gprof: Retire a.out support FreeBSD has used ELF binaries/libraries for decades, but still has some support for legacy a.out binaries. Portions of this have been retired over time, but support remained in ldd, ldconfig, and gprof. Retire gprof support; if anyone needs to do development on a.out binaries still they will be best served by installing a full FreeBSD 2.x or other obsolete version in a jail. Kernel support for executing a.out binaries is unchnaged. Sponsored by: The FreeBSD Foundation Differential Revision: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D27480

Create the altix project branch. The altix project will add support for the SGI Altix 350 to FreeBSD/ia64. The hardware used for porting is a two-module system, consisting of a base compute module and a CPU expansion module. SGI's NUMAFlex architecture can be an excellent platform to test CPU affinity and NUMA-aware features in FreeBSD.

Add -K support to gprof(1), which enables dynamic symbol resolution from the currently-running kernel (and supercedes an executable file argument given). With this change, properly-compiled KLD modules are now able to be profiled. Obtained from: NAI Labs CBOSS project Funded by: DARPA

Make profiling work for ELF. gprof now autodetects the format of the executable file, so it will work for both a.out and ELF format files. I have split the object format specific code into separate source files. It's cleaner than it was before, but it's still pretty crufty. Don't cheat on your make world for this update. A lot of things have to be rebuilt for it to work, including the compiler and all of the profiled libraries.
