31<P>
32<pre>
33Name: <B>angle</B>
34Class: <B>Angle</B>
35Command-Line Switch:	<B>-angle</B>
36</pre>
37<UL>
38Specifes the angle of slope from the inner edge to the outer edge of the tab.
39An angle of 0 specifies square tabs. Valid ranges are 0 to 45 degrees
40inclusive. Default is 15 degrees. If <B>tabPos</B> is e or w, this option
41is ignored.
42</UL>
43<P>
44<pre>
45Name: <B>auto</B>
46Class: <B>Auto</B>
47Command-Line Switch:	<B>-auto</B>
48</pre>
49<UL>
50Specifies whether to use the automatic packing/unpacking algorithm of the
51notebook. A value of true indicates that page frames will be unpacked and
52packed acoording to the algorithm described in the select command. A value
53of <B>false</B> leaves the current page packed and
54subsequent <B>selects</B>, <B>next</B>, or <B>previous</B> commands do not
55switch pages automatically. In either case the page's associated
56command (see the <B>add</B> command's description of the command option) is
57invoked. The value may have any of the forms accepted by
58the <B>Tcl_GetBoolean</B>, such as <B>true</B>, <B>false</B>, <B>0</B>,
59<B>1</B>, <B>yes</B>, or <B>no</B>.
60</UL>
61<P>
62<pre>
63Name: <B>backdrop</B>
64Class: <B>Backdrop</B>
65Command-Line Switch:	<B>-backdrop</B>
66</pre>
67<UL>
68Specifies a background color to use when filling in the backdrop area
69behind the tabs.

74Class: <B>Background</B>
75Command-Line Switch:	<B>-background</B>
76</pre>
77<UL>
78Specifies a background color to use for displaying a page and its associated
79tab. This can be thought of as the selected tab background color, since the
80tab associated with the selected page is the selected tab.
81</UL>
82<P>
83<pre>
84Name: <B>bevelAmount</B>
85Class: <B>BevelAmount</B>
86Command-Line Switch:	<B>-bevelamount</B>
87</pre>
88<UL>
89Specifes the size of tab corners. A value of 0 with <B>angle</B> set to
900 results in square tabs. A <B>bevelAmount</B> of 4, means that the tab will
91be drawn with angled corners that cut in 4 pixels from the edge of
92the tab. The default is 0.
93</UL>
94<P>
95<pre>
96Name: <B>borderWidth</B>
97Class: <B>BorderWidth</B>
98Command-Line Switch:	<B>-borderwidth</B>
99</pre>
100<UL>
101Specifies the width of shadowed border to place around the notebook area of
102the tabnotebook. The default value is 2.
103</UL>
104<P>
105<pre>
106Name: <B>disabledForeground</B>
107Class: <B>DisabledForeground</B>
108Command-Line Switch:	<B>-disabledforeground</B>
109</pre>
110<UL>
111Specifies a foreground color to use for displaying a tab's label when
112its <B>state</B> is disabled.
113</UL>
114<P>
115<pre>
116Name: <B>equalTabs</B>

118Command-Line Switch:	<B>-equaltabs</B>
119</pre>
120<UL>
121Specifies whether to force tabs to be equal sized or not. A value
122of <B>true</B> means constrain tabs to be equal sized. A value
123of <B>false</B> allows each tab to size based on the text label size. The
124value may have any of the forms accepted by the <B>Tcl_GetBoolean</B>, such
125as <B>true</B>, <B>false</B>, <B>0</B>, <B>1</B>, <B>yes</B>, or <B>no</B>.
126</UL>
127<UL>
128For horizontally positioned tabs (<B>tabpos</B> is either <B>s</B> or <B>n</B>),
129<B>true</B> forces all tabs to be equal width (the width being equal to
130the longest label plus any <B>padX</B> specified). Horizontal tabs are
131always equal in height.
132</UL>
133<UL>
134For vertically positioned tabs (<B>tabpos</B> is either <B>w</B> or <B>e</B>),
135<B>true</B> forces all tabs to be equal height (the height being equal to the
136height of the label with the largest font). Vertically oriented tabs
137are always equal in width.
138</UL>
139<P>
140<pre>
141Name: <B>foreground</B>
142Class: <B>Foreground</B>
143Command-Line Switch:	<B>-foreground</B>
144</pre>
145<UL>
146Specifies a foreground color to use for displaying a page and its associated
147tab label. This can be thought of as the selected tab background color,
148since the tab associated with the selected page is the selected tab.
149</UL>
150<P>
151<pre>
152Name: <B>gap</B>

154Command-Line Switch:	<B>-gap</B>
155</pre>
156<UL>
157Specifies the amount of pixel space to place between each tab. Value may
158be any pixel offset value. In addition, a special keyword <B>overlap</B>
159can be used as the value to achieve a standard overlap of tabs. This value
160may have any of the forms acceptable to <B>Tk_GetPixels</B>.
161</UL>
162<P>
163<pre>
164Name: <B>margin</B>
165Class: <B>Margin</B>
166Command-Line Switch:	<B>-Bmargin</B>
167</pre>
168<UL>
169Specifies the amount of space to place between the outside edge of the
170tabnotebook and the outside edge of its tabs. If <B>tabPos</B> is <B>s</B>,
171this is the amount of space between the bottom edge of the tabnotebook and
172the bottom edge of the set of tabs. If <B>tabPos</B> is <B>n</B>, this is
173the amount of space between the top edge of the tabnotebook and the top
174edge of the set of tabs. If <B>tabPos</B> is <B>e</B>, this is the amount of
175space between the right edge of the tabnotebook and the right edge of the
176set of tabs. If <B>tabPos</B> is <B>w</B>, this is the amount of space
177between the left edge of the tabnotebook and the left edge of the set
178of tabs. This value may have any of the forms acceptable to <B>Tk_GetPixels</B>.
179</UL>
180<P>
181<pre>
182Name: <B>padX</B>

184Command-Line Switch:	<B>-padx</B>
185</pre>
186<UL>
187Specifies a non-negative value indicating how much extra space to request
188for a tab around its label in the X-direction. When computing how large
189a window it needs, the tab will add this amount to the width it would
190normally need The tab will end up with extra internal space to the left
191and right of its text label. This value may have any of the forms acceptable
192to <B>Tk_GetPixels</B>.
193</UL>
194<P>
195<pre>
196Name: <B>padY</B>
197Class: <B>PadY</B>
198Command-Line Switch:	<B>-pady</B>
199</pre>
200<UL>
201Specifies a non-negative value indicating how much extra space to request for
202a tab around its label in the Y-direction. When computing how large a
203window it needs, the tab will add this amount to the height it would normally
204need The tab will end up with extra internal space to the top and bottom of
205its text label. This value may have any of the forms acceptable
206to <B>Tk_GetPixels</B>.
207</UL>
208<P>
209<pre>
210Name: <B>raiseSelect</B>
211Class: <B>RaiseSelect</B>
212Command-Line Switch:	<B>-raiseselect</B>
213</pre>
214<UL>
215Specifes whether to slightly raise the selected tab from the rest of the
216tabs. The selected tab is drawn 2 pixels closer to the outside of the
217tabnotebook than the unselected tabs. A value of <B>true</B> says to
218raise selected tabs, a value of <B>false</B> turns this feature off. The
219default is <B>false</B>. The value may have any of the forms accepted
220by the <B>Tcl_GetBoolean</B>, such as <B>true</B>, <B>false</B>, <B>0</B>,
221<B>1</B>, <B>yes</B>, or <B>no</B>.
222</UL>
223<P>
224<pre>
225Name: <B>start</B>
226Class: <B>Start</B>
227Command-Line Switch:	<B>-start</B>
228</pre>
229<UL>
230Specifies the amount of space to place between the left or top edge of the
231tabnotebook and the starting edge of its tabs. For horizontally positioned
232tabs, this is the amount of space between the left edge of the notebook and
233the left edge of the first tab. For vertically positioned tabs, this is the
234amount of space between the top of the notebook and the top of the first
235tab. This value may change if the user performs a MButton-2 scroll on the
236tabs. This value may have any of the forms acceptable to <B>Tk_GetPixels</B>.
237</UL>
238<P>
239<pre>
240Name: <B>state</B>

242Command-Line Switch:	<B>-state</B>
243</pre>
244<UL>
245Sets the active state of the tabnotebook. Specifying <B>normal</B> allows
246all pages to be selectable. Specifying <B>disabled</B> disables the notebook
247causing all page tabs to be drawn in the <B>disabledForeground</B> color.
248</UL>
249<P>
250<pre>
251Name: <B>tabBackground</B>

253Command-Line Switch:	<B>-tabbackground</B>
254</pre>
255<UL>
256Specifies a background color to use for displaying tab backgrounds when
257they are in their unselected state. This is the background associated with
258tabs on all pages other than the selected page.
259</UL>
260<P>
261<pre>
262Name: <B>tabBorders</B>
263Class: <B>TabBorders</B>
264Command-Line Switch:	<B>-tabborders</B>
265</pre>
266<UL>
267Specifies whether to draw the borders of tabs that are not selected.
268Specifying <B>true</B> (the default) draws these borders,
269specifying <B>false</B> draws only the border around the selected tab. The
270value may have any of the forms accepted by the <B>Tcl_GetBoolean</B>,
271such as <B>true</B>, <B>false</B>, <B>0</B>, <B>1</B>,<B> yes</B>, or <B>no</B>.

292area. Must be n, s, e, or w. Defaults to s.
293</UL>
294</pre><HR>
295</pre><H2>DESCRIPTION</H2>
296<P>
297The <B>tabnotebook</B> command creates a new window (given by the pathName
298argument) and makes it into a <B>tabnotebook</B> widget. Additional options,
299described above may be specified on the command line or in the option
300database to configure aspects of the tabnotebook such as its colors, font,
301and text. The tabnotebook command returns its pathName argument. At the
302time this command is invoked, there must not exist a window named
303pathName, but pathName's parent must exist.
304<P>
305A <B>tabnotebook</B> is a widget that contains a set of tabbed pages. It
306displays one page from the set as the selected page. A Tab displays the
307label for the page to which it is attached and serves as a page
308selector. When a page's tab is selected, the page's contents are displayed
309in the page area. The selected tab has a three-dimensional effect to make
310it appear to float above the other tabs. The tabs are displayed as a group
311along either the left, top, right, or bottom edge. When first created a
312tabnotebook has no pages. Pages may be added or deleted using widget
313commands described below.
314<P>
315A special option may be provided to the tabnotebook. The <B>-auto</B>
316option specifies whether the tabnotebook will automatically handle the
317unpacking and packing of pages when pages are selected. A value of
318true signifies that the notebook will automatically manage it. This is the
319default value. A value of false signifies the notebook will not perform
320automatic switching of pages.
321</pre><H2>NOTEBOOK PAGES</H2>
322A tabnotebook's pages area contains a single child site frame. When a
323new page is created it is a child of this frame. The page's child site
324frame serves as a geometry container for applications to pack widgets
325into. It is this frame that is automatically unpacked or packed when
326the auto option is true. This creates the effect of one page being visible
327at a time. When a new page is selected, the previously selected page's
328child site frame is automatically unpacked from the tabnotebook's child
329site frame and the newly selected page's child site is packed into the
330tabnotebook's child site frame.
331<P>
332However, sometimes it is desirable to handle page changes in a different
333manner. By specifying the <B>auto</B> option as <B>false</B>, child site
334packing can be disabled and done differently. For example, all widgets
335might be packed into the first page's child site <B>frame</B>. Then when
336a new page is selected, the application can reconfigure the widgets
337and give the appearance that the page was flipped.
338<P>
339In both cases the command option for a page specifies a Tcl Command
340to execute when the page is selected. In the case of <B>auto</B>
341being <B>true</B>, it is between the unpacking of the previously selected
342page and the packing of the newly selected page.
343<P>
344Notebook pages can also be controlled with scroll bars or other widgets
345that obey the <B>scrollcommand</B> protocol. By giving a scrollbar
346a <B>-command</B> to call the tabnotebook's <B>select</B> method, the
347tabnotebook can be controlled with a scrollbar.
348<P>
349The notebook area is implemented with the notebook mega widget.
350</pre><H2>TABS</H2>
351Tabs appear along the edge of the notebook area. Tabs are drawn to appear
352attached to their associated page. When a tab is clicked on, the associated
353page is selected and the tab is drawn as raised above all other tabs and as
354a seamless part of its notebook page. Tabs can be controlled in their
355location along the edges, the angle tab sides are drawn with, gap between
356tabs, starting margin of tabs, internal padding around text labels in
357a tab, the font, and its label.
358<P>
359The Tab area is implemented with the <B>tabset</B> mega widget.
360See <B>tabset(1)</B>. Tabs may be oriented along either the north, south,
361east, or west sides with the <B>tabPos</B> option. North and south tabs
362may appear as angled, square, or bevelled. West and east tabs may appear
363as square or bevelled. By changing tab gaps, tab angles, bevelling,
364orientations, colors, fonts, start locations, and margins; tabs may appear
365in a wide variety of styles. For example, it is possible to implement
366Microsoft-style tabs, Borland property tab styles, or Borland Delphi
367style tabs all with the same tabnotebook.
368</pre><H2>WIDGET-SPECIFIC METHODS</H2>
369<P>
370The <B>tabnotebook</B> command creates a new Tcl command whose name
371is <I>pathName</I>. This command may be used to invoke various operations
372on the widget. It has the following general form:
373<pre>
374<I>pathName option </I>?<I>arg arg ...</I>?
375</pre>
376<I>option</I> and the <I>arg</I>s
377determine the exact behavior of the command.
378<P>
379Many of the widget commands for a notebook take as one argument an
380indicator of which page of the notebook to operate on. These indicators are
381called indexes and may be specified in any of the following forms:
382<DL>
383<DT> <I>number</I>
384</I></B>
385<DD> Specifies the page numerically, where 0 corresponds to the first page
386in the notebook, 1 to the second, and so on.
387</DL>
388<DL>
389<DT> <B>select</B>
390</I></B>
391<DD> Specifies the currently selected page's index. If no page is currently
392selected, the value -1 is returned.
393</DL>
394<DL>
395<DT> <B>end</B>
396</I></B>
397<DD> Specifes the last page in the tabnotebook's index. If the notebook is empty
398this will return -1.
399</DL>
400<DL>
401<DT> <I>pattern</I>
402</I></B>
403<DD> If the index doesn't satisfy any of the above forms, then this form is
404used. Pattern is pattern-matched against the label of each page in the
405notebook, in order from the first to the last page, until a matching entry
406is found. The rules of Tcl_StringMatch are used.
407'.............................................................................
408The following commands are possible for tabnotebook widgets:
409</DL>
410<DL>
411<DT> <I>pathName</I> <B>add</B> ?<I>option</I> <I>value</I> <I>option</I> <I>value</I> ...?
412</I></B>
413<DD> Add a new page at the end of the tabnotebook. A new child site frame is
414created. Returns the child site pathName. If additional arguments are
415present, they specify any of the following options:
416</DL>
417<UL>
418<DL>
419<DT> <B>-angle</B> <I>value</I>
420</I></B>
421<DD> Specifes the angle of slope from the inner edge to the outer edge of the
422tab. An angle of 0 specifies square tabs. Valid ranges are 0 to 45 degrees
423inclusive. Default is 15 degrees. If this option is specified as an empty
424string (the default), then the angle option for the overall tabnotebook
425is used. This is generally only set at the tabnotebook level. Tabs normally
426will want to share the same angle value.
427</DL>
428<DL>
429<DT> <B>-background</B> <I>value</I>
430</I></B>
431<DD> Specifies a background color to use for displaying tabs when they are
432selected and for displaying the current page. If this option is specified
433as an empty string (the default), then the background option for the
434overall tabnotebook is used.
435</DL>
436<DL>
437<DT> <B>-bevelamount</B> <I>value</I>
438</I></B>
439<DD> Specifes the size of tab corners. A value of 0 with angle set to 0
440results in square tabs. A bevelAmount of 4, means that the tab will be
441drawn with angled corners that cut in 4 pixels from the edge of the tab.
442The default is 0. This is generally only set at the tabnotebook level.
443Tabs normally will want to share the same bevelAmount.

455allows the programmer a hook to reconfigure this page's widgets or any
456other page's widgets.
457<UL>
458If the tabnotebook has the auto option set to true, when a page is
459selected this command will be called immediately after the previously
460selected page is unpacked and immediately before this page is selected. The
461index value select is valid during this Tcl command. `index select' will
462return this page's page number.
463</UL>
464<UL>
465If the auto option is set to false, when a page is selected the unpack
466and pack calls are bypassed. This Tcl command is still called.

492<DT> <B>-label</B> <I>value</I>
493</I></B>
494<DD> Specifies a string to display as an identifying label for a notebook
495page. This label serves as an additional identifier used to reference the
496page. This label may be used for the index value in widget commands.
497</DL>
498<DL>
499<DT> <B>-tabbackground</B> <I>value</I>
500</I></B>
501<DD> Specifies a background color to use for displaying a tab when it is not

515</I></B>
516<DD> Specifies a non-negative value indicating how much extra space to request
517for a tab around its label in the X-direction. When computing how large a
518window it needs, the tab will add this amount to the width it would
519normally need The tab will end up with extra internal space to the
520left and right of its text label. This value may have any of the forms
521acceptable to Tk_GetPixels. If this option is specified as an empty
522string (the default), then the padX option for the overall tabnotebook is used

539unselected tabs are displayed using the tabforeground and tabbackground
540option from the tabnotebook or the page. Selected tabs and pages are
541displayed using the foreground and background option from the tabnotebook or
542the page. The disabled state means that the page and its tab is
543insensitive: it doesn't respond to mouse button presses or releases. In this
544state the entry is displayed according to its disabledForeground option for
545the tabnotebook and the background/tabbackground option from the page or
546the tabnotebook.

554in the tabnotebook. If the tab notebook is empty, an empty list is returned
555<UL>
556If <I>index</I> is passed, it returns the <I>pathName</I> for the page's
557child site <B>frame</B> specified by <I>index</I>. Widgets that are created
558with this <I>pathName</I> will be displayed when the associated page is

560</UL>
561</DL>
562<DL>
563<DT> <I>pathName</I> <B>configure</B> ?<I>option</I>? ?<I>value</I> <I>option</I> <I>value</I> ...?
564</I></B>
565<DD> Query or modify the configuration options of the widget. If no <I>option</I>
566is specified, returns a list describing all of the available options
567for <I>pathName</I> (see <B>Tk_ConfigureInfo</B> for information on the
568format of this list). If option is specified with no value, then the
569command returns a list describing the one named option (this list will be
570identical to the corresponding sublist of the value returned if no option
571is specified). If one or more option-value pairs are specified, then the
572command modifies the given widget option(s) to have the given value(s); in
573this case the command returns an empty string. <I>Option</I> may have any
574of the values accepted by the tabnotebook command.
575</DL>

590</I></B>
591<DD> Insert a new page in the tabnotebook before the page specified
592by <I>index</I>. A new child site <B>frame</B> is created. The additional
593arguments are the same as for the <B>add</B> command. Returns the
594child site <I>pathName</I>.

596<DL>
597<DT> <I>pathName</I> <B>next</B>
598</I></B>
599<DD> Advances the selected page to the next page (order is determined by
600insertion order). If the currently selected page is the last page in
601the notebook, the selection wraps around to the first page in the
602notebook. It behaves as if the user selected the new page.
603<UL>
604For notebooks with <B>auto</B> set to <B>true</B> the current page's
605child site is unpacked from the notebook's child site frame. Then the next

617</I></B>
618<DD> This command is similar to the <B>configure</B> command, except that it
619applies to the options for an individual page, whereas configure applies
620to the options for the tabnotebook as a whole. <I>Options</I> may have
621any of the values accepted by the add widget command. If options are
622specified, options are modified as indicated in the command and the
623command returns an empty string. If no options are specified, returns a
624list describing the current options for page index (see <B>Tk_ConfigureInfo</B>
625for information on the format of this list).
626</DL>
627<DL>
628<DT> <I>pathName</I> <B>prev</B>
629</I></B>
630<DD> Moves the selected page to the previous page (order is determined by
631insertion order). If the currently selected page is the first page in
632the notebook, the selection wraps around to the last page in the notebook. It
633behaves as if the user selected the new page.
634<UL>
635For notebooks with <B>auto</B> set to <B>true</B> the current page's
