Revert "drm/msm/dp: use drm_bridge_hpd_notify() to report HPD status changes" This reverts commit e467e0bde881 ("drm/msm/dp: use drm_bridge_hpd_notify() to report HPD status changes"). The commit changed the way how the MSM DP driver communicates HPD-related events to the userspace. The mentioned commit made some of the HPD events being reported earlier. This way userspace starts poking around. It interacts in a bad way with the dp_bridge_detect and the driver's state machine, ending up either with the very long delays during hotplug detection or even inability of the DP driver to report the display as connected. A proper fix will involve redesigning of the HPD handling in the MSM DP driver. It is underway, but it will be intrusive and can not be thought about as a simple fix for the issue. Thus, revert the offending commit. drm/msm/dp: incorporate pm_runtime framework into DP driver Currently DP driver is executed independent of PM runtime framework. This leads msm eDP panel can not being detected by edp_panel driver during generic_edp_panel_probe() due to AUX DPCD read failed at edp panel driver. Incorporate PM runtime framework into DP driver so that host controller's power and clocks are enable/disable through PM runtime mechanism. Once PM runtime framework is incorporated into DP driver, waking up device from power up path is not necessary. Hence remove it. After incorporating pm_runtime framework into eDP/DP driver, dp_pm_suspend() to handle power off both DP phy and controller during suspend and dp_pm_resume() to handle power on both DP phy and controller during resume are not necessary. Therefore both dp_pm_suspend() and dp_pm_resume() are dropped and replace with dp_pm_runtime_suspend() and dp_pm_runtime_resume() respectively. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. drm/msm/dp: Drop aux devices together with DP controller Using devres to depopulate the aux bus made sure that upon a probe deferral the EDP panel device would be destroyed and recreated upon next attempt. But the struct device which the devres is tied to is the DPUs (drm_dev->dev), which may be happen after the DP controller is torn down. Indications of this can be seen in the commonly seen EDID-hexdump full of zeros in the log, or the occasional/rare KASAN fault where the panel's attempt to read the EDID information causes a use after free on DP resources. It's tempting to move the devres to the DP controller's struct device, but the resources used by the device(s) on the aux bus are explicitly torn down in the error path. The KASAN-reported use-after-free also remains, as the DP aux "module" explicitly frees its devres-allocated memory in this code path. As such, explicitly depopulate the aux bus in the error path, and in the component unbind path, to avoid these issues. drm/msm/dp: Return IRQ_NONE for unhandled interrupts If our interrupt handler gets called and we don't really handle the interrupt then we should return IRQ_NONE. The current interrupt handler didn't do this, so let's fix it. NOTE: for some of the cases it's clear that we should return IRQ_NONE and some cases it's clear that we should return IRQ_HANDLED. However, there are a few that fall somewhere in between. Specifically, the documentation for when to return IRQ_NONE vs. IRQ_HANDLED is probably best spelled out in the commit message of commit d9e4ad5badf4 ("Document that IRQ_NONE should be returned when IRQ not actually handled"). That commit makes it clear that we should return IRQ_HANDLED if we've done something to make the interrupt stop happening. The case where it's unclear is, for instance, in dp_aux_isr() after we've read the interrupt using dp_catalog_aux_get_irq() and confirmed that "isr" is non-zero. The function dp_catalog_aux_get_irq() not only reads the interrupts but it also "ack"s all the interrupts that are returned. For an "unknown" interrupt this has a very good chance of actually stopping the interrupt from happening. That would mean we've identified that it's our device and done something to stop them from happening and should return IRQ_HANDLED. Specifically, it should be noted that most interrupts that need "ack"ing are ones that are one-time events and doing an "ack" is enough to clear them. However, since these interrupts are unknown then, by definition, it's unknown if "ack"ing them is truly enough to clear them. It's possible that we also need to remove the original source of the interrupt. In this case, IRQ_NONE would be a better choice. Given that returning an occasional IRQ_NONE isn't the absolute end of the world, however, let's choose that course of action. The IRQ framework will forgive a few IRQ_NONE returns now and again (and it won't even log them, which is why we have to log them ourselves). This means that if we _do_ end hitting an interrupt where "ack"ing isn't enough the kernel will eventually detect the problem and shut our device down. drm/msm/dp: Remove INIT_SETUP delay During initalization of the DisplayPort controller an EV_HPD_INIT_SETUP event is generated, but with a delay of 100 units. This delay existed to circumvent bug in the QMP combo PHY driver, where if the DP part was powered up before USB, the common properties would not be properly initialized - and USB wouldn't work. This issue was resolved in the recent refactoring of the QMP driver, so it's now possible to remove this delay. While there is still a timing dependency in the current implementation, test indicates that it's now possible to boot with an external display on USB Type-C and have the display power up, without disconnecting and reconnecting the cable. drm/msm/dp: Implement hpd_notify() The DisplayPort controller's hot-plug mechanism is based on pinmuxing a physical signal on a GPIO pin into the controller. This is not always possible, either because there aren't dedicated GPIOs available or because the hot-plug signal is a virtual notification, in cases such as USB Type-C. For these cases, by implementing the hpd_notify() callback for the DisplayPort controller's drm_bridge, a downstream drm_bridge (next_bridge) can be used to track and signal the connection status changes. This makes it possible to use downstream drm_bridges such as display-connector or any virtual mechanism, as long as they are implemented as a drm_bridge. drm/msm/dp: Rely on hpd_enable/disable callbacks The DisplayPort controller's internal HPD interrupt handling is used for cases where the HPD signal is connected to a GPIO which is pinmuxed into the DisplayPort controller. In other configurations the HPD notification might be delivered by the DRM framework from an associated bridge. This difference is not appropriately represented by the "is_edp" boolean, but is properly represented by the frameworks invocation of the hpd_enable() and hpd_disable() callbacks. Switch the current condition to rely on these callbacks instead. This ensures appropriate handling of the three cases; no bridge connected, a bridge without DRM_BRIDGE_OP_HPD and a bridge with DRM_BRIDGE_OP_HPD. drm/msm: Use drm_mode_copy() struct drm_display_mode embeds a list head, so overwriting the full struct with another one will corrupt the list (if the destination mode is on a list). Use drm_mode_copy() instead which explicitly preserves the list head of the destination mode. Even if we know the destination mode is not on any list using drm_mode_copy() seems decent as it sets a good example. Bad examples of not using it might eventually get copied into code where preserving the list head actually matters. Obviously one case not covered here is when the mode itself is embedded in a larger structure and the whole structure is copied. But if we are careful when copying into modes embedded in structures I think we can be a little more reassured that bogus list heads haven't been propagated in. @is_mode_copy@ @@ drm_mode_copy(...) { ... } @depends on !is_mode_copy@ struct drm_display_mode *mode; expression E, S; @@ ( - *mode = E + drm_mode_copy(mode, &E) | - memcpy(mode, E, S) + drm_mode_copy(mode, E) ) @depends on !is_mode_copy@ struct drm_display_mode mode; expression E; @@ ( - mode = E + drm_mode_copy(&mode, &E) | - memcpy(&mode, E, S) + drm_mode_copy(&mode, E) ) @@ struct drm_display_mode *mode; @@ - &*mode + mode Cc: Rob Clark <robdclark@gmail.com> Cc: Sean Paul <sean@poorly.run> Cc: Abhinav Kumar <quic_abhinavk@quicinc.com> Cc: linux-arm-msm@vger.kernel.org Cc: freedreno@lists.freedesktop.org Reviewed-by: Dmitry Baryshkov <dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org> Reviewed-by: Abhinav Kumar <quic_abhinavk@quicinc.com> Reviewed-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20221107192545.9896-5-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com

drm/msm/dp: force link training for display resolution change Display resolution change is implemented through drm modeset. Older modeset (resolution) has to be disabled first before newer modeset (resolution) can be enabled. Display disable will turn off both pixel clock and main link clock so that main link have to be re-trained during display enable to have new video stream flow again. At current implementation, display enable function manually kicks up irq_hpd_handle which will read panel link status and start link training if link status is not in sync state. However, there is rare case that a particular panel links status keep staying in sync for some period of time after main link had been shut down previously at display disabled. In this case, main link retraining will not be executed by irq_hdp_handle(). Hence video stream of newer display resolution will fail to be transmitted to panel due to main link is not in sync between host and panel. This patch will bypass irq_hpd_handle() in favor of directly call dp_ctrl_on_stream() to always perform link training in regardless of main link status. So that no unexpected exception resolution change failure cases will happen. Also this implementation are more efficient than manual kicking off irq_hpd_handle function. drm/msm/dp: wait for hpd high before aux transaction The source device should ensure the sink is ready before proceeding to read the sink capability or perform any aux transactions. The sink will indicate its readiness by asserting the HPD line. The controller driver needs to wait for the hpd line to be asserted by the sink before it performs any aux transactions. The eDP sink is assumed to be always connected. It needs power from the source and its HPD line will be asserted only after the panel is powered on. The panel power will be enabled from the panel-edp driver and only after that, the hpd line will be asserted. Whereas for DP, the sink can be hotplugged and unplugged anytime. The hpd line gets asserted to indicate the sink is connected and ready. Hence there is no need to wait for the hpd line to be asserted for a DP sink. drm/msm/dp: Support only IRQ_HPD and REPLUG interrupts for eDP The panel-edp enables the eDP panel power during probe, get_modes and pre-enable. The eDP connect and disconnect interrupts for the eDP/DP controller are directly dependent on panel power. As eDP display can be assumed as always connected, the controller driver can skip the eDP connect and disconnect interrupts. Any disruption in the link status will be indicated via the IRQ_HPD interrupts. So, the eDP controller driver can just enable the IRQ_HPD and replug interrupts. The DP controller driver still needs to enable all the interrupts. drm/msm/dp: tear down main link at unplug handle immediately Two stages are required to setup up main link to be ready to transmit video stream. Stage 1: dp_hpd_plug_handle() perform link training to set up main link stage 2: user space framework (msm_dp_display_enable()) to enable pixel clock and transfer main link to video ready state. At current implementation, when dongle unplugged dp_hdp_unplug_handle() has to wait until stage 2 completed before it can send link down uevent to user space framework to disable pixel clock followed by tearing down main link. This introduce unnecessary latency if dongle unplugged happen after stage 1 and before stage 2. It also has possibility leave main link stay at ready state after dongle unplugged if framework does not response to link down uevent notification. This will prevent next dongle plug in from working. This scenario could possibly happen when dongle unplug while system in the middle of suspending. This patch allow unplug handle to tear down main link and notify framework link down immediately if dongle unplugged happen after stage 1 and before stage 2. With this approach, dp driver is much more resilient to any different scenarios. Also redundant both dp_connect_pending_timeout() and dp_disconnect_pending_timeout() are removed to reduce logic complexity. drm/msm/dp: remove fail safe mode related code Current DP driver implementation has adding safe mode done at dp_hpd_plug_handle() which is expected to be executed under event thread context. However there is possible circular locking happen (see blow stack trace) after edp driver call dp_hpd_plug_handle() from dp_bridge_enable() which is executed under drm_thread context. After review all possibilities methods and as discussed on https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/483155/, supporting EDID compliance tests in the driver is quite hacky. As seen with other vendor drivers, supporting these will be much easier with IGT. Hence removing all the related fail safe code for it so that no possibility of circular lock will happen. drm/msm/dp: support attaching bridges to the DP encoder Currently DP driver will allocate panel bridge for eDP panels. This supports only the following topology: - eDP encoder ⇒ eDP panel (wrapped using panel-bridge) Simplify this code to just check if there is any next bridge in the chain (be it a panel bridge or regular bridge). Rename panel_bridge field to next_bridge accordingly. This allows one to use e.g. one of the following display topologies: - eDP encoder ⇒ ptn3460 ⇒ fixed LVDS panel - eDP encoder ⇒ ptn3460 ⇒ LVDS connector with EDID lines for panel autodetect - eDP encoder ⇒ ptn3460 ⇒ THC63LVD1024 ⇒ DPI panel. - eDP encoder ⇒ LT8912 ⇒ DSI panel Signed-off-by: Dmitry Baryshkov <dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org> Tested-by: Kuogee Hsieh <quic_khsieh@quicinc.com> Reviewed-by: Stephen Boyd <swboyd@chromium.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220211224006.1797846-3-dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org Signed-off-by: Dmitry Baryshkov <dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org>

drm/msm/dp: populate connector of struct dp_panel DP CTS test case 4.2.2.6 has valid edid with bad checksum on purpose and expect DP source return correct checksum. During drm edid read, correct edid checksum is calculated and stored at connector::real_edid_checksum. When we run compliance testing test case 4.2.2.6 dp_panel_handle_sink_request() won't have a valid edid set in struct dp_panel::edid so we'll try to use the connectors real_edid_checksum and hit a NULL pointer dereference error because the connector pointer is never assigned. drm/msm/dp: do not initialize phy until plugin interrupt received Current DP drivers have regulators, clocks, irq and phy are grouped together within a function and executed not in a symmetric manner. This increase difficulty of code maintenance and limited code scalability. This patch divides the driver life cycle of operation into four states, resume (including booting up), dongle plugin, dongle unplugged and suspend. Regulators, core clocks and irq are grouped together and enabled at resume (or booting up) so that the DP controller is armed and ready to receive HPD plugin interrupts. HPD plugin interrupt is generated when a dongle plugs into DUT (device under test). Once HPD plugin interrupt is received, DP controller will initialize phy so that dpcd read/write will function and following link training can be proceeded successfully. drm/msm: Allocate msm_drm_private early and pass it as driver data In preparation for registering the mdss interrupt controller earlier, move the allocation of msm_drm_private from component bind time to msm_drv probe; this also allows us to use the devm variant of kzalloc. Since it is not right to allocate the drm_device at probe time (as it should exist only when all components are bound, and taken down when components get cleaned up), the only way to make this happen is to pass a pointer to msm_drm_private as driver data (like done in many other DRM drivers), instead of one to drm_device like it's currently done in this driver. This is also simplifying some bind/unbind functions around drm/msm, as some of them are using drm_device just to grab a pointer to the msm_drm_private structure, which we now retrieve in one call. drm/msm/dp: Support up to 3 DP controllers Based on the removal of the g_dp_display and the movement of the priv->dp lookup into the DP code it's now possible to have multiple DP instances. In line with the other controllers in the MSM driver, introduce a per-compatible list of base addresses which is used to resolve the "instance id" for the given DP controller. This instance id is used as index in the priv->dp[] array. Then extend the initialization code to initialize struct drm_encoder for each of the registered priv->dp[] and update the logic for associating each struct msm_dp with the struct dpu_encoder_virt. A new enum is introduced to document the connection between the instances referenced in the dpu_intf_cfg array and the controllers in the DP driver and sc7180 is updated. Lastly, bump the number of struct msm_dp instances carries by priv->dp to 3, the currently known maximum number of controllers found in a Qualcomm SoC. drm/msm/dp: power off DP phy at suspend Normal DP suspend operation contains two steps, display off followed by dp suspend, to complete system wide suspending cycle if display is up at that time. In this case, DP phy will be powered off at display off. However there is an exception case that depending on the timing of dongle plug in during system wide suspending, sometimes display off procedure may be skipped and dp suspend was called directly. In this case, dp phy is stay at powered on (phy->power_count = 1) so that at next resume dp driver crash at main link clock enable due to phy is not physically powered on. This patch will call dp_ctrl_off_link_stream() to tear down main link and power off phy at dp_pm_suspend() if main link had been brought up. Changes in V2: -- stashed changes into dp_ctrl.c -- add is_phy_on to monitor phy state Changes in V3: -- delete is_phy_on -- call dp_ctrl_off_link_stream() from dp_pm_suspend() Changes in V4: -- delete changes made at dp_power.c -- move main link status checking to dp_pm_suspend Changes in V5: -- correct commit id at Fixes tag Fixes: 8dbde399044b ("drm/msm/dp: handle irq_hpd with sink_count = 0 correctly) Signed-off-by: Kuogee Hsieh <khsieh@codeaurora.org> Tested-by: Stephen Boyd <swboyd@chromium.org> Reviewed-by: Stephen Boyd <swboyd@chromium.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/1622734846-14179-1-git-send-email-khsieh@codeaurora.org Signed-off-by: Rob Clark <robdclark@chromium.org>

drm/msm/dp: handle irq_hpd with sink_count = 0 correctly irq_hpd interrupt should be handled after dongle plugged in and before dongle unplugged. Hence irq_hpd interrupt is enabled at the end of the plugin handle and disabled at the beginning of unplugged handle. This also removes the PLL code and adds proper includes so things build. drm/msm/dp: wait for audio notification before disabling clocks In the current implementation, there is a very small window for the audio side to safely signal the hdmi_code_shutdown() before the clocks are disabled. Add some synchronization between the DP display and DP audio module to safely disable the clocks to avoid unclocked access from audio side. In addition, audio side can open the sound card even if DP monitor is not connected. Avoid programming hardware registers in this case and bail out early. Changes in v4: - removed some leftover prints Changes in v5: - fix crash when user tries to play audio in suspended state Changes in v6: - rebased on top of latest patchset of dependency Signed-off-by: Abhinav Kumar <abhinavk@codeaurora.org> Signed-off-by: Rob Clark <robdclark@chromium.org>
