drm/amdgpu: register a dirty framebuffer callback for fbcon fbcon requires that we implement &drm_framebuffer_funcs.dirty. Otherwise, the framebuffer might take a while to flush (which would manifest as noticeable lag). However, we can't enable this callback for non-fbcon cases since it may cause too many atomic commits to be made at once. So, implement amdgpu_dirtyfb() and only enable it for fbcon framebuffers (we can use the "struct drm_file file" parameter in the callback to check for this since it is only NULL when called by fbcon, at least in the mainline kernel) on devices that support atomic KMS. This results in a HPD signal being asserted but DDC probing failing, resulting in hotplugging occasionally failing. drm/amdgpu: check tiling flags when creating FB on GFX8- On GFX9+, format modifiers are always enabled and ensure the frame-buffers can be scanned out at ADDFB2 time. On GFX8-, format modifiers are not supported and no other check is performed. This means ADDFB2 IOCTLs will succeed even if the tiling isn't supported for scan-out, and will result in garbage displayed on screen [1]. Fix this by adding a check for tiling flags for GFX8 and older. The check is taken from radeonsi in Mesa (see how is_displayable is populated in gfx6_compute_surface). drm/amdgpu: Use device specific BO size & stride check. The builtin size check isn't really the right thing for AMD modifiers due to a couple of reasons: 1) In the format structs we don't do set any of the tilesize / blocks etc. to avoid having format arrays per modifier/GPU 2) The pitch on the main plane is pixel_pitch * bytes_per_pixel even for tiled ... 3) The pitch for the DCC planes is really the pixel pitch of the main surface that would be covered by it ... Note that we only handle GFX9+ case but we do this after converting the implicit modifier to an explicit modifier, so on GFX9+ all framebuffers should be checked here. There is a TODO about DCC alignment, but it isn't worse than before and I'd need to dig a bunch into the specifics. Getting this out in a reasonable timeframe to make sure it gets the appropriate testing seemed more important. Finally as I've found that debugging addfb2 failures is a pita I was generous adding explicit error messages to every failure case. drm/amd/display: Extract 3rd plane from metadata Now that we actually expose the right number of planes we get problems with modifier aware libva if we use an unsupported modifier. So this ensures that we as much as possible use a modifier that radeonsi can actually render to without going to extreme difficulty to synchronize an extra DCC metadata plane with implicit sync. Looking into the opaque metadata isn't ideal but this converts to something mainly for the purpose of the userspace driver and falls back properly if it isn't what we expect. drm/amdgpu: validate user GEM object size When creating frame buffer, userspace may request to attach to a previously allocated GEM object that is smaller than what GPU requires. Validation must be done to prevent out-of-bound DMA, otherwise it could be exploited to reveal sensitive data. drm/amdgpu: Correct get_crtc_scanoutpos behavior when vpos >= vtotal When variable refresh rate is active the hardware counter can return a position >= vtotal. This results in a vpos being returned from amdgpu_display_get_crtc_scanoutpos that's a positive value. The positive value indicates to the caller that the display is currently in scanout when the display is actually still in vblank. This is because the vfront porch duration is unknown with variable refresh active and will end when either a page flip occurs or the timeout specified by the driver/display is reached. The behavior of the amdgpu_display_get_crtc_scanoutpos remains the same when the position is below vtotal. When the position is above vtotal the function will return a value that is effectively -vbl_end, the size of the vback porch. The only caller affected by this change is the DRM helper for calculating vblank timestamps. This change corrects behavior for calculating the page flip timestamp from being the previous timestamp to the calculation to the next timestamp when position >= vtotal. drm/amd: Add abm level drm property Adaptive Backlight Management (ABM) is a feature that reduces backlight level to save power, while increasing pixel contrast and pixel luminance to maintain readability and image quality. ABM will adjust in response to the pixel luminance of the displayed content. ABM is made available as a drm property on eDP monitors called "abm level", which ranges from 0 to 4. When this property is set to 0, ABM is off. Levels 1 to 4 represent different ranges of backlight reduction. At higher levels both the backlight reduction and pixel adjustment will be greater. ABM requires DMCU firmware, which is currently available for Raven ASICs only. If the feature does not work, please ensure your firmware is up to date. v2: Fix commit message, only attach property if DMCU loaded v3: Store ABM level in crtc state to accommodate dc v4: Fix ABM saving on dpms cycle Signed-off-by: David Francis <David.Francis@amd.com> Reviewed-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

Support for more than 8bpc was added recently in the driver but it defaults to the maximum supported bpc - locking out these modes. This should be a user configurable option such that the user can select what bpc configuration they would like. [How] This patch introduces the "max bpc" amdgpu driver specific connector property so the user can limit the maximum bpc. It ranges from 8 to 16. This doesn't directly set the preferred bpc for the panel since it follows Intel's existing driver conventions. drm/amdgpu: Don't hang in amdgpu_flip_work_func on disabled crtc. This fixes a regression introduced in Linux 4.4. This is a port of the same fix for radeon-kms in the patch "drm/radeon: Don't hang in radeon_flip_work_func on disabled crtc. (v2)" Limit the amount of time amdgpu_flip_work_func can delay programming a page flip, by both limiting the maximum amount of time per wait cycle and the maximum number of wait cycles. Continue the flip if the limit is exceeded, even if that may result in a visual or timing glitch. This is to prevent a hang of page flips, as reported in fdo bug #93746: Disconnecting a DisplayPort display in parallel to a kms pageflip getting queued can cause the following hang of page flips and thereby an unusable desktop: 1. kms pageflip ioctl() queues pageflip -> queues execution of amdgpu_flip_work_func. 2. Hotunplug of display causes the driver to DPMS OFF the unplugged display. Display engine shuts down, scanout no longer moves, but stays at its resting position at start line of vblank. 3. amdgpu_flip_work_func executes while crtc is off, and due to the non-moving scanout position, the new flip delay code introduced into Linux 4.4 by commit 8e36f9d33c13 ("drm/amdgpu: Fixup hw vblank counter/ts..") enters an infinite wait loop. 4. After reconnecting the display, the pageflip continues to hang in 3. and the display doesn't update its view of the desktop. This patch fixes the Linux 4.4 regression from fdo bug #93746 <https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93746> Reported-by: Bernd Steinhauser <linux@bernd-steinhauser.de> Signed-off-by: Mario Kleiner <mario.kleiner.de@gmail.com> Cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org> # 4.4+ Cc: Michel Dänzer <michel.daenzer@amd.com> Cc: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> Reviewed-by: Michel Dänzer <michel.daenzer@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

drm/amdgpu: Fixup hw vblank counter/ts for new drm_update_vblank_count() (v3) commit 4dfd6486 "drm: Use vblank timestamps to guesstimate how many vblanks were missed" introduced in Linux 4.4-rc1 makes the drm core more fragile to drivers which don't update hw vblank counters and vblank timestamps in sync with firing of the vblank irq and essentially at leading edge of vblank. This exposed a problem with radeon-kms/amdgpu-kms which do not satisfy above requirements: The vblank irq fires a few scanlines before start of vblank, but programmed pageflips complete at start of vblank and vblank timestamps update at start of vblank, whereas the hw vblank counter increments only later, at start of vsync. This leads to problems like off by one errors for vblank counter updates, vblank counters apparently going backwards or vblank timestamps apparently having time going backwards. The net result is stuttering of graphics in games, or little hangs, as well as total failure of timing sensitive applications. See bug #93147 for an example of the regression on Linux 4.4-rc: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93147 This patch tries to align all above events better from the viewpoint of the drm core / of external callers to fix the problem: 1. The apparent start of vblank is shifted a few scanlines earlier, so the vblank irq now always happens after start of this extended vblank interval and thereby drm_update_vblank_count() always samples the updated vblank count and timestamp of the new vblank interval. To achieve this, the reporting of scanout positions by radeon_get_crtc_scanoutpos() now operates as if the vblank starts radeon_crtc->lb_vblank_lead_lines before the real start of the hw vblank interval. This means that the vblank timestamps which are based on these scanout positions will now update at this earlier start of vblank. 2. The driver->get_vblank_counter() function will bump the returned vblank count as read from the hw by +1 if the query happens after the shifted earlier start of the vblank, but before the real hw increment at start of vsync, so the counter appears to increment at start of vblank in sync with the timestamp update. 3. Calls from vblank irq-context and regular non-irq calls are now treated identical, always simulating the shifted vblank start, to avoid inconsistent results for queries happening from vblank irq vs. happening from drm_vblank_enable() or vblank_disable_fn(). 4. The radeon_flip_work_func will delay mmio programming a pageflip until the start of the real vblank iff it happens to execute inside the shifted earlier start of the vblank, so pageflips now also appear to execute at start of the shifted vblank, in sync with vblank counter and timestamp updates. This to avoid some races between updates of vblank count and timestamps that are used for swap scheduling and pageflip execution which could cause pageflips to execute before the scheduled target vblank. The lb_vblank_lead_lines "fudge" value is calculated as the size of the display controllers line buffer in scanlines for the given video mode: Vblank irq's are triggered by the line buffer logic when the line buffer refill for a video frame ends, ie. when the line buffer source read position enters the hw vblank. This means that a vblank irq could fire at most as many scanlines before the current reported scanout position of the crtc timing generator as the number of scanlines the line buffer can maximally hold for a given video mode. This patch has been successfully tested on a RV730 card with DCE-3 display engine and on a evergreen card with DCE-4 display engine, in single-display and dual-display configuration, with different video modes. A similar patch is needed for amdgpu-kms to fix the same problem. Limitations: - Maybe replace the udelay() in the flip_work_func() by a suitable usleep_range() for a bit better efficiency? Will try that. - Line buffer sizes in pixels are hard-coded on < DCE-4 to a value i just guessed to be high enough to work ok, lacking info on the true sizes atm. Probably fixes: fdo#93147 Port of Mario's radeon fix to amdgpu. Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> (v1) Reviewed-by: Mario Kleiner <mario.kleiner.de@gmail.com> (v2) Refine amdgpu_flip_work_func() for better efficiency. Release the event lock during waits to not delay other outputs in doing their stuff, as the waiting can last up to 200 usecs in some cases. Also small fix to code comment and formatting in that function. (v2) Signed-off-by: Mario Kleiner <mario.kleiner.de@gmail.com> (v3) Fix crash in crtc disabled case

drm: Stop using linedur_ns and pixeldur_ns for vblank timestamps linedur_ns, and especially pixeldur_ns are becoming rather inaccurate to be used for the vblank timestamp correction. With 4k@60 the pixel duration is already below 2ns, so the amount of error due to the truncation to nanoseconds is introducing quite a bit of error. We can avoid such problems if we instead calculate the timestamp delta_ns directly from the dislay timings, avoiding the use of these intermediate truncated values.
