30
Installing GCC

31The latest version of this document is always available at
32http://gcc.gnu.org/install/.
33
34
This document describes the generic installation procedure for GCC as well
35as detailing some target specific installation instructions.
36
37
GCC includes several components that previously were separate distributions
38with their own installation instructions. This document supersedes all
39package specific installation instructions.
40
41
Before starting the build/install procedure please check the
42host/target specific installation notes.
43We recommend you browse the entire generic installation instructions before
44you proceed.
45
46
Lists of successful builds for released versions of GCC are
47available at http://gcc.gnu.org/buildstat.html.
48These lists are updated as new information becomes available.
49
50
The installation procedure itself is broken into five steps.
51
52

53
Downloading the source
54
Configuration
55
Building
56
Testing (optional)
57
Final install
58

59
60
Please note that GCC does not support
make uninstall
and probably
61won't do so in the near future as this would open a can of worms. Instead,
62we suggest that you install GCC into a directory of its own and simply
63remove that directory when you do not need that specific version of GCC
64any longer, and, if shared libraries are installed there as well, no
65more binaries exist that use them.
66
67
There are also some old installation instructions,
68which are mostly obsolete but still contain some information which has
69not yet been merged into the main part of this manual.
