net: ethernet: cavium: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). net_tstamp: add new flag HWTSTAMP_FLAG_BONDED_PHC_INDEX Since commit 94dd016ae538 ("bond: pass get_ts_info and SIOC[SG]HWTSTAMP ioctl to active device") the user could get bond active interface's PHC index directly. But when there is a failover, the bond active interface will change, thus the PHC index is also changed. This may break the user's program if they did not update the PHC timely. This patch adds a new hwtstamp_config flag HWTSTAMP_FLAG_BONDED_PHC_INDEX. When the user wants to get the bond active interface's PHC, they need to add this flag and be aware the PHC index may be changed. With the new flag. All flag checks in current drivers are removed. of: net: pass the dst buffer to of_get_mac_address() of_get_mac_address() returns a "const void*" pointer to a MAC address. Lately, support to fetch the MAC address by an NVMEM provider was added. But this will only work with platform devices. It will not work with PCI devices (e.g. of an integrated root complex) and esp. not with DSA ports. There is an of_* variant of the nvmem binding which works without devices. The returned data of a nvmem_cell_read() has to be freed after use. On the other hand the return of_get_mac_address() points to some static data without a lifetime. The trick for now, was to allocate a device resource managed buffer which is then returned. This will only work if we have an actual device. Change it, so that the caller of of_get_mac_address() has to supply a buffer where the MAC address is written to. Unfortunately, this will touch all drivers which use the of_get_mac_address(). Usually the code looks like: const char *addr; addr = of_get_mac_address(np); if (!IS_ERR(addr)) ether_addr_copy(ndev->dev_addr, addr); This can then be simply rewritten as: of_get_mac_address(np, ndev->dev_addr); Sometimes is_valid_ether_addr() is used to test the MAC address. of_get_mac_address() already makes sure, it just returns a valid MAC address. Thus we can just test its return code. But we have to be careful if there are still other sources for the MAC address before the of_get_mac_address(). In this case we have to keep the is_valid_ether_addr() call. The following coccinelle patch was used to convert common cases to the new style. Afterwards, I've manually gone over the drivers and fixed the return code variable: either used a new one or if one was already available use that. net: phy: mdio-octeon: Cleanup module loading dependencies To ensure that the octeon MDIO driver has been loaded, the Cavium ethernet drivers reference a dummy symbol in the MDIO driver. This forces it to be loaded first. And this symbol has not been cleanly implemented, resulting in warnings when build W=1 C=1. Since device tree is being used, and a phandle points to the PHY on the MDIO bus, we can make use of deferred probing. If the PHY fails to connect, it should be because the MDIO bus driver has not loaded yet. Return -EPROBE_DEFER so it will be tried again later. net: octeon: mgmt: Repair filling of RX ring The removal of mips_swiotlb_ops exposed a problem in octeon_mgmt Ethernet driver. mips_swiotlb_ops had an mb() after most of the operations and the removal of the ops had broken the receive functionality of the driver. My code inspection has shown no other places except octeon_mgmt_rx_fill_ring() where an explicit barrier would be obviously missing. The latter function however has to make sure that "ringing the bell" doesn't happen before RX ring entry is really written. The patch has been successfully tested on Octeon II. Thus their supported PHY features or advertised features cannot be implemented using the current bitmap in a u32. Convert to using a linkmode bitmap, which can support all the currently devices link modes, and is future proof as more modes are added. octeon_mgmt: Fix MIX registers configuration on MTU setup octeon_mgmt driver doesn't drop RX frames that are 1-4 bytes bigger than MTU set for the corresponding interface. The problem is in the AGL_GMX_RX0/1_FRM_MAX register setting, which should not account for VLAN tagging. According to Octeon HW manual: "For tagged frames, MAX increases by four bytes for each VLAN found up to a maximum of two VLANs, or MAX + 8 bytes." OCTEON_FRAME_HEADER_LEN "define" is fine for ring buffer management, but should not be used for AGL_GMX_RX0/1_FRM_MAX. The problem could be easily reproduced using "ping" command. If affected system has default MTU 1500, other host (having MTU >= 1504) can successfully "ping" the affected system with payload size 1473-1476, resulting in IP packets of size 1501-1504 accepted by the mgmt driver. Fixed system still accepts IP packets of 1500 bytes even with VLAN tagging, because the limits are lifted in HW as expected, for every VLAN tag.
