1The mac68k-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.2 release is found in the 2"mac68k" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is laid 3out as follows: 4 5.../NetBSD-1.2/mac68k/ 6 binary/ mac68k binary distribution sets; 7 see below. 8 9 security/ mac68k security distribution; 10 see below. 11 12 utils/ The mac68k installation utilities. 13 14The NetBSD/mac68k binary distribution sets contain the binaries which 15comprise the NetBSD 1.2 release for the mac68k. There are eight binary 16distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary 17distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "mac68k/binary" 18subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution tree, and are as follows: 19 20 netbsd12 The NetBSD/mac68k 1.2 kernel binary. You MUST 21 install this file. It is the kernel that you need 22 to boot the system. 23 [ 436K gzipped, 900K uncompressed ] 24 25 base12 The NetBSD/mac68k 1.2 base binary distribution. You 26 MUST install this distribution set. It contains the 27 base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the 28 system to run and be minimally functional. It 29 includes shared library support, and excludes 30 everything described below. 31 [ 7.2M gzipped, 20.7M uncompressed ] 32 33 comp12 The NetBSD/mac68k Compiler tools. All of the tools 34 relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN. 35 This set includes the system include files 36 (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain, 37 and the various system libraries (except the shared 38 libraries, which are included as part of the base 39 set). This set also includes the manual pages for all 40 of the utilities it contains, as well as the system 41 call and library manual pages. 42 [ 5.1M gzipped, 16.7M uncompressed ] 43 44 etc12 This distribution set contains the system 45 configuration files that reside in /etc and in several 46 other places. This set MUST be installed if you are 47 installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be 48 used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading, 49 it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and 50 CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.) 51 [ 68K gzipped, 350K uncompressed ] 52 53 games12 This set includes the games and their manual pages. 54 [ 2.7M gzipped, 6.8M uncompressed ] 55 56 man12 This set includes all of the manual pages for the 57 binaries and other software contained in the base set. 58 Note that it does not include any of the manual pages 59 that are included in the other sets. 60 [ 0.9M gzipped, 3.4M uncompressed ] 61 62 misc12 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are 63 rather large), the typesettable document set, and 64 man pages for other architectures which happen to be 65 installed from the source tree by default. 66 [ 1.8M gzipped, 6.3M uncompressed ] 67 68 text12 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools, 69 including groff, all related programs, and their 70 manual pages. 71 [ 0.7M gzipped, 2.8M uncompressed ] 72 73The mac68k security distribution set is named "secr12" and can be found 74in the "mac68k/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution 75tree. It contains the crypt libraries (for the DES encryption algorithm) 76and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found on those sites 77which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that can legally obtain 78it. (Remember, because of United States law, this distribution set may 79not be exported to locations outside of the United States and Canada.) 80[ 432K gzipped, 1.5M uncompressed ] 81 82The mac68k binary distribution sets are distributed as full .tar.gz 83files (without that extension). The instructions given for extracting 84the source sets work equally well for the binary sets, but it is worth 85noting that if you use that method, the files are extracted "below" the 86current directory. That is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" 87your system, i.e. replace the system binaries with them, you have to run 88the "tar xfp" from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, 89those programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If 90you follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be 91taken care of for you. 92
