Input: goodix - add support for controllers without flash Some Goodix touchscreen controllers, such as for example the GT912, don't have flash-storage for their firmware. These models require the OS to load the firmware at runtime, as well as some other special handling. Add support for this to the goodix driver. This patch was developed and tested on a Glavey TM800A550L tablet. Note the "goodix,main-clk" and "firmware-name" device-properties used by the new code are *not* documented in the Documentation/devicetree/bindings/input/touchscreen/goodix.yaml device-tree bindings for now. Not documenting these is intentional. This is done because this code has only been tested on x86/ACPI so far, where devicetree is not used. Instead these properties are set through a software-fwnode attached to the device by the drivers/platform/x86/touchscreen_dmi.c code. This means that the use of this properties for now is purely a kernel-internal thing and the name/working of the properties may still be changed for now. Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> |
License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Input: add I2C attached EETI EXC3000 multi touch driver The 3000 series have a new protocol which allows to report up to 5 points in a single 66 byte frame. One must always read in 66 byte frames. To support up to 10 points, two consecutive frames need to be read: The first frame says how many points until sync. The second frame must say zero points or both frames must be discarded. To be able to work with the higher 400KHz I2C bus rate, one must successfully send a special package prior _each_ read or the controller will refuse to cooperate. This is a minimal implementation based on egalax_i2c.c (which can be found on the internet) and egalax_ts.c but without the vendor interface and no power management support. Input: add support for the STMicroelectronics FingerTip touchscreen The stmfts (ST-Microelectronics FingerTip S) touchscreen device is a capacitive multi-touch controller mainly for mobile use. It's connected through i2c bus at the address 0x49 and it interfaces with userspace through input event interface. At the current state it provides a touchscreen multitouch functionality up to 10 fingers. Each finger is enumerated with a distinctive id (from 0 to 9). If enabled the device can support single "touch" hovering, by providing three coordinates, x, y and distance. Input: tsc2007 - add iio interface to read external ADC input and temperature The tsc2007 chip not only has a resistive touch screen controller but also an external AUX adc imput which can be used for an ambient light sensor, battery voltage monitoring or any general purpose. Additionally it can measure the chip temperature. This extension provides an iio interface for these adc channels. Since it is not wasting much resources and is very straightforward, we simply provide all other adc channels as optional iio interfaces as weel. This can be used for debugging or special applications. This patch also splits the tsc2007 driver in several source files: tsc2007.h -- constants, structs and stubs tsc2007_core.c -- functional parts of the original driver tsc2007_iio.c -- the optional iio stuff Makefile magic allows to conditionally link the iio stuff if CONFIG_IIO=y or =m in a way that it works with CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_TSC2007=m. Input: add driver for Allwinner sunxi SoC's rtp controller Note the sun4i-ts controller is capable of detecting a second touch, but when a second touch is present then the accuracy becomes so bad the reported touch location is not useable. The original android driver contains some complicated heuristics using the aprox. distance between the 2 touches to see if the user is making a pinch open / close movement, and then reports emulated multi-touch events around the last touch coordinate (as the dual-touch coordinates are worthless). These kinds of heuristics are just asking for trouble (and don't belong in the kernel). So this driver offers straight forward, reliable single touch functionality only. Input: add support for SuperH MigoR touchscreen This is V2 of the MigoR touch screen driver. The chip we interface to is unfortunately a custom designed microcontroller speaking some undocumented protocol over i2c. The board specific code is expected to register this device as an i2c chip using struct i2c_board_info [] and i2c_register_board_info(). Input: add support for WM97xx familty touchscreens Add support for the touchscreen controllers provided by Wolfson Microelectronics WM97xx series chips in both polled and streaming modes. These drivers have been maintained out of tree since 2003. During that time the driver the primary maintainer was Liam Girdwood and a number of people have made contributions including Dmitry Baryshkov, Stanley Cai, Rodolfo Giometti, Russell King, Marc Kleine-Budde, Ian Molton, Vincent Sanders, Andrew Zabolotny, Graeme Gregory, Mike Arthur and myself. [PATCH] spi: ads7846 driver This is a driver for the ADS7846 touchscreen sensor, derived from the corgi_ts and omap_ts drivers. Key differences from those two: - Uses the new SPI framework (minimalist version) - <linux/spi/ads7846.h> abstracts board-specific touchscreen info - Sysfs attributes for the temperature and voltage sensors - Uses fewer ARM-specific IRQ primitives The temperature and voltage sensors show up in sysfs like this: $ pwd /sys/devices/platform/omap-uwire/spi2.0 $ ls bus@ input:event0@ power/ temp1 vbatt driver@ modalias temp0 vaux $ cat modalias ads7846 $ cat temp0 991 $ cat temp1 1177 $ So far only basic testing has been done. There's a fair amount of hardware that uses this sensor, and which also runs Linux, which should eventually be able to use this driver. One portability note may be of special interest. It turns out that not all SPI controllers are happy issuing requests that do things like "write 8 bit command, read 12 bit response". Most of them seem happy to handle various word sizes, so the issue isn't "12 bit response" but rather "different rx and tx write sizes", despite that being a common MicroWire convention. So this version of the driver no longer reads 12 bit native-endian words; it reads 16-bit big-endian responses, then byteswaps them and shifts the results to discard the noise. Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
