Input: stmpe-ts - drop obsolete dependency on COMPILE_TEST Since commit 0166dc11be91 ("of: make CONFIG_OF user selectable"), it is possible to test-build any driver which depends on OF on any architecture by explicitly selecting OF. Therefore depending on COMPILE_TEST as an alternative is no longer needed. It is actually better to always build such drivers with OF enabled, so that the test builds are closer to how each driver will actually be built on its intended target. Building them without OF may not test much as the compiler will optimize out potentially large parts of the code. In the worst case, this could even pop false positive warnings. Dropping COMPILE_TEST here improves the quality of our testing and avoids wasting time on non-existent issues. media: Kconfig: cleanup VIDEO_DEV dependencies media Kconfig has two entries associated to V4L API: VIDEO_DEV and VIDEO_V4L2. On Kernel 2.6.x, there were two V4L APIs, each one with its own flag. VIDEO_DEV were meant to: 1) enable Video4Linux and make its Kconfig options to appear; 2) it makes the Kernel build the V4L core. while VIDEO_V4L2 where used to distinguish between drivers that implement the newer API and drivers that implemented the former one. With time, such meaning changed, specially after the removal of all V4L version 1 drivers. At the current implementation, VIDEO_DEV only does (1): it enables the media options related to V4L, that now has: menu "Video4Linux options" visible if VIDEO_DEV source "drivers/media/v4l2-core/Kconfig" endmenu but it doesn't affect anymore the V4L core drivers. The rationale is that the V4L2 core has a "soft" dependency at the I2C bus, and now requires to select a number of other Kconfig options: config VIDEO_V4L2 tristate depends on (I2C || I2C=n) && VIDEO_DEV select RATIONAL select VIDEOBUF2_V4L2 if VIDEOBUF2_CORE default (I2C || I2C=n) && VIDEO_DEV In the past, merging them would be tricky, but it seems that it is now possible to merge those symbols, in order to simplify V4L dependencies. Let's keep VIDEO_DEV, as this one is used on some make *defconfig configurations. Input: ili210x - add ili251x firmware update support The ili251x firmware can be updated, this is used when switching between different modes of operation of the touch surface, e.g. glove operation. This patch implements the firmware update mechanism triggered by a write into an sysfs attribute. The firmware itself is distributed as an intel hex file with non-standard types. The first two lines are of type 0xad, which indicates the start of DataFlash payload, that is always at address 0xf000 on the ili251x, so it can be dropped, and 0xac which indicates the position of firmware info in the Application payload, that is always at address 0x2020 on the ili251x and we do not care. The rest of the firmware is data of type 0x00, and we care about that. To convert the firmware hex file into something usable by the kernel, remove the first two lines and then use ihex2fw: $ tail -n +3 input.hex > temp.hex $ ./tools/firmware/ihex2fw temp.hex firmware/ilitek/ili251x.bin To trigger the firmware update, place firmware file ilitek/ili251x.bin into /lib/firmware/, write into firmware_update sysfs attribute and wait about 30-40 seconds. The firmware update is slow. Afterward, verify the firmware_version and mode sysfs attributes to check whether the firmware got updated and the controller switched back to application (AP) mode by reading out 'mode' attribute in sysfs. Note that the content of firmware_version, e.g. 0600.0005.abcd.aa04 can be matched to the content of the firmware hex file. The first four bytes, 0x06 0x00 0x00 0x05 can be found at ^:102030 00 05000006, the next four bytes 0xab 0xcd 0xaa 0x04 at ^:10F000 00 nnnnnnnn ABCDAA04. Note that the protocol differs considerably between the ili2xxx devices, this patch therefore implements this functionality only for ili251x that I can test. Input: add I2C attached EETI EXC3000 multi touch driver The 3000 series have a new protocol which allows to report up to 5 points in a single 66 byte frame. One must always read in 66 byte frames. To support up to 10 points, two consecutive frames need to be read: The first frame says how many points until sync. The second frame must say zero points or both frames must be discarded. To be able to work with the higher 400KHz I2C bus rate, one must successfully send a special package prior _each_ read or the controller will refuse to cooperate. This is a minimal implementation based on egalax_i2c.c (which can be found on the internet) and egalax_ts.c but without the vendor interface and no power management support. Since it is not wasting much resources and is very straightforward, we simply provide all other adc channels as optional iio interfaces as weel. This can be used for debugging or special applications. This patch also splits the tsc2007 driver in several source files: tsc2007.h -- constants, structs and stubs tsc2007_core.c -- functional parts of the original driver tsc2007_iio.c -- the optional iio stuff Makefile magic allows to conditionally link the iio stuff if CONFIG_IIO=y or =m in a way that it works with CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_TSC2007=m. Input: goodix - reset device at init After power on, it is recommended that the driver resets the device. The reset procedure timing is described in the datasheet and is used at device init (before writing device configuration) and for power management. It is a sequence of setting the interrupt and reset pins high/low at specific timing intervals. This procedure also includes setting the slave address to the one specified in the ACPI/device tree. This is based on Goodix datasheets for GT911 and GT9271 and on Goodix driver gt9xx.c for Android (publicly available in Android kernel trees for various devices). For reset the driver needs to control the interrupt and reset gpio pins (configured through ACPI/device tree). For devices that do not have the gpio pins properly declared, the functionality depending on these pins will not be available, but the device can still be used with basic functionality. For both device tree and ACPI, the interrupt gpio pin configuration is read from the "irq-gpios" property and the reset pin configuration is read from the "reset-gpios" property. For ACPI 5.1, named properties can be specified using the _DSD section. This functionality will not be available for devices that use indexed gpio pins declared in the _CRS section (we need to provide backward compatibility with devices that do not support using the interrupt gpio pin as output). For ACPI, the pins can be specified using ACPI 5.1: Device (STAC) { Name (_HID, "GDIX1001") ... Method (_CRS, 0, Serialized) { Name (RBUF, ResourceTemplate () { I2cSerialBus (0x0014, ControllerInitiated, 0x00061A80, AddressingMode7Bit, "\\I2C0", 0x00, ResourceConsumer, , ) GpioInt (Edge, ActiveHigh, Exclusive, PullNone, 0x0000, "\\I2C0", 0x00, ResourceConsumer, , ) { // Pin list 0 } GpioIo (Exclusive, PullDown, 0x0000, 0x0000, IoRestrictionOutputOnly, "\\I2C0", 0x00, ResourceConsumer, , ) { 1 } }) Return (RBUF) } Name (_DSD, Package () { ToUUID("daffd814-6eba-4d8c-8a91-bc9bbf4aa301"), Package () { Package (2) {"irq-gpios", Package() {^STAC, 0, 0, 0 }}, Package (2) {"reset-gpios", Package() {^STAC, 1, 0, 0 }}, ... } } Signed-off-by: Octavian Purdila <octavian.purdila@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Irina Tirdea <irina.tirdea@intel.com> Acked-by: Rob Herring <robh@kernel.org> Acked-by: Bastien Nocera <hadess@hadess.net> Tested-by: Bastien Nocera <hadess@hadess.net> Tested-by: Aleksei Mamlin <mamlinav@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Dmitry Torokhov <dmitry.torokhov@gmail.com>

Input: add driver for Allwinner sunxi SoC's rtp controller Note the sun4i-ts controller is capable of detecting a second touch, but when a second touch is present then the accuracy becomes so bad the reported touch location is not useable. The original android driver contains some complicated heuristics using the aprox. distance between the 2 touches to see if the user is making a pinch open / close movement, and then reports emulated multi-touch events around the last touch coordinate (as the dual-touch coordinates are worthless). These kinds of heuristics are just asking for trouble (and don't belong in the kernel). So this driver offers straight forward, reliable single touch functionality only. tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTY The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway. bloat-o-meter output is below. The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than "depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies. bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk '$3 != "-"' as the list was very long. add/remove: 0/226 grow/shrink: 2/14 up/down: 6/-35356 (-35350) function old new delta chr_dev_init 166 170 +4 allow_signal 80 82 +2 static.__warned 143 142 -1 disallow_signal 63 62 -1 __set_special_pids 95 94 -1 unregister_console 126 121 -5 start_kernel 546 541 -5 register_console 593 588 -5 copy_from_user 45 40 -5 sys_setsid 128 120 -8 sys_vhangup 32 19 -13 do_exit 1543 1526 -17 bitmap_zero 60 40 -20 arch_local_irq_save 137 117 -20 release_task 674 652 -22 static.spin_unlock_irqrestore 308 260 -48 Signed-off-by: Joe Millenbach <jmillenbach@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Jamey Sharp <jamey@minilop.net> Reviewed-by: Josh Triplett <josh@joshtriplett.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERT The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. [ARM] pxa: fix the corgi_ssp.c dependency issue in {corgi,spitz}_defconfig Separate building of corgi_ssp.c, and introduce a new hidden config option CONFIG_CORGI_SSP_DEPRECATED for this. Aslo mark corgi_ts.c and corgi_bl.c as deprecated. This unbreaks the legacy configs in {corgi,spitz}_defconfig, however, SPI based ADS7846 touchscreen driver and a new SPI-based corgi_lcd.c driver with integrated backlight support are recommended. [PATCH] spi: ads7846 driver This is a driver for the ADS7846 touchscreen sensor, derived from the corgi_ts and omap_ts drivers. Key differences from those two: - Uses the new SPI framework (minimalist version) - <linux/spi/ads7846.h> abstracts board-specific touchscreen info - Sysfs attributes for the temperature and voltage sensors - Uses fewer ARM-specific IRQ primitives The temperature and voltage sensors show up in sysfs like this: $ pwd /sys/devices/platform/omap-uwire/spi2.0 $ ls bus@ input:event0@ power/ temp1 vbatt driver@ modalias temp0 vaux $ cat modalias ads7846 $ cat temp0 991 $ cat temp1 1177 $ So far only basic testing has been done. There's a fair amount of hardware that uses this sensor, and which also runs Linux, which should eventually be able to use this driver. One portability note may be of special interest. It turns out that not all SPI controllers are happy issuing requests that do things like "write 8 bit command, read 12 bit response". Most of them seem happy to handle various word sizes, so the issue isn't "12 bit response" but rather "different rx and tx write sizes", despite that being a common MicroWire convention. So this version of the driver no longer reads 12 bit native-endian words; it reads 16-bit big-endian responses, then byteswaps them and shifts the results to discard the noise. Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
