The 40 printer name must be a text string composed of 41 uppercase or lowercase alphabetical characters 42 (a-z, A-Z), digits (0-9), hyphens, or 43 underscores. A printer name can be a maximum of 44 14 characters long. 45
46 47 Printer Server: This is the computer you have selected to act 48as the server for print actions. You must be logged on to this 49computer and be running Oracle Solaris Print Manager on it. Oracle 50Solaris Print Manager sets up this system with the appropriate software to manage 51local and remote printers. 52 53
54 Description: 55 [Optional] Describes the printer, including the printer type and 56 location, possibly, or provides other information about the 57 printer. 58 59
60 61 Printer Port: 62 63Specifies the hardware port, such as /dev/term/a, that the printer is 64connected to. 65
66 67 Printer Type: 68 Specifies the generic name for a type of 69 printer. Supported printer types correspond to 70 items listed in the /usr/share/lib/terminfo 71 directories. Examples are PostScript, Daisy, and Diablo. 72 73
74 75 File Contents: 76 Specifies the format of files that can be 77 printed without any special filtering by the 78 print software. PostScript is the default and is 79 probably correct most of the time. 80
81 82 Fault Notification: 83 Specifies how the superuser will be notified in 84 case of a printer error. 85 86
87 88 Options: Default Printer: If checked, designates this printer 89as the default printer for printing jobs from the computer on which 90you are running Oracle Solaris Print Manager. If you are using a naming 91service, this printer will be the default printer for the naming 92service, also. 93 94
95 96Note that this is the last place the print subsystem looks to 97determine where a particular print job will be printed; the 98destination option of the lp command is the first place looked, and 99other environment variables are checked before this one. See the man 100page for printers.conf(4) for a full explanation of the search order. 101 102
103 104 Options: Banner: Specifies whether a banner 105page will be printed between jobs. 106
107
108"Aways Print Banner" stipulates that a banner will always be printed 109and may not be turned off by the user. 110
111"User Selectable - Default=on" stipulates that a banner will be printed 112unless the user selects 113to turn the banner off. 114
115"Never Print Banner" stipulates that a banner will never be printed 116and may not be turned on by the user. 117 118
119 120 User Access List: 121Specifies the print clients that can 122 print to this printer. By default, all print 123 clients have access to this printer, as designated by the word 124"all" in the list. 125 126
127 128If you want to restrict its use to individual users, enter a user name 129in the text field below the list and click Add. Other legal constructs 130are system-name!login-ID (user "login-ID" on system "system-name"), 131system-name!all (all users on system "system-name"), and all!login-ID 132(user "login-ID" on all systems). Use the lpadmin(1M) command to deny 133access to users. 134 135
136 137To delete a user from the list, select the user in the list and click 138Delete. 139 140
141 142OK: Apply changes and dismiss the window. 143
144Apply: Apply the changes and leave the window displayed. 145
146Reset: Reset all fields to last Apply 147
148Cancel: Dismiss the window. 149
150Help: Display help for the current window or dialog. 151 152
153
154 155<KEYWORDS> 156install "local printer" "printer name" server description port 157"printer type" "file contents" fault "fault notification" "default 158printer" banner "attached printer" new nobanner dialog: new attached 159 160</KEYWORDS> 161 162
163 164<SEEALSO> 165ToInstallLocal 166ToAddAccess 167Overview 168MainWindow 169HelpOnHelp 170</SEEALSO> 171 172
