qed/red_ll2: Fix undefined behavior bug in struct qed_ll2_info The flexible structure (a structure that contains a flexible-array member at the end) `qed_ll2_tx_packet` is nested within the second layer of `struct qed_ll2_info`: struct qed_ll2_tx_packet { ... /* Flexible Array of bds_set determined by max_bds_per_packet */ struct { struct core_tx_bd *txq_bd; dma_addr_t tx_frag; u16 frag_len; } bds_set[]; }; struct qed_ll2_tx_queue { ... struct qed_ll2_tx_packet cur_completing_packet; }; struct qed_ll2_info { ... struct qed_ll2_tx_queue tx_queue; struct qed_ll2_cbs cbs; }; The problem is that member `cbs` in `struct qed_ll2_info` is placed just after an object of type `struct qed_ll2_tx_queue`, which is in itself an implicit flexible structure, which by definition ends in a flexible array member, in this case `bds_set`. This causes an undefined behavior bug at run-time when dynamic memory is allocated for `bds_set`, which could lead to a serious issue if `cbs` in `struct qed_ll2_info` is overwritten by the contents of `bds_set`. Notice that the type of `cbs` is a structure full of function pointers (and a cookie :) ): include/linux/qed/qed_ll2_if.h: 107 typedef 108 void (*qed_ll2_complete_rx_packet_cb)(void *cxt, 109 struct qed_ll2_comp_rx_data *data); 110 111 typedef 112 void (*qed_ll2_release_rx_packet_cb)(void *cxt, 113 u8 connection_handle, 114 void *cookie, 115 dma_addr_t rx_buf_addr, 116 bool b_last_packet); 117 118 typedef 119 void (*qed_ll2_complete_tx_packet_cb)(void *cxt, 120 u8 connection_handle, 121 void *cookie, 122 dma_addr_t first_frag_addr, 123 bool b_last_fragment, 124 bool b_last_packet); 125 126 typedef 127 void (*qed_ll2_release_tx_packet_cb)(void *cxt, 128 u8 connection_handle, 129 void *cookie, 130 dma_addr_t first_frag_addr, 131 bool b_last_fragment, bool b_last_packet); 132 133 typedef 134 void (*qed_ll2_slowpath_cb)(void *cxt, u8 connection_handle, 135 u32 opaque_data_0, u32 opaque_data_1); 136 137 struct qed_ll2_cbs { 138 qed_ll2_complete_rx_packet_cb rx_comp_cb; 139 qed_ll2_release_rx_packet_cb rx_release_cb; 140 qed_ll2_complete_tx_packet_cb tx_comp_cb; 141 qed_ll2_release_tx_packet_cb tx_release_cb; 142 qed_ll2_slowpath_cb slowpath_cb; 143 void *cookie; 144 }; Fix this by moving the declaration of `cbs` to the middle of its containing structure `qed_ll2_info`, preventing it from being overwritten by the contents of `bds_set` at run-time. This bug was introduced in 2017, when `bds_set` was converted to a one-element array, and started to be used as a Variable Length Object (VLO) at run-time. qed/qed_ll2: Replace one-element array with flexible-array member There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should no longer be used[2]. Refactor the code according to the use of a flexible-array member in struct qed_ll2_tx_packet, instead of a one-element array and use the struct_size() helper to calculate the size for the allocations. Commit f5823fe6897c ("qed: Add ll2 option to limit the number of bds per packet") was used as a reference point for these changes. Also, it's important to notice that flexible-array members should occur last in any structure, and structures containing such arrays and that are members of other structures, must also occur last in the containing structure. That's why _cur_completing_packet_ is now moved to the bottom in struct qed_ll2_tx_queue. _descq_mem_ and _cur_send_packet_ are also moved for unification. qed: FW 8.42.2.0 Additional ll2 type LL2 queues were a limited resource due to FW constraints. This FW introduced a new resource which is a context based ll2 queue (memory on host). The additional ll2 queues are required for RDMA SRIOV. The code refers to the previous ll2 queues as ram-based or legacy, and the new queues as ctx-based. This change decreased the "legacy" ram-based queues therefore the first ll2 queue used for iWARP was converted to the ctx-based ll2 queue. This feature also exposed a bug in the DIRECT_REG_WR64 macro implementation which didn't have an effect in other use cases. qed*: LL2 callback operations LL2 today is interrupt driven - when tx/rx completion arrives [or any other indication], qed needs to operate on the connection and pass the information to the protocol-driver [or internal qed consumer]. Since we have several flavors of ll2 employeed by the driver, each handler needs to do an if-else to determine the right functionality to use based on the connection type. In order to make things more scalable [given that we're going to add additional types of ll2 flavors] move the infrastrucutre into using a callback-based approach - the callbacks would be provided as part of the connection's initialization parameters. qed: avoid possible stack overflow in qed_ll2_acquire_connection struct qed_ll2_info is rather large, so putting it on the stack can cause an overflow, as this warning tries to tell us: drivers/net/ethernet/qlogic/qed/qed_ll2.c: In function 'qed_ll2_start': drivers/net/ethernet/qlogic/qed/qed_ll2.c:2159:1: error: the frame size of 1056 bytes is larger than 1024 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=] qed_ll2_start_ooo() already uses a dynamic allocation for the structure to work around that problem, and we could do the same in qed_ll2_start() as well as qed_roce_ll2_start(), but since the structure is only used to pass a couple of initialization values here, it seems nicer to replace it with a different structure. Lacking any idea for better naming, I'm adding 'struct qed_ll2_conn', which now contains all the initialization data, and this now simply gets copied into struct qed_ll2_info rather than assigning all members one by one. qed*: Fix Kconfig dependencies with INFINIBAND_QEDR The qedr driver would require a tristate Kconfig option [to allow it to compile as a module], and toward that end we've added the INFINIBAND_QEDR option. But as we've made the compilation of the qed/qede infrastructure required for RoCE dependent on the option we'd be facing linking difficulties in case that QED=y or QEDE=y, and INFINIBAND_QEDR=m. To resolve this, we seperate between the INFINIBAND_QEDR option and the infrastructure support in qed/qede by introducing a new QED_RDMA option which would be selected by INFINIBAND_QEDR but would be a boolean instead of a tristate; Following that, the qed/qede is fixed based on this new option so that all config combinations would be supported.
