xfer revision 1.12
1 $NetBSD: xfer,v 1.12 1998/01/09 18:46:46 perry Exp $ 2 3Installation is currently only supported from the local Macintosh hard 4drive or from an AppleShare volume (however, you may upgrade a system from 5within NetBSD; see the section on upgrading for more details). This means 6that you'll need at least enough room for the largest file that you will 7have to install. This is the 8.6M base.tgz file. There has been talk of 8allowing an install from split files. If you have the time, desire, and 9knowledge, please feel free to add that functionality. 10 11If the install is being done from an AppleShare-mounted volume, the install 12utility must be in the same folder as the binary distribution sets. 13 14Each distribution file is in "raw" archive format. 15 16 - Distribution files must be downloaded in binary mode. Common web 17 browsers may not be suitable for this task; FTP clients such as 18 Fetch and Anarchie work fine, but be sure to specify a binary file 19 transfer. 20 21 - The files should not be unpacked. If you have the Internet Config 22 extension installed, you can disable this in the "Helpers" dialog 23 by removing the entry associated with ".tgz" files. Other FTP 24 clients may require separate changes; consult your package's 25 documentation. 26 27You will also need to collect the MacOS installation tools from the 28"mac68k/installation/misc" subdirectory of the NetBSD _VER distribution: 29Mkfs, NetBSD/Mac68k Installer, and NetBSD/Mac68k Booter. These three are 30in binhexed, self-extracting archives as Mkfs.sea.hqx, Installer.sea.hqx, 31and Booter.sea.hqx, respectively. Extract them as you would any other 32Macintosh application. 33
