iio: adc: vf610_adc: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. iio: adc: vf610_adc: vf610_adc: do not use internal iio_dev lock In order to drop the internal lock usage we needed two different things: 1) The first place where 'mlock' was being used was a typical case where iio_device_claim_direct_mode() fits perfectly. 2) In the second case, it was being used to prevent concurrent accesses to the device and shared data but nothing was being enforced with regards to buffering (i.e, there was nothing preventing from changing the conversion mode while buffering). Hence, in this case, a new lock was introduced in the state structure. Note that the goal is not to introduce any functional change and that is the reason why a new lock was introduced to guarantee 2). While at it, properly include "mutex.h" for mutex related APIs. iio: Move attach/detach of the poll func to the core All devices using a triggered buffer need to attach and detach the trigger to the device in order to properly work. Instead of doing this in each and every driver by hand move this into the core. At this point in time, all drivers should have been resolved to attach/detach the poll-function in the same order. This patch removes all explicit calls of iio_triggered_buffer_postenable() & iio_triggered_buffer_predisable() in all drivers, since the core handles now the pollfunc attach/detach. The more peculiar change is for the 'at91-sama5d2_adc' driver, since it's not immediately obvious that removing the hooks doesn't break anything. Eugen was able to test on at91-sama5d2-adc driver, sama5d2-xplained board. All seems to be fine. iio: Remove superfluous of_node assignments If a driver does not assign an of_node to a IIO device to IIO core will automatically assign the of_node of the parent device. This automatic assignment is done in the iio_device_register() function. There is a fair amount of drivers that currently manually assign the of_node of the IIO device. All but 4 of them can make use of the automatic assignment though. The exceptions are: * mxs-lradc-adc: Which uses the of_node of the parent of the parent. * stm32-dfsdm-adc, stm32-adc and stm32-dac: Which reference the of_node assigned to the IIO device before iio_device_register() is called. All other drivers are updated to use automatic assignment. This reduces the amount of boilerplate code involved in setting up the IIO device. This semantic patch also removes some comments like '/* Establish that the iio_dev is a child of the i2c device */' But this is is only done in case where the block is left empty. The patch does not seem to cover all cases. It looks like in some cases a different variable is used in some cases to assign the parent, but it points to the same reference. In other cases, the block covered by ... may be just too big to be covered by the semantic patch. However, this looks pretty good as well, as it does cover a big bulk of the drivers that should remove the parent assignment. Those typical values are valid for VREFH_ADC at 3.0V. VTEMP25 is different for different VREFH_ADC voltages. With VREFH_ADC at 3.3V, voltage at 25°C is 0.699V. iio: adc: vf610: Determine sampling frequencies by using minimum sample time The driver currently does not take into account the minimum sample time as per the Figure 6-8 Chapter 9.1.1 12-bit ADC electrical characteristics. We set a static amount of cycles instead of considering the sample time as a given value, which depends on hardware characteristics. Determine sampling frequencies by first reading the device tree property node and then calculating the required Long Sample Time Adder (LSTAdder) value, based on the ADC clock frequency and sample time value obtained from the device tree. This LSTAdder value is then used for calculating the sampling frequencies possible. In case the sample time property is not specified through the device tree, a safe default value of 1000ns is assumed. iio: adc: vf610: use ADC clock within specification Depending on conversion mode used, the ADC clock (ADCK) needs to be below a maximum frequency. According to Vybrid's data sheet this is 20MHz for the low power conversion mode. The ADC clock is depending on input clock, which is the bus clock by default. Vybrid SoC are typically clocked at at 400MHz or 500MHz, which leads to 66MHz or 83MHz bus clock respectively. Hence, a divider of 8 is required to stay below the specified maximum clock of 20MHz. Due to the different bus clock speeds, the resulting sampling frequency is not static. Hence use the ADC clock and calculate the actual available sampling frequency dynamically. This fixes bogous values observed on some 500MHz clocked Vybrid SoC. The resulting value usually showed Bit 9 being stuck at 1, or 0, which lead to a value of +/-512. iio: adc: vf610: Propagate the real error when platform_get_irq() fails There is no need to pass a 'fake' return value when platform_get_irq() fails. Propagate the real error instead. iio:adc:vf610-adc: Add temperature sensor support Vybrid ADC peripheral includes a temperature sensor which is connected to channel number 26. This patch adds support for the sensor. The raw value is read and the temperature calculated in milli degree Celsius, which is returned using IIO_CHAN_INFO_PROCESSED option.
