39
     #include <stdio.h>
40     int putchar(int <var>ch</var>);
41
42     int _putchar_r(struct _reent *<var>reent</var>, int <var>ch</var>);
43
44

45
Description
46
putchar
is a macro, defined in
stdio.h
.
putchar

47writes its argument to the standard output stream,
48after converting it from an
int
to an
unsigned char
.
49
50
The alternate function
_putchar_r
is a reentrant version. The
51extra argument <var>reent</var> is a pointer to a reentrancy structure.
52
53

54Returns
55If successful,
putchar
returns its argument <var>ch</var>. If an error
56intervenes, the result is
EOF
. You can use `
ferror(stdin)
' to
57query for errors.
58
59

60Portability
61ANSI C requires
putchar
; it suggests, but does not require, that
62
putchar
be implemented as a macro.
63
64
Supporting OS subroutines required:
close
,
fstat
,
isatty
,
65
lseek
,
read
,
sbrk
,
write
.
