drm/mgag200: Add a workaround for low-latency We found a regression in v5.10 on real-time server, using the rt-kernel and the mgag200 driver. It's some really specialized workload, with <10us latency expectation on isolated core. After the v5.10, the real time tasks missed their <10us latency when something prints on the screen (fbcon or printk) The regression has been bisected to 2 commits: commit 0b34d58b6c32 ("drm/mgag200: Enable caching for SHMEM pages") commit 4862ffaec523 ("drm/mgag200: Move vmap out of commit tail") The first one changed the system memory framebuffer from Write-Combine to the default caching. Before the second commit, the mgag200 driver used to unmap the framebuffer after each frame, which implicitly does a cache flush. Both regressions are fixed by this commit, which restore WC mapping for the framebuffer in system memory, and add a cache flush. This is only needed on x86_64, for low-latency workload, so the new kconfig DRM_MGAG200_IOBURST_WORKAROUND depends on PREEMPT_RT and X86. G200SE with less than 2 MiB of video memory have defaulted to 16-bit color depth, as the original revision of the G200SE had only 1.75 MiB of video memory. Using 16-bit colors enabled XGA resolution. drm/mgag200: Split PLL setup into compute and update functions The _set_plls() functions compute a pixel clock's PLL values and program the hardware accordingly. This happens during atomic commits. For atomic modesetting, it's better to separate computation and programming from each other. This will allow to compute the PLL value during atomic checks and catch unsupported modes early. Split the PLL setup into a compute and an update functions, and call them one after the other. Computed PLL values are store in struct mgag200_pll_values. There are four parameters for the PLL, m, n, p and s. Every compute function stores a value for each of these parameters, and the rsp update function makes the register bits from them. drm/mgag200: Replace VRAM helpers with SHMEM helpers The VRAM helpers managed the framebuffer memory for mgag200. This came with several problems, as some MGA device require the scanout address to be located at VRAM offset 0. It's incompatible with the page-flip semantics of DRM's atomic modesettting. With atomic modesetting, old and new framebuffers have to be located in VRAM at the same time. So at least one of them has to reside at a non-0 offset. This patch replaces VRAM helpers with SHMEM helpers. GEM SHMEM buffers reside in system memory, and are shadow-copied into VRAM during page flips. But this does not produce pleasent-looking results in general, so it's useless for modern compositors. Without HW support, compositors will use software rendering. drm/mgag200: Reserve video memory for cursor plane The double-buffered cursor image is currently stored in video memory by creating two BOs and pinning them to VRAM. The exact location is chosen by VRAM helpers. The pinned cursor BOs can conflict with framebuffer BOs and prevent the primary plane from displaying its framebuffer. As a first step to solving this problem, we reserve dedicated space at the high end of the video memory for the cursor images. drm/mgag200: Replace struct mga_fbdev with generic framebuffer emulation This patch replaces mgag200's framebuffer console with DRM's generic implememtation. All respective code is being removed from the driver. The console is set up with a shadow buffer. The actual buffer object is not permanently pinned in video ram, but just another buffer object that the driver moves in and out of vram as necessary. The driver's function mga_crtc_do_set_base() used to contain special handling for the framebuffer console. With the new generic framebuffer, the driver does not need this code an longer. For consistency, this patch also changes the preferred framebuffer depth. The original code used 24 bpp by default and 32 bpp for the framebuffer. As 24 bpp is not well supported by userspace anyway, setting 32 bpp as default makes sense. v2: * rely on fbdev helpers error messages * document changes to preferred depth * dirty function no longer required Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Noralf Trønnes <noralf@tronnes.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/315832/

drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.h Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I expect. v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs. v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits: - (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged). - sort alphabetically v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I touch. v6: Rebase onto i915 changes. v7: Rebase once more. drm: Nuke fb->bits_per_pixel Replace uses of fb->bits_per_pixel with fb->format->cpp[0]*8. Less duplicated information is a good thing. Note that I didn't put parens around the cpp*8 in the below cocci script, on account of not wanting spurious parens all over the place. Instead I did the unsafe way, and tried to look over the entire diff to spot if any dangerous expressions were produced. I didn't see any. There are some cases where previously the code did X*bpp/8, so the division happened after the multiplication. Those are now just X*cpp so the division effectively happens before the multiplication, but that is perfectly fine since bpp is always a multiple of 8. @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ i9xx_get_initial_plane_config(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ ironlake_get_initial_plane_config(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ skylake_get_initial_plane_config(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer FB; expression E; @@ ( - E * FB.bits_per_pixel / 8 + E * FB.format->cpp[0] | - FB.bits_per_pixel / 8 + FB.format->cpp[0] | - E * FB.bits_per_pixel >> 3 + E * FB.format->cpp[0] | - FB.bits_per_pixel >> 3 + FB.format->cpp[0] | - (FB.bits_per_pixel + 7) / 8 + FB.format->cpp[0] | - FB.bits_per_pixel + FB.format->cpp[0] * 8 | - FB.format->cpp[0] * 8 != 8 + FB.format->cpp[0] != 1 ) @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ ( - E * FB->bits_per_pixel / 8 + E * FB->format->cpp[0] | - FB->bits_per_pixel / 8 + FB->format->cpp[0] | - E * FB->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + E * FB->format->cpp[0] | - FB->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + FB->format->cpp[0] | - (FB->bits_per_pixel + 7) / 8 + FB->format->cpp[0] | - FB->bits_per_pixel + FB->format->cpp[0] * 8 | - FB->format->cpp[0] * 8 != 8 + FB->format->cpp[0] != 1 ) @@ struct drm_plane_state *state; expression E; @@ ( - E * state->fb->bits_per_pixel / 8 + E * state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - state->fb->bits_per_pixel / 8 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - E * state->fb->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + E * state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - state->fb->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - (state->fb->bits_per_pixel + 7) / 8 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - state->fb->bits_per_pixel + state->fb->format->cpp[0] * 8 | - state->fb->format->cpp[0] * 8 != 8 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] != 1 ) @@ @@ - (8 * 8) + 8 * 8 @@ struct drm_framebuffer FB; @@ - (FB.format->cpp[0]) + FB.format->cpp[0] @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; @@ - (FB->format->cpp[0]) + FB->format->cpp[0] @@ @@ struct drm_framebuffer { ... - int bits_per_pixel; ... }; v2: Clean up the 'cpp*8 != 8' and '(8 * 8)' cases (Laurent) v3: Adjusted the semantic patch a bit and regenerated due to code changes Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Reviewed-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> (v1) Link: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/1481751140-18352-1-git-send-email-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com

drm: Perform cmdline mode parsing during connector initialisation i915.ko has a custom fbdev initialisation routine that aims to preserve the current mode set by the BIOS, unless overruled by the user. The user's wishes are determined by what, if any, mode is specified on the command line (via the video= parameter). However, that command line mode is first parsed by drm_fb_helper_initial_config() which is called after i915.ko's custom initial_config() as a fallback method. So in order for us to honour it, we need to move the cmdline parser earlier. If we perform the connector cmdline parsing as soon as we initialise the connector, that cmdline mode and forced status is then available even if the fbdev helper is not compiled in or never called. We also then expose the cmdline user mode in the connector mode lists. v2: Rebase after connector->name upheaval. v3: Adapt mga200 to look for the cmdline mode in the new place. drm/mgag200: Hardware cursor support G200 cards support, at best, 16 colour palleted images for the cursor so we do a conversion in the cursor_set function, and reject cursors with more than 16 colours, or cursors with partial transparency. Xorg falls back gracefully to software cursors in this case. We can't disable/enable the cursor hardware without causing momentary corruption around the cursor. Instead, once the cursor is on we leave it on, and simulate turning the cursor off by moving it offscreen. This works well. Since we can't disable -> update -> enable the cursors, we double buffer cursor icons, then just move the base address that points to the old cursor, to the new. This also works well, but uses an extra page of memory. The cursor buffers are lazily-allocated on first cursor_set. This is to make sure they don't take priority over any framebuffers in case of limited memory. Here is a representation of how the bitmap for the cursor is mapped in G200 memory : Each line of color cursor use 6 Slices of 8 bytes. Slices 0 to 3 are used for the 4bpp bitmap, slice 4 for XOR mask and slice 5 for AND mask. Each line has the following format: // Byte 0 Byte 1 Byte 2 Byte 3 Byte 4 Byte 5 Byte 6 Byte 7 // // S0: P00-01 P02-03 P04-05 P06-07 P08-09 P10-11 P12-13 P14-15 // S1: P16-17 P18-19 P20-21 P22-23 P24-25 P26-27 P28-29 P30-31 // S2: P32-33 P34-35 P36-37 P38-39 P40-41 P42-43 P44-45 P46-47 // S3: P48-49 P50-51 P52-53 P54-55 P56-57 P58-59 P60-61 P62-63 // S4: X63-56 X55-48 X47-40 X39-32 X31-24 X23-16 X15-08 X07-00 // S5: A63-56 A55-48 A47-40 A39-32 A31-24 A23-16 A15-08 A07-00 // // S0 to S5 = Slices 0 to 5 // P00 to P63 = Bitmap - pixels 0 to 63 // X00 to X63 = always 0 - pixels 0 to 63 // A00 to A63 = transparent markers - pixels 0 to 63 // 1 means colour, 0 means transparent Signed-off-by: Christopher Harvey <charvey@matrox.com> Signed-off-by: Mathieu Larouche <mathieu.larouche@matrox.com> Acked-by: Julia Lemire <jlemire@matrox.com> Tested-by: Julia Lemire <jlemire@matrox.com> Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com>

drm/mgag200: Fix writes into MGA1064_PIX_CLK_CTL register The original line, WREG_DAC(MGA1064_PIX_CLK_CTL_CLK_DIS, tmp); wrote tmp into MGA1064_PIX_CLK_CTL_CLK_DIS, where MGA1064_PIX_CLK_CTL_CLK_DIS is an offset into MGA1064_PIX_CLK_CTL. Change the line to write properly into MGA1064_PIX_CLK_CTL. There were other chunks of code nearby that use the same pattern (but work correctly), so this patch updates them all to use this new (slightly more efficient) write pattern. The WREG_DAC macro was causing the DAC_INDEX register to be set to the same value twice. WREG8(DAC_DATA, foo) takes advantage of the fact that DAC_INDEX is already at the value we want. drm/mgag200: Bug fix: Modified pll algorithm for EH project While testing the mgag200 kms driver on the HP ProLiant Gen8, a bug was seen. Once the bootloader would load the selected kernel, the screen would go black. At first it was assumed that the mgag200 kms driver was hanging. But after setting up the grub serial output, it was seen that the driver was being loaded properly. After trying serval monitors, one finaly displayed the message "Frequency Out of Range". By comparing the kms pll algorithm with the previous mgag200 xorg driver pll algorithm, discrepencies were found. Once the kms pll algorithm was modified, the expected pll values were produced. This fix was tested on several monitors of varying native resolutions. Signed-off-by: Julia Lemire <jlemire@matrox.com> Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

UAPI: (Scripted) Remove redundant DRM UAPI header #inclusions from drivers/gpu/. Remove redundant DRM UAPI header #inclusions from drivers/gpu/. Remove redundant #inclusions of core DRM UAPI headers (drm.h, drm_mode.h and drm_sarea.h). They are now #included via drmP.h and drm_crtc.h via a preceding patch. Without this patch and the patch to make include the UAPI headers from the core headers, after the UAPI split, the DRM C sources cannot find these UAPI headers because the DRM code relies on specific -I flags to make #include "..." work on headers in include/drm/ - but that does not work after the UAPI split without adding more -I flags. drm: remove the raw_edid field from struct drm_display_info Neither the drm core nor any of the drivers really need the raw_edid field of struct drm_display_info for anything. Instead of being useful, it creates confusion about who is responsible for freeing the memory it points to and setting the field to NULL afterwards, leading to memory leaks and dangling pointers. mgag200: initial g200se driver (v2) This is a driver for the G200 server engines chips, it doesn't driver any of the Matrix G series desktop cards. It will bind to G200 SE A,B, G200EV, G200WB, G200EH and G200ER cards. Its based on previous work done my Matthew Garrett but remodelled to follow the same style and flow as the AST server driver. It also works along the same lines as the AST server driver wrt memory management. There is no userspace driver planned, xf86-video-modesetting should be used. It also appears these GPUs have no ARGB hw cursors. v2: add missing tagfifo reset + G200 SE memory bw setup pieces. Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>
