drm/radeon: Implement client-based fbdev emulation Implement fbdev emulation on top of struct drm_client and its helpers. Replaces ad-hoc interfaces for restoring and closing fbdev emulation with per-client callbacks for hotplugging, restoring and unregistering. A single function, radeon_fbdev_setup(), starts fbdev emulation after the DRM device has been registered. Hence, fbdev acts like a regular DRM client. The setup call prepares the fbdev emulation and invokes connector hotplugging. The first successful hotplug event initializes fbdev emulation with a framebuffer, device file, etc. Unregistering depends on the hotplug status. Fully initialized emulation is cleaned up through drm_fb_helper_unregister_info() and fb_destroy. For prepared-only setups, unregistering unprepares the emulation and releases all resources. In both cases, fbdev emulation will be cleaned up. drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.h Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I expect. v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs. v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits: - (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged). - sort alphabetically v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I touch. v6: Rebase onto i915 changes. v7: Rebase once more. drm/radeon: Prevent races on pre DCE4 between flip submission and completion. Pre DCE4 hw doesn't have reliable pageflip completion interrupts, so instead polling for flip completion is used from within the vblank irq handler to complete page flips. This causes a race if pageflip ioctl is called close to vblank: 1. pageflip ioctl queues execution of radeon_flip_work_func. 2. vblank irq fires, radeon_crtc_handle_vblank checks for flip_status == FLIP_SUBMITTED finds none, no-ops. 3. radeon_flip_work_func runs inside vblank, decides to set flip_status == FLIP_SUBMITTED and programs the flip into hw. 4. hw executes flip immediately (because in vblank), but as 2 already happened, the flip completion routine only emits the flip completion event one refresh later -> wrong vblank count/timestamp for completion and no performance gain, as instead of delaying the flip until next vblank, we now delay the next flip by 1 refresh while waiting for the delayed flip completion event. Given we often don't gain anything due to this race, but lose precision, prevent the programmed flip from executing in vblank on pre DCE4 asics to avoid this race. On pre-AVIVO hw we can't program the hw for edge-triggered flips, they always execute anywhere in vblank. Therefore delay the actual flip programming until after vblank on pre-AVIVO. As vblank irqs fire a bit before start of vblank (when the linebuffer fifo read position reaches end of scanout), we have some fudge for flip completion handling in the last lines of active scanout. Old code assumed the threshold to be 99% of active scanout height, a ballpark estimate which worked ok. Since we know since a while how to calculate the actual threshold from linebuffer size, lets make use of it to get a more accurate threshold. This completion path is still prone to some races in corner cases, especially on pre-AVIVO hardware, so document them a bit better in the code comments. drm/radeon: Remove deprecated create_singlethread_workqueue alloc_workqueue replaces deprecated create_singlethread_workqueue(). Each hardware CRTC has a single flip work queue. When a radeon_flip_work_func item is queued, it needs to be executed ASAP because even a slight delay may cause the flip to be delayed by one refresh cycle. Hence, a dedicated workqueue with WQ_HIGHPRI set, has been used here since a delay can cause the outcome to miss the refresh cycle. drm/radeon: Don't hang in radeon_flip_work_func on disabled crtc. (v2) This fixes a regression introduced in Linux 4.4. Limit the amount of time radeon_flip_work_func can delay programming a page flip, by both limiting the maximum amount of time per wait cycle and the maximum number of wait cycles. Continue the flip if the limit is exceeded, even if that may result in a visual or timing glitch. This is to prevent a hang of page flips, as reported in fdo bug #93746: Disconnecting a DisplayPort display in parallel to a kms pageflip getting queued can cause the following hang of page flips and thereby an unusable desktop: 1. kms pageflip ioctl() queues pageflip -> queues execution of radeon_flip_work_func. 2. Hotunplug of display causes the driver to DPMS OFF the unplugged display. Display engine shuts down, scanout no longer moves, but stays at its resting position at start line of vblank. 3. radeon_flip_work_func executes while crtc is off, and due to the non-moving scanout position, the new flip delay code introduced into Linux 4.4 by commit 5b5561b3660d ("drm/radeon: Fixup hw vblank counter/ts..") enters an infinite wait loop. 4. After reconnecting the display, the pageflip continues to hang in 3. and the display doesn't update its view of the desktop. This patch fixes the Linux 4.4 regression from fdo bug #93746 <https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93746> v2: Skip wait immediately if !radeon_crtc->enabled, as suggested by Michel. drm/radeon: Fixup hw vblank counter/ts for new drm_update_vblank_count() (v2) commit 4dfd6486 "drm: Use vblank timestamps to guesstimate how many vblanks were missed" introduced in Linux 4.4-rc1 makes the drm core more fragile to drivers which don't update hw vblank counters and vblank timestamps in sync with firing of the vblank irq and essentially at leading edge of vblank. This exposed a problem with radeon-kms/amdgpu-kms which do not satisfy above requirements: The vblank irq fires a few scanlines before start of vblank, but programmed pageflips complete at start of vblank and vblank timestamps update at start of vblank, whereas the hw vblank counter increments only later, at start of vsync. This leads to problems like off by one errors for vblank counter updates, vblank counters apparently going backwards or vblank timestamps apparently having time going backwards. The net result is stuttering of graphics in games, or little hangs, as well as total failure of timing sensitive applications. See bug #93147 for an example of the regression on Linux 4.4-rc: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93147 This patch tries to align all above events better from the viewpoint of the drm core / of external callers to fix the problem: 1. The apparent start of vblank is shifted a few scanlines earlier, so the vblank irq now always happens after start of this extended vblank interval and thereby drm_update_vblank_count() always samples the updated vblank count and timestamp of the new vblank interval. To achieve this, the reporting of scanout positions by radeon_get_crtc_scanoutpos() now operates as if the vblank starts radeon_crtc->lb_vblank_lead_lines before the real start of the hw vblank interval. This means that the vblank timestamps which are based on these scanout positions will now update at this earlier start of vblank. 2. The driver->get_vblank_counter() function will bump the returned vblank count as read from the hw by +1 if the query happens after the shifted earlier start of the vblank, but before the real hw increment at start of vsync, so the counter appears to increment at start of vblank in sync with the timestamp update. 3. Calls from vblank irq-context and regular non-irq calls are now treated identical, always simulating the shifted vblank start, to avoid inconsistent results for queries happening from vblank irq vs. happening from drm_vblank_enable() or vblank_disable_fn(). 4. The radeon_flip_work_func will delay mmio programming a pageflip until the start of the real vblank iff it happens to execute inside the shifted earlier start of the vblank, so pageflips now also appear to execute at start of the shifted vblank, in sync with vblank counter and timestamp updates. This to avoid some races between updates of vblank count and timestamps that are used for swap scheduling and pageflip execution which could cause pageflips to execute before the scheduled target vblank. The lb_vblank_lead_lines "fudge" value is calculated as the size of the display controllers line buffer in scanlines for the given video mode: Vblank irq's are triggered by the line buffer logic when the line buffer refill for a video frame ends, ie. when the line buffer source read position enters the hw vblank. This means that a vblank irq could fire at most as many scanlines before the current reported scanout position of the crtc timing generator as the number of scanlines the line buffer can maximally hold for a given video mode. This patch has been successfully tested on a RV730 card with DCE-3 display engine and on a evergreen card with DCE-4 display engine, in single-display and dual-display configuration, with different video modes. A similar patch is needed for amdgpu-kms to fix the same problem. Release the event lock during waits to not delay other outputs in doing their stuff, as the waiting can last up to 200 usecs in some cases. drm/radeon: add an output_csc property This adds the drm property for output csc (e.g., transform of output display colorspace). Currently only common ones (TV RGB, BT.601, BT.709) are supported, but bypass and tv rgb are really the only useful ones at the moment. Additionally we could expose a user adjustable matrix in the future. This commit just adds the property. The hw support will be added in subsequent patches. bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83226 Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

drm/radeon: Use pflip irqs for pageflip completion if possible. (v2) Skip the "manual" pageflip completion checks via polling and guessing in the vblank handler radeon_crtc_handle_vblank() on asics which are known to reliably support hw pageflip completion irqs. Those pflip irqs are a more reliable and race-free method of handling pageflip completion detection, whereas the "classic" polling method has some small races in combination with dpm on, and with the reworked pageflip implementation since Linux 3.16. On old asics without pflip irqs, the classic method is used. On asics with known good pflip irqs, only pflip irqs are used by default, but a new module parameter "use_pflipirqs" allows to override this in case we encounter asics in the wild with unreliable or faulty pflip irqs. A module parameter of 0 allows to use the classic method only in such a case. A parameter of 1 allows to use both classic method and pflip irqs as additional band-aid to avoid some small races which could happen with the classic method alone. The setting 1 gives Linux 3.16 behaviour. Hw pflip irqs are available since R600. Tested on DCE-4, AMD Cedar - FirePro 2270. v2: agd5f: only enable pflip interrupts on DCE4+ as they are not reliable on older asics. drm/radeon: Make classic pageflip completion path less racy. Need to protect mmio flip programming by event lock as well. Need to also first enable pflip irq, then mmio program, otherwise a flip completion may get unnoticed in the vblank of actual completion if the flip is programmed, but radeon_flip_work_func gets preempted immediately after mmio programming and before vblank. In that case the vblank irq handler wouldn't run radeon_crtc_handle_vblank() with the completion check routine, miss the completed flip, and only notice one vblank after actual completion, causing a false/delayed report of flip completion. drm/radeon: Move the early vblank IRQ fixup to radeon_get_crtc_scanoutpos() i915 doesn't need this kludge for most platforms. Although we do appear to need something similar on certain platforms, but we can be more accurate when we apply the adjustment since we know exactly why the scanline counter doesn't always quite match the vblank status. Also the current code doesn't handle interlaced modes correctly, and we already deal with interlaced modes in i915 code. drm/<drivers>: reorder framebuffer init sequence With more fine-grained locking we can no longer rely on the big mode_config lock to prevent concurrent access to mode resources like framebuffers. Instead a framebuffer becomes accessible to other threads as soon as it is added to the relevant lookup structures. Hence it needs to be fully set up by the time drivers call drm_framebuffer_init. This patch here is the drivers part of that reorg. Nothing really fancy going on safe for three special cases. - exynos needs to be careful to properly unref all handles. - nouveau gets a resource leak fixed for free: one of the error cases didn't cleanup the framebuffer, which is now moot since the framebuffer is only registered once it is fully set up. - vmwgfx requires a slight reordering of operations, I'm hoping I didn't break anything (but it's refcount management only, so should be safe). v2: Split out exynos, since it's a bit more hairy than expected. v3: Drop bogus cirrus hunk noticed by Richard Wilbur. v4: Split out vmwgfx since there's a small change in return values. drm/radeon: fix deferred page-flip detection logic on Avivo-based ASICs This fixes page-flip-related flickering observed on Iconia Tab W500. The update_pending status returned by radeon_page_flip is very accurate on Avivo-based ASICs when vpos is negative. Experiments were conducted on several ASIC generations ranging from RS690 to Cayman where the page flip was artificially timed to occur at a specific vpos. With negative vpos, overriding update_pending always lead to flickering. The same experiment on RV380 and RV410 showed that update_pending is not accurate with negative vpos. In most cases update_pending == 1 is returned although the flip would complete before the start of the next frame. Therefore I left the behaviour unchanged for pre-AVIVO ASICs for performance reasons, although this may result in flickering in rare cases. This change also makes the logic a little easier to understand. drm/radeon: Extended DDC Probing for Connectors with Improperly Wired DDC Lines (here: Asus M2A-VM HDMI) Some integrated ATI Radeon chipset implementations with add-on HDMI card (e. g. Asus M2A-VM HDMI) indicate the availability of a DDC even when the add-on card is not plugged in or HDMI is disabled in BIOS setup. In this case, drm_get_edid() and drm_edid_block_valid() periodically dump data and kernel errors into system log files and onto terminals. For these connectors DDC probing is extended by a check for a correct EDID header. Only in case a valid EDID header is also found, the (HDMI or DVI) connector will be used by the Radeon driver. This prevents the kernel driver from useless flooding of logs and terminal sessions with EDID dumps and error messages. This patch adds a flag 'requires_extended_probe' to the radeon_connector structure. In function radeon_connector_needs_extended_probe() this flag can be set on a chipset family/vendor/connector type specific basis. In addition, function radeon_ddc_probe() has been adapted to perform extended DDC probing if required by the connector's flag. Requires function drm_edid_header_is_valid() in DRM module provided by [PATCH] drm: Separate EDID Header Check from EDID Block Check. drm/kms/radeon: Add support for precise vblank timestamping. This patch adds new functions for use by the drm core: .get_vblank_timestamp() provides a precise timestamp for the end of the most recent (or current) vblank interval of a given crtc, as needed for the DRI2 implementation of the OML_sync_control extension. It is a thin wrapper around the drm function drm_calc_vbltimestamp_from_scanoutpos() which does almost all the work and is shared across drivers. .get_scanout_position() provides the current horizontal and vertical video scanout position and "in vblank" status of a given crtc, as needed by the drm for use by drm_calc_vbltimestamp_from_scanoutpos(). The function is also used by the dynamic gpu reclocking code to determine when it is safe to reclock inside vblank. For that purpose radeon_pm_in_vbl() is modified to accomodate a small change in the function prototype of the radeon_get_crtc_scanoutpos() which is hooked up to .get_scanout_position(). This code has been tested on AVIVO hardware, a RV530 (ATI Mobility Radeon X1600) in a Intel Core-2 Duo MacBookPro and some R600 variant (FireGL V7600) in a single cpu AMD Athlon 64 PC. drm/radeon: Add function for display scanout position query. radeon_get_crtc_scanoutpos() returns the current horizontal and vertical scanout position of a crtc. It also reports if the display scanout is currently inside the vblank area. hpos reports current horizontal pixel scanout position. vpos reports the current scanned out line as a value >= 0 in active scanout. If the scanout is inside vblank area, it reports a negative value, the number of scanlines until end of vblank aka start of active scanout, e.g., -3 == "At most 3 scanlines until end of vblank". drm/gem: handlecount isn't really a kref so don't make it one. There were lots of places being inconsistent since handle count looked like a kref but it really wasn't. Fix this my just making handle count an atomic on the object, and have it increase the normal object kref. Now i915/radeon/nouveau drivers can drop the normal reference on userspace object creation, and have the handle hold it. This patch fixes a memory leak or corruption on unload, because the driver had no way of knowing if a handle had been actually added for this object, and the fbcon object needed to know this to clean itself up properly. drm/radeon/kms/pm: rework power management - Separate dynpm and profile based power management methods. You can select the pm method by echoing the selected method ("dynpm" or "profile") to power_method in sysfs. - Expose basic 4 profile in profile method "default" - default clocks "auto" - select between low and high based on ac/dc state "low" - DC, low power mode "high" - AC, performance mode The current base profile is "default", but it should switched to "auto" once we've tested on more systems. Switching the state is a matter of echoing the requested profile to power_profile in sysfs. The lowest power states are selected automatically when dpms turns the monitors off in all states but default. - Remove dynamic fence-based reclocking for the moment. We can revisit this later once we have basic pm in. - Move pm init/fini to modesetting path. pm is tightly coupled with display state. Make sure display side is initialized before pm. - Add pm suspend/resume functions to make sure pm state is properly reinitialized on resume. - Remove dynpm module option. We pin when an fb is associated to a crtc and unpin when the fb is disassociated from the crtc. Note: Maybe we should take reference on fb in set_base callback so fb doesn't disappear until it's unbind from ctrc. drm/fb: add more correct 8/16/24/32 bpp fb support. The previous patches had some unwanted side effects, I've fixed the lack of 32bpp working, and fixed up 16bpp so it should also work. this also adds the interface to allow the driver to set a preferred console depth so for example low memory rn50 can set it to 8bpp. It also catches 24bpp on cards that can't do it and forces 32bpp. Tested on r100/r600/i945. drm/kms: move driver specific fb common code to helper functions (v2) Initially I always meant this code to be shared, but things ran away from me before I got to it. This refactors the i915 and radeon kms fbdev interaction layers out into generic helpers + driver specific pieces. It moves all the panic/sysrq enhancements to the core file, and stores a linked list of kernel fbs. This could possibly be improved to only store the fb which has fbcon on it for panics etc. radeon retains some specific codes used for a big endian workaround. changes: fix oops in v1 fix freeing path for crtc_info Reviewed-by: Jesse Barnes <jbarnes@virtuousgeek.org> Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

drm/radeon: introduce kernel modesetting for radeon hardware Add kernel modesetting support to radeon driver, use the ttm memory manager to manage memory and DRM/GEM to provide userspace API. In order to avoid backward compatibility issue and to allow clean design and code the radeon kernel modesetting use different code path than old radeon/drm driver. When kernel modesetting is enabled the IOCTL of radeon/drm driver are considered as invalid and an error message is printed in the log and they return failure. KMS enabled userspace will use new API to talk with the radeon/drm driver. The new API provide functions to create/destroy/share/mmap buffer object which are then managed by the kernel memory manager (here TTM). In order to submit command to the GPU the userspace provide a buffer holding the command stream, along this buffer userspace have to provide a list of buffer object used by the command stream. The kernel radeon driver will then place buffer in GPU accessible memory and will update command stream to reflect the position of the different buffers. The kernel will also perform security check on command stream provided by the user, we want to catch and forbid any illegal use of the GPU such as DMA into random system memory or into memory not owned by the process supplying the command stream. This part of the code is still incomplete and this why we propose that patch as a staging driver addition, future security might forbid current experimental userspace to run. This code support the following hardware : R1XX,R2XX,R3XX,R4XX,R5XX (radeon up to X1950). Works is underway to provide support for R6XX, R7XX and newer hardware (radeon from HD2XXX to HD4XXX).
