| H A D | Kconfig | diff 7b453719 Fri May 13 05:39:22 MDT 2022 Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org> kbuild: link symbol CRCs at final link, removing CONFIG_MODULE_REL_CRCS include/{linux,asm-generic}/export.h defines a weak symbol, __crc_* as a placeholder. Genksyms writes the version CRCs into the linker script, which will be used for filling the __crc_* symbols. The linker script format depends on CONFIG_MODULE_REL_CRCS. If it is enabled, __crc_* holds the offset to the reference of CRC. It is time to get rid of this complexity. Now that modpost parses text files (.*.cmd) to collect all the CRCs, it can generate C code that will be linked to the vmlinux or modules. Generate a new C file, .vmlinux.export.c, which contains the CRCs of symbols exported by vmlinux. It is compiled and linked to vmlinux in scripts/link-vmlinux.sh. Put the CRCs of symbols exported by modules into the existing *.mod.c files. No additional build step is needed for modules. As before, *.mod.c are compiled and linked to *.ko in scripts/Makefile.modfinal. No linker magic is used here. The new C implementation works in the same way, whether CONFIG_RELOCATABLE is enabled or not. CONFIG_MODULE_REL_CRCS is no longer needed. Previously, Kbuild invoked additional $(LD) to update the CRCs in objects, but this step is unneeded too. BOOT_HEAP_SIZE is defined to 0x30000 in this case. Actual decompressor memory usage with allyesconfig is currently 0x26150. As the next patch requires access to it from mdev.ko merge the two modules together and remove VFIO_MDEV_DEVICE. A later patch deletes this driver entirely. There are a few special things on s390: - PIF_PER_TRAP is moved to TIF_PER_TRAP as the generic code doesn't know about our PIF flags in exit_to_user_mode_loop(). - The old code had several ways to restart syscalls: a) PIF_SYSCALL_RESTART, which was only set during execve to force a restart after upgrading a process (usually qemu-kvm) to pgste page table extensions. b) PIF_SYSCALL, which is set by do_signal() to indicate that the current syscall should be restarted. This is changed so that do_signal() now also uses PIF_SYSCALL_RESTART. Continuing to use PIF_SYSCALL doesn't work with the generic code, and changing it to PIF_SYSCALL_RESTART makes PIF_SYSCALL and PIF_SYSCALL_RESTART more unique. - On s390 calling sys_sigreturn or sys_rt_sigreturn is implemented by executing a svc instruction on the process stack which causes a fault. While handling that fault the fault code sets PIF_SYSCALL to hand over processing to the syscall code on exit to usermode. The patch introduces PIF_SYSCALL_RET_SET, which is set if ptrace sets a return value for a syscall. The s390x ptrace ABI uses r2 both for the syscall number and return value, so ptrace cannot set the syscall number + return value at the same time. The flag makes handling that a bit easier. do_syscall() will just skip executing the syscall if PIF_SYSCALL_RET_SET is set. CONFIG_DEBUG_ASCE was removd in favour of the generic CONFIG_DEBUG_ENTRY. CR1/7/13 will be checked both on kernel entry and exit to contain the correct asces. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. Replace the ARCH_HAS_SG_CHAIN symbol with a ARCH_NO_SG_CHAIN one only enabled for architectures with horrible legacy iommu drivers like alpha and parisc, and conditionally for arm which wants to keep it disable for legacy platforms. Additionally, commit 3b2fbb3f06ef ("virtio/s390: deprecate old transport") introduced a deprecation message in the driver, and apparently nobody complained so far that it is still required. So let's simply remove it.
