powerpc/smp: Remap boot CPU onto core 0 if >= nr_cpu_ids If nr_cpu_ids is too low to include the boot CPU, remap the boot CPU onto logical core 0. This is achieved in two stages. In early_init_dt_scan_cpus() the boot CPU is renumbered to be on logical core 0, and the original boot core's hardware ID is recorded. Later in smp_setup_cpu_maps(), if the original boot core ID is set, the logical CPU numbers on the 0th core are skipped in the normal device tree search over CPU device tree nodes. Then the search is continued until the device tree node matching the boot core is found, and those CPUs are assigned the CPU numbers starting at 0. This allows kdump kernels to be booted with low values for nr_cpu_ids to conserve memory, while also allowing the crashing/boot CPU to be any CPU. vga16fb: drop powerpc support I noticed that commit 0db5b61e0dc07 ("fbdev/vga16fb: Create EGA/VGA devices in sysfb code") broke vga16fb on non-x86 platforms, because the sysfb code never creates a vga-framebuffer device when screen_info.orig_video_isVGA is set to '1' instead of VIDEO_TYPE_VGAC. However, it turns out that the only architecture that has allowed building vga16fb in the past 20 years is powerpc, and this only worked on two 32-bit platforms and never on 64-bit powerpc. The last machine that actually used this was removed in linux-3.10, so this is all dead code and can be removed. The big-endian support in vga16fb.c could also be removed, but I'd just leave this in place. Analysis of the oops pointed to a struct page with a corrupted compound_head being loaded via page_folio() -> _compound_head() in hash_page_do_lazy_icache(). The access by the mpic code is to an MMIO address, so the expectation is that the struct page for that address would be initialised by init_unavailable_range(), as pointed out by Aneesh. Instrumentation showed that was not the case, which eventually lead to the realisation that pfn_valid() was returning false for that address, causing the struct page to not be initialised. Because the system is using FLATMEM, the version of pfn_valid() in memory_model.h is used: static inline int pfn_valid(unsigned long pfn) { ... return pfn >= pfn_offset && (pfn - pfn_offset) < max_mapnr; } Which relies on max_mapnr being initialised. Early in boot max_mapnr is zero meaning no PFNs are valid. max_mapnr is initialised in mem_init() called via: start_kernel() mm_core_init() # init/main.c:928 mem_init() But that is too late for the usage in init_unavailable_range() called via: start_kernel() setup_arch() # init/main.c:893 paging_init() free_area_init() init_unavailable_range() Although max_mapnr is currently set in mem_init(), the value is actually already available much earlier, as soon as mem_topology_setup() has completed, which is also before paging_init() is called. So move the initialisation there, which causes paging_init() to correctly initialise the struct page and fixes the bug. This bug seems to have been lurking for years, but went unnoticed because the pre-folio code was inspecting the uninitialised page->flags but not dereferencing it. Thanks to Erhard and Aneesh for help debugging. powerpc: Explicitly include correct DT includes The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. powerpc/64: Move paca allocation to early_setup() The early paca and boot cpuid dance is complicated and currently does not quite work as expected for boot cpuid != 0 cases. early_init_devtree() currently allocates the paca_ptrs and boot cpuid paca, but until that returns and early_setup() calls setup_paca(), this thread is currently still executing with smp_processor_id() == 0. One problem this causes is the paca_ptrs[smp_processor_id()] pointer is poisoned, so valid_emergency_stack() (any backtrace) and any similar users will crash. Another is that the hardware id which is set here will not be returned by get_hard_smp_processor_id(smp_processor_id()), but it would work correctly for boot_cpuid == 0, which could lead to difficult to reproduce or find bugs. The hard id does not seem to be used by the rest of early_init_devtree(), it just looks like all this code might have been put here to allocate somewhere to store boot CPU hardware id while scanning the devtree. Rearrange things so the hwid is put in a global variable like boot_cpuid, and do all the paca allocation and boot paca setup in the 64-bit early_setup() after we have everything ready to go. The paca_ptrs[0] re-poisoning code in early_setup does not seem to have ever worked, because paca_ptrs[0] was never not-poisoned when boot_cpuid is not 0. powerpc/setup: Refactor/untangle panic notifiers The panic notifiers infrastructure is a bit limited in the scope of the callbacks - basically every kind of functionality is dropped in a list that runs in the same point during the kernel panic path. This is not really on par with the complexities and particularities of architecture / hypervisors' needs, and a refactor is ongoing. As part of this refactor, it was observed that powerpc has 2 notifiers, with mixed goals: one is just a KASLR offset dumper, whereas the other aims to hard-disable IRQs (necessary on panic path), warn firmware of the panic event (fadump) and run low-level platform-specific machinery that might stop kernel execution and never come back. Clearly, the 2nd notifier has opposed goals: disable IRQs / fadump should run earlier while low-level platform actions should run late since it might not even return. Hence, this patch decouples the notifiers splitting them in three: - First one is responsible for hard-disable IRQs and fadump, should run early; - The kernel KASLR offset dumper is really an informative notifier, harmless and may run at any moment in the panic path; - The last notifier should run last, since it aims to perform low-level actions for specific platforms, and might never return. It is also only registered for 2 platforms, pseries and ps3. The patch better documents the notifiers and clears the code too, also removing a useless header. Currently no functionality change should be observed, but after the planned panic refactor we should expect more panic reliability with this patch. Signed-off-by: Guilherme G. powerpc/64: Set up a kernel stack for secondaries before cpu_restore() Currently in generic_secondary_smp_init(), cur_cpu_spec->cpu_restore() is called before a stack has been set up in r1. This was previously fine as the cpu_restore() functions were implemented in assembly and did not use a stack. However commit 5a61ef74f269 ("powerpc/64s: Support new device tree binding for discovering CPU features") used __restore_cpu_cpufeatures() as the cpu_restore() function for a device-tree features based cputable entry. This is a C function and hence uses a stack in r1. generic_secondary_smp_init() is entered on the secondary cpus via the primary cpu using the OPAL call opal_start_cpu(). In OPAL, each hardware thread has its own stack. The OPAL call is ran in the primary's hardware thread. During the call, a job is scheduled on a secondary cpu that will start executing at the address of generic_secondary_smp_init(). Hence the value that will be left in r1 when the secondary cpu enters the kernel is part of that secondary cpu's individual OPAL stack. This means that __restore_cpu_cpufeatures() will write to that OPAL stack. This is not horribly bad as each hardware thread has its own stack and the call that enters the kernel from OPAL never returns, but it is still wrong and should be corrected. Create the temp kernel stack before calling cpu_restore(). As noted by mpe, for a kexec boot, the secondary CPUs are released from the spin loop at address 0x60 by smp_release_cpus() and then jump to generic_secondary_smp_init(). The call to smp_release_cpus() is in setup_arch(), and it comes before the call to emergency_stack_init(). emergency_stack_init() allocates an emergency stack in the PACA for each CPU. This address in the PACA is what is used to set up the temp kernel stack in generic_secondary_smp_init(). Move releasing the secondary CPUs to after the PACAs have been allocated an emergency stack, otherwise the PACA stack pointer will contain garbage and hence the temp kernel stack created from it will be broken. driver core: initialize a default DMA mask for platform device We still treat devices without a DMA mask as defaulting to 32-bits for both mask, but a few releases ago we've started warning about such cases, as they require special cases to work around this sloppyness. Add a dma_mask field to struct platform_device so that we can initialize the dma_mask pointer in struct device and initialize both masks to 32-bits by default, replacing similar functionality in m68k and powerpc. The arch_setup_pdev_archdata hooks is now unused and removed. Note that the code looks a little odd with the various conditionals because we have to support platform_device structures that are statically allocated. powerpc/32: Add KASAN support This patch adds KASAN support for PPC32. The following patch will add an early activation of hash table for book3s. Until then, a warning will be raised if trying to use KASAN on an hash 6xx. To support KASAN, this patch initialises that MMU mapings for accessing to the KASAN shadow area defined in a previous patch. An early mapping is set as soon as the kernel code has been relocated at its definitive place. Then the definitive mapping is set once paging is initialised. For modules, the shadow area is allocated at module_alloc(). Signed-off-by: Christophe Leroy <christophe.leroy@c-s.fr> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>

powerpc/64s: Reimplement book3s idle code in C Reimplement Book3S idle code in C, moving POWER7/8/9 implementation speific HV idle code to the powernv platform code. Book3S assembly stubs are kept in common code and used only to save the stack frame and non-volatile GPRs before executing architected idle instructions, and restoring the stack and reloading GPRs then returning to C after waking from idle. The complex logic dealing with threads and subcores, locking, SPRs, HMIs, timebase resync, etc., is all done in C which makes it more maintainable. This is not a strict translation to C code, there are some significant differences: - Idle wakeup no longer uses the ->cpu_restore call to reinit SPRs, but saves and restores them itself. - The optimisation where EC=ESL=0 idle modes did not have to save GPRs or change MSR is restored, because it's now simple to do. ESL=1 sleeps that do not lose GPRs can use this optimization too. - KVM secondary entry and cede is now more of a call/return style rather than branchy. nap_state_lost is not required because KVM always returns via NVGPR restoring path. - KVM secondary wakeup from offline sequence is moved entirely into the offline wakeup, which avoids a hwsync in the normal idle wakeup path. Performance measured with context switch ping-pong on different threads or cores, is possibly improved a small amount, 1-3% depending on stop state and core vs thread test for shallow states. Deep states it's in the noise compared with other latencies. KVM improvements: - Idle sleepers now always return to caller rather than branch out to KVM first. - This allows optimisations like very fast return to caller when no state has been lost. - KVM no longer requires nap_state_lost because it controls NVGPR save/restore itself on the way in and out. - The heavy idle wakeup KVM request check can be moved out of the normal host idle code and into the not-performance-critical offline code. - KVM nap code now returns from where it is called, which makes the flow a bit easier to follow. arch: simplify several early memory allocations There are several early memory allocations in arch/ code that use memblock_phys_alloc() to allocate memory, convert the returned physical address to the virtual address and then set the allocated memory to zero. Exactly the same behaviour can be achieved simply by calling memblock_alloc(): it allocates the memory in the same way as memblock_phys_alloc(), then it performs the phys_to_virt() conversion and clears the allocated memory. powerpc: Activate CONFIG_THREAD_INFO_IN_TASK This patch activates CONFIG_THREAD_INFO_IN_TASK which moves the thread_info into task_struct. Moving thread_info into task_struct has the following advantages: - It protects thread_info from corruption in the case of stack overflows. - Its address is harder to determine if stack addresses are leaked, making a number of attacks more difficult. This has the following consequences: - thread_info is now located at the beginning of task_struct. - The 'cpu' field is now in task_struct, and only exists when CONFIG_SMP is active. - thread_info doesn't have anymore the 'task' field. This patch: - Removes all recopy of thread_info struct when the stack changes. - Changes the CURRENT_THREAD_INFO() macro to point to current. - Selects CONFIG_THREAD_INFO_IN_TASK. - Modifies raw_smp_processor_id() to get ->cpu from current without including linux/sched.h to avoid circular inclusion and without including asm/asm-offsets.h to avoid symbol names duplication between ASM constants and C constants. - Modifies klp_init_thread_info() to take a task_struct pointer argument. powerpc/64e: Fix oops due to deferral of paca allocation On 64-bit Book3E systems, in setup_tlb_core_data() we reference other CPUs pacas. But in commit 59f577743d71 ("powerpc/64: Defer paca allocation until memory topology is discovered") the allocation of non-boot-CPU pacas was deferred until later in boot. This leads to an oops: CPU maps initialized for 1 thread per core Unable to handle kernel paging request for data at address 0x8888888888888918 Faulting instruction address: 0xc000000000e2f0d0 Oops: Kernel access of bad area, sig: 11 [#1] NIP .setup_tlb_core_data+0xdc/0x160 Call Trace: .setup_tlb_core_data+0x5c/0x160 (unreliable) .setup_arch+0x80/0x348 .start_kernel+0x7c/0x598 start_here_common+0x1c/0x40 Luckily setup_tlb_core_data() is called immediately prior to smp_setup_pacas(). This patch modifies the context.id on the 8xx to be in the range [1:16] instead of [0:15] in order to identify context.id == 0 as not initialised contexts as done on BOOK3S This patch activates CONFIG_PPC_MM_SLICES when CONFIG_HUGETLB_PAGE is selected for the 8xx Alltough we could in theory have as many slices as PMD entries, the current slices implementation limits the number of low slices to 16. Revert "powerpc: Do not call ppc_md.panic in fadump panic notifier" This reverts commit a3b2cb30f252b21a6f962e0dd107c8b897ca65e4. That commit tried to fix problems with panic on powerpc in certain circumstances, where some output from the generic panic code was being dropped. Unfortunately, it breaks things worse in other circumstances. In particular when running a PAPR guest, it will now attempt to reboot instead of informing the hypervisor (KVM or PowerVM) that the guest has crashed. The crash notification is important to some virtualization management layers. Revert it for now until we can come up with a better solution. powerpc/64s: Replace CONFIG_PPC_STD_MMU_64 with CONFIG_PPC_BOOK3S_64 CONFIG_PPC_STD_MMU_64 indicates support for the "standard" powerpc MMU on 64-bit CPUs. The "standard" MMU refers to the hash page table MMU found in "server" processors, from IBM mainly. Currently CONFIG_PPC_STD_MMU_64 is == CONFIG_PPC_BOOK3S_64. While it's annoying to have two symbols that always have the same value, it's not quite annoying enough to bother removing one. However with the arrival of Power9, we now have the situation where CONFIG_PPC_STD_MMU_64 is enabled, but the kernel is running using the Radix MMU - *not* the "standard" MMU. So it is now actively confusing to use it, because it implies that code is disabled or inactive when the Radix MMU is in use, however that is not necessarily true. So s/CONFIG_PPC_STD_MMU_64/CONFIG_PPC_BOOK3S_64/, and do some minor formatting updates of some of the affected lines. This will be a pain for backports, but c'est la vie. We use the kernel command line to do reservation of hugetlb pages on powernv platforms. On pseries hash mmu mode the supported gigantic huge page size is 16GB and that can only be allocated with hypervisor assist. For pseries the command line option doesn't do the allocation. powerpc/mm: Enable mappings above 128TB Not all user space application is ready to handle wide addresses. It's known that at least some JIT compilers use higher bits in pointers to encode their information. It collides with valid pointers with 512TB addresses and leads to crashes. To mitigate this, we are not going to allocate virtual address space above 128TB by default. But userspace can ask for allocation from full address space by specifying hint address (with or without MAP_FIXED) above 128TB. If hint address set above 128TB, but MAP_FIXED is not specified, we try to look for unmapped area by specified address. If it's already occupied, we look for unmapped area in *full* address space, rather than from 128TB window. This approach helps to easily make application's memory allocator aware about large address space without manually tracking allocated virtual address space. This is going to be a per mmap decision. ie, we can have some mmaps with larger addresses and other that do not. A sample memory layout looks like: 10000000-10010000 r-xp 00000000 fc:00 9057045 /home/max_addr_512TB 10010000-10020000 r--p 00000000 fc:00 9057045 /home/max_addr_512TB 10020000-10030000 rw-p 00010000 fc:00 9057045 /home/max_addr_512TB 10029630000-10029660000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [heap] 7fff834a0000-7fff834b0000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 7fff834b0000-7fff83670000 r-xp 00000000 fc:00 9177190 /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libc-2.23.so 7fff83670000-7fff83680000 r--p 001b0000 fc:00 9177190 /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libc-2.23.so 7fff83680000-7fff83690000 rw-p 001c0000 fc:00 9177190 /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libc-2.23.so 7fff83690000-7fff836a0000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 7fff836a0000-7fff836c0000 r-xp 00000000 00:00 0 [vdso] 7fff836c0000-7fff83700000 r-xp 00000000 fc:00 9177193 /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so 7fff83700000-7fff83710000 r--p 00030000 fc:00 9177193 /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so 7fff83710000-7fff83720000 rw-p 00040000 fc:00 9177193 /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so 7fffdccf0000-7fffdcd20000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [stack] 1000000000000-1000000010000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 1ffff83710000-1ffff83720000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 Signed-off-by: Aneesh Kumar K.V <aneesh.kumar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>

powerpc: Move cpu_has_feature() to a separate file We plan to use jump label for cpu_has_feature(). In order to implement this we need to include the linux/jump_label.h in asm/cputable.h. Unfortunately if we do that it leads to an include loop. The root of the problem seems to be that reg.h needs cputable.h (for CPU_FTRs), and then cputable.h via jump_label.h eventually pulls in hw_irq.h which needs reg.h (for MSR_EE). powerpc: Convert power off logic to pm_power_off The generic Linux framework to power off the machine is a function pointer called pm_power_off. The trick about this pointer is that device drivers can potentially implement it rather than board files. Today on powerpc we set pm_power_off to invoke our generic full machine power off logic which then calls ppc_md.power_off to invoke machine specific power off. However, when we want to add a power off GPIO via the "gpio-poweroff" driver, this card house falls apart. That driver only registers itself if pm_power_off is NULL to ensure it doesn't override board specific logic. However, since we always set pm_power_off to the generic power off logic (which will just not power off the machine if no ppc_md.power_off call is implemented), we can't implement power off via the generic GPIO power off driver. To fix this up, let's get rid of the ppc_md.power_off logic and just always use pm_power_off as was intended. Then individual drivers such as the GPIO power off driver can implement power off logic via that function pointer. With this patch set applied and a few patches on top of QEMU that implement a power off GPIO on the virt e500 machine, I can successfully turn off my virtual machine after halt. powerpc: powernv: Framework to show the correct clock in /proc/cpuinfo Currently, the code in setup-common.c for powerpc assumes that all clock rates are same in a smp system. This value is cached in the variable named ppc_proc_freq and is the value that is reported in /proc/cpuinfo. However on the PowerNV platform, the clock rate is same only across the threads of the same core. Hence the value that is reported in /proc/cpuinfo is incorrect on PowerNV platforms. We need a better way to query and report the correct value of the processor clock in /proc/cpuinfo. The patch achieves this by creating a machdep_call named get_proc_freq() which is expected to returns the frequency in Hz. The code in show_cpuinfo() can invoke this method to display the correct clock rate on platforms that have implemented this method. On the other powerpc platforms it can use the value cached in ppc_proc_freq. Signed-off-by: Gautham R. Shenoy <ego@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org>

KVM: PPC: Add support for Book3S processors in hypervisor mode This adds support for KVM running on 64-bit Book 3S processors, specifically POWER7, in hypervisor mode. Using hypervisor mode means that the guest can use the processor's supervisor mode. That means that the guest can execute privileged instructions and access privileged registers itself without trapping to the host. This gives excellent performance, but does mean that KVM cannot emulate a processor architecture other than the one that the hardware implements. This code assumes that the guest is running paravirtualized using the PAPR (Power Architecture Platform Requirements) interface, which is the interface that IBM's PowerVM hypervisor uses. That means that existing Linux distributions that run on IBM pSeries machines will also run under KVM without modification. In order to communicate the PAPR hypercalls to qemu, this adds a new KVM_EXIT_PAPR_HCALL exit code to include/linux/kvm.h. Currently the choice between book3s_hv support and book3s_pr support (i.e. the existing code, which runs the guest in user mode) has to be made at kernel configuration time, so a given kernel binary can only do one or the other. This new book3s_hv code doesn't support MMIO emulation at present. Since we are running paravirtualized guests, this isn't a serious restriction. With the guest running in supervisor mode, most exceptions go straight to the guest. We will never get data or instruction storage or segment interrupts, alignment interrupts, decrementer interrupts, program interrupts, single-step interrupts, etc., coming to the hypervisor from the guest. Therefore this introduces a new KVMTEST_NONHV macro for the exception entry path so that we don't have to do the KVM test on entry to those exception handlers. We do however get hypervisor decrementer, hypervisor data storage, hypervisor instruction storage, and hypervisor emulation assist interrupts, so we have to handle those. In hypervisor mode, real-mode accesses can access all of RAM, not just a limited amount. Therefore we put all the guest state in the vcpu.arch and use the shadow_vcpu in the PACA only for temporary scratch space. We allocate the vcpu with kzalloc rather than vzalloc, and we don't use anything in the kvmppc_vcpu_book3s struct, so we don't allocate it. We don't have a shared page with the guest, but we still need a kvm_vcpu_arch_shared struct to store the values of various registers, so we include one in the vcpu_arch struct. The POWER7 processor has a restriction that all threads in a core have to be in the same partition. MMU-on kernel code counts as a partition (partition 0), so we have to do a partition switch on every entry to and exit from the guest. At present we require the host and guest to run in single-thread mode because of this hardware restriction. This code allocates a hashed page table for the guest and initializes it with HPTEs for the guest's Virtual Real Memory Area (VRMA). We require that the guest memory is allocated using 16MB huge pages, in order to simplify the low-level memory management. This also means that we can get away without tracking paging activity in the host for now, since huge pages can't be paged or swapped. This also adds a few new exports needed by the book3s_hv code. Specifically, the case where the device-tree contains nothing matching pnpPNP,303 or pnpPNP,f03 doesn't seem to be handled well. powerpc: Respect nr_cpu_ids when calling set_cpu_possible and set_cpu_present We should not set cpus above nr_cpu_ids to possible. While we will trigger a warning with CONFIG_CPUMASK_DEBUG, even then the mask initializers will set the bits beyond what the iterators check and cause nr_cpu_ids to increase. Respecting nr_cpu_ids during setup will allow us to use it in our initial paca allocation. It can be reduced from NR_CPUS by the existing early param nr_cpus=, which was added in 2b633e3fac5efada088b57d31e65401f22bcc18f (smp: Use nr_cpus= to set nr_cpu_ids early). of: Merge of_platform_bus_type with platform_bus_type of_platform_bus was being used in the same manner as the platform_bus. The only difference being that of_platform_bus devices are generated from data in the device tree, and platform_bus devices are usually statically allocated in platform code. Having them separate causes the problem of device drivers having to be registered twice if it was possible for the same device to appear on either bus. This patch removes of_platform_bus_type and registers all of_platform bus devices and drivers on the platform bus instead. A previous patch made the of_device structure an alias for the platform_device structure, and a shim is used to adapt of_platform_drivers to the platform bus. After all of of_platform_bus drivers are converted to be normal platform drivers, the shim code can be removed. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca> Acked-by: David S. powerpc: Dynamically allocate pacas On 64-bit kernels we currently have a 512 byte struct paca_struct for each cpu (usually just called "the paca"). Currently they are statically allocated, which means a kernel built for a large number of cpus will waste a lot of space if it's booted on a machine with few cpus. We can avoid that by only allocating the number of pacas we need at boot. However this is complicated by the fact that we need to access the paca before we know how many cpus there are in the system. The solution is to dynamically allocate enough space for NR_CPUS pacas, but then later in boot when we know how many cpus we have, we free any unused pacas. Rather than having to add a bus_notify to each platform we add a default one at the highest priority (called first) to set the default dma_ops for of_platform and platform devices to dma_direct_ops. [POWERPC] Fix xmon=off and cleanup xmon initialisation My patch to make the early xmon logic work with earlier early param parsing (480f6f35a149802a94ad5c1a2673ed6ec8d2c158) breaks xmon=off. No one does this obviously as xmon rocks, but it should really work as documented. While fixing that it struck me that we could move the xmon param handling into xmon.c, and also consolidate the xmon_init()/do_early_xmon logic into xmon_setup(). This means xmon=early drops into xmon a little earlier on 32-bit, but it seems to work just fine. Tested on PSERIES and CLASSIC32. [POWERPC] Define of_read_ulong helper There are various places where we want to extract an unsigned long value from a device-tree property that can be 1 or 2 cells in length. This replaces some open-coded calculations, and one place where we assumed without checking that properties were the length we wanted, with a little of_read_ulong() helper. [PATCH] tty: Remove include of screen_info.h from tty.h screen_info.h doesn't have anything to do with the tty layer and shouldn't be included by tty.h. This patches removes the include and modifies all users to directly include screen_info.h. struct screen_info is mainly used to communicate with the console drivers in drivers/video/console. Note that this patch touches every arch and I have no way of testing it. If there is a mistake the worst thing that will happen is a compile error. [PATCH] powerpc: Use check_legacy_ioport() on ppc32 too. Some people report that we die on some Macs when we are expecting to catch machine checks after poking at some random I/O address. I'd seen it happen on my dual G4 with serial ports until we fixed those to use OF, but now other users are reporting it with i8042. This expands the use of check_legacy_ioport() to avoid that situation even on 32-bit kernels. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

[PATCH] for_each_possible_cpu: powerpc for_each_cpu() actually iterates across all possible CPUs. We've had mistakes in the past where people were using for_each_cpu() where they should have been iterating across only online or present CPUs. This is inefficient and possibly buggy. [PATCH] powerpc: Kill _machine and hard-coded platform numbers This removes statically assigned platform numbers and reworks the powerpc platform probe code to use a better mechanism. With this, board support files can simply declare a new machine type with a macro, and implement a probe() function that uses the flattened device-tree to detect if they apply for a given machine. We now have a machine_is() macro that replaces the comparisons of _machine with the various PLATFORM_* constants. This commit also changes various drivers to use the new macro instead of looking at _machine. [PATCH] powerpc: Allow non zero boot cpuids We currently have a hack to flip the boot cpu and its secondary thread to logical cpuid 0 and 1. This means the logical - physical mapping will differ depending on which cpu is boot cpu. This is most apparent on kexec, where we might kexec on any cpu and therefore change the mapping from boot to boot. The patch below does a first pass early on to work out the logical cpuid of the boot thread. We then fix up some paca structures to match. Ive also removed the boot_cpuid_phys variable for ppc64, to be consistent we use get_hard_smp_processor_id(boot_cpuid) everywhere. [PATCH] more for_each_cpu() conversions When we stop allocating percpu memory for not-possible CPUs we must not touch the percpu data for not-possible CPUs at all. The correct way of doing this is to test cpu_possible() or to use for_each_cpu(). This patch is a kernel-wide sweep of all instances of NR_CPUS. I found very few instances of this bug, if any. But the patch converts lots of open-coded test to use the preferred helper macros. [PATCH] powerpc: serial port discovery (#2) This moves the discovery of legacy serial ports to a separate file, makes it common to ppc32 and ppc64, and reworks it to use the new OF address translators to get to the ports early. Only ppc64 gets udbg still yet, unifying udbg isn't finished yet. It also adds some speed-probing code to udbg so that the default console can come up at the same speed it was set to by the firmware. [PATCH] powerpc: Merge kexec This patch merges, to some extent, the PPC32 and PPC64 kexec implementations. We adopt the PPC32 approach of having ppc_md callbacks for the kexec functions. The current PPC64 implementation becomes the "default" implementation for PPC64 which platforms can select if they need no special treatment. I've added these default callbacks to pseries/maple/cell/powermac, this means iSeries no longer supports kexec - but it never worked anyway. I've renamed PPC32's machine_kexec_simple to default_machine_kexec, inline with PPC64. Judging by the comments it might be better named machine_kexec_non_of, or something, but at the moment it's the only implementation for PPC32 so it's the "default". Kexec requires machine_shutdown(), which is in machine_kexec.c on PPC32, but we already have in setup-common.c on powerpc. All this does is call ppc_md.nvram_sync, which only powermac implements, so instead make machine_shutdown a ppc_md member and have it call core99_nvram_sync directly on powermac. I've also stuck relocate_kernel.S into misc_32.S for powerpc. Built for ARCH=ppc, and 32 & 64 bit ARCH=powerpc, with KEXEC=y/n. Booted on P5 LPAR and successfully kexec'ed. Should apply on top of 493f25ef4087395891c99fcfe2c72e62e293e89f. Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <michael@ellerman.id.au> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

[PATCH] powerpc: Merge vdso's and add vdso support to 32 bits kernel This patch moves the vdso's to arch/powerpc, adds support for the 32 bits vdso to the 32 bits kernel, rename systemcfg (finally !), and adds some new (still untested) routines to both vdso's: clock_gettime() with support for CLOCK_REALTIME and CLOCK_MONOTONIC, clock_getres() (same clocks) and get_tbfreq() for glibc to retreive the timebase frequency. Tom,Steve: The implementation of get_tbfreq() I've done for 32 bits returns a long long (r3, r4) not a long. This is such that if we ever add support for >4Ghz timebases on ppc32, the userland interface won't have to change. I have tested gettimeofday() using some glibc patches in both ppc32 and ppc64 kernels using 32 bits userland (I haven't had a chance to test a 64 bits userland yet, but the implementation didn't change and was tested earlier). I haven't tested yet the new functions. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
