leds: Introduce ExpressWire library The ExpressWire protocol is shared between at least KTD2692 and KTD2801 with slight differences such as timings and the former not having a defined set of pulses for enabling the protocol (possibly because it does not support PWM unlike KTD2801). Despite these differences the ExpressWire handling code can be shared between the two, so in preparation for adding KTD2801 support introduce a library implementing this protocol. leds: Add driver for Qualcomm LPG The Light Pulse Generator (LPG) is a PWM-block found in a wide range of PMICs from Qualcomm. These PMICs typically comes with 1-8 LPG instances, with their output being routed to various other components, such as current sinks or GPIOs. Each LPG instance can operate on fixed parameters or based on a shared lookup-table, altering the duty cycle over time. This provides the means for hardware assisted transitions of LED brightness. A typical use case for the fixed parameter mode is to drive a PWM backlight control signal, the driver therefor allows each LPG instance to be exposed to the kernel either through the LED framework or the PWM framework. A typical use case for the LED configuration is to drive RGB LEDs in smartphones etc, for which the driver supports multiple channels to be ganged up to a MULTICOLOR LED. In this configuration the pattern generators will be synchronized, to allow for multi-color patterns. The idea of modelling this as a LED driver ontop of a PWM driver was considered, but setting the properties related to patterns does not fit in the PWM API. Similarly the idea of just duplicating the lower bits in a PWM and LED driver separately was considered, but this would not allow the PWM channels and LEDs to be configured on a per-board basis. The driver implements the more complex LED interface, and provides a PWM interface on the side of that, in the same driver. leds: rt8515: Add Richtek RT8515 LED driver This adds a driver for the Richtek RT8515 dual channel torch/flash white LED driver. This LED driver is found in some mobile phones from Samsung such as the GT-S7710 and GT-I8190. A V4L interface is added. We do not have a proper datasheet for the RT8515 but it turns out that RT9387A has a public datasheet and is essentially the same chip. We designed the driver in accordance with this datasheet. The day someone needs to drive a RT9387A this driver can probably easily be augmented to handle that chip too. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. leds: Introduce userspace LED class driver This driver creates a userspace leds driver similar to uinput. New LEDs are created by opening /dev/uleds and writing a uleds_user_dev struct. A new LED class device is registered with the name given in the struct. Reading will return a single byte that is the current brightness. The poll() syscall is also supported. It will be triggered whenever the brightness changes. Closing the file handle to /dev/uleds will remove the leds class device. leds: is31fl319x: 1/3/6/9-channel light effect led driver This is a driver for the Integrated Silicon Solution Inc. LED driver chips series IS31FL319x. They can drive 1, 3, 6 or up to 9 LEDs. Each LED is individually controllable in brightness (through pwm) in 256 steps so that RGB LEDs can show any of ca. 16 Mio colors. The maximum current of the LEDs can be programmed and limited to 5 .. 40mA through a device tree property. The chip is connected through I2C and can have one of 4 addresses in the range 0x64 .. 0x67 depending on how the AD pin is connected. The address is defined by the reg property as usual. The chip also has a shutdown input which could be connected to a GPIO, but this driver uses software shutdown if all LEDs are inactivated. The programming paradigm of these devices is similar in the following ways: - All registers are 8 bit - All LED control registers are write-only - Each LED channel has a PWM register (0-255) - PWM register writes are shadowed until an Update register is poked - All have a concept of Software Shutdown, which disables output However, there are some differences in devices: - 3236/3235 have a separate Control register for each LED, (3218/3216 pack the enable bits into fewer registers) - 3236/3235 have a per-channel current divisor setting - 3236/3235 have a Global Control register that can turn off all LEDs - 3216 is unique in a number of ways - OUT9-OUT16 can be configured as GPIOs instead of LED controls - LEDs can be programmed with an 8-frame animation, with programmable delay between frames - LEDs can be modulated by an input audio signal - Max output current can be adjusted from 1/4 to 2x globally - Has a Configuration register instead of a Shutdown register This driver currently only supports the base PWM control function of these devices. The following features of these devices are not implemented, although it should be possible to add them in the future: - All devices are capable of going into a lower-power "software shutdown" mode. - The is31fl3236 and is31fl3235 can reduce the max output current per-channel with a divisor of 1, 2, 3, or 4. - The is31fl3216 can use some LED channels as GPIOs instead. - The is31fl3216 can animate LEDs in hardware. - The is31fl3216 can modulate LEDs according to an audio input. - The is31fl3216 can reduce/increase max output current globally. leds/powernv: Add driver for PowerNV platform This patch implements LED driver for PowerNV platform using the existing generic LED class framework. PowerNV platform has below type of LEDs: - System attention Indicates there is a problem with the system that needs attention. - Identify Helps the user locate/identify a particular FRU or resource in the system. - Fault Indicates there is a problem with the FRU or resource at the location with which the indicator is associated. We register classdev structures for all individual LEDs detected on the system through LED specific device tree nodes. Device tree nodes specify what all kind of LEDs present on the same location code. It registers LED classdev structure for each of them. All the system LEDs can be found in the same regular path /sys/class/leds/. We don't use LED colors. We use LED node and led-types property to form LED classdev. Our LEDs have names in this format. <location_code>:<attention|identify|fault> Any positive brightness value would turn on the LED and a zero value would turn off the LED. The driver will return LED_FULL (255) for any turned on LED and LED_OFF (0) for any turned off LED. The platform level implementation of LED get and set state has been achieved through OPAL calls. These calls are made available for the driver by exporting from architecture specific codes. leds: tlc591xx: Driver for the TI 8/16 Channel i2c LED driver The TLC59116 is an I2C bus controlled 16-channel LED driver. The TLC59108 is an I2C bus controlled 8-channel LED driver, which is very similar to the TLC59116. Each LED output has its own 8-bit fixed-frequency PWM controller to control the brightness of the LED. The LEDs can also be fixed off and on, making them suitable for use as GPOs. This is based on a driver from Belkin, but has been extensively rewritten and extended to support both 08 and 16 versions. leds: Add LED Flash class extension to the LED subsystem Some LED devices support two operation modes - torch and flash. This patch provides support for flash LED devices in the LED subsystem by introducing new sysfs attributes and kernel internal interface. The attributes being introduced are: flash_brightness, flash_strobe, flash_timeout, max_flash_timeout, max_flash_brightness, flash_fault, flash_sync_strobe and available_sync_leds. All the flash related features are placed in a separate module. The modifications aim to be compatible with V4L2 framework requirements related to the flash devices management. The design assumes that V4L2 sub-device can take of the LED class device control and communicate with it through the kernel internal interface. When V4L2 Flash sub-device file is opened, the LED class device sysfs interface is made unavailable. LP5562 driver supports the firmware interface and the predefined pattern data as well. LP5562 device attributes: 'led_pattern' and 'engine_mux' A 'led_pattern' is an index code which runs the predefined pattern data. And 'engine_mux' is updated with the firmware interface is activated. leds: add new transient trigger for one shot timer activation The leds timer trigger does not currently have an interface to activate a one shot timer. The current support allows for setting two timers, one for specifying how long a state to be on, and the second for how long the state to be off. The delay_on value specifies the time period an LED should stay in on state, followed by a delay_off value that specifies how long the LED should stay in off state. The on and off cycle repeats until the trigger gets deactivated. There is no provision for one time activation to implement features that require an on or off state to be held just once and then stay in the original state forever. Without one shot timer interface, user space can still use timer trigger to set a timer to hold a state, however when user space application crashes or goes away without deactivating the timer, the hardware will be left in that state permanently. As a specific example of this use-case, let's look at vibrate feature on phones. Vibrate function on phones is implemented using PWM pins on SoC or PMIC. There is a need to activate one shot timer to control the vibrate feature, to prevent user space crashes leaving the phone in vibrate mode permanently causing the battery to drain. This trigger exports three properties, activate, state, and duration When transient trigger is activated these properties are set to default values. - duration allows setting timer value in msecs. The initial value is 0. - activate allows activating and deactivating the timer specified by duration as needed. The initial and default value is 0. This will allow duration to be set after trigger activation. - state allows user to specify a transient state to be held for the specified duration. leds: Renesas TPU LED driver Add V2 of the LED driver for a single timer channel for the TPU hardware block commonly found in Renesas SoCs. The driver has been written with optimal Power Management in mind, so to save power the LED is driven as a regular GPIO pin in case of maximum brightness and power off which allows the TPU hardware to be idle and which in turn allows the clocks to be stopped and the power domain to be turned off transparently. Any other brightness level requires use of the TPU hardware in PWM mode. TPU hardware device clocks and power are managed through Runtime PM. System suspend and resume is known to be working - during suspend the LED is set to off by the generic LED code. The TPU hardware timer is equipeed with a 16-bit counter together with an up-to-divide-by-64 prescaler which makes the hardware suitable for brightness control. Hardware blink is unsupported. The LED PWM waveform has been verified with a Fluke 123 Scope meter on a sh7372 Mackerel board. Tested with experimental sh7372 A3SP power domain patches. Platform device bind/unbind tested ok. V2 has been tested on the DS2 LED of the sh73a0-based AG5EVM. x86: geode: New PCEngines Alix system driver This new driver replaces the old PCEngines Alix 2/3 LED driver with a new driver that controls the LEDs through the leds-gpio driver. The old driver accessed GPIOs directly, which created a conflict and prevented also loading the cs5535-gpio driver to read other GPIOs on the Alix board. I don't have any need for brightness control, and its code is *completely* separate from the on/off controls implemented here. If anyone else wants it, I'd be happy to look into adding it, but I don't care enough for now. Except for the probe routines, I rewrote most of it. I also Note that I don't have any hardware documentation except for the original driver. Thanks go to Arjan for his help in getting the original source for this released and for chasing down some licensing issues. leds: Add WM831x status LED driver The WM831x devices feature two software controlled status LEDs with hardware assisted blinking. The device can also autonomously control the LEDs based on a selection of sources. This can be configured at boot time using either platform data or the chip OTP. A sysfs file in the style of that for triggers allowing the control source to be configured at run time. Triggers can't be used here since they can't depend on the implementation details of a specific LED type. This RGB controller incorporates lighting patterns and illuminates. This driver is designed to minimize power consumption, so when there is no emitting LED, it enters to reset state. leds: Add gpio-led trigger The gpio led trigger will allow leds to be triggered by gpio events. When we give the led a gpio number, the trigger will request_irq() on that so we don't have to keep polling for gpio state. It's useful for usecases as n810's keypad leds that could be triggered by the gpio event generated when user slides up to show the keypad. We also provide means for userland to tell us what is the desired brightness for that special led when it goes on so userland could use information from ambient light sensors and not set led brightness too high if it's not necessary. The callback should use wm8350_isink_set_flash(), wm8350_dcdc25_set_mode() and wm8350_dcdc_set_slot() to configure the operating parameters of the regulators for their hardware and then then use wm8350_register_led() to instantiate the LED driver. This driver was originally written by Liam Girdwood, though it has been extensively modified since then. leds: Add pca9532 led driver NXP pca9532 is a LED dimmer/controller attached to i2c bus. It allows attaching upto 16 leds which can either be on, off or dimmed and/or blinked with the two PWM modulators available. This driver is a "new-style" i2c driver that adheres to the driver model and implements the led framework api. Since the leds connected to the driver are platform specific, it is only useful when platform data is passed to the driver to define what leds are connected to which pins. PWM LED driver This is a LED driver using the PWM on newer SOCs from Atmel; brightness is controlled by changing the PWM duty cycle. So for example if you've set up two leds labeled "pwm0" and "pwm1": echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/pwm2/brightness # off (0%) echo 80 > /sys/class/leds/pwm2/brightness echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/pwm2/brightness # on (100%) Note that "brightness" here isn't linear; maybe that should change. Going from 4 to 8 probably doubles perceived brightness, while 244 to 248 is imperceptible. This is mostly intended to be a simple example of PWM, although it's realistic since LCD backlights are often driven with PWM to conserve battery power (and offer brightness options). [PATCH] PCEngines WRAP LED Support A driver for the PCEngines WRAP boards (http://www.pcengines.ch), which are very similar to the Soekris net4801 (same NS SC1100 geode reference design). The LEDs on the WRAP are on different GPIO lines and I have modified and copied the net48xx error led support for this. It also includes support for an "extra" led (in addition to error). The three LEDs on the WRAP are at GPIO lines 2,3,18 (WRAP LEDs from left to right). This driver gives access to the second and third LEDs by twiddling GPIO lines 3 & 18. Because these boards are so similar to the net48xx, I basically sed-ed that driver to form the basis for leds-wrap.c. The only changes from leds-net48xx.c are: - #define WRAP_EXTRA_LED_GPIO - name changes - duplicate relevant sections to provide support for the "extra" led - reverse the various *_led_set values. The WRAP is "backwards" from the net48xx, and these needed to be updated for that.
