Parser. This allow us to match any given packet field with a pattern and accept/reject or even route the packet to a specific DMA channel. Right now we only support acception or rejection of frame and we only support simple rules. Though, the Parser has the flexibility of jumping to specific rules as an if condition so complex rules can be established. This is only supported in GMAC5.10+. The following commands can be used to test this code: 1) Setup an ingress qdisk: # tc qdisc add dev eth0 handle ffff: ingress 2) Setup a filter (e.g. filter by IP): # tc filter add dev eth0 parent ffff: protocol ip u32 match ip \ src 192.168.0.3 skip_sw action drop In every tests performed we always used the "skip_sw" flag to make sure only the RX Parser was involved. The Automotive Safety Pacakge (also called Safety Features) offers us with error protection in the core by implementing ECC Protection in memories, on-chip data path parity protection, FSM parity and timeout protection and Application/CSR interface timeout protection. net: stmmac: Fix reception of Broadcom switches tags Broadcom tags inserted by Broadcom switches put a 4 byte header after the MAC SA and before the EtherType, which may look like some sort of 0 length LLC/SNAP packet (tcpdump and wireshark do think that way). With ACS enabled in stmmac the packets were truncated to 8 bytes on reception, whereas clearing this bit allowed normal reception to occur. In order to make that possible, we need to pass a net_device argument to the different core_init() functions and we are dependent on the Broadcom tagger padding packets correctly (which it now does). To be as little invasive as possible, this is only done for gmac1000 when the network device is DSA-enabled (netdev_uses_dsa() returns true). In dwmac4_core_init and dwmac1000_core_init, port/speed value was used directly without using the struct link. This patch convert also their usage to speedxxx. TX appears to be functional on GMAC 4.10a even if this field is not set, however, to avoid relying on undefined behavior, set the length in TDES3. The field has a different meaning depending on if the TSE bit in TDES3 is set or not (TSO). However, regardless of the TSE bit, the field is not optional. The field is already set correctly when the TSE bit is set. Since there is no limit for the number of descriptors that can be used for a single packet, the field should be set to the sum of the buffers contained in: [<desc with First Descriptor bit set> ... <desc n> ... <desc with Last Descriptor bit set>], which should be equal to skb->len. Just the RGMII/SMII Control/Status register differs. So This patch aims to reorganize and enhance the PCS support. stmmac: first frame prep at the end of xmit routine This patch is to fill the first descriptor just before granting the DMA engine so at the end of the xmit. The patch takes care about the algorithm adopted to mitigate the interrupts, then it fixes the last segment in case of no fragments. Moreover, this new implementation does not pass any "ter" field when prepare the descriptors because this is not necessary. The patch also details the memory barrier in the xmit. As final results, this patch guarantees the same performances but fixing a case if small datagram are sent. In fact, this kind of test is impacted if no coalesce is done. stmmac: review RX/TX ring management This patch is to rework the ring management now optimized. The indexes into the ring buffer are always incremented, and the entry is accessed via doing a modulo to find the "real" position in the ring. It is inefficient, modulo is an expensive operation. The formula [(entry + 1) & (size - 1)] is now adopted on a ring that is power-of-2 in size. Then, the number of elements cannot be set by command line but it is fixed. stmmac: rework DMA bus setting and introduce new platform AXI structure This patch restructures the DMA bus settings and this is done by introducing a new platform structure used for programming the AXI Bus Mode Register inside the DMA module. This structure can be populated from device-tree as documented in the binding txt file. After initializing the DMA, the AXI register can be optionally tuned for platform drivers based. This patch also reworks some parameters to make coherent the DMA configuration now that AXI register is introduced. For example, the burst_len is managed by using the mentioned axi support above; so the snps,burst-len parameter has been removed. It makes sense to provide the AAL parameter from DT to Address-Aligned Beats inside the Register0 and review the PBL settings when initialize the engine. For PCI glue, rebuilding the story of this setting, it was added to align a configuration so not for fixing some known problem. No issue raised after this patch. stmmac: Fix calculations for ptp counters when clock input = 50Mhz. stmmac_config_sub_second_increment set the sub second increment to 20ns. Driver is configured to use the fine adjustment method where the sub second register is incremented when the acculumator incremented by the addend register wraps overflows. This accumulator is update on every ptp clk cycle. If a ptp clk with a period of greater than 20ns was used the sub second register would not get updated correctly. Instead set the sub sec increment to twice the period of the ptp clk. This result in the addend register being set mid range and overflow the accumlator every 2 clock cycles. stmmac: fix the rx csum feature For new GMACs it is possible to turn-on/off the COE. In the current driver, when disabled the Rx-checksum via ethtool, the tool reported that csum was disabled but the HW continued to set the IPC. Indeed this is because the fix_features allows this. stmmac: fix dma api misuse Enabling DMA_API_DEBUG, warnings are reported at runtime because the device driver frees DMA memory with wrong functions and it does not call dma_mapping_error after mapping dma memory. The first problem is fixed by of introducing a flag that helps us keeping track which mapping technique was used, so that we can use the right API for unmap. This approach was inspired by the e1000 driver, which uses a similar technique. net: stmmac: Support devicetree configs for mcast and ucast filter entries This patch adds and modifies code to support multiple Multicast and Unicast Synopsys MAC filter configurations. The default configuration is defined to support legacy driver behavior, which is 64 Multicast bins. The Unicast filter code previously assumed all controllers support 32 or 16 Unicast addresses based on controller version number, but this has been corrected to support a default of 1 Unicast address. The filter configuration may be specified through the devicetree using a Synopsys specific device tree entry. net: stmmac: Correct set_filter for multicast and unicast cases This patch removes the check for the number of mulitcast addresses when using hash based filtering since it's not necessary. If the number of multicast addresses in the list exceeds the number of multicast hash bins, the bins will "fold" over into one of the bins configured and enabled for the particular component instance. The default number of maximum unicast addresses was changed from 32 to 1 since this number is not dependent on the component revision. The maximum number of multicast and unicast addresses is dependent on the configuration of the Synopsys EMAC configured by the SOC architect at the time the features were selected and configured for a particular component. Sadly, Synopsys does not provide a way to query the precise number supported by a particular component, so we must fall back on a devicetree entry. This configuration could vary from vendor to vendor (such as STMicro, Altera, etc). The multicast bins are set for every possible filtering case (including no entries) - previously the bits were set only if multicast filter entries were present. net: stmmac: Change MAC interface to support multiple filter configurations The synopsys EMAC can be configured for different numbers of multicast hash bins and perfect filter entries at device creation time and there's no way to query this configuration information at runtime. As a result, a devicetree parameter is required in order for the driver to program these filters correctly for a particular device instance. This patch modifies the 10/100/1000 MAC software interface such that these configuration parameters can be set at initialization time. stmmac: Fix kernel crashes for jumbo frames These changes correct the following issues with jumbo frames on the stmmac driver: 1) The Synopsys EMAC can be configured to support different FIFO sizes at core configuration time. There's no way to query the controller and know the FIFO size, so the driver needs to get this information from the device tree in order to know how to correctly handle MTU changes and setting up dma buffers. stmmac: add IEEE PTPv1 and PTPv2 support. This patch enhances the stmmac driver to support IEEE 1588-2002 PTP (Precision Time Protocol) version 1 and IEEE 1588-2008 PPT version 2. Precision Time Protocol(PTP),which enables precise synchronization of clocks in measurement and control systems implemented with technologies such as network communication,local computing, & distributed objects. Both PTPv1 and PTPv2 is selected at run-time using the HW capability register. The PTPv1 TimeStamp support can be used on chips that have the normal descriptor structures and PTPv2 TimeStamp support can be used on chips that have the Extended descriptors(DES4-5-6-7). All such sanity checks are done and verified by using HW capability register. V2: in this version the ethtool support has been included in this patch; Koptions have been completely removed (previously added to select PTP and PTPv2). PTPv1 and PTPv2 is now added in a single patch instead of two patches. get_timestamp() and get_systemtime() L/H have been combined into single APIs. stmmac: support extend descriptors This patch is to support the extend descriptors available in the chips newer than the 3.50. In case of the extend descriptors cannot be supported, at runtime, the driver will continue to work using the old style. In detail, this support extends the main descriptor structure adding new descriptors: 4, 5, 6, 7. The desc4 gives us extra information about the received ethernet payload when it is carrying PTP packets or TCP/UDP/ICMP over IP packets. The descriptors 6 and 7 are used for saving HW L/H timestamps (PTP). V2: this new version removes the Koption added in the first implementation because all the checks now to verify if the extended descriptors are actually supported happen at probe time. stmmac: add Rx watchdog support to mitigate the DMA irqs GMAC devices newer than databook 3.40 has an embedded timer that can be used for mitigating the number of interrupts. So this patch adds this optimizations. At any rate, the Rx watchdog can be disable (on bugged HW) by passing from the platform the riwt_off field. In this implementation the rx timer stored in the Reg9 is fixed to the max value. This will be tuned by using ethtool. V2: added a platform parameter to force to disable the rx-watchdog for example on new core where it is bugged. V3: do not disable NAPI when Rx watchdog is used. V4: a new extra statistic field has been added to show the early receive status in the interrupt handler. This patch also adds an extra check to avoid to call napi_schedule when the DMA_INTR_ENA_RIE bit is disabled in the Interrupt Mask register. stmmac: add the initial tx coalesce schema This patch adds a new schema used for mitigating the number of transmit interrupts. It is based on a SW timer and a threshold value. The timer is used to periodically call the stmmac_tx_clean function; the threshold is used for setting the IC (Interrupt on Completion bit). The ISR will then invoke the poll method. Also the patch improves some ethtool stat fields. V2: review the logic to manage the IC bit in the TDESC that was bugged because it didn't take care about the fragments. stmmac: update normal descriptor structure (v2) This patch updates the normal descriptor structure to work fine on new GMAC Synopsys chips. Normal descriptors were designed on the old MAC10/100 databook 1.91 where some bits were reserved: for example the tx checksum insertion and rx checksum offload. The patch maintains the back-compatibility with old MAC devices (tested on STx7109 MAC10/100) and adds new fields that actually new GMAC devices can use. For example, STx7109 (MAC10/100) will pass from the platform tx_coe = 0, enh_desc = 0, has_gmac = 0. A platform like Loongson1B (GMAC) will pass: tx_coe = 1, enh_desc = 0, has_gmac = 1. stmmac: add CHAINED descriptor mode support (V4) This patch enhances the STMMAC driver to support CHAINED mode of descriptor. STMMAC supports DMA descriptor to operate both in dual buffer(RING) and linked-list(CHAINED) mode. In RING mode (default) each descriptor points to two data buffer pointers whereas in CHAINED mode they point to only one data buffer pointer. In CHAINED mode each descriptor will have pointer to next descriptor in the list, hence creating the explicit chaining in the descriptor itself, whereas such explicit chaining is not possible in RING mode. First version of this work has been done by Rayagond. Then the patch has been reworked avoiding ifdef inside the C code. A new header file has been added to define all the functions needed for managing enhanced and normal descriptors. In fact, these have to be specialized according to the ring/chain usage. Two new C files have been also added to implement the helper routines needed to manage: jumbo frames, chain and ring setup (i.e. desc3).
