cnic,bnx2,bnx2x: use UIO_MEM_DMA_COHERENT Use the UIO_MEM_DMA_COHERENT type to properly handle mmap for dma_alloc_coherent buffers. The cnic l2_ring and l2_buf mmaps have caused page refcount issues as the dma_alloc_coherent no longer provide __GFP_COMP allocation as per commit "dma-mapping: reject __GFP_COMP in dma_alloc_attrs". Fix this by having the uio device use dma_mmap_coherent. The bnx2 and bnx2x status block allocations are also dma_alloc_coherent, and should use dma_mmap_coherent. They don't allocate multiple pages, but this interface does not work correctly with an iommu enabled unless dma_mmap_coherent is used. bnx2: remove deadcode in bnx2_init_cpus() The load_cpu_fw function has no error return code and always returns zero. Checking the value returned by this function does not make sense. Now checking the value of the return value is misleading when reading the code. Path with error handling was deleted in 57579f7629a3 ("bnx2: Use request_firmware()"). As a result, bnx2_init_cpus() will also return only zero Therefore, it will be safe to change the type of functions to void and remove checking to improving readability. bnx2: Drop redundant pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() enables the device to send ERR_* Messages. Since f26e58bf6f54 ("PCI/AER: Enable error reporting when AER is native"), the PCI core does this for all devices during enumeration, so the driver doesn't need to do it itself. Remove the redundant pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() call from the driver. Also remove the corresponding pci_disable_pcie_error_reporting() from the driver .remove() path. Note that this only controls ERR_* Messages from the device. An ERR_* Message may cause the Root Port to generate an interrupt, depending on the AER Root Error Command register managed by the AER service driver. cd709aa90648 ("bnx2: Add PCI Advanced Error Reporting support.") added pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() for all devices, and c239f279e571 ("bnx2: Enable AER on PCIE devices only") restricted it to BNX2_CHIP_5709 devices to avoid an error message when it failed on non-PCIe devices. The PCI core only enables PCIe error reporting on PCIe devices, which I assume means BNX2_CHIP_5709. skbuff: Introduce slab_build_skb() syzkaller reported: BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in __build_skb_around+0x235/0x340 net/core/skbuff.c:294 Write of size 32 at addr ffff88802aa172c0 by task syz-executor413/5295 For bpf_prog_test_run_skb(), which uses a kmalloc()ed buffer passed to build_skb(). When build_skb() is passed a frag_size of 0, it means the buffer came from kmalloc. In these cases, ksize() is used to find its actual size, but since the allocation may not have been made to that size, actually perform the krealloc() call so that all the associated buffer size checking will be correctly notified (and use the "new" pointer so that compiler hinting works correctly). Split this logic out into a new interface, slab_build_skb(), but leave the original 0 checking for now to catch any stragglers. ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in drivers This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. drivers: Remove explicit invocations of mmiowb() mmiowb() is now implied by spin_unlock() on architectures that require it, so there is no reason to call it from driver code. This patch was generated using coccinelle: @mmiowb@ @@ - mmiowb(); and invoked as: $ for d in drivers include/linux/qed sound; do \ spatch --include-headers --sp-file mmiowb.cocci --dir $d --in-place; done NOTE: mmiowb() has only ever guaranteed ordering in conjunction with spin_unlock(). However, pairing each mmiowb() removal in this patch with the corresponding call to spin_unlock() is not at all trivial, so there is a small chance that this change may regress any drivers incorrectly relying on mmiowb() to order MMIO writes between CPUs using lock-free synchronisation. If you've ended up bisecting to this commit, you can reintroduce the mmiowb() calls using wmb() instead, which should restore the old behaviour on all architectures other than some esoteric ia64 systems. treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup() This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); become: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Direct function assignments: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback; have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback; And finally, callbacks without a data assignment: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Revert "bnx2: Reset device during driver initialization" This reverts commit 3e1be7ad2d38c6bd6aeef96df9bd0a7822f4e51c. When people build bnx2 driver into kernel, it will fail to detect and load firmware because firmware is contained in initramfs and initramfs has not been uncompressed yet during do_initcalls. So revert commit 3e1be7a and work out a new way in the later patch. Signed-off-by: Baoquan He <bhe@redhat.com> Acked-by: Paul Menzel <pmenzel@molgen.mpg.de> Signed-off-by: David S. bnx2: Reset device during driver initialization When system enters into kdump kernel because of kernel panic, it won't shutdown devices. On-flight DMA will continue transferring data until device driver initializes. All devices are supposed to reset during driver initialization. And this property is used to fix the kdump failure in system with intel iommu. Other systems with hardware iommu should be similar. Please check commit 091d42e ("iommu/vt-d: Copy translation tables from old kernel") and those commits around. But bnx2 driver doesn't reset device during driver initialization. The device resetting is deferred to net device up stage. This will cause hardware iommu handling failure on bnx2 device. And its resetting relies on firmware. So in this patch move the firmware requesting code to earlier bnx2_init_one(), then next call bnx2_reset_chip to reset device. Signed-off-by: Baoquan He <bhe@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. net: allow skb->head to be a page fragment skb->head is currently allocated from kmalloc(). This is convenient but has the drawback the data cannot be converted to a page fragment if needed. We have three spots were it hurts : 1) GRO aggregation When a linear skb must be appended to another skb, GRO uses the frag_list fallback, very inefficient since we keep all struct sk_buff around. So drivers enabling GRO but delivering linear skbs to network stack aren't enabling full GRO power. 2) splice(socket -> pipe). We must copy the linear part to a page fragment. This kind of defeats splice() purpose (zero copy claim) 3) TCP coalescing. Recently introduced, this permits to group several contiguous segments into a single skb. This shortens queue lengths and save kernel memory, and greatly reduce probabilities of TCP collapses. This coalescing doesnt work on linear skbs (or we would need to copy data, this would be too slow) Given all these issues, the following patch introduces the possibility of having skb->head be a fragment in itself. We use a new skb flag, skb->head_frag to carry this information. build_skb() is changed to accept a frag_size argument. Drivers willing to provide a page fragment instead of kmalloc() data will set a non zero value, set to the fragment size. Then, on situations we need to convert the skb head to a frag in itself, we can check if skb->head_frag is set and avoid the copies or various fallbacks we have. This means drivers currently using frags could be updated to avoid the current skb->head allocation and reduce their memory footprint (aka skb truesize). (thats 512 or 1024 bytes saved per skb). This also makes bpf/netfilter faster since the 'first frag' will be part of skb linear part, no need to copy data. bnx2: don't request firmware when there's no userspace. The firmware is cached during the first successful call to open() and released once the network device is unregistered. The driver uses the cached firmware between open() and unregister_netdev(). It's similar to 953a12cc2889d1be92e80a2d0bab5ffef4942300 but the firmware is mandatory.
