powerpc: Restore CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO in defconfigs Commit f9b3cd245784 ("Kconfig.debug: make DEBUG_INFO selectable from a choice") broke the selection of CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO by powerpc defconfigs. It is now necessary to select one of the three DEBUG_INFO_DWARF* options to get DEBUG_INFO enabled. Replace DEBUG_INFO=y by DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y in all defconfigs using the following command: sed -i s/DEBUG_INFO=y/DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y/g `git grep -l DEBUG_INFO arch/powerpc/configs/` Fixes: f9b3cd245784 ("Kconfig.debug: make DEBUG_INFO selectable from a choice") Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Christophe Leroy <christophe.leroy@csgroup.eu> Reviewed-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/98a4c2603bf9e4b776e219f5b8541d23aa24e854.1654930308.git.christophe.leroy@csgroup.eu

powerpc/8xx: Drop CONFIG_8xx_COPYBACK option CONFIG_8xx_COPYBACK was there to help disabling copyback cache mode for debuging hardware. But nobody will design new boards with 8xx now. All 8xx platforms select it, so make it the default and remove the option. Also remove the Mx_RESETVAL values which are pretty useless and hide the real value while reading code. powerpc: configs: Cleanup old Kconfig options CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED is gone since commit 771c035372a0 ("deprecate the '__deprecated' attribute warnings entirely and for good"). CONFIG_IOSCHED_DEADLINE and CONFIG_IOSCHED_CFQ are gone since commit f382fb0bcef4 ("block: remove legacy IO schedulers"). powerpc/configs: Remove useless UEVENT_HELPER_PATH Remove the CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH because: 1. It is disabled since commit 1be01d4a5714 ("driver: base: Disable CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER by default") as its dependency (UEVENT_HELPER) was made default to 'n', 2. It is not recommended (help message: "This should not be used today [...] creates a high system load") and was kept only for ancient userland, 3. Certain userland specifically requests it to be disabled (systemd README: "Legacy hotplug slows down the system and confuses udev"). powerpc: Update all configs using savedefconfig It looks like it's ~4 years since we updated some of these, so do a bulk update. Verified that the before and after generated configs are exactly the same. Which begs the question why update them? The answer is that it can be confusing when the stored defconfig drifts too far from the generated result. Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>

kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERT The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it.
