freebsd32: remove redundant no-arg syscalls pipe requires no special handling. ofreebsd32_sigpending did differ from osigpending in that it acted on the siglist rather than the sigqueue, but this appears to be an oversight in 3fbdb3c21524d9d95278ada1d61b4d1e6bee654b. ogetpagesize could theoretically have ABI-dependent results, but in practice does not. If it does it would be easy handle in the central implementation and be the least of the problems in changing the value of PAGE_SIZE. Reviewed by: kevans

Move most of the contents of opt_compat.h to opt_global.h. opt_compat.h is mentioned in nearly 180 files. In-progress network driver compabibility improvements may add over 100 more so this is closer to "just about everywhere" than "only some files" per the guidance in sys/conf/options. Keep COMPAT_LINUX32 in opt_compat.h as it is confined to a subset of sys/compat/linux/*.c. A fake _COMPAT_LINUX option ensure opt_compat.h is created on all architectures. Move COMPAT_LINUXKPI to opt_dontuse.h as it is only used to control the set of compiled files. sys/amd64: further adoption of SPDX licensing ID tags. Mainly focus on files that use BSD 2-Clause license, however the tool I was using misidentified many licenses so this was mostly a manual - error prone - task. The Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) group provides a specification to make it easier for automated tools to detect and summarize well known opensource licenses. We are gradually adopting the specification, noting that the tags are considered only advisory and do not, in any way, superceed or replace the license texts.

Add support for executing the FreeBSD 1/i386 a.out binaries on amd64. In particular: - implement compat shims for old stat(2) variants and ogetdirentries(2); - implement delivery of signals with ancient stack frame layout and corresponding sigreturn(2); - implement old getpagesize(2); - provide a user-mode trampoline and LDT call gate for lcall $7,$0; - port a.out image activator and connect it to the build as a module on amd64. The changes are hidden under COMPAT_43. MFC after: 1 month

Save and restore segment registers on amd64 when entering and leaving the kernel on amd64. Fill and read segment registers for mcontext and signals. Handle traps caused by restoration of the invalidated selectors. Implement user-mode creation and manipulation of the process-specific LDT descriptors for amd64, see sysarch(2). Implement support for TSS i/o port access permission bitmap for amd64. Context-switch LDT and TSS. Do not save and restore segment registers on the context switch, that is handled by kernel enter/leave trampolines now. Remove segment restore code from the signal trampolines for freebsd/amd64, freebsd/ia32 and linux/i386 for the same reason. Implement amd64-specific compat shims for sysarch. Linuxolator (temporary ?) switched to use gsbase for thread_area pointer. TODO: Currently, gdb is not adapted to show segment registers from struct reg. Add BASIC i386 binary support for the amd64 kernel. This is largely stolen from the ia64/ia32 code (indeed there was a repocopy), but I've redone the MD parts and added and fixed a few essential syscalls. It is sufficient to run i386 binaries like /bin/ls, /usr/bin/id (dynamic) and p4. The ia64 code has not implemented signal delivery, so I had to do that. Before you say it, yes, this does need to go in a common place. But we're in a freeze at the moment and I didn't want to risk breaking ia64. I will sort this out after the freeze so that the common code is in a common place. On the AMD64 side, this required adding segment selector context switch support and some other support infrastructure. The %fs/%gs etc code is hairy because loading %gs will clobber the kernel's current MSR_GSBASE setting. The segment selectors are not used by the kernel, so they're only changed at context switch time or when changing modes. This still needs to be optimized. Approved by: re (amd64/* blanket)

- Replace inline implementations of sigprocmask() with calls to kern_sigprocmask() in the various binary compatibility emulators. - Replace calls to sigsuspend(), sigaltstack(), sigaction(), and sigprocmask() that used the stackgap with calls to the corresponding kern_sig*() functions instead without using the stackgap.

Infrastructure tweaks to allow having both an Elf32 and an Elf64 executable handler in the kernel at the same time. Also, allow for the exec_new_vmspace() code to build a different sized vmspace depending on the executable environment. This is a big help for execing i386 binaries on ia64. The ELF exec code grows the ability to map partial pages when there is a page size difference, eg: emulating 4K pages on 8K or 16K hardware pages. Flesh out the i386 emulation support for ia64. At this point, the only binary that I know of that fails is cvsup, because the cvsup runtime tries to execute code in pages not marked executable. Obtained from: dfr (mostly, many tweaks from me).
