xfer revision 1.13
1 $NetBSD: xfer,v 1.13 1998/05/11 20:43:37 ender Exp $ 2 3Installation is currently only supported from the local Macintosh hard 4drive, from a CD-ROM, or from an AppleShare volume (however, you may upgrade 5a system from within NetBSD; see the section on upgrading for more details). 6If you are installing from a local hard drive, this means that you'll need 7at least enough room for the largest file that you will have to install. 8This is the 8.6M base.tgz file. There has been talk of allowing an install 9from split files. If you have the time, desire, and knowledge, please feel 10free to add that functionality. 11 12If the install is being done from an AppleShare-mounted volume, the install 13utility must be in the same folder as the binary distribution sets. 14 15Each distribution file is in "raw" archive format. 16 17 - Distribution files must be downloaded in binary mode. Common web 18 browsers may not be suitable for this task; FTP clients such as 19 Fetch and Anarchie work fine, but be sure to specify a binary file 20 transfer. 21 22 - The files should not be unpacked. If you have the Internet Config 23 extension installed, you can disable this in the "Helpers" dialog 24 by removing the entry associated with ".tgz" files. Other FTP 25 clients may require separate changes; consult your package's 26 documentation. 27 28 - If you are installing from a CD-ROM, the distribution sets are 29 already in the proper format and no special handling is required. 30 31You will also need to collect the MacOS installation tools from the 32"mac68k/installation/misc" subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution: 33Mkfs, NetBSD/Mac68k Installer, and NetBSD/Mac68k Booter. These three are 34in binhexed, self-extracting archives as Mkfs.sea.hqx, Installer.sea.hqx, 35and Booter.sea.hqx, respectively. Extract them as you would any other 36Macintosh application. 37
