42
Installing GCC

43The latest version of this document is always available at
44http://gcc.gnu.org/install/.
45
46
This document describes the generic installation procedure for GCC as well
47as detailing some target specific installation instructions.
48
49
GCC includes several components that previously were separate distributions
50with their own installation instructions. This document supersedes all
51package specific installation instructions.
52
53
Before starting the build/install procedure please check the
54host/target specific installation notes.
55We recommend you browse the entire generic installation instructions before
56you proceed.
57
58
Lists of successful builds for released versions of GCC are
59available at http://gcc.gnu.org/buildstat.html.
60These lists are updated as new information becomes available.
61
62
The installation procedure itself is broken into five steps.
63
64

65
Downloading the source
66
Configuration
67
Building
68
Testing (optional)
69
Final install
70

71
72
Please note that GCC does not support make uninstall and probably
73won't do so in the near future as this would open a can of worms. Instead,
74we suggest that you install GCC into a directory of its own and simply
75remove that directory when you do not need that specific version of GCC
76any longer, and, if shared libraries are installed there as well, no
77more binaries exist that use them.
78
79
There are also some old installation instructions,
80which are mostly obsolete but still contain some information which has
81not yet been merged into the main part of this manual.
