drm/vmwgfx: Fix prime import/export vmwgfx never supported prime import of external buffers. Furthermore the driver exposes two different objects to userspace: vmw_surface's and gem buffers but prime import/export only worked with vmw_surfaces. Because gem buffers are used through the dumb_buffer interface this meant that the driver created buffers couldn't have been prime exported or imported. Fix prime import/export. Makes IGT's kms_prime pass. drm/vmwgfx: Port the framebuffer code to drm fb helpers Instead of using vmwgfx specific framebuffer implementation use the drm fb helpers. There's no change in functionality, the only difference is a reduction in the amount of code inside the vmwgfx module. drm fb helpers do not deal correctly with changes in crtc preferred mode at runtime, but the old fb code wasn't dealing with it either. Same situation applies to high-res fb consoles - the old code was limited to 1176x885 because it was checking for legacy/deprecated memory limites, the drm fb helpers are limited to the initial resolution set on fb due to first problem (drm fb helpers being unable to handle hotplug crtc preferred mode changes). drm/vmwgfx: Implement DRIVER_GEM This is initial change adding support for DRIVER_GEM to vmwgfx. vmwgfx was written before GEM and has always used TTM. Over the years the TTM buffers started inherting from GEM objects but vmwgfx never implemented GEM making it quite awkward. We were directly setting variables in GEM objects to not make DRM crash. This change brings vmwgfx inline with other DRM drivers and allows us to use a lot of DRM helpers which have depended on drivers with GEM support. Due to historical reasons vmwgfx splits the idea of a buffer and surface which makes it a littly tricky since either one can be used in most of our ioctl's which take user space handles. For now our BO's are GEM objects and our surfaces are opaque objects which are backed by GEM objects. In the future I'd like to combine those into a single BO but we don't want to break any of our existing ioctl's so it will take time to do it in a non-destructive way. drm/vmwgfx: Remove the dedicated memory accounting vmwgfx shared very elaborate memory accounting with ttm. It was moved from ttm to vmwgfx in change f07069da6b4c ("drm/ttm: move memory accounting into vmwgfx v4") but because of complexity it was hard to maintain. Some parts of the code weren't freeing memory correctly and some were missing accounting all together. While those would be fairly easy to fix the fundamental reason for memory accounting in the driver was the ability to invoke shrinker which is part of TTM code as well (with support for unified memory hopefully coming soon). That meant that vmwgfx had a lot of code that was either unused or duplicating code from TTM. Removing this code also prevents excessive calls to global swapout which were common during memory pressure because both vmwgfx and TTM would invoke the shrinker when memory usage reached half of RAM. drm/vmwgfx: Introduce a new placement for MOB page tables For larger (bigger than a page) and noncontiguous mobs we have to create page tables that allow the host to find the memory. Those page tables just used regular system memory. Unfortunately in TTM those BO's are not allowed to be busy thus can't be fenced and we have to fence those bo's because we don't want to destroy the page tables while the host is still executing the command buffers which might be accessing them. To solve it we introduce a new placement VMW_PL_SYSTEM which is very similar to TTM_PL_SYSTEM except that it allows fencing. This fixes kernel oops'es during unloading of the driver (and pci hot remove/add) which were caused by busy BO's in TTM_PL_SYSTEM being present in the delayed deletion list in TTM (TTM_PL_SYSTEM manager is destroyed before the delayed deletions are executed) Signed-off-by: Zack Rusin <zackr@vmware.com> Reviewed-by: Martin Krastev <krastevm@vmware.com> Cc: Christian König <christian.koenig@amd.com> Cc: Thomas Hellström <thomas.hellstrom@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20211105193845.258816-5-zackr@vmware.com

drm/ttm: remove ttm_bo_vm_insert_huge() The huge page functionality in TTM does not work safely because PUD and PMD entries do not have a special bit. get_user_pages_fast() considers any page that passed pmd_huge() as usable: if (unlikely(pmd_trans_huge(pmd) || pmd_huge(pmd) || pmd_devmap(pmd))) { And vmf_insert_pfn_pmd_prot() unconditionally sets entry = pmd_mkhuge(pfn_t_pmd(pfn, prot)); eg on x86 the page will be _PAGE_PRESENT | PAGE_PSE. As such gup_huge_pmd() will try to deref a struct page: head = try_grab_compound_head(pmd_page(orig), refs, flags); and thus crash. Thomas further notices that the drivers are not expecting the struct page to be used by anything - in particular the refcount incr above will cause them to malfunction. Thus everything about this is not able to fully work correctly considering GUP_fast. Delete it entirely. It can return someday along with a proper PMD/PUD_SPECIAL bit in the page table itself to gate GUP_fast. drm/vmwgfx: Be more restrictive when dirtying resources Currently we flag resources as dirty (GPU contents not yet read back to the backing MOB) whenever they have been part of a command stream. Obviously many resources can't be dirty and others can only be dirty when written to by the GPU. That is when they are either bound to the context as render-targets, depth-stencil, copy / clear destinations and stream-output targets, or similarly when there are corresponding views into them. So mark resources dirty only in these special cases. Context- and cotable resources are always marked dirty when referenced. This is important for upcoming emulated coherent memory, since we can avoid issuing automatic readbacks to non-dirty resources when the CPU tries to access part of the backing MOB. Testing: Unigine Heaven with max GPU memory set to 256MB resulting in heavy resource thrashing. --- v2: Addressed review comments by Deepak Rawat. v3: Added some documentation Signed-off-by: Thomas Hellstrom <thellstrom@vmware.com> Reviewed-by: Deepak Rawat <drawat@vmware.com>

drm/vmwgfx: Remove the resource avail field This field was previously used to prevent a lookup of a resource before its constructor had run to its end. This was mainly intended for an interface that is now removed that allowed looking up a resource by its device id. Currently all affected resources are added to the lookup mechanism (its TTM prime object is initialized) late in the constructor where it's OK to look up the resource. drm/vmwgfx: Replace vmw_dma_buffer with vmw_buffer_object Initially vmware buffer objects were only used as DMA buffers, so the name DMA buffer was a natural one. However, currently they are used also as dumb buffers and MOBs backing guest backed objects so renaming them to buffer objects is logical. Particularly since there is a dmabuf subsystem in the kernel where a dma buffer means something completely different. This also renames user-space api structures and IOCTL names correspondingly, but the old names remain defined for now and the ABI hasn't changed. The blit utility also adds a provision to compute a bounding box of changed content, which is very useful to optimize presentation speed of ill-behaved applications that don't supply proper damage regions, and for page-flips. drm/vmwgfx: Map the fifo as cached On the guest kernel side, previously the FIFO has been mapped write- combined. This has worked since VMs up to now has not honored the mapping type and mapped the FIFO cached anyway. Since the FIFO is accessed cached by the CPU on the virtual device side, this leads to inconsistent mappings once the guest starts to honor the mapping types. So ask for cached mappings when we map the FIFO. We do this by using ioremap_cache() instead of ioremap_wc(), and remove the MTRR setup. On the TTM side, MOBs, GMRs and VRAM buffers are already requesting cached mappings for kernel- and user-space. drm/vmwgfx: Fix up user_dmabuf refcounting If user space calls unreference on a user_dmabuf it will typically kill the struct ttm_base_object member which is responsible for the user-space visibility. However the dmabuf part may still be alive and refcounted. In some situations, like for shared guest-backed surface referencing/opening, the driver may try to reference the struct ttm_base_object member again, causing an immediate kernel warning and a later kernel NULL pointer dereference. Fix this by always maintaining a reference on the struct ttm_base_object member, in situations where it might subsequently be referenced. In this case, the DMA buf can be pinned as the display surface, saving an extra copy. This only works in a 2D VM because we won't be doing any rendering operations directly to the display surface. v2 * Moved is_dmabuf_proxy field to vmw_framebuffer_surface * Undone coding style changes * Addressed other issues from review Signed-off-by: Sinclair Yeh <syeh@vmware.com> Reviewed-by: Thomas Hellstrom <thellstrom@vmware.com>

This is of course more costly, but we don't perform much register access in the timing critical paths anyway. drm/vmwgfx: remove ->firstopen callback So if we survey kms drivers there's a bunch of things they commonly do in ->lastclose - delayed processing of vga switcheroo requests (i915, nouveau, radeon) - force-restoring the fbcon (most) - resetting a bunch properties to make fbcon work better (omap) - disabling all outputs (vmwgfx) In short besides the semantically important vga switcheroo stuff they all try very hard to keep fbcon working in case X dies. But none of them try to not do this at driver unload time safe for vmwgfx, and digging through logs I couldn't find any reason for why vmwgfx is special. Since ->firstopen has lots of potential for abuse with kms drivers (like delaying driver setup to pamper over races in the load sequence) it's imo very much worth it to remove this logic so that we can stop using the ->firstopen callback for kms drivers. Also module unloading is rather a debug feature and developers should know how to restore the display to a sane configuration. vmwgfx: Fix up query processing Previously, query results could be placed in any buffer object, but since we didn't allow pinned buffer objects, query results could be written when that buffer was evicted, corrupting data in other buffers. Now, require that buffers holding query results are no more than two pages large, and allow one single pinned such buffer. When the command submission code encounters query result structures in other buffers, the queries in the pinned buffer will be finished using a query barrier for the last hardware context using the buffer. Also if the command submission code detects that a new hardware context is used for queries, all queries of the previous hardware context is also flushed. Currently we use waiting for a no-op occlusion query as a query barrier for a specific context. drm/vmwgfx: Drop scanout flag compat and add execbuf ioctl parameter members. Bumps major. Even if this bumps the version to 1 it does not mean the driver is out of staging. From what we know this is the last backwards incompatible change to the driver. drm/vmwgfx: Update the user-space interface. When time-based throttling is implemented, we need to bump minor. When the old way of detecting scanout is removed, we need to bump major. In the meantime, this change should not break existing user-space. drm/vmwgfx: Optimize memory footprint for DMA buffers. Use VRAM whenever there is free space for DMA buffers, but use system GMR memory if using VRAM would cause an eviction. This significantly reduces the guest system memory usage for VMs with a large amount of VRAM allocated. drm/vmwgfx: Implement basic pm operations. Currently we really only support S3, since the device doesn't support saving of the 3D state. On S3/S4, move all buffer objects to swappable memory and take down GMR bindings. We need to do that from a PM notifier since we can't do persistant memory allocations from the standard PM callbacks. drm/vmwgfx: Use bo_driver::move_notify to unbind GMRs. This was previously done explicitly for overlay- and fb buffers. Now it's done for any buffer leaving the SYSTEM memory region. Signed-off-by: Thomas Hellstrom <thellstrom@vmware.com> Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

drm/vmwgfx: Use TTM handles instead of SIDs as user-space surface handles. Improve the command verifier to catch all occurences of surface handles, and translate to SIDs. This way DMA buffers and 3D surfaces share a common handle space, which makes it possible for the kms code to differentiate. drm/vmwgfx: Add DRM driver for VMware Virtual GPU This commit adds the vmwgfx driver for the VWware Virtual GPU aka SVGA. The driver is under staging the same as Nouveau and Radeon KMS. Hopefully the 2D ioctls are bug free and don't need changing, so that part of the API should be stable. But there there is a pretty big chance that the 3D API will change in the future.
