1DISTRIBUTION INFORMATION
2------------------------
3
4An ``X-'' prefixed before a distribution set means that the XFree86
53.2 base distribution, libraries, manual pages, SVGA server and a
6set of default fonts will be selected in addition to the set itself.
7If you select such a set, you will also be presented with a set of
8menus for customizing the selections to your desired X Window System
9setup.
10
11Any distribution may be further customized by selecting the `Custom'
12item before leaving the menu.
13
14N.B. All references in this document to `complete source' mean the
15complete source tree minus any legally encumbered cryptography code.
16
17The current "canned" installations are provided:
18
19Developer: Base ("bin") distribution, man pages, dictionary
20 files, profiling libraries and the complete source tree.
21
22Kern-Developer: As above, but with only kernel sources instead of
23 the complete source tree.
24
25User: The base distribution, man pages, dictionary files and
26 the FreeBSD 1.x, 2.0 and 2.1.x compatibility sets.
27
28Minimal: Only the base distribution.
29
30Everything: The base distribution, man pages, dictionary files,
31 profiling libraries, the FreeBSD 1.x and the FreeBSD 2.0
32 compatibility libraries, the complete source tree,
33 games and your choice of XFree86 distribution components.
34 Note that the cryptography source code is NOT included
35 in this collection. You will need to select that by
36 hand if you're inside the United States.
37
38Custom: Allows you to create or modify your distribution set on
39 a piece-by-piece basis.
40
41Reset: Clear all currently selected distributions.

45ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE:
46--------------------
47You may notice that certain distributions, like "des" and "krb",
48are marked "NOT FOR EXPORT!" This is because it's illegal to export
49them from the United States (or any other country which considers
50encryption technology to be on its restricted export list). Since
51breaking this law only gets the _originating_ site (US!) in trouble,
52please do not load these distributions from U.S. servers! We don't
53like these restrictions any more than you do, but can't do much about
54it (write your U.S. congress person!).
55
56A number of "foreign" servers do exist for the benefit of
57non-U.S. sites, the official site being:
58
59 ftp://ftp.internat.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD
60
61Please get all such export restricted software from there
62if you are outside the U.S., thanks!
