The 38 printer name must be a text string composed of 39 uppercase or lowercase alphabetical characters 40 (a-z, A-Z), digits (0-9), hyphens, or 41 underscores. A printer name can be a maximum of 42 14 characters long. 43
44 45 Printer Server: This is the computer you have selected to act 46as the server for print actions. You must be logged on to this 47computer and be running Oracle Solaris Print Manager on it. Oracle 48Solaris Print Manager sets up this system with the appropriate software to manage 49local and remote printers. 50 51
52 Description: 53 [Optional] Describes the printer, including the printer type and 54 location, possibly, or provides other information about the 55 printer. 56 57
58 59 Printer Type: 60 Specifies the generic name for a type of 61 printer. Examples are PostScript, Daisy, and Diablo. 64
65 66 File Contents: 67 Specifies the format of files that can be 68 printed without any special filtering by the 69 print software. PostScript is the default and is 70 probably correct most of the time. 71
72 73 Fault Notification: 74 Specifies how the superuser will be notified in 75 case of a printer error. 76 77
78 Destination: 79
80For BSD Protocol, the network name of the printer followed by a colon 81and the printer-vendor-supplied queue name. 82
83For TCP Protocol, the network name of the printer followed by a colon 84and the tcp port number to connect to. 85
86For URI Protocol, a printer URI to be used in connecting to the remote 87printer. For example: "smb://user@printer-host/printer-name". 88
89 90 Protocol: 91The internet protocol for file transfer; choices are BSD, TCP, or URI. 92
93 94 Options: Default Printer: If checked, this printer is 95designated as the default printer for printing jobs sent to this 96server. If another printer had been designated as the default printer 97for the network, this printer will replace it as the default. If you 98are using a naming service, this printer will be the default printer 99for the naming service, also. 100 101
Note that this is the last place the print subsystem looks to 102determine where a particular print job will be printed; the 103destination option of the lp command is the first place looked, and 104other environment variables are checked before this one. See the man 105page for printers.conf(4) for a full explanation of the search order. 106 107
108 109 Options: Banner: Specifies whether a banner 110page will be printed between jobs. 111
112
113"Aways Print Banner" stipulates that a banner will always be printed 114and may not be turned off by the user. 115
116"User Selectable - Default=on" stipulates that a banner will be printed 117unless the user selects 118to turn the banner off. 119
120"Never Print Banner" stipulates that a banner will never be printed 121and may not be turned on by the user. 122 123
124 125 User Access List: 126Specifies the print clients that can 127 print to this printer. By default, all print 128 clients have access to this printer, as designated by the word 129"all" in the list. 130
131 132To add a user to the list, type a user name in the blank text field 133below the list and click Add. Note that this user name replaces "all" 134or "none" if either "all" or "none" is in the user access list.
