mmc: davinci_mmc: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. mmc: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. On device tree systems, we can get a -EPROBE_DEFER when using a pinmux for the CD GPIO, which results in the driver never loading because module_platform_driver_probe() prevents it from being re-probed. mmc: davinci: Poll status for small size transfers For small size non-dma sdio transactions, it is sometimes better to poll the mmc host and avoid interrupts altogether. Polling lowers the number of interrupts and context switches. Tests have shown that for small transactions, only a few polling iterations are needed, so this is worth while. mmc: davinci: Eliminate spurious interrupts The davinci mmc interrupt handler fills the fifo, as long as the DXRDY or DRRDY bits are set in the status register. If interrupts fire during this loop, they will be handled by the handler, but the interrupt controller will still buffer these. As a result, the handler will be called again to serve these needlessly. In order to avoid these spurious interrupts, keep interrupts masked while filling the fifo. mmc: remove the "state" argument to mmc_suspend_host() Even though many mmc host drivers pass a pm_message_t argument to mmc_suspend_host() that argument isn't used the by MMC core. As host drivers are converted to dev_pm_ops they'll have to construct pm_message_t's (as they won't be passed by the PM subsystem any more) just to appease the mmc suspend interface. We might as well just delete the unused paramter. davinci: mmc: pass number of SG segments as platform data On some platforms like DM355, the number of EDMA parameter slots available for EDMA_SLOT_ANY usage are few. In such cases, if MMC/SD uses 16 slots for each instance of MMC controller, then the number of slots available for other modules will be very few. By passing the number of EDMA slots to be used in MMC driver from platform data, EDMA slots available for other purposes can be controlled. Most of the platforms will not use this platform data variable. But on DM355, as the number of EDMA resources available is limited, the number of scatter- gather segments used inside the MMC driver can be 8 (passed as platform data) instead of 16. On DM355, when the number of scatter-gather segments was reduced to 8, I saw a performance difference of about 0.25-0.4 Mbytes/sec during write. Read performance variations were negligible.
